The internet is great for many things. It's an incredible resource for information on how the universe works, societies and cultures of the world and how to make a nice dressing for your salad. It's also home to people's passions that they can then share with others - in the gaming space alone people can share their art, videos, music and general love of the medium.
The internet is also great for complaints, lots and lots of them. If you want to know why people 'hate' something, the web is there for you, and you can wallow in unending despair and frustration - if that floats your boat.
With the launch of the Nintendo Switch we've had the full range of reactions. Nice little details and fun things have been found, but at the same time lots have been complaining about various aspects of the hardware. Some have been system owners with gripes, others (to be blunt) have been sniping from the sidelines, which they're perfectly entitled to do. Some of the issues we've covered in articles, others we've rolled our eyes at, so as previously promised we've brought together some of the most loudly made complaints and applied our own scale. For each one we share an opinion on whether the complaint is 'valid', 'fair-ish' or simply say 'are you kidding me?!'. The 'fair-ish' category reflects complaints that aren't necessarily inaccurate, but have been blown out of proportion. Some entries are a mix of two categories.
As this is the internet, the list of complaints is quite long... let's get to it!
It Should Have a Web Browser - 'Valid'
Nintendo, unsurprisingly, has brushed off the absence of a browser due to its focus on the core features of the console. The oddity, of course, is that the system does use a browser of sorts quite a lot, with the Switch using the same underlying set of tools and technology as 3DS and Wii U. Of course, Nintendo would need to customise and develop its version of a user browser, as it did with its previous systems, and that's the process that's been on ice.
This writer has been guilty in past comments on this for being dismissive of the need for a web browser, on the basis that smartphones and tablets are alternatives, yet that's not fair to those without those sorts of devices to hand. Beyond that it shouldn't be hard to pause a game, fire up a browser on the device and look at guides etc when needed, as could be a habit with the Wii U. All of the connectivity and capabilities people want is on the system, but it's just not been packaged and made available to end users.
Considering the tablet-like form of the device and its multi-touch screen, too, a browser really should be included; hopefully it'll come in an update soon.
It Should Have Media Apps Like Netflix, Amazon Prime etc - 'Valid'
Again, this writer has been dismissive of this complaint in the past (because of availability on other devices), which isn't entirely fair.
Much like the web browser, we suspect support for some apps will come along in a future update, but at launch there's no way to use the Switch (docked or portable) to stream TV or YouTube videos. Streaming is now the method through which so many consume their entertainment and media, so not having that on a gaming device in 2017 doesn't look particularly good.
Again, Nintendo focused on getting a gaming console out in this financial year, but the absence of apps like these isn't ideal, and is a step back from current support on Wii U (and even, to a degree, 3DS).
Locking Save Data to Hardware is Dumb - 'Valid'
This is a real quirk of data management on the Nintendo Switch, in that you have some control over where apps and screenshots go, but save data is always on the internal memory, whether you have a microSD card or not. Why?
One rather hopeful theory is that Nintendo is working on implementing automated cloud (online) backups of saves (like hardware rivals) through Nintendo Accounts. As these accounts are mandatory to access online services that would certainly make sense. Frankly, considering the complaints the company should also let us backup save data to external storage, regardless of potential Cloud plans.
Nintendo needs to hurry up and get on with it, though, as right now a broken, stolen or defective Nintendo Switch takes save data with it. If you get 60 hours into The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and then something goes wrong that'll really sting; that's an unacceptable and easily avoidable state of affairs. Even if Nintendo Customer Services makes good on potentially transferring save data when replacing systems for any reason, we shouldn't need to rely on that in 2017.
Dead Pixels Are a Defect - 'Valid'
This is one that could evolve to not be too much of a complaint, it'll depend on Nintendo's classification of what number of dead pixels justifies a replacement and how common the problem actually is. What's prompted concern is Nintendo's assertion that 'small numbers' of dead or stuck pixels are 'not a defect'.
LCD screens always carry a risk of defects and dead pixels, and hardware companies have different policies on what counts as severe enough for a replacement. Ultimately, anyone who puts down money for a Switch and finds their portable gaming compromised by defects on the screen will feel disappointed, and balancing that with the realities of consumer technology is tricky.
It's valid to say that affected screens are an issue though - the test will be how Nintendo handles complaints when the statistically inevitable flaws happen.
I Can't Charge the Console and Use Tabletop Mode at the Same Time - 'Valid'
Due to the USB-C charger input being at the bottom, you can't actually charge the system and play in Tabletop mode, unless perhaps you splash out on a third-party stand. It's a little odd, considering the fact that some games (like Snipperclips - Cut it out, together! and 1-2-Switch) are well suited to spontaneous multiplayer gaming on the go, one of the system's selling points. Yet the battery will die after a few hours, so if you forget to top it up you could have a game ending and no easy way to carry on while charging.
In a system that we'd argue is pretty well designed in terms of its engineering, this is a mis-step nonetheless.
The Lack of Bluetooth Headphone Support is Disappointing - 'Valid'
The Switch uses Bluetooth technology, of course, though some are disappointed that it doesn't support their wireless headphones. On the one hand it's not like these headsets are universally supported by all TVs etc, but they're becoming increasingly common. Especially, it must be said, since Apple ditched the conventional headphone socket in its latest devices, pushing millions of its users towards wireless Bluetooth sets.
At home it's easy enough for those with wired headphones to plug them into the console in portable mode, or use different setups through their TV. Ultimately, though, some are going wireless with headphones and it'd be preferable for Switch - especially considering its portable nature - to support that. Like a number of issues, hopefully it will get resolved in an update.
The Left Joy-Con is Disconnecting - 'Valid / Fair-ish'
Is there an occasional problem with Bluetooth connectivity in the left Joy-Con? Yes. If you're a certain distance away from the hardware and 'obscure' it, there can be momentary issues with inputs on the controller. Is it a constant problem? Certainly not in 'normal' gameplay. It seems to be something that can pop up occasionally, cause a few seconds of headscratching and then go away for a while.
So the 'fair-ish' co-rating reflects the fact that the internet took a relatively small issue (which Nintendo should resolve, no doubt) and attempted to make it a big problem. It all got a little silly considering the reality (and actual frequency) of the problem.
[Update: As an interesting side-note, some theories bouncing around suggest this is a hardware issue and not fixable through firmware. If that's accurate (which it might be, we're not 100% sure) then this will be complained about until the cows come home.]
The Battery Life is Too Short - 'Fair-ish'
Is the Nintendo Switch battery a hulking beast that means we can play Zelda on a trans-Atlantic flight with no charging? No. It seems comparable to the original 3DS in terms of game time, which is enough for a sensible session but not particularly amazing.
That said, a few hours should be a decent session before most 'switch' to the dock or plug the thing in, albeit with the aforementioned 'valid' complaint about being unable to charge in Tabletop mode. Let's remember, Switch is the most powerful portable gaming system out there, and can do relatively impressive things on the go. If you play a demanding game at full settings on your smartphone or tablet, what happens? Its battery drains faster than a bathtub.
Batteries in technology are still mediocre in most devices when strained (only impressive when doing little and in 'sleep' mode), so the Switch is using a fairly hefty battery just to get modest results when pushing its games. It's not brilliant, but that's modern technology. Powerful but mean on batteries - that's why so many heavy users of smartphones and tablets carry an external power supply in their bags.
It's Too Expensive - 'Fair-ish'
The debate around the core price of the Nintendo Switch hardware definitely has two valid sides. A $249.99 core offering could have really ticked boxes with a broader consumer base, but it's also worth acknowledging that we're buying a tablet-like console, the dock and two very clever and impressive Joy-Con controllers out of the box. Whether the $299.99 price point will resonate outside of dedicated early adopters will become clear in the next few months.
When topping up with accessories, though, being a Switch owner is expensive. Extra Joy-Con, the Pro Controller, a case, games, it all adds up to a lot of money. First world problems, for sure, though as is practically always the case with any hardware launch the initial prices are perhaps a little higher than ideal.
It's always been that way with new gaming hardware from Nintendo and its rivals. Nothing new here.
The Joy-Con Wrist-Straps Are Tough / Annoying to Put On - 'Fair-ish'
Adding these little black plastic wrist-strap grips is surprisingly fiddly and difficult, especially considering how intuitive and easy it is to connect and detach the Joy-Con controllers to the system and Grip. The wrist-strap grips make the shoulder buttons easier to hit and add a little safety, but they can be pretty hard to clip in and remove. The small 'lock' lever is a tad awkward, and it feels like too much force is needed at times.
Not exactly a critical issue, but certainly a fiddle.
It's Too Easy to Scratch the Screen - 'Fair-ish' / 'Are You Kidding Me?!'
The Nintendo Switch screen isn't the sort of tough glass you get on some smartphones and tablets. This was possibly a pricing issue, with the system being sold at a rate below some of the better smart devices out there and including controllers etc in the box. A screen protector is certainly worth considering if you can apply it well enough that it's not a bubbly mess. There are also some that have reported a dock that was slightly out of shape or scratched right out of the box, and that then damaged the screen; some of those owners are successfully getting replacements from Nintendo, too. That's the 'fair-ish' perspective.
That said, we do think some have evidently been reckless with their devices and then complained that the screen isn't as tough as The Thing's backside. Yes, the dock should have a little more protection, but in some cases we do wonder what gamers are doing to scratch the system so badly when docking it. Practicing their tap dancing as they put the console in and out of the dock? It's simple, with a bias towards the back of the dock (meaning any impact is on the non-screen side) slowly slot it in, and likewise carefully remove it. It's not hard to be careful.
You've spent a lot of money on a console. Nintendo could have put more material on the dock and included a screen protector in the box, but do show care towards it. And if you have kids / cats / dogs / other pets, put it away somewhere in a draw / bag / whatever.
Friend Codes Are Back Arghghdghhgghghghgh - 'Fair-ish' / 'Are You Kidding Me?!'
Friend codes aren't great. That's fair.
The reaction to them being one option on the Switch, less so.
What the Switch lacks at launch is the ability to add friends through Twitter and Facebook - Miitomo did this, and oddly you can add friends from that (and Super Mario Run / Fire Emblem Heroes) on Switch, so Nintendo got halfway there. We expect an update will add these social networks as options in the future.
