Capcom has announced another collection of classic NES titles to follow in the footsteps of Mega Man Legacy Collection, but in a rather strange twist it will be skipping Nintendo systems.
Disney Afternoon Collection pulls together some of the company's most beloved NES titles, including Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers, Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers 2, Darkwing Duck, DuckTales, DuckTales 2 and TaleSpin.
All six titles will feature 1080p HD visuals as well as filtering options which will allow you to recreate that classic CRT look. Just like Mega Man Legacy Collection there will be extra modes such as Boss Rush and Time Attack, and the in-game museum contains a wide range of artwork and music to digest.

Disney Afternoon Collection will be hitting the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC as a digital download on April 18th for the very reasonable price of £15.99/ €19.99/ $19.99. The absence of a Switch or 3DS release is somewhat puzzling, given that many of the people who fondly recall these titles will be lifelong Nintendo fans.
Perhaps Mega Man Legacy Collection underperformed on 3DS and Capcom has decided to focus on Sony and Microsoft's consoles instead? Maybe a Switch version will be released at a later date? Digital Eclipse - the studio behind both this and the Mega Man collection - haven't ruled that out:

That is absolutely RIDICULOUS!!!
Yeah, this is puzzling to me. The Switch is very much capable of supporting such a title and, like you guys mentioned, most of the people who fondly remember these games are Nintendo gamers.
Here's hoping we'll get a version later on. Fingers crossed.
Not a good sign that 3DS and Switch versions not confirmed.
This games development costs wouldn't be that high. Pretty worrying Capcom are skipping Nintendo platforms
Surely this will be confirmed on Switch in next week or two? seems mental if this isn't on there.
Surprised about the switch not so about 3ds as like you said mega man underperformed but give switch a chance
I have a lot of nostalgia for these shows but given that my family only started gaming with the N64, I've never played these games. Nor do I have any intention to do so. No Switch or 3DS version? Of a bunch of NES games, seriously?
I'm personally not bothered by this but it seems very silly to omit Nintendo's consoles. Not only do these games have history with them but Nintendo are often referred to as being a platform safe for kids.
I just can't imagine what was going on behind closed doors when they decided that Switch/3DS would not be a target platform. The mind boggles.
I was so excited about hearing this. I'm definitely picking this up on the other consoles. It is odd that it's not coming to a Nintendo system. Yet I'm not surprised. Maybe it will come later, but I'm not waiting for it.
I hope we get it for 3DS at least but at least we'd get it for steam.
Great price too. Definitely picking this up.
Edit. If it did come out on the switch it would've been 10 pounds more which would've put many off
@UK-Nintendo : It would not cost 10 pounds more on Switch as it's a digital-only title. They do not have manufacturing costs to consider. Besides, a 1GB cartridge (assuming that's the smallest capacity that Nintendo is offering developers/publishers) should cost about the same as a 25GB Blu-ray disc.
That's 2.7 dollars per game. You get a better value with the actual NES Classic, and that gets you hardware.
That is really stupid. A release of NES games on other systems but not Nintendo?! Is there some bad blood between Disney and Nintendo? I'm sure that even if it did come out on a Nintendo system it would be the switch only. Seems everyone just abandoned the 3ds and that's the last and only system by Nintendo I'll ever be playing. The switch should be called THE GLITCH. That system is a wreck and I wouldn't even pay $50 for one.
At first I thought about manufacturing costs being he reason but then discovered it was digital only and so my mind became more boggled. If anything I thought a Nintendo platform would see strong sales and the portable nature of both the 3DS and Switch would help.
My only possible reason is that Capcom (rather stubbornly) wanted to release them on consoles with large, established bases whilst the Switch has only just been released.
Of course this can hurt the potential of a future Switch release as dual console owners may buy it on PS4/X1 and not want to double dip (but would have bought on a Switch if it launched there too) and it will have missed the post-launch rush where many non-AAA games can gain visibility and sales.
