We recently noted how well Snake Pass was doing in the UK download charts for Switch, but it seems the slithery physics platformer has established full European dominance. In a recent press release from Sumo Digital we learned that Snake Pass has secured the number one spot in various versions of the European Nintendo Switch eShop chart, topping sales in United Kingdom, France, Italy, Spain and the Netherlands.
That's pretty impressive given competition from other download-only titles such as Snipperclips - Cut it out, together! and FAST RMX, also seeing off other recent arrivals as well.
Here's what Snake Pass creator Seb Liese had to say on this achievement:
When I first had the idea for Snake Pass, I had no clue where the game would take me. But here we are today, having secured the number one spot on the Nintendo eShop chart in Europe. It's been such a pleasure to hear about everyone enjoying the game.
Paul Porter, COO of Sumo Digital went on to say:
I'm hugely proud of the studio and I know that everyone at Sumo is thrilled that the game has resonated with players to such a degree. We always knew Snake Pass was a great concept, but we've been totally surprised by the scale of positive reaction to the game. To be the first ever number one on the Nintendo eShop is a piece of hiss-tory I can get behind.

Well done!
I will definitely get this game when I get my Switch later this year! Could get it on my Xbox One but I'll wait it out, I got other games to play right now anyway.
I'll pass on Snake Pass for now.

Not really, the games you listed don't really have long shelf lives. As an EU Switch owner, we're that starved for content that most people will play anything/everything (not including myself) between major releases.
thats great. Love to know if it did great on the psn store and Xbone.
As said, there is an element of desire to play more titles on the Switch among early adaptors and hence they are more experimentally FAST RMX and Master Blaster Zero are only my 3rd and 4th digital games I've ever payed full price for.
Definitely a game with checking out. Hoping if they do a sequel, the problems with the checkpointing and camera are prioritised to be fixed
Not that surprised given the charming look of it. But ill wait on a price cut because the reviews made me a little worried. Anyway im still looking forward to it.
Does anyone get the significance of the title of the game?
That's some real positive news for the game. I expect more to come for the game including a sequel in the future.
Grabbed it on Friday and it's a cool game once you get hang of the controls.you will love it
I think it's done well because there isn't much competition on the eShop at the moment. Snipperclips and Fast RMX are older than 2 weeks old and they would've had most of their sales by now.
I got the game because it looks fun, a nice change from all the 2D games we seem to have on the eShop. Putting it bluntly, we're starved for content. I'd have many other games if they were available right now.
I wonder how the sales compare to the other consoles.
QUESTION: Snake Pass is #1 on the Switch eShop Charts. I live in Athens, Greece. Does this mean I just see the Greek Switch eShop Charts and not the European one?

We are still in EU .....Aren't we????
Anyway i am sure what you see is the EU charts.
I really want to get this. I'm just waiting to make sure we don't get a physical release first, even if it is on PS4 through Linited Run.
Great news for a deserving game. Maybe it wouldn't be #1 if it were up against Bloodstained or something, but it certainly deserves it. It's one of the most unique game CONCEPTS to arrive in a long long time in an industry terrified of unique concepts.
I still struggle with controlling Noodle enough across long horizontal poles that I don't go after the more precariously placed orbs and coins for 100% status, right now I'm just working on unlocking all the levels, but it's such a fun game when it all clicks together. The David Wise soundtrack certainly doesn't hurt.
Playing it 100% handheld and it seems perfect for it.
@arpaktiko I think with the Switch each country with an official eshop has its own chart.
Snake Pass is amazing and is also hard. I still can't get those mayan coins.
Thoroughly dessserved! Great game.
There's not much competition though.
I am so happy with this game. Just started it last night in my dorm lobby and people can't stop watching. I was surprised how quickly i wanted to go back. It's not frustrating, it's rewarding and satisfying to watch this little guy wind around when you get the hang of it.
@Grawlog I have mixed feelings on checkpoints. You can keep reactivating checkpoints, and there ARE checkpoints in each "major" island, so I'll often go to the checkpoint after collecting something. OTOH as Miyamoto has said a game should be stressful. I'm not quite the masochist he is when it comes to games where his philosophy is always "one difficulty level, learn to play right" But I get his point. There needs to be tension for the risk/reward mechanic to feel satisfying. Placing checkpoints far enough where you have to traverse SOME dangers without a safety net keeps the tension going and makes it more satisfying for it to pay off. If it were going for pure relaxation the spawn at last hard ground would work. If it's going for some challenge, then making you choose if you take your goodies and run back to checkpoint or risk one more move the current system isn't so bad. I just think it needs a few more, so you don't have to get your hard to get coin and THEN go across the somewhat hairy single long bamboo beam over spikes just to get back to the checkpoint. It's definitely possible to improve the check-pointing without killing the tension, but it's not a terrible design concept.
Really fun game ... they just need to allow you to skip cinematics (story stuff) when re-entering a stage.
@Grawlog Well, I love Snake Pass AND Has-Been Heroes so I'm probably the oddest of the bunch I'm still convinced the critics don't understand the point of H-BH is you're SUPPOSED to keep dying, it's how you level up!
Yeah I know some have described it as "chill" probably because Seb did. Then again Miyamoto seems to think Mario is pretty zen, and most of us have come close to cracking controllers in half with pure stress playing Mario games But I definitely wouldn't describe SP as "chill" It's a nice slow pace, yes, but it's definitely a platformer of sorts with lots of tension and perilous moments. Especially since the controls of the character are really the main puzzle. I find I'm holding my breath and the adrenaline's running often when making it over a treacherous pit over a lone horizontal pole. I'm gitting gud at moving vertically, but horizontals with little to hang onto...those are still nail biting. And sometimes the controls/cameras are problematic. I want the head to go over and it instead goes under or goes way too over and goes around, and then I fall off. But some of that is just real difficulty in mastering the controls like SF:0, and some of it is cheapness....figuring out where the border is is the hard part
Got it on PS4 Pro for the boost in framerate, but I'm honestly tempted to get it on Switch too. Love the game.
Sumo digital made a FUN game.. that's first and foremost important.. however they also created something incredibly unique with the way you fundamentally control the game.. you can almost feel the physics and you sure can see it and they NAILED it. You can see where the game evolved from what I believe was a rope by lifting noodles head and moving it around.. I have been gaming a LONG time and always looking for games that truly break the mold and this game surpasses a vast majority of other games because it's so well designed.. when a game really puts a smile on your face without you realizing it you know it's something really special. I already want more levels and I'm not big on DLC however I would buy it in an INSTANT!! I 100% the game and I will still come back for more to hone my skills.. it's a remarkable game and when people try to snub it, it's because they just can't grasp most games beyond "standard controls" Too bad for them I say!!
BUY THIS GAME NOW!!!!!!