Friend codes may be a bad thing, but even their implementation isn't as obnoxious as in the past. The code entry need only go one way - you can send / accept / reject friend code requests without knowing the other person's code, avoiding the ponderous double exchange.
So just chill the heck out.
There Are No Games - 'Are You Kidding Me?!'
There are games on Switch at launch, what some mean is that it doesn't have the exact games they want.
There's a cross-platform all-time-great game, a party game, a return of a classic Konami franchise and a few more at retail. On the eShop there's futuristic racing, another RPG, a lovely first-party co-op puzzle game, a fantastic 'Nindie' platformer and a few more options. If a different region's eShop has games you want you can even access them relatively easily, too.
We've seen worse launch line-ups, that's for sure.
The Nintendo Switch is an Underpowered Wii U Wannabe - 'Are You Kidding Me?!'
We won't know what the Switch can really do for a little while, just like it takes every console a year or two to really push its limits. Developers get used to the tools and get better at extracting performance.
The Breath of the Wild, of course, can be directly compared to its Wii U iteration. On the new system there's a higher resolution, deeper colours and improved sound. That said, the gulf isn't massive, so Wii U owners get an absolutely fine-and-dandy version of a wonderful game (we're going to have finalised impressions of that iteration with you soon).
We've seen some people online use that comparison to bash the Switch for its power. Yet the arguments are moot - Nintendo's been a 'concept' hardware developer for multiple generations now, that is the path it's chosen. If you want to home in on the negative then, yes, there are serious doubts the Switch can deliver the experiences that strain PS4 / Xbox One and will find cosier homes on PS4 Pro / Scorpio. What else is new?
Some developers have been honest and suggested this, and others have also praised what the Switch can do on a technical level, not just in its power - especially related to its portable form factor - but in its tricks and capabilities with Joy-Con and so on. Not all developers want to produce epic open-world multi-platform titles with end credits that feature hundreds of names, it's a broader gaming world.
The comparisons in raw power with Sony and Microsoft hardware will never stop, and it's not easy for some to accept that some multi-platform mega-games will always require a PC / PS4 / Xbox One to play. Yet the Switch is very much its own beast with its own possibilities - you can choose to find that exciting rather than a stick with which to beat it.
So there you go, a take on some of the valid and less-so complaints around the Switch. Let us know what you think of these (and anything else we've not mentioned) in the comments.
Comments 288
That's a long list of complaints.
The TV on which I play my Switch can stream Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, etc. I don't really need my Switch to do that.
Same thing with a web browser. My TV can do that. My iPad can do that. I don't need my game to do that. I used the feature once or twice on the WiiU.
My biggest issue is the left joy-con as my couch needs to be a bit closer to the TV.
Soooo how much less powerful is the Switch than PS4/XB1?
I'm surprised one of my biggest issues hasn't been addressed in the article: the fact that you can't fully power down the Switch while the console is docked.
"It doesn't make toast" -VALID
This seems fair, and there were more "valids" here than I was expecting. There's plenty of good things about the Switch, but it does have a lot of problems as well.
My favorite comes from IGN: You can't lay the dock down. I don't agree that the battery life is too short. Playing BotW for 3 hours on a handheld is an amazing feat in my opinion.
First things first, I love my switch. I have owned ever Nintendo console and portable and countless games. I am the very definition of a Nintendo fanboy, and will buy just about anything Nintendo sells... that said, I'm not completely blind to the issues, and I'd like to think I'm able to provide an unbiased perspective on them...
That said, I think the left Joy-Con complaints are more than valid. Nintendo had to have known this was an issue prior to launch. Unfortunately, I believed the issue would be fixed prior to launch (Or with the day one patch). Instead, my system is completely unusable docked with the Joy-Con. Luckily, after calling customer support, they offered to repair my Joy-Con for free (Which was interesting, as the agent said it was a hardware issue), and they sent me a pro controller overnight for $35. My system is not near any other electronics and I sit less than 10 feet away from the system - there really is no excuse it should disconnect/lag/register stuck inputs as often as it does. I understand it isn't impacting everyone, but for those of us it does, it really sucks.
So long story short, I definitely don't think they should get a pass on the Joy-Con issues, and I think people should be making a big deal about it. Especially now that videos are surfacing showing some poor design choices (No antenna in the left Joy-Con) that appears to be the culprit. Nintendo's only saving grace (With my experience) was their helpful customer support, offering overnight shipping on repairs and on a half price pro controller.
And I don't understand the need for media apps and web browser. Never used them on any of my other game consoles.
I can't web browse on my toaster either. I will just use a computer or my phone instead.
The scratching of screen is valid. Sorry but a gorilla Glass screen is not expensive. The cheapest Chinese budget Chinese phones use them. No reason for Nintendo to go with a plastic screen.
Also why did you not mention that the dock scratches the switch. That is perfectly valid and cannot be denied.
Regarding the dock, I cant believe Nintendo are charging $90 for extra docks. That thing is pure plastic which cost about $5 to make.
Go watch the teardown on YouTube if you don't believe me..
Where is the fact that so many people are having wifi issues? It's definitely firmware/hardware related. That is my only real complaint with the system. Everything else in my house is fine.
"Game cards taste bitter"
Sony have the exact same policy regarding dead pixels on the Vita. But no surprise, journalists haven't reported on that fact.
@uncha1n3d why do you need to power it down while docked? The only times you would need to turn the power off are when you are physically holding it and can turn it off (swapping sd cards, packing for travel, etc).
If it's docked and connected to a power source, there's really no need to turn the power off...just keep it sleeping.
$470 Is way too much for me atm. Zelda is $80. And I'd need a carry case, screen protector etc...
Great article.
I pretty much agree with everything written here (in terms of the NintendoLife writer's views on the various online frustrations with the Switch). Especially as the ones closer to the bottom of the list make the "Are You Freakin' Kidding Me list." But definitely legit gripes like the save data issue, lack of web browser, and lack of streaming apps are frustrations I have. I will say it was convenient to just boot up my browser on my Wii U gamepad to look up something quick in a game. Just last night I needed to look up what I needed to craft a certain item in Breath of the Wild. But I left my phone in the bedroom and was playing Switch in the living room on my couch. Yeah it's not the end of the world to walk up and go get the phone, but the added convenience of just pausing the game and booting up a quick google search on the Switch itself would have been rather awesome right then and there.
Gamers won't typically care about the lack of streaming apps. The "casual" audience that Nintendo wants to pull back in from the Wii era, however, does care and always will.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE no red ring of death or yellow light of death. I think we will be ok.
The fact that you're not experiencing the left Joy-Con issue as much as we are doesn't mean we are making a bigger deal out of it than we should.
It looks just like a tablet to casual users so they expect it to have basic tablet features like a web browser and netflix.
Before this thread gets too long I want to say
THANK YOU, NINTENDOLIFE STAFF!!
I don't have a Switch, but I'm so pumped for exciting Nintendo news after the recent dearth of Wii U's end-of-life and I could probably read a new article every 5 minutes if you printed them. I know you guys are working EXTREMELY hard to keep up and even though an article like this may seem off the wall, I'm thankful to you for writing it and giving me more places to enjoy the Nintendo goodness.
I LOVE my Switch. These complaints were inevitable. People always feel good complaining about something.
I feel like digging into older reviews of the SNES and see what the complaints were about it. I remember my power cord MELTING in the back and ruining my console. I loved my SNES as a kid but I know it wasn't perfect, yet people get very nostalgic and try to compare their fond memories to the present. It will never be comparable.
I'd say the Joy-Con wrist strap issue is a valid complaint. The fact you can put them on the wrong way is one thing, but the fact that removing them after doing so is super difficult and can possibly damage the controller is another. That's rediculous for something so easy to do by accident.
"no red ring of death or yellow light of death. I think we will be ok."
@faint No, but I've heard of the blue screen of death.
And the orange screen of death.
@faint You sure? https://youtu.be/Cb-srOfRqNc
Interesting format. Lets see im my very own complaints stack up, although i didn't have that many to begin with ^^
Wobbyl JoyCons in portable mode: Nope
Feels rather solid, but i wouldn't dare to hold the entire System on just one JoyCon
No D-Pad renders 2D Games unplayable: Nope
Even though it took a little getting used to (Left/Right double inputs etc), i beat Shovel Knight with it. If a precision platformer can be beaten with it, it works perfectly fine
Never forget the evergreen complaint: "It's a Nintendo console".
People will complain about the lack of a browser right up until they have one. Then they will proceed to not use it since it is infinitely easier to surf on a PC.
On the scratching and "keep it away from kids/pets... be careful"
Except one problem - kids buy games! Haha. Nintendo has always aimed for the entire family including young kids so... hide it from them is not a great selling point. Otherwise this is a great write-up and I pretty much agree with all of it.
Before I buy Switch I would like to see the following changes:
1. scratching issue fixed
2. disconnecting issue fixed
3. saving however I want (not locked to system, preferably to the game itself like my sweet, sweet SNES, but at the very least cloud-saves without paying$$)
4. Dead pixel issue fixed
5. Beyond Good & Evil 2
Interesting, I do hope it will get a browser though, as it probably will
@Deadstanley
it's not the entry for me, it's the ease of use.
Much easier for a guy at work to be like "add me on xbox, I'm speedracer216."
I can remember that later.
Instead of "hey dude, add me on Switch, I'm.... hold on let me find it. I thought i kept it in my wallet in case anyone asked. uh..... oh here it is. add me on Switch, I'm 118389AXLf83NB."
I have no chance of remembering that unless I also keep track of it. Like the difference between brutal WEP keys or just a passphrase. It's ease of use. So to me? Not a deal breaker in any sense of the word, but I get it for why people complain.
@Menchi187 wake me up when 100 people have this problem
@JHDK
Future update:
"It makes toast but it burns the toast." VALID
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
"That's a long list of complaints."
I bet that just fills you with sheer joy and giddiness to see all those complaints.
I'd like to see the WiFi issue addressed as well - but overall this is a FUN system!
@KirbyTheVampire No it doesn't. Hopefully, they can iron some of those out with firmware updates or with a future Switch revision. A price drop too and if it does well it "might" get the big AAA games.