This is a Steam buy for me.
It's like dejavu. Same thing happened on psvita,they released 4 games on it then capcom dissappeared. Mind you the games they made were OK Resident Evil revelations 2.. Streetfighterxtekken.. Capcom vs Marvel then a platformers called Dustforce,Anyways I hope this doesn't mean the same for switch. Edit maybe these games will come to VC and that's why capcom are not releasing this bundle,I doubt it though
Why I'm not surprised?
Crapcom Boohoo !
But yeah, this is no surprise. Its the same company that cancelled a high profile 3DS game, because they predicted "the system would never sell".
They are not known to host any resemblance of basic cognitive abilities anymore.
@NintySnesMan They also released the incomplete MegaMan collection, although the system already offered the whole line of games.
While I'm still excited, I so wanted this on the Switch.
This is just stupid! This game was made for the Switch!!! Makes absolute no sense.
@NintySnesMan remember that the Vita only got RE revelations 2 because Sony paid for all development costs.
Capcom twitter account already recieved about 25k inqueries about Switch version =)
The ****!? These NES/Nintendo classics NOT releasing on Nintendo's newest and most versatile hardware? What a mockery.
I have no doubt this will be announced for Switch in the coming weeks.Nintendo have been controlling when games are revealed these past couple of months.Outside the presentation and Nindie direct,very little has been announced as coming.They even saved Yooka Laylee's official announcement until that Nindie show.I imagine there will be a Direct soon and this collection will be announced then.
this would do well on the switch eshop but I think they will release it tho at a later date
@kobashi100
True mate,I think it was also the same for borderlands 2. Still glad Sony paid for them though otherwise it would never of happened,capcom had already jumped ship
@Einherjar
Hey dude,what system was that in if it was vita I can't find them on ps store. I take it you mean VC
I love Disney slightly more than Nintendo. I would have loved this collection. Needless to say I'm not happy with this skipping Nintnedo systems for whatever reason, and makes me consider if I one day need one of the other consoles.
Don't worry everybody, capcom will release the Disney collection, but you'll have to wait until Nintendo's next console. Just like we had to wait for Street Fighter 2 HD.
@NintySnesMan It was a direct reference to this:
"maybe these games will come to VC and that's why capcom are not releasing this bundle"
So yeah, im talking about the VC.
Ironically, PSN wouldn't be wrong either, since the "Perfect Works" versions are available, at least in japan iirc.
Bottom line: Just don't try to come up with logical conclusions to Capcoms decision making. That's an instant headache
This is a huge miss. Extremely stupid.
@OorWullie I hope you're right. Does make sense.
Switch seems like enough of a no-brainer that I'm willing to wait (and anyway, Capcom is predictably not bothering with Vita either). Lack of simultaneous release is puzzling, but maybe they're still undecided whether to go for such collections or Virtual Console here?
CAPCOM: Remember the days when videogame doesn't sucks, well we are going to re-release them again so that they do sucks.
Those framerates better be smooth Capcom, that colorful trailer proves nothing until I see the true gameplay.
@Einherjar
Lol owning Ninty products are always a headache Bro,just like this situation where devs don't want to bring games to their machines which is very sad really. Ouch my head hurts lol
Love the games, and would buy it day one if it came out on the Switch, or the 3DS (or even the Vita). I will altogether skip it if it only comes out for home consoles (8-bit era games look soooo good on portables...).
They better not do digital only then later release a physical copy. It happened with Ducktales Remastered and NES Remix games making me want to double dip.
Of course the "Mega Man Legacy Collection" didn't sell well. Most people who wanted the games had already previously bought them, either through one of the Virtual Console services or through "Mega Man Anniversary Collection." That's no excuse.
Probably the timing was bad for getting in on the Switch coupled with a small development budget/team. Still has the feel of absurdity.
I will be getting it for my PS4.
Would prefer it on Switch, but will be picking it up on PS4. Is there a way to use NES controllers on the PS4?