I totally and definately agree with all "valid"s and "fair-ish"s. Well said ones. Nintendo, please hear us. I would also add, "there should be Miiverse" and "there should be activity log". Switch is still great, but come on Nintendo.
I don't have an issue with most of this. Would like Netflix but I can have that on other devices. The only issue with me is the wrist straps, I accidentally put one on backwards and was a hassle to take it off.
@NL: Don't forget about all of the Day One update belly-aching. That was literally the WORST 40 seconds of my life, lol. "Are you kidding me?" for sure.
I just have two key gripes at this stage:
1. Profiteering retailers charging outrageous prices for games, this will surely correct in time; and
2. Lack of VC support. I could get over this very quickly if Nintendo announced a mini-SNES
@Frosty_09 Oh snap, Spawn Wave is trending? Good for him. It's one of my favorite tech channels.
"When topping up with accessories, though, being a Switch owner is expensive. Extra Joy-Con, the Pro Controller, a case, games, it all adds up to a lot of money. First world problems, for sure, though as is practically always the case with any hardware launch the initial prices are perhaps a little higher than ideal."
I'm sorry, but this is silly. Aside from the games (are we SERIOUSLY including games as a cost of the system?), none of these are necessary to enjoy the system. ANY system is expensive if you buy all of the accessories and add-ons for it.
Perhaps we should consider the price of an HDTV or computer monitor when talking about the cost of a PS4 or Xbone. That would be fair, right? Can't use those machines without a TV or monitor.
I guess my complaints are:
1. A bit underpowered. Zelda and other games get pretty framey. Wish they used the Pascal Tegra instead.
2. Power adapter cable is way too short.
3. The dock's hidden ports seemed like a good idea to begin with, but they point right and my TV and AV unit are to the left of it. It limits where I can put it.
Why did N not do a docking station that looked like Wii U controller stand? there is no need to cover the screen ... :/
@Aslanmagic You too, haven't heard yet it being a common problem, but I also have Wifi issues with Switch, it seems to be really unstable, and lot slower even at best than what my internet speed is, which is about 90 MB/s and Switch get's only about 25 MB/s at best, but is constantly slowing down a lot, even though I have the router in same room
@SirGeeky I'll go ahead and quote rallydefault's comment from the main Switch thread.
"I'm all for pointing out flaws in the Switch - I've pointed out quite a few across a couple different threads here. But people, can we PLEASE stop judging the Switch's power based on a game that was designed from the ground up for a DIFFERENT, less powerful system AND for different architecture?? Like, logically, come on. Has this not occurred to anybody how ridiculous this is??
And no, "they had time to optimize" doesn't work logically, either. How long have they been working on the next 3D Zelda game? Since Skyward Sword, probably? That's like 6 years. When do you think they decided to bring the game to the Switch as well (basically, when did they realize the Wii U was a lost cause)? AT MOST I'll give you 2 years, but in reality BotW probably wasn't shifted until about a year ago. That's not a whole lot of time to get the game running perfectly on completely different architecture. Add in the reports that Nintendo was very clear in wanting parity between the games, and you have a recipe for a not-optimized game, even on superior hardware. That's all it is. It is in no way an indicator of actual power."
Most of those seem reasonably rated to me, but one of them is just wrong from the get-go—or you're miss-hearing and/or misinterpreting the actual complaint somewhat:
"There Are No Games - 'Are You Kidding Me?!"
Now, if it were just a matter of people complaining of there literally being no or few games overall, fine; there's probably about a hundred games confirmed for the system at this point, so it's valid rating.
But, the real issue most people are actually raising is the lack of major AAA third party support (and new titles at that, not last-gen ports/remasters), and in that respect it's nowhere even near close to sniffing being in the "Are You Kidding Me?!" category.
Taking the actual complaint properly "There Are [basically] No AAA Third Party Games", it's pretty much - 'Vaid'
Also, there's more complaints than just the one you listed, such as the complete and utter lack of any Virtual Console right now. And what about the greatly overpriced peripherals (additional Joy-Con, the Pro controller, an extra dock, etc.), which is really a separate issue to the price of the console itself (plus necessary game)?
The system is already very cool, and it has a load of potential; I just hope Nintendo takes all of complaints seriously though, and actually addresses them all satisfactorily. Because that, imo, is where the line can often be drawn between moving towards success and failure in the long run—and truly satisfying or ultimately disappoint too.
Console Locked Save Data:
I agree with this article. Unless Nintendo is working on a cloud storage I don't see the point of having no option at all to back up your game saves. I imagine that if Nintendo does introduce cloud storage to the Switch then it'll be most likely be within the online fee.
No Charging In Table Top Mode:
Sigh... yup. We have no choice but to switch to a different play set up once the battery is completely drained.
As I said in other posts though, I play in console mode with a pro controller. And in handheld mode when I'm away from home.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE And that's not even all of them. I mean, where's the extremely valid complaint that there's zero Virtual Console on the system right now? This is something many people consider far more important than many of the things on the current list. Or what about the greatly overpriced peripherals (additional Joy-Con, the Pro controller, an extra dock, etc.), which is really a separate issue to the price of the console itself (plus necessary game)?
Most of those things can be solved over the next 6 months - web, browser, video apps, save data being cloud based and friend codes certainly can
Hopefully the following can also be addressed via firmware updates - left joycon disconnects (although it hasn't happened to me), bluetooth headphones
Things like dead pixels and such will be exchanged or repaired if enough people complain about them I'm sure.
The charging thing is a really bizarre thing to me though, why they didn't put the port at the top still puzzles me now.
@uncha1n3d Actually, the sleep mode the Switch goes into is similar to what the Xbox One does when you "shut it down". If the console can download, it's not really off.
The switch has a plastic screen so it can take drop damage. The dock in fact does not scratch your system if you remove the system correctly as in straight up with the joy cons, wait until it clears the top of the dock then pull it away, don't drag it out like a piece of paper from a printer, I pulled my switch out of the dock multiple times and have yet to see scratches. Joycon desync was a problem until I dropped my left blue one by accident, and now there's no dysync (I know it's strange). Not only that I bought the left red and right blue joy cons for my neon switch, and out of the box the left joycon has no problems at all, so it seems it's something happening to the included joycons. Last but not least I took a risk by buying a launch console, and everything worked out for me, hopefully Nintendo will address the others. Also I'm positive they're planning a cloud
The 'Are you kidding me' award goes to this article... iI can't believe it avoids all of the actually insanely valid complaints about the system at lunch: dead/malfunctioning systems, system freezes, systems not recognizing game carts, insane screen issues, systems not charging at all and all of the other crap people have been having to deal with.
So no real issue.
@Rekiotsu I saw this this morning
https://www.google.com/amp/www.polygon.com/platform/amp/2017/3/6/14831896/nintendo-switch-wi-fi-issues
I can see peoples complaint about launch games. The people at the store I work at were surprised to see only 4 retail launch games. They were sure we just didn't carry them all and decided to check Walmart for more games. Even after I told them that is all that was released so far.
The lack of any kind of Virtual Console is probably thee biggest complaint I have with the system right now—and, I'm afraid it might not even get a proper Virtual Console at all. I also don't consider the Virtual Console being part of a paid service as counting, because I'd like it be something every Switch owner has the option to spend money on as and when they choose, rather than being a forced and ongoing monthly cost.
You guys must not have the really bad joy-cons. I do. I played 6 feet away from the console, clear line of sight, and I had lots of disconnects (that resulted in more than a few mishaps and a couple of deaths).
Also, the power-off thing deserves a mention at least. I use an HDMI switch that detects active input. When sleeping, the Switch triggers it and steals the input from other devices every 3-5 minutes. I have to power it off fully by holding the button down for 12 seconds to prevent this.
@roadrunner343 its great when those of us have no issues but if we do have an issue it's frustrating. I had rrod on xbox360 on my launch console. Microsoft helped ease my anxiety and sent a new console in two days and new accessories. Its good when a company acknowledges a flaw and compensates you for it
@Tsusasi It's an electronic device. Electronic devices have defects from time to time. No device is always going to have an absolutely issue-free launch. None. As long as the company is willing to make things right, that's about the best you can do.
Hopefully they fix things like Bluetooth headphone support and add a way to access the browser in updates down the line...
I think the switch will be a great secondary console.
For all the people complaining about streaming apps, just use the PS4 PS3 Wii Wii u Xbox iPad smartphone for that.
Great list, and you addressed the issues really well. I'm surprised, your more or less nailed my own views on a lot of it which I didn't expect. Impressed the screen scratching was placed so low, and impressed BT headphones and save data were placed so high! Surprised the dead pixels thing was so high...that's industry bog-standard. It shouldn't be, but it is.
Had to laugh at this "Not all developers want to produce epic open-world multi-platform titles with end credits that feature hundreds of names, it's a broader gaming world."
And what platform is the highest rated of said open world multi-platform epic titles with credits featuring hundred of names? Switch/WiiU
I'm hoping after launching with Zelda and picking up Skyrim, Switch becomes a haven for the epic open world games, actually. The hybrid nature of the console makes it ideal for those games, despite the benefits for visuals on the high horsepower machines.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE It's the internet. I expected a longer list. How dare they not make the list longer like we deserved! Now I'm depressed/angry/enraged and I need to tell the world!
@HeroOfTime32 I use an HDMI switch that detects active input. When sleeping, the Switch periodically triggers it and steals the input every 3-5 minutes. Also, it draws a lot more power when sleeping than when fully off.
@SanderEvers You simply don't have a grasp of how companies have their apps on any media device. Yes, Netflix and Amazon do make the apps, but Nintendo simply wouldn't be bother to ask them to put them on the Switch.
Having these apps absent on the Switch just hurt Nintendo and its fans, while depriving Nintendo of a revenue of sorts. My only hope is that a more robust eShop is in the works that allows you to buy movies to download to your Switch, along with a patch for HD functionality.
Does anybody else miss being able to switch from your handheld to your TV(and vice versa) just from sitting on your couch like you could with the Wii u. I always forget you can't do that with the switch and I'm like shoot I gotta physically get up and go dock this thing.
Oh so many complaints,I don't have any of these problems with my GBA SP and VITA. I am sure the switch will come good especially when AC Amiibo Festival 2 is announced
@Ralizah While that is true, there is no denying that the accessories are priced very high. The Joy-Con and Pro Controller are very expensive. You can argue they are worth it due to the tech packed in, but it still costs an arm and a leg. Also, for some (Myself included) the pro controller was a necessity, as I simply can't play docked with the Joy-Con. For me, it really is that bad, even when sitting very close to the dock.
@MindWanderer
I also use an hdmi splitter that automatically switches to the powered on device. And I was having that same problem with the Switch activating its input when I wasn't using it. Then I just connected the Switch HDMI cord to the last in line input on the splitter and that solved the problem
@yorumi Agreed. I tried handing my 11 week old son my switch, and he just shoved it on the floor with no respect.
Seriously though, you bring up a great point. While many of us likely do baby our consoles (Myself included) children will obviously be using these. Don't expect them to be so careful when docking and undocking, so I think that is definitely a design flaw. Before I actually got my switch in my hands, I just assumed there was some sort of material on the interior to prevent it from scratching, and was quite surprised to find there wasn't.
@Tsusasi We're talking issues that will/might continue over the long haul, not a few faulty units.
I wish consumers were more concerned with consumer interests than with corporate
I know netflix and youtube are coming soon and i am expecting it. My family uses netflix a lot and is the only reason why i have been powering my xbox on since the switch launched. Same thing with youtube.
@Yorumi It comes with everything necessary to enjoy the console. Yes, extra conveniences are going to cost extra. Same with pretty much any system out there. Do you seriously think you're entitled to free game cases, power bank accessories, etc.?
@roadrunner343 Complaints about the cost of accessories are fair, as are complaints about the joycon sync issues. The system should work as intended out of the box. But those aren't what I was addressing in my post. If your joycons aren't working well with the Switch when docked, you should return the system ASAP, as the product is clearly defective.
I can't be the only one who isn't bothered about anything on this list.
@MindWanderer That's a valid point I had only slightly thought amount (HDMI switch). I'm not home right now to check, but I recall seeing something in the system settings that was along the lines of "mimicking TV power settings" or something like that. Maybe you can toggle that setting and hope the Switch doesn't send 'power on' signals to your HDMI switch???
At least, that's what I thought this system setting was for. Can't remember exactly what its called or where in the settings its in, but I do remember seeing it yesterday.
Give it a shot. Hope it works.
Otherwise you can always reconfigure (I know it's a pain) your hook-up configuration to compensate.
@Ralizah Sorry if I misunderstood your post, but to me, it sounded like you were defending the cost of accessories because they weren't "necessary" for to enjoy the console, which I only partially agree with. Multiple controllers are needed for local co-op, which for many is the main appeal of the system. I know that I primarily play console games with my Wife or friends (I'm primarily a PC gamer otherwise).
As for my issues with the Joy-Con, I'll agree with that - which is why I contacted customer support to set up a repair, and nabbed myself a pro controller for $35 shipped overnight. So hopefully all my issues are soon resolved =) I received the pro controller, which works great, but have yet to ship back my left joy-con.
@jaymacx Yours must not have been an early RRoD. MS was actually the example of just how bad bad can get. They spent a full year denying they had any sort of problem whatsoever, and only after a media outlet, I forget which one, ran the stats and made a case study of it were they finally forced to admit it and retroactively compensate the customers they stiffed and lied to. The RRoD scandal almost toppled XBox had they not eventually been forced to take the 360 180 and replace everything no matter what out of fear of the backlash and optics of doing otherwise.
@yorumi you really don't have to baby it that much. Be careful, yes. Don't smash it in the dock like it's a VHS rental of Die Hard on release day. But I've picked it up one handed, put it in, pulled it at odd angles facing screen side with one hand, it's all been fine. Don't be reckless, but but you don't have to treat it like a uranium control rod. Check your dock - run your finger down the tall ribs on the screen side. Do you feel that soft bit of silicone in there? Mine has that. @einjerjar doesn't it seems, so it seems there's some docks missing the padding. Maybe defective docks, or maybe it's something where the EU models are lacking the pads.
@mike_intv I don't need it either but is cool to have for those that want them.
And there's more issues not mentioned in the article.
~ no VC.
~ Online subscription.
~ various screens of death.
~ awful wi-fi signal problems.
~ changing the battery in the future is going to be a big hassle
Ok 1,2,3 and 7 are really valid points but they will most likely get patch and resolve. Now 4,5 and 6 are worrisome stuff. The rest falls in the are u kidding me category for me.
@roadrunner343 Nope. I'm saying it's not fair to factor optional accessories in when you consider the price of the system. Extra controllers, game cases, cords for power banks, etc. are nice, but they're not something any reasonable person would expect a new launch console to come with out of the box.
I'm unhappy with Nintendo's pricing on some of the accessories. $90 for a dock is ridiculous, considering it's an empty piece of plastic with an HDMI and power cord. I still think, considering its battery life and included tech, the Pro controller is reasonably priced. Joycons are overpriced because they have a lot of useless gimmicky tech in them that 90% of players will likely never use.
no system is perfect. don't hate me for it but im actually having fun with the system.....weird I know.
@JHDK LMAO block the heat port and it should fix that
@mike_intv You carry your TV with you on the go?
@Ralizah agree.
@retribution same here!! Have not touch my PS4 since Friday.
@Ralizah Oh yeah, I agree with you. Just misunderstood your point. I definitely wouldn't expect to receive extra controllers. However, I do think it's stupid that the grip they included can't charge the Joy-Con. That's the only valid complaint I see.
Nintendo Store UK didn't deliver on time - VALID
Good list. I agree with most of the verdicts. Thankfully flaws like the missing web browser, lack of streaming apps, non-support for Bluetooth headphones, save data lock can all be fixed over the next few months. I don't have an issue with the battery life personally.
However, you missed the absent VC.
...a few fixable complaints there, but the worst one has to be that STICKERS damage my Switch! - VALID ..

'Are You Kidding Me?!'..stickers?..
@roadrunner343 I would agree if the joycons didn't have such a good battery life, but, unless you forget to plug them back into the Switch at night, it's extremely unlikely that they'll run out of power.
@Yorumi Mountains out of molehills. The included charger's length is fine. Not great, but not terrible, either. How long do you want it to be, exactly?
Not being able to charge in tabletop mode out of the box... I mean, it's a side-effect of the system's design. Where would you have opted to put the charging port?
Joycons have 20+ hour battery life. There's absolutely no reason you should need to charge them when undocked. Just connect them to the Switch when you go to bed and you're good. You're seriously reaching on this one.
I don't know why you're bringing up their dock pricing. I don't agree with that pricing. You'll get no argument from me that extra docks are hideously overpriced.
For people who only like to have one console, it does need a browser and video apps. Its nice to pause the game, watch some TV, and not switch machines. I could run my Wii U and Switch simultaneously, but thats silly. Screen scratching? I've always used screen protectors on my devices. If you're buying a device thats over $100, um, get a screen protector. Armor that baby. No kid games? Well. Lets be honest, I would have liked to see a platformer other than Shovel Knight. They port Yoshi's Wooly World to 3DS, but could have easily put it on Switch too. If I hadn't owned a Nintendo console in years, that would have been an easy day one buy, and excellent "share the joy" experience. They could at least have Mario All-Stars or something ready off the bat. I'd pay $30 for All-Stars + World, day one, to appease retro gamers and whatnot.
But I'm happy with my Switch, and Zelda along with Fast RMX is enough to keep me satisfied.
@Yorumi 3DS doesn't even have a charging cable in the box. So, this is a step up.
I would like the things you mention, but I prefer the costs to be divided. That way, those who don't need them aren't paying for things they don't want.
As it is, the Switch is already forcing some people to buy a dock when they only want to use it on the go or on the TV. There are difficult trade-offs everywhere and adding costs to the box.
How many people really want the base console to cost more? You "easily" add a divided charger with a cable and the cost goes up. (Might not seem like much but cheap USB-C cables are burning up devices and Nintendo has control over the connected adapter this way) You add a stand, cost goes up again.
You add hardware (second port? More complicated connections in dock?) to make it chargeable while propped up and it all becomes even more "fiddly".
Yep, there are many trade-offs. This is what we have. This sounds more argumentative than it is. I mean, you want more out of the device and there's things that bother you that would make it better. My only quibble is that there's no easy answer to them. The Nintendo Switch is a result of a bundle of very, very tough decisions, in my opinion. It's quite a balancing act. I'm loving it so far, but... I did preorder that HORI stand.
Also, it did take some adjustment but I'm no longer convinced that the Pro Controller I do own and use is as necessary as it felt at first. I decided to try playing Zelda with the two halves of JoyCon by my sides and it is pretty great that way. Had to get used to the extra sensitivity they have, though. Easier to click the analog stick buttons. That did unearth the connectivity issue a bit because we placed it way across the room, but nothing too serious. Also, it feels weird to use the buttons as a control pad, but they are small enough that it works pretty well, and I wouldn't want to lose the two-player out of the box experience.
The upsides to the design are pretty great though. Playing SniperClips with my son in the doctor's waiting room was the highlight of the form factor so far.
@Ralizah But why create two different versions in the first place? That just seems silly. Especially since they know many people would be using this as a home console only, so being able to charge in grip rather than disconnecting/reconnecting the joy-cons is certainly more convenient. Definitely not a big deal, for sure, but it still seems like an odd design choice. Charging an extra $30 to add a USB port does look bad on Nintendo, in my opinion.
Interesting read.
I wanted to mention regarding not being able to charge the Switch in table top mode - has no one thought of using the stand that came bundled with Kid Icarus Uprising?
The stand is a bit small but can still support the Switch upright & an at obtuse angle (best on a hard surface of course) plus there is a gap in the middle of that fold out stand, wide & deep enough for the charging cable to fit in without the cable bending so much at an angle.
Not the best solution but an idea nonetheless..(might help save you paying out a bit extra for a stand)
My biggest complaint is that they don't have enough in stock... Everywhere is sold out
@coolaggro
100% Agreed.
@coolaggro
Wrong mate. There readily available in Ireland and UK,
@roadrunner343 It was a decision made to save a few cents, I'm sure. And to peddle the charging grips as their own thing. I don't disagree that it's a bit cheap on Ninty's part.