Capcom, you traitor for this Disney compilation !
No ports on Switch for six months, it's a rule. Only Nintendo can port. And Tomorrow Corporation. Well, I Am Setsuna is a port, but that's it. Shin'en and Yacht Club kind of have ports, but after that; absolutely no ports for six months. Okay, Binding of Isaac is a port... and so are the Neo Geo games, but no other ports are allowed. For six months. No porting. Six months. Not even a collection of classic NES games. The Switch isn't about ports.
ABSURD considering the NES was the console these games were released on.
@NintySnesMan
My head is Ouch too. Not because of Nintendo Switch, but PS4. Like I said before, I dare myself to find appropriate games for PS4, I found so far just only.... SIX GAMES ! I already have 1 PS4 games, played it by rental. Imagine how worthless to having ps4 if I can't find at least 12 worthy games. Well... maybe a lot if people will say ps4 is the best, blah blah whatever but for me it's very serious decision to buy ps4 machine or play my ps4 games by rental. That decision still hurting my head because lately I 'm confident 100% to ReBuy PS2 again next year but Original ps2 slim, no more midded or pirated anymore. PS2 still give me a lot of Nostalgia, better titles than ps4 (I found more than 30 titles for ps2, both Japan and USA version). I guess I will become Retro Gamer a lot.
If PS5 have backward compatibility with PS4 by physically + better library at least like ps2, maybe I can joined my ps4 collection with ps5 games. I said IF....
would of loved these on the 3ds
So this is just an insult to Nintendo fans and the 2nd time Capcom is skipping Nintendo with a collection of retro games (the first being mega man legacy) that BELONGS on a Nintendo system!! As a retro fan, I'd rather have this collection over street fighter II on the Switch any day!! Booo Capcom!! Get a Switch version going!
What a major rip-off. Is Capcom unaware these are NES games?
Capcom's Twitter and YouTube comments have been bombarded with people asking for a Nintendo version. Literally, like nearly every comment. I'm hoping a version comes soon due to the obvious very high interest in it.
Disney sending a message to new competitor Nintendo: Stay out of our theme park game.
Switch owners just keep getting kicked in the face :/
Not a good sign at all, and very surprising to me. Capcom is no Indie developer and these games originally call the NES home. I also think this a game that Nintendo fans would buy.
I can just imagine the person putting this together thinking, "No, I don't think Nintendo fans would like a chance to play these old Nintendo games."
Golf clap Good ol' Capcom.
If it don't come to Nintendo I'll pass and go play my NES copies.
I got a PS4, so I can still play this, but this is a classic Crapcom move toward Nintendo. The least they could've done is put the games on Wii U and 3DS Virtual Console. Lord knows Nintendo isn't doing anything with those services.
Talking about putting the middle finger up at Nintendo fans.
Nintendo needs to go after publishers like this. Ms and Sony do...
What the actual faku, Crapcom?
@kobashi100 Capcom isn't skipping switch as new version of streetfighter coming soon.
If they skip it for this game then you could say they're being dumb. This is a company that made SF5 ps4/pc only skipping the console that most SF4 tourneys were played on.
At times I think even their ceo is probably scratching his head at their decisions. Like arg how this one get past me!
I agree there's no good reason it should skip the Switch, but really disagree with the idea that there are still more NES fans playing on Nintendo consoles than the other machines these days. The NES and SNES were mainstream hits, played by far more than the 'Nintendo fan' demographic. I'd bet there are more PS4 owners that used to have a NES than Wii U and Switch owners than used to have a NES.
This should be out day one for Switch
Why not remaster them like DuckTales?!
I assume they could still be coming on the yet unannounced VC. If Switch carts supposedly make every game $10 more, it would make no sense to sell them at retail.
So VC is the most likely route. And since nothing's been announced, Capcom can't say anything either. With online supposedly added to old school games, Nintendo offering Chip n Dale or say Contra with online multiplayer coop would be nice.