@KirbyTheVampire Aaaah... but we have no idea just how wide spread the problem is or how long these will continue to pop up. I'm sure 360 fans said the same thing about the red ring of death...
Only time - and people actually talking about it/getting Nintendo to address it - will tell.
@NintySnesMan Right, I guess I just knew about my city in the states and Tokyo. I'm glad the UK and Ireland have better stock
The switch doesn't need to exist , Nintendo have just made a portable Wiiu in fact exactly what people expected the wiiu to be the first time around until realisation the controller wouldn't work away from the console . N could have just made an upgraded wiiu with portable screen , Instead we have a wiiu issue again with N creating what looks like a tablet with none tablet modern day features I mean what the hell Nintendo , Why not just make something with Classic Nintendo Character keep it simple make it affordable if it's only made for games , Many people can't justify the price because we've been here before and in modern times we have cheaper and more reasonable options already on the market . The switch will also damage the 3ds lifespan , We already see a lack of 3ds games and it's now all but dead after this year , what was the point in the new 3ds? No 3rd party devs will work on making games for this console now and surely N won't waste money trying to create big games for 3ds now switch is here . N have made too many excuses for this console , Excuses and bad price model didn't save the vita either .
What I got from all these complaints is that people love to whinge.
So to summarise.
Whinge, whinge, bah humbug, whiney whingey McWhinge a lot.
Seriously, I had 3 360's die on me by the 3rd one MS thought I was ripping them off!
Then I had my account hacked and was $400 out of pocket which took MS 6 weeks to reimburse, and I had to argue with them the whole way through!
From what I've heard Nintendo have been really good with most of these complaints, try Ms support, it is non existent.
Most of these are only minor niggles or annoyances for me.
Apart for the save restrictions; that is a serious rod up the backside. And no cloud saving option will be suffice as I have no intention of paying as I do not play online multiplayer and once the service is shut down many years in the future as new consoles are released; how else will we back this up.
I don't usually say this, but I hope hackers are currently working on solving this issue to allow personal saves on PC, etc.
I'd also love to hear Nintendo's reasoning behind this.
This is basically my biggest gripe with Nintendo, they do these strange and completely mind boggling decisions and then fail to explain just why they are doing it; cos right now the only one I can think of is "we wanted to be different"
@Yorumi You took the words right out of my mouth, no seriously I meant to include most of what you said in my original comment, but I was rushed because I was heading somewhere without internet, but yeah I'm actually about to move out sooner or later, and although she's an adult and in college my sister is not good when it comes to talking care of tech (she's dropped and cracked every phone she's had). She's also the the reason my Wii has no GC controller and card covers, all be accident of course. If I do put adhesive felt or a screen protector on my switch, is for my family and younger cousins accidents , and for my benefit.
Any who I probably won't scratch it anytime soon, but not to be rude unless you are a kid though, most people who bought there own tech take care of it, or at least I do in the first 6 months, but I understand what you mean
Glad to hear the screen scratching is less common than I'd feared. I've been very cautious with mine, but when examining it from the side, it's hard to see how the screen would even touch the inside of the dock. I also haven't experienced the joycon issue, even while (very briefly) trying to replicate it using the GameXplain example.
My only beef with the console so far is that I got a bit of wrist pain from playing it in handheld mode, which was discouraging since I expect this'll be my preferred method of playing over the next few years. I suspect a grip or something could resolve the issue.
Found a stuck pixel on my screen earlier today. It's barely noticeable (I mean, it DID take me four days to even spot it), but it's driving me nuts. I'm way too OCD about stuff like that. I guess I'm just going to have to learn to live with it.
Other than that, I really don't have any major complaints.
Nintendo could just put apps like youtbe and a web browser in the eShop and allow people to download them if they want them.
There's no point forcing the apps onto the OS and taking up memory if others don't want them.
Friend codes are stupid though, it's so much easier to add friends using their gamer tags.
I really don't mind not having a web browser, Netflix, or cloud storage right now. Not a big deal. I've got plenty on Switch to keep me busy and I think we'll get that stuff. I have no hardware gripes though. I love it.
How are the joycons for left handed people?
I said from the beginning that as a kid with an NES we could throw the damn thing against a wall in a rage. Today we will see a lot of adults wide eyed in alarm when a kid gets near this expensive tech. Given the NEStalgia factor for our love of old retro games, will this be absent in future generations who's parents wont let them near it without supervision?
Nintendo bias is strong here, friend codes are an archaic relic from Nintendo's past that needed to go the way of the dodo. Regardless if it's one way it's the only feasible way to add friends right now and I have no idea why you can't add people using their NNID which is also absent from the Switch right now.
Also, the lack of games at launch is appalling no matter how you try to rationalize it. At launch if you're dropping major coin to pick up a system there needed to be more than Zelda and a few overpriced indie titles that have been available on other systems. In addition there's isn't a major first party release that isn't a port coming within the next 3 months which is very concerning on the heels of a console Nintendo constantly forgot to make games for. It's as valid a complaint as any.
...oh, and you forgot the Games taste horrible...Valid!..
I think the web browser absence complaint on the Switch is non-valid. If people don't own already own any smart phone than portable access to the net is not a priority for them.
Left joy-con de-syncing and no wireless bluetooth headphone support are indeed bummers and should be thoroughly addressed (former sooner than the latter).
Battery issue is non-valid. It's using a modern battery and it's pushing games more taxing than the Wii U. Of course it'd be awesome to have a more powerful battery, but at this stage in modern tech it's fine.
As far as the dock scratching.... I can't speak for Switch packaging outside the US but in the US... this is certainly a non-issue. If you're scratching your Switch screen with the dock, you shouldn't own one.
@Yorumi
"Beyond that people could look at the, almost certainly, useless tech in the joycons and say you could have kept the price more reasonable."
And why oh why are we classifying any tech inside the joy-con as "useless"?
Now that I have the system, I would definitely say it needs a web browsers, Youtube, Netflix, Amazon Prime, etc...The system feels great in the hands, and you definitely want to use it for everything possible, as its so nice, you just want to take it out and use it. And show it off!
Nintendo will absolutely need to provide those apps if the Switch is going to become the King of Handhelds. I didn't think it mattered at first, but I was wrong and it does matter. Bring them!
I've been totally happy with my Switch. No issues, no problems, no grievances (other than wanting something other than Shovel Knight to play) but I'm aware things will only get better from here.
I'm surprised so many are bringing up problems with their Switch... Starting to think people don't take care of their shiny new 300+ hybrid console - or they weren't treated very well during their journey from the warehouse.
Side note: Just now checked my Switches battery levels. I haven't charged it since yesterday but have been playing it to and from the office as well as immediately after getting home. Battery's only halfway. The Joycon haven't even lost a percentage. Wow. <3
That's a pretty spot on analysis.
In the end there are some valid complaints, or at least, they are to the unfortunate few affected or who care.
The biggest issues would be Joycons and bad screen, but the pixels haven't actually been a problem, just a potential worry if you hypothetically got a dud. If your system works fine, as mine does, its mostly minor gripes. I will say the save data is a legit complaint, but I'm just happy I won't lose my games now. And Nintendo will surely implement cloud saves or else no one will upgrade to future revisions.
Browser, Netflix and that list of fair and kidding me complaints are back of the burner stuff.
Good summary, but I think one of the internet's main complaints is missing: Got grounded for calling my mom a bad name when she wouldn't buy me EVERYthing & can't actually play my Switch.
@rotorooter
Ditto. I haven't had any pixels die, no scratching, my joy cons work fine. But this console will not connect to wifi for anything. It usually takes several tries, and when it works takes minutes to connect. Mind you both laptops, my phone, my tv, my Roku, and my PS4 never had any issues. I assumed it was just me. It took me 2 day a to register my games to actually get points lol
On the positive, I actually like the Joycon straps way more than the Wiimote straps, for me they're much easier to take on/off, I've played Zelda and 1 2 Switch, at least 6 hours by now and haven't had a single joy con disconnect.
As far as dead pixels, the first Wii I bought had a few and Nintendo convienently had an official shop to fix it in LA 5 miles from me, so I dropped it off and got it back the very same day. So that happens, even with the Wii. And when I took it in, the repair guy said, for the Wii, that this was common. At the time, he recommended I never put the Wii to sleep, rather than fully turning it off, as that was what he though caused the dead pixels. No idea if that's true or not.
For the screen, not scratching, which hasn't happened to me, but I'm not taking any chances, Amazon has a seller selling glass covers for it and it gets nearly 5 star ratings with quite a few reviews, and its specifically made for the Switch. Check it out:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N3ASPNV/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Maybe it is just with some Switch consoles, but I haven't had any issues with my Joy-Con at least 2 metres from the dock. I've also tested covering it up and putting it behind my back.
The Switch does seem a bit lacking right now, but maybe that's because I don't have Zelda yet.
@uncha1n3d Not a problem. If you hold down the power button in docked mode, or handheld, some power options will come up allowing you to turn it off.
@Sinton
What if you travel internationally and don't want to bring your phone through US customs, which now can legally pull you aside and download all your data? You either need to reformat your phone to a blank slate and log back in at your destination, or good old Uncle Sam is downloading your life onto its computer.
Having the Switch fully equipped with apps would be desirable for many. Yes, I have a tablet too, but the less crap I need to cary, the better.
@yokokazuo I had the switch dock behind my TV because my tv stand is barely big enough for my TV, and I wanted the full experience viewing zelda. I sat yeah probably about 2m away and had a bit of interference. When I moved the dock in front of my TV, no problem though.
@roadrunner343
Very true statement, they have by far the best customer service. I'm sorry to hear about your joy con disconnect issue and you're totally right that Nintendo needs to fix it, ASAP. What a bummer!
@Yorumi "What exactly do you get out of attacking people for bringing these things up?"
What exactly do YOU get out of spreading your hyperbolic negativity everywhere? See how fun these loaded questions are?
I'm not attacking you, sweetie, I'm just responding to posts in an open discussion. If you speak your mind, you open yourself up to criticism.
@Sinton "And I don't understand the need for media apps and web browser. Never used them on any of my other game consoles."
That's a bit like if I said "I don't understand the need for eye glasses. I've never used them". Personally, I don't understand why the fact that you personally haven't watched movies on a console would make it difficult for you to understand why other people do. If you'd like to watch Netflix or Amazon Prime on your TV, and don't already own a smart TV or other streaming device with that functionality built in, it makes perfect sense to use your console for that since it's already hooked up to your TV. For people who currently use their Wii U that way and would like to replace their Wii U with a Switch, I can understand why they'd be disappointed that they can't currently do so.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE yeah but the red ring of death was the worst
@VR32F1END make us buy it again
20mb image hosting
@coolaggro ah, I guess it may be if the Switch is covered then. Mine is in front of the TV so that could explain why I didn't have any issues
@8itmap_k1d
You aren't , not a thing here has happened born bothered me, knock on wood. I avoid 95% of launches for god reason. There will Ben bugs, there will be defaults. I'm lucky as nothing's has happened to me. Cost of early adopting I guess. I have never got a launch system until the Switch, because I want to let others have the problems. As long as Big N makes good on defects, that said as goodness as things get.
I will acknowledge the validity of a lot of the concerns for people. I'm not sure about the browser, seeing as the browser on my PS4 is god awful, but I guess it's easier to sell a tablet to the masses with a browser and Netflix than I thought I should with a game of the ages 😒.
My left joy con became unresponsive on multiple occasions and I'm about four/five feet away from the docked console. It disconnected completely once but I may have obstructed the joy con on that occasion, I can't be certain. I played today in table top mode and the joy com seemed to work fine but I was only a foot away at the most.
I've not had any other issues.
@crackafreeze is it also 1986 in your world?
@Yorumi
"Most of it is going to be used in gimmick games or will have to be forced on players to make them use it." When you have to force something it's a bad idea." = Baseless speculation.
Neither you nor I know what games Nintendo is developing that will take advantage of this new tech. Not every game will utilize this tech so if you choose not to buy into it, that remains your choice. Noone is forcing anything.
"That doesn't mean they need to go with a controller with only buttons but really do you think the camera on the joycons is ever going to be used in a non-gimmick way?"
You and I do not work at Nintendo so again = baseless speculation. This is new tech never seen or experienced before in a game controller. So you should avoid using finite reasoning to predict the usage of something which could have infinite possibilities.
@yuwarite
Hm...Nintendo did something wrong, journalist reported about that. But when Sony did wrong too, journalist pretended nothing wrong happened. Sabotage much ?
@tgru
Hm... maybe if there is no front cover for Switch docker, we will not see Switch logo in the front.
@ThatNyteDaez
May I ask about your Switch ?
I'm afraid if I got Death Blue / Orange screen. How could that happened ? Have you update your Switch and found no problem at all ?
There are NO game for the switch launch that INTERESTS me.... so yeah... NO KIDDING... IM NOT A ZELDA FAN.... THE NEW MARIO LOOKS DREADFUL... It's filled with indie games or games I already own on steam.... and the fact that NO SWITCH MONSTER HUNTER/POKEMON/FANTASY LIFE GAME CONFIRMED.... so... again... yeah... no switch for me... I'm happy gaming with my 3ds, xbox and PC... dude... u gotta accept that IM NOT KIDDING YOU... seriously It has no games...
The fact there are so many comments online speaks volumes for switch. This little powerhouse of awesomeness is going to sell extremely well. When people read negative reviews and then pick one up and realise its actually not bad but very good, they just might buy it.
All publicity is good publicity. I for one LOVE my switch! I have not been this excited about a console since i got my mega cd for my megadrive back in 1996. Except maybe the nes mini last year of course lol.
@Yorumi
Ok, Wii U was a failure. The Gamepad sometimes provided minor but useful gameplay conveniences but it was not a game changer. The Wii remote = was a game changer.
Dude, you and I have argued about motion controls before so you should know my response. #1. Regarding motion controls - 100 million Wii consumers would disagree with you. How are you going to classify Nintendo's most successful home console as a failure?
Motion controls didn't improve anything? I exclusively play Mario kart with motion controls. I prefer Metroid Prime and Punch-Out with a nunchuck-remote setup. WarioWare Smooth Moves is my favorite all time Wario ware game and I wish Breath of the Wild feature 1:1 sword control (despite the fact the game is a master piece). Resident Evil 4 on the Wii is its definitive version and I think the world would be a better place is all 1st/3rd person shooters had a motion controlled gyro option. And I'm sure I'm not alone.
So please, I know you hate motion controls (and that's fine) but stop acting like nobody else likes or even prefers them in some instances or in some game genres.
@crackafreeze Almost everything on this list is relevant even if you only intend to use the Switch for gaming. Only the first two items — no browser and no streaming video apps — could be considered non-gaming related. I'm not saying all the problems listed here are real, just that if they were real they could matter for gaming-only users of the Switch.
@Yorumi my 4yr old and 2 yr old love 1 2 switch. Not all games are intended for whinging young adults... with severe cases of first world-problemitis.
My kids constantly use our wii u for netflix and shantae, 12 switch niw has them begging me to play switchy again especially the gorilla game!
@subpopz well said friend!
A controller not working is not a "relatively small issue," NL pls
I think it was an okay launch overall. Some of these issues aren't that different from other launches.
Lack of apps is going to hit them hard if they don't fix it soon, though. That second wave is going to be people buying it for games as well as secondary features. So here's hoping they'll at least get a browser, Netflix, and Youtube bare minimum up by the Spring.
@UK-Nintendo The worst part is that they didn't even add Super Mario World to it. I know that original version of Super Mario All Stars is a bit more well known, but the should've at least re-released the version that had included Super Mario World.
@TreasureFan we did get it later on the Super Nintendo in uk. For the Wii version I think they should of at least gave it super mario land and super Mario land 2
@Yorumi taylor swift applies here. Trolls are gonna troll troll troll troll troll...
@BiasedSonyFan
Lol, what a funny comment 😂
@Yorumi Definitely check, that might be the difference between "zomg scratches!" and not. I get scuffs from the silicone bumpers that rub right off, right where the scratches supposedly occur. (Also the scratches are not over the screen, they're on the border, so it's a cosmetic thing, but I wouldn't want it to happen to mine either! IMO with where the bumpers are you'd have to insert it pretty recklessly too cause trouble. You'd have to scrape the screen at the upper half of the dock, and you'd have to miss the center by a good bit. I'd like to have seen it felt or rubber coated entirely on the inside, I agree, though then that might make it grippy and you'd live the dock off the table when one-handing the switch. It slips in and out so easily as-is... So agreed, more padding is always better. But they did seem to consider the issue with the pads. I'm curious why some docks seem not to have them.... defect, or the change was made mid-production run?
@RatKing64
So true, it hurts.
@Turbo857 Motion controls in games are fine, (As long as there done right), however the Wii's success was a bit of glass cannon in terms of replayability for most. The reason for that is because of it's pioneering motion controls attracted a curious wider casual audience leading to high sales for it, but most of those customers were like a said 'casuals', who would go out and buy it and play Wii Sports with their family and friends, then never touch the thing ever again. The people I knew who regularly played it were Nintendo fans, but everyone else that I knew who had it, just kind of let it sit there and collect dust. Games like WarioWare: Smooth Moves, Sin & punishment: Star Successor, and Rhythm Heaven Fever were great motion controls game, however the majority who bought the Wii never really cared much about it after they got it, especially with the advent of smartphones.
@Yorumi
"You're not bothering to read what I said. You seem to have entirely missed what I said about the gyro being superior to pointer controls"
Uh no... I actually agree with that statement so I didn't feel the need to comment on a point I agree with. However, gyro and motion controls are synonymous which is distorting your argument a bit.
"The sales of the wii are entirely irrelevant, especially in the face of the wiiU which had all those things and people didn't touch it."
The Switch is a true evolution of the Wii and Wii U. The Wii U had a lot more problems with its design that wasn't a factor with the Wii. One of those was not including a nunchuck/Remote out the box.
"Furthermore you make a projection fallacy assuming because you like something one way everyone does. = oh man, false and hypocritical.
In my defense of motion controls, I usually acknowledge they are not everyone's cup of tea. I assume that because I like them = "some" people do as well. Your stance against motion controls includes the assumption that "nobody" likes them. You should try reading your statements before posting.
"If motion controls were such a game changer why are they being dropped like a hot potato?" = bias. There's this thing called VR gaming and... many of these devices feature motion controlled games and accessories. There's also a game called ARMS that looks like it's very motion control heavy too ☝🏽 MARIO Kart 8, Fast RMx feature motion. Sooooo, who's dropping what now?
"Well other than a gyro they basically died with the wii."
I'm not gonna defend "waggle" since its implementation was mostly used as a substitute for the Wii remotes lack of buttons.
@TreasureFan
I hear ya and agree = Motion controls are fine when done right (I do not deny that there have been duds). I remember Sin and Punishment for the Wii (loved it; and would never play a motion controlless sequel). But I couldn't care less about the smartphone gaming preferences of "casual" gamers. I'm an inclusive "sophisticated" gamer with broad tastes. My main point has always been = there is nothing wrong with a company including motion control tech in their controllers since "some" gamers do in fact like and prefer them. If some people think this tech unnecessarily bloats the price of Switch controllers... save your money and stick with playing the 3DS. That's all
I've been able to charge my switch and use tabletop mode at the same time without spending money on a third=party stand. I just use my old Kid Icarus: Uprising stand. It's a first-party stand, and it has an indent where the charger would go, due to it being in the centre, like the headphones port on the 3DS.
@uncha1n3d if you hold down the power button for 4+ seconds a menu screen appears, select power options and shut down. Works both handheld and docked.
@BiasedSonyFan
Nicely put. Couldn't have said that better myself 👍🏽
@yuwarite "It's OK when Sony does it."
@Priceless_Spork The Joy-Cons are fine for me, and I'm left handed.
@Locke159 Gee, really? What did you expect with a portable?
@Turbo857 @BiasedSonyFan I understand that, but I wasn't talking about the Switch. I was talking about the Wii's sales and how Turbo857 stating "100 million Wii consumers would disagree with you." which is a bit of an hyperbole since the majority of wii purchasers never really played it again. The reason why I brought up casuals is because they were the largest group who bought it and made it look like it was a fad, that's why there's this stigma against motion controls. People would rather boast about it rather then actually play it and as soon as they got bored of it, they didn't bother with it. What's even worse is that Microsoft and Sony jumped on with their own 'motion control' products that didn't even work half the time, because all they really saw was just fad to make a quick buck, which worsened the stigma. You understand what i'm trying to say now?