If not, that is beyond ridiculous.
@joey302 The 3DS got the Mega Man Legacy Collection, so that did not skip Nintendo systems. As for why the Wii U did not get the collection, its likely because the Wii U was pretty much a dead system back when the collection came out.
@Switch81tch You are wrong, alot of Xbox and Playstation gamers who are over the age of 30 likely played on the NES back in the day.
Plus, the notion that those systems are casual is a silly argument that quite frankly makes no sense. Is Marvel vs Capcom casual? Tekken? Dragon Quest XI? I could list numerous games all day that are coming to both platforms that are not aimed at the casual market.
Yeah, you could make the argument that the top selling games on those platforms are casual mass-market games like Call of Duty and Grand Theft Auto, but the same holds true for Nintendo's plaforms as well.
Unless someone is going to honestly argue that Mario Kart is not aimed at casuals.
That's okay, I never cared for the Disney games outside of Little Mermaid and Duck Tales 2, but for those who did it's a real slap in the face.
It's also really baffling considering that most Disney games were on Nintendo systems. Did Nintendo whizz in Disney's cornflakes or something?
@SparkOfSpirit
May have been Disney's decision too? Just saying. Or it could have been both?
Dang...who was the genius who decided that a collection of classic NES sidescroller games should be released on all major platforms except the Nintendo ones? The same Capcom who have said on the record how they like developing for Nintendo since the Switch? This is insane.
@Anti-Matter just six games? I currently have 48 on my console alone, with another 50 odd in my library.
It's a bit silly this isn't coming to Switch considering what console they were on in the first place, having said that I would have bought for PS4 anyway due the the lack of a dpad on the joycon
The games are what I think are important. The NES is a dead platform, but the games are great and deserve to live on and be accessible to as many as possible. I'm not going to knock those who think it's wrong to play these on non-Nintendo systems. I disagree, and that's that. With accessibility in mind, I wonder why the Switch isn't included, though there could be a number of reasons. I don't know if it's coincidence or not, but the announced platforms are all x86 CPU based. Is it possible Capcom is using specific code making their emulator less portable? I hope that they eventually bring these to Switch in some form for those who have the system.
I'm glad to see them add emulation features like rewind. Choice is good. It can be quite frustrating in some old games when certain design issues such as visibility, collision detection and dropped inputs ruin a good run. For example, I was playing Ducktales about six weeks ago, and I firmly hit the jump button in one spot and nothing happened leading to a pit death.
I guess not all developers share our sentimental attachment to the original system. Brutal.
It's entirely possible that this package will be released at a later date; and pretty much ties in with why Nintendo haven't released some franchised software on their platforms.
Nintendo have yet to announce pretty much anything regarding Virtual Console, other than it not being available at launch.
I can see Nintendo rebranding VC as '[console] Classics', given that the NES Classic Mini featured this on the top of the packaging (the plural suggesting it's part of a group of consoles), and that it's much clearer as to what the service offers than 'Virtual Console'.
If 'Classics' does indeed come to fruition, Nintendo may simply use this as a category for third-party support, rather than licensing the rights to sell these games through their own emulation and services. This is the reason why the likes of Ducktales haven't made it onto VC previously - it takes an considerable effort from Nintendo, Disney, Capcom and other parties to come to agreements.
But if this 'Disney Afternoons' software was made available on the eShop just like any other, and placed under the Classics category, you get around retro merchandising without the legal headaches, as the software has already been made possible through both Capcom and Disney. Everyone wins without the legal headaches.
Is Capcom really that surprised by Mega Man Legacy under performing? You could download pretty much all of those games in the eShop long before it... unlike these Disney NES games.
There's an audience out there for these, since y'know, it's Nintendo games. The fact that Nintendo's consoles isn't top priority is just stupid on their part. Throw out your charts and focus groups and THINK for a minute, Capcom.