@NEStalgia @Ryu_Niiyama
So close....
@Equinox It's also a tablet, try to imagine a tablet without a browser.
@Nintendoer Oh well close it down folks, Nintendoer isn't having any trouble with the Joy-Cons. The complaints from others are clearly false.
@WiltonRoots this is seriously one of the best things I've seen here. Bravo!
Didnt read anything apart the header cause..no..so, yea, heres my header...taken from chernobyll: "all good, i can still breath...i see lots of weird dressed people around me checking stuff...they dont let me "in" with other people"...actually, i still have hopes, oh i do (i just see zero native support for nintendo..from developing companies)...but no, throw away that student project u call ur switch homeconsole and wait for the update
Anyway, dont worry...they will compensate early adopters...same hardcores who have already everything will get the permission to have the same ....well, more or less....wait 4 weeks max
@gortsi I might get lucky in the next half hour or so, bingo definitely makes the comment sections more interesting. This article was pretty much guaranteed to yield results.
@WiltonRoots I can recommend some other sites where you could cross each section out within 5 minutes: IGN, Neogaf, Eurogamer, just for starters
@Sinton
It's basically a YOU don't use it, but MANY OTHER people probably do situation.
If you don't understand the need for it, then that's just fine. Doesn't make those features unnecessary though.
@gortsi Too true, although there's certainly a contingent trying to drag it down to that level in here...
@BiasedSonyFan The Wii was a success and Nintendo did make a lot of money from it, but those 85 million users didn't come back for the Wii U, because they thought it was just another gimmick. A lot of them would rather play on a touch pad on a iphone then on a Wii U gamepad. Nintendo's doing very well in marketing the Switch to a broad audience and sales for it have been great. But it was the mainstream casual audience that touted Nintendo as a gimmick machine maker, that's why a lot of people didn't take the Wii U seriously, because of that.
@WiltonRoots the problem is that I think the group is expanding. Oh well, you can always make bigger bingo cards
As far as power is concerned, the Switch is still a high-powered HD console with friendly architechure that's compatible with all modern gaming engines, so 3rd parties don't have the same excuses for avoiding Nintendo ports as they did in the previous two generations. They'll still have to tweak their games somewhat to deal with the Switch's lesser overall power, but it should be possible for third parties to make quality Nintendo ports of just about any games made for the other modern consoles, something that hasn't been true since the GameCube.
@Rontanamo_Bay I'm no little kid, and I don't have a smartphone. I've never seen the point in needing one. I have a regular flip phone to make phone calls. I don't care about having a good camera, and if I change my mind, I'll just get a regular digital camera. Mobile games are in general very inferior to the games on my 3DS (and "Pokémon Go" and "Pokémon Duel" aren't enough to change my mind), which also serves as a decent portable web browser. Although, I guess that kind of defeats the point of needing the Switch as a portable web browser.
I personally love being able to use my Wii U to watch Hulu Plus and Crunchyroll on my TV (which doesn't have those options itself). Then again, I guess I personally don't need a Switch to do the same thing; but it would be a nice option for those without a Wii U, don't have a TV that already has those services built in, and don't want to mess with hooking up a laptop to their TV all the time. It may not be a significant chunk of the userbase, but more options is almost never a bad thing.
I don't understand the argument 'it's ok for Switch not to have mutimedia apps or a browser since every other device does'.
Well, what if every device maker thought that way? This argument seems like it should fit into a fallacy.
"It Should Have a Web Browser -(Valid/Fair-ish) Could be useful, but not necessarily essential to the Switch's role as a dedicated gaming device.
"It Should Have Media Apps Like Netflix, Amazon Prime etc - (Fair-ish) They're great apps that would add to Switch's overall entertainment value, but nonetheless not essential to the Switch's role as a dedicated gaming device.
"Locking Save Data to Hardware is Dumb - (Valid) Thomas covered this quite well.
"The Joy-Con Wrist-Straps Are Tough / Annoying to Put On - (Fair-ish) Taking the JoyCon straps on and off like a pro takes a little practice. I've mastered this already. It's all a matter of matching the right strap to each JoyCon, and holding the JoyCon and strap firmly while attaching or detaching the strap.
It's Too Easy to Scratch the Screen - (Fair-ish/ Are You Kidding Me?!) Thomas covered this quite well.
"Friend Codes Are Back Arghghdghhgghghghgh - (🤔) I don't have a lot of friends, so... Don't ask me.
"There Are No Games - (Fair-ish/Are You Kidding Me?!) Look, I'm not going to pretend that it's wrong to wish that there were more AAA titles available, but there is a decent serving of quality Indies, and Zelda, the crown jewel, will probably go on to be one of the greatest games to be released this year.
"The Nintendo Switch is an Underpowered Wii U Wannabe - (Yawn 😪) Let them have their stationary devices, in the meantime, we'll just enjoy our "underpowered" Switch consoles anywhere we want. And, why would Nintendo want to make another Wiiu, are these gamers even thinking before they speak?
Good one, Thomas. Sometimes it can be important to get these kinds of things out in the open. Just be careful not to overblow the story and inflate the issue.
@CircuitWrangler3 'we'll just enjoy our "underpowered" Switch consoles anywhere we want.' For about 3 hours or less if you have to turn the brightness up to compensate for playing outside.
'And, why would Nintendo want to make another Wiiu, are these gamers even thinking before they speak?' Who was asking for another Wii U? I suspect people expected Nintendo to support it more. Rest assured though, if the Switch under performs they will drop support of it too. Switch is launching featureless and people are defending that but if those feature don't come soon, people will stop defending and start complaining. A featureless game console hasn't been acceptable in 15 years. The way the Switch is right now, with it's lack of features and it's technical problems, the Wii U looks more attractive than ever.
@BiasedSonyFan No I have not read the blind gamer article, but i'm not labeling motion controls as a gimmick, it's just some people call it that. If you're trying to paint me as someone who's anti-motion control, then just stop right now, I like the Wii and the Wii U, but it doesn't mean there not subjected by the public as gimmicks. And why you are asking me to figure the irony of something that we weren't even talking about in the first place. I already know PS4 pro is a stupid idea, but asking me to figure out the irony behind it just makes you sound like some pretentious jerk. I'm just saying that the majority of Wii owners didn't buy a Wii U because of the success of smartphones in the casual market, which is a factor why it didn't do so well.
There is a serious lack of games. That is an indisputable fact. The Switch has only one AAA title available right now and that should not be acceptable.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE must have been written by you! Oh ho ho ho.
I don't get the dock scratching thing though. There are raised edges either side of the inside of the dock, on the screen side. The only part of the screen that rubs against the dock are the black edges around the screen, not the bit you look at to play games. While it would still be annoying to get slide marks from pulling it in and out, it's not so much of an issue if you're careful.
@NEStalgia while what you say is true.. they may have publicly denied it (probably to calm the masses) but they treated me very good and they replaced my regular console with a premium one and sent me a new controller with a postage paid return box for my defective one. Like you said RROD ended up being a huge issue. yeah my console was a launch one and it died on day one. So I know how it feels for the Switch people affected now.
Honestly, I'm surprised that the Switch's apparent abysmal wifi connection wasn't one of the complaints listed. I guess it isn't as widespread as I thought it was, but I and a quite a few others have been having problems with this.
When I want to connect to the internet, I have to more or less sit right next to the router to be able to get full wifi strength and to connect — and I know that it isn't my router, because other people have expressed similar issues to mine, and even my original model 3DS has a far superior connection. It's incredibly disappointing when an older device has a better, and faster, connection than the latest console.
And even when I do sit right next to the router, the majority of the time, the console is unable to connect to the server due it apparently being too busy. I'm not able to download the BotW update because, even when I do manage to connect, it shortly cuts out anyway. I'm sure it's probably just traffic and will die down eventually, but it is a bit disconcerting, especially seeing as there are a number of future games that will be exclusive to the eShop that I would like to get.
But either way, the fact that I have to sit right next to the router sucks the joy out of online games for me.
I'm starting to feel like a crazy person for being someone who has no complaints about the Switch at all.
@WiltonRoots Gah, we've got too more but in all the wrong places.
We do need another row considering we're moving beyond whiners and into core bating trolls GameFaq's style. We need Bingo needs a mega-evolution!
@LeRaposa That's not the problem on its own. The problem is that issue in combination with the fact that there's no backwards compatability or Virtual Console to tide us over until we get more games. When the Wii launched, I had GameCube games to go along with "Wii Sports" and "DBZ: Budokai Tenkaichi 2," while others tried out the very first Virtual Console releases. When the 3DS launched, I had DS games and some built-in minigames to go along with "Super Street Fighter IV: 3D Edition." I didn't get a Wii U at launch, but those who did could play Wii games (including their entire Virtual Console and WiiWare collections) in addition to "Nintendo Land" and whatever else there was back then.
The Switch has none of that or even any multimedia options right now. On top of that, at least three of the biggest releases it does have (Zelda, Setsuna, and Shovel Knight) aren't exclusive to the Switch.
I do want to say I've played my Switch probably at least 25-30 hours since launch (BotW has me hooked) in all the control styles and not once has either joy-con (ahem, including left one) disconnected. I want to say some people have either a defective Switch or defective joy-cons... which happens with launch units, heck at least it's not a RROD or any other bricking issue, I mean it sounds annoying but I suppose that's a risk of buying a console at launch (and I was well aware of that risk). Though yes, the launch has been a bit rocky, I mean I'm satisfied but I'd prefer a couple more choices in games, like MK8 Deluxe or a few more eShop choices, but I just gotta be patient. Like really, my only gripe is the lack of much for multiplayer choices, I got Bomberman but other than that, 1 2 Switch looks interesting but overpriced (and quite casual, plus it's only local multiplayer), if I wanted Just Dance I'd already have it on my PS4... but hey, it's not like I'm tired of Zelda at this point and I've yet to touch Bomberman so I shouldn't complain there!
So...to sum up the article: "There are a lot of huge complaints about the Switch, and we agree with them all, save for a few small exceptions."
@ThomasBW84: Great article, your analysis is spot on!