I really don't think switch has the full third party support Nintendo was bragging about I personally think there holding back to see if switch sells and if it does doller signs will appear In there eyes and they will port it
Well I for one will be emailing Capcom.
Well, that's weird. Still, I'm willing to bet it'll be brought over.
Either they're VC bound (what? It could happen) or its just Capcom being Capcom.
I'm blaming the Wii U burning bridges.
They figured they could just charge us 5 dollars per game for the emulated versions.
Sweet buying this on my xbox.
LOL @ the NDF running circles around Capcom's twitter. Like 68 people posting 12 tweets a minute hahaha
If USFII can run on the Switch, so can this.
Really the 3ds version didn't sell well because they never finished patching it. Mega Man 5 is absolutely awful, it's very glitchy unless you swap to Rockman 5.
I agree with those who say these are better played on an original NES. My wife loves Chip n Dale and we play coop sessions of that one all the time. It just wouldn't be the same without the real NES joysticks.
If Nintendo were smart, these would be released on the Switch with multiplayer online coop and a new series of NES original joysticks that work with the Switch.
We can play any way we want? Well how about gaming on the oldies with the joysticks they were meant to game with? They could bundle an NES joystick, with say one VC game code, for $30 & those would sell like crazy.
@carlos82
Uh huh. Just only Six PS4 games so far that Really Really Really Accepted for me. I Only play rated Everyone, E10+ & Teen games, so I have checked all from playasia. I used very Strict Filter (Only show E , E10+ & USA region at first Selection) and guess what ? ONLY found 5 pages ! ( 1 pages contain 36 titles so total is about 180 titles shown). And from around 180 titles of E & E10+ PS4 games, Only 5 titles that I accepted ! I also found FF XII The Zodiac Age will be on PS4 (Rated Teen games) so make Total Six PS4 games that I accept so far. Wanna know my choices so far ?
1. World of Final Fantasy, E10+
2. Earthlock: Festival of Magic, E10+
3. Overcooked, E
4. Ratchet & Clank, PEGI 7. (PS2 Remake)
5. Kingdom Hearts 1.5 + 2.5 HD Remix, E10+ (PS2 Remastered)
6. FF XII The Zodiac Age, Teen (PS2 Remastered)
Notice, just Only 3 Original PS4 games, 1 Remake from PS2, 2 Remastered in HD. I still have No Idea for accepted upcoming PS4 games in the future so make it really Worthless to only have 6 ps4 games only . I noticed PS4 games diversity was Very Very Poor despite of HD looking. Rated E & E10+ themself fulfilled with bunch of Racing, Football, USA Football, Realistic Baseball, Basketball & plenty of Boring games for me. Too typical for Male gamer. I rarely or didn't found any unique titles from genre that I like such as Rhythm, Simulation, Party, etc. PS4 have less interesting Rhythm games like DDR / Para Para Paradise / Guitar Freaks & Drummania, Kickboxing games like K-1 series, Life Simulation games like The Sims / Animal Crossing / Harvest Moon series, Party games like Bishi Bashi PS1/ Wii Party / Cooking Mama, 3D platformer or Sandbox like Super Mario Sunshine. I noticed PS4 have some Minecraft infusion games that Instantly killing my interest because I will never ever like Minecraft whatsoever (I hate to see So Blocky terrain). Because of that, I only found very few titles that suitable with my criterias above.
Well, sorry to explain very long explanation about my reasons.
@Anti-Matter how you choose your games is your business and it sounds like you limit yourself from many games, however you can't say that the diversity on PS4 is very very poor because that frankly is nonsense
@Switch81tch I'm a PS4 owner and I'll be buying this, also I don't have GTAV and I'm not a fan of Ubisoft so please don't generalise, now I'm off to play Yakuza 0 and Nier Automata like a good little casual 😃
This is utterly preposterous. I can't believe this would actually happen. I mean, it HAS to come to Switch or 3DS. (WiiU's completely out of the question) Capcom would sell so many copies on 3DS it's unreal. This news is beyond me. Someone needs to start a petition immediately.
@KTT You fiend!
I'd love to have this for the Switch... why was it skipped?
Can't really blame MegaMan Legacy Collection under performing. If it did, don't forget they had already released MM1-6 on the 3DS Virtual Console, so you have a reason there if a good chunk of 3DS owners had the games already.
Even so, a Switch port is a must. Not just for the Nintendo origins for all the games, but playing these on the go is a big selling point as well (Not to mention they won't eat the battery up as much as BOTW).
Almost 10 years ago I asked Capcom about bringing their Disney line of NES SNES games to the original Wii VC.
http://www.capcomdigital.com/go/thread/view/7481/568191/so-im-guessing-that-this-forum-can-be-used-for-vc-on-wii?liveView=1
this new announcement really hurts.
Instead we get 25 year old 2D fighter for $40 with 2 new character skins. Thanx, Capcom
@gatorboi352 One tweet every 5 seconds? What are they posting? VAPCOM AUDUEBSIDJWGGSH?
If they don't want my money they won't get it. I'll download the games to my NES mini console.
@SmaMan Capcom and Disney thinking? What madness do you speak?
Rare/M$ did screw Nintendo owners over with their Rare Classics Collection. I have no attachment to Conker, or some of their first games, but Battletoads and Snake , Rattle n Roll not coming to Ninty consoles was just painful.
Plus this decision is just dumb. I'm not saying other consoles shouldn't have it. But still.
Just as they said, let Capcom know you guys want it, start a petition or something.
We can also do that for some AA games (FF7)
Why. Why why why why WHY??? Capcom u are a fickle mistress...
@The-Chosen-one trying to bump your comment but my old iphone 4 won't let me lol. Agreed, the people shall be heard!
There's no D-pad on the Switch. So what'd be the point?
I own a PS4 but there's no way I would get this game for anything other than my Switch.
@Fandabidozi yes and no.i play shovel Knight using the buttons underneath the joy con lol
@Whopper744 I agree with you 100%. Most of my friends are surprised when they learn I'm a bigger fan of Disney than Nintendo.
I learnt a harsh lesson as a child with Chip N Dale. I swapped the NES game for some tat with a friend that I instantly regretted but he wouldn't swap back. I have never forgotten it.
So I will get this on PS4 though I would have preferred on Switch.
@The-Chosen-one
FF 7 Remake ?
Psst... add FF 8 + 9 Remake too.
I want to replay every single one of those games; especially Chip n Dale. PLEASE release this to the switch!
@MagicEmperor same here. Sadly I just can't afford WDW right now. Haven't in quite some time.
@CheezIt "The switch should be called THE GLITCH. That system is a wreck and I wouldn't even pay $50 for one."
You shouldn't talk like that when you don't own one, makes you sound butthurt that you didn't get one. I mean, you're comment doesn't even pertain to the subject of this column.
But, if you owned one and you had your gripes, well, that would be different.
Oh yeah, and this Disney Collection situation is weird. I got a feeling that it was setup by Nintendo though, seeing how the company has to profit from the virtual console. But, who knows at this moment. Not the biggest of deals though.
@NintySnesMan would never HAVE, jesus
Geez. People lit the hell out of Capcom's twitter feed about this not being on the switch. Literally... Every comment is about how angry people are that this isn't on the switch.. Hopefully they got the message. I won't buy this on any other system. I'm a big fan of the switch controller now and would prefer to play it on there vs my PS4
I didn't even know there was a Tail Spin game. Or a Darkwing Duck game for that matter.
This is the most ridiculous thing ive heard, a new low for Capcom.
NES games not being released on any Nintendo platforms, how? why???
3 years late to the party, buuuuuuut...any hope of Capcom changing its mind belatedly?
Man why can’t the switch get this and castlevania SOTN and dragon crown. That’s all I ask!