I've been very vocal about the browser and apps and really hope they'll be added later.
But one really important thing I never seriously thought about are bluetooth headphones!
I've been using them for about a decade, I use them with my PC and my Smartphone - and also with my Wii U. But I either had to use a BT audio transmitter or use an external audio card with my PC to grab the audio from my Wii U and use my PC's BT (that's what I'm doing).
I never thought Nintendo would actually do it, but if there's a chance, it's right up there with the browser for me!
Wireless headphones are just so much more convenient!
With these three little additions Nintendo could turn the Switch into something potentially amazing. I would instantly buy it.
If it'd become a serious alternative as tablet, more people might buy it because they need a tablet and would take the possibility of gaming on top of that.
I uh don't get it ... Don't need a web browser for a start or apps and all that crap, i've had no probs with it, the games are beyond amazing, you can't scratch the screen unless your that dim... So yeah lol
@NintyNate Which games are amazing?
"...as tough as The Thing's backside."
Thanks NL, I needed the laugh. XD I agree about the stances in the article, specifically the "It has no games" complaint. Most consoles don't have a huge library at launch, but when you consider download offerings it isn't bad at all.
@jaymacx Ahh yours failed early on, so you were still under warranty. They honored warranties. What happened though was a lot of the units failed after the warranty expired, and a lot of units that were replaced under warranty failed again after the new (shorter because it was a replacement) warranty expired. That's when the mayhem began and they started denying problems and denying out of warranty claims despite the signs that they knew there was a problem that should have been a full recall.
Phil Spencer has been doing a good job with XBox so the dislike for them probably doesn't apply to the company under his watch, but it's hard to forget where they came from with one of the worst service issues in the industry, ever.
Nintendo has a pretty good track record of service. Dog-slow service, yes, but they're generally pretty willing to repair issues. I've heard Sony service is awful, but I've never had any particular experience or anecdotes of them so it could just be internet complainers.
@Crono1973 "we'll just enjoy our "underpowered" Switch consoles anywhere we want.' For about 3 hours or less if you have to turn the brightness up to compensate for playing outside."
3 hours is far better than having to leave your games at home. And to be honest, I can't imagine playing a 3+ hour session outdoors, even at a park.
"Who was asking for another Wii U? I suspect people expected Nintendo to support it more."
I never said anyone asked for another Wiiu, I was referring to gamers' expectations. Some of these critics seem to be proud of the notion that Nintendo would rebuild a failed concept. And Nintendo involved developers early with the Switch. They've prepared a lineup of monthly releases. And now that it has launched, I'm seeing a commercial nearly every hour. And then there was the Superbowl thing. Those people who are questioning Nintendo's support of the Switch are being unreasonable and ungrateful, if not blind.
"Rest assured though, if the Switch under performs they will drop support of it too."
It's kind of early to be discussing the possibility of that.
"Switch is launching featureless and people are defending that but if those feature don't come soon, people will stop defending and start complaining. A featureless game console hasn't been acceptable in 15 years."
I am yet to see someone defend the Switch's early issues, and when I say issues, I mean valid issues. And, the Switch is launching with tons of hardware features, it's software presentation seems to be in a beta state nonetheless. But you and I both know that that will be fixed in time. And you have to understand that many of the problems being discussed are what comes with new hardware, when that new hardware has a learning curve.
"The way the Switch is right now, with it's lack of features and it's technical problems, the Wii U looks more attractive than ever."
You know you're talking to someone who owns a Switch, right? And you know what? I've seen people trade in their Wiiu's for the Switch. Some even traded in other consoles. Personally, I loved the Wiiu, but...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cb-srOfRqNc
@subpopz You sir, are wise.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE it's a glass half / full conversation, like most things,.
@kobashi100 it's easy to scratch a 400k super car too....
The Switch doesn't make pizza or bring beer. Geez, what a ridiculous list of complaints. The only valid ones are joy-joy-con signal and scratching. Everything else is part of design standard and release parameters we already knew. Personally, I have zero complaints!
@WiltonRoots @Ryu_Niyama Ohh, wait I see the problem. You're still using the NL Blue Bingo cards. The NL Red Bingo DLC came out last week. Be sure to grab that, as you're missing "Left Joycon!", "Backward Compatibility", "Scratches", "Tablet", and "No Game Included(TM)"
@CircuitWrangler3 ‘3 hours is far better than having to leave your games at home. And to be honest, I can't imagine playing a 3+ hour session outdoors, even at a park.’ – So on the one hand you are bragging about being able to play your Switch anywhere and on the other you are saying that you can’t imagine playing it very long outside.
‘It's kind of early to be discussing the possibility of that.’ – No see, if you abandon consoles instead of building them up (the way Nintendo did with the 3DS) then you get a reputation. The best time to talk about that is BEFORE you buy a new Nintendo console.
‘I am yet to see someone defend the Switch's early issues, and when I say issues, I mean valid issues.’ - This thread is full of people defending the lack of features. Where’s Miiverse? Virtual Console? Internet Browser? Multimedia Apps? Backward Compatibility? In this regard, the Switch is a downgrade as Wii U has all of these things. Go ahead and defend it though. Did you know that the people playing Zelda on the Wii U aren’t having controller connectivity issues?
‘And you have to understand that many of the problems being discussed are what comes with new hardware, when that new hardware has a learning curve.’ – Here’s the problem, you are defending unfinished console launches and that is why we have them. What if the Gamecube launched without a way to transfer saves between memory cards? You may say that they can patch it in and I will say, this is just you defending and encouraging a negative trend.
‘I've seen people trade in their Wiiu's for the Switch.’ – That people were hyped proves nothing.
@3MonthBeef Wait so you are saying that no one can sustain play for more than 3 hours undocked, that the limits lie within the person, not the Switch? What kind of a world do you live in? I use my 3DS and my Gamepad for more than 3 hours at a time, often. I did put the high capacity battery in my Gamepad though because I waned it to last longer. I shouldn't have though since no one can sustain 3+ hours of undocked play, LOL.
@Oat Wow, that video is crazy. I don't remember so many problems in past Nintendo hardware launches. It seems pretty clear that Nintendo went cheap with quality control. I would advise anyone buying one of these to buy it from a store with a friendly return policy.
I think the left Joycon "issue" is a load of bollocks really. Mine works accurately even when covered from several meters away held away from the system and behind my back.
I don't see how anyone should accept the assertion that it's a problem across all the hardware, it only takes 1 to disprove it.
Same with the dock scratching the screen. One person posts an image and it's apparently an inevitability that they'll all scratch? Nah, they might scratch in some circumstances but it doesn't mean they all will. the Internet does a good job at acting like singular events are the norm.
@Dr_Lugae I have never been in an auto accident and therefore I refuse to believe they exist. It's a hoax and all those videos on YouTube that show auto accidents are faked. /s
@Crono1973 Ok. But you realise I'm saying I'm denying the assertion that these issues apply to all systems?
If someone drove the same model of car of me and the wing mirror fell off and started saying it must be a problem with all of that same car and that the wing mirrors WILL fall off whenever you drive it. If I drive the car and the wing mirrors don't fall off and are still firmly connected to the car...I'm not going to think that assertation is correct.
If my Left Joycon has proper functionality in the scenarios that people say it shouldn't...then how exactly is it a inherent hardware issue? It isn't, it's most likely down to other factors. I think it's ridiculous that the idea its affecting all units is still going around because it isn't the case.
@Dr_Lugae I believe the left joy con issue is a design flaw, the positioning of the bluetooth antenna is the problem and the environment in which the controller is used determines if you have problems with it. In an environment with lots of electronic devices, there will be problems. Here is a video on someone who took it apart to find the problem:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=unZABUO5w60&t=0s
Here is the fix: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZnMnke6lF0c&t=0s
@UK-Nintendo Lol! Well, theres a cartridge I have with World on it as well, and thats what I would've hoped for! You have to admit, even if it was regular Virtual Console, it'd be great to have on Switch right away. No, regular All-Stars? No more than $15 or $20. Its a bargain Wii disc now. Lol
Seriously what negative writing from a Nintendo fan site. I have had so much fun with my switch I hadn't had time to notice all these bad points.
Thanks for pointing them out NL.
i asked a certain hipster in the live chat for the switch launch if the memory cards were hot swappable, and he said yes. i tried it and no, they aren't. the system turns off when you remove the memory card.
the joycons slide in and out just fine on the switch, and the grip, but not with the straps. they have no positive reassuring click with the straps, and it feels like they're being broken as it requires force to get them out.
i think the first problem ca be fixed with some system software witchcraft. the second one, lube is not recommended as that gunks up over time.
@Locke159 The Switch is around 4kg's less powwrful!
@3MonthBeef
Are you suggesting nobody can sustain more than 3 hours play? Because I can prove you wrong on that one.
I've remembered another stupid flaw the article missed. The lack of a headphone socket in the Pro Controller. Allied with the lack of Bluetooth support its a really obvious thing to have overlooked.
@VR32F1END true. Would be great but being Nintendo I don't think it'll happen
@dew12333
Yeah, they should stick their fingers in their ears and go 'lalalala we're not listening, nobody is having any problems ever lalalala'.
More of a list of problems than games speaks for itself really.....
Nice to see NL go into the problems, an article really was needed to reflect the issues. Another one would be good to go into the actual system failures and establish an idea how many units might me affected.
The biggest disappointment for me over this saga has been the reactions of members of this community, I've used NL for years and healthy debates are a great part of sharing similar views( and different ones). We have been through allot of ups and downs over the Wii u era 😉
Some people on here are actually bullying the people with different views right now, if you don't like the switch (an opinion shared by a few posters) then you must be a fool and a hater and nobody should respect you.....This is simply a horrible childish stance to take and ruins the enjoyment of this site for me. I'm not sure if I will consider myself a regular in future. We wouldn't use this site unless we all liked Nintendo, not everyone will like the same games and systems but we should show a little respect when others have different views. I personally don't like the switch, not yet, it doesn't have the games I want to play and I don't need a portable. The problems I have seen have put me off the reliability of the hardware unless proven stable after launch. I have concerns personal to me and my taste. I sell smart devices for a living so maybe that puts me into a demanding niche but the hardware has yet to win me over. It will I'm sure, but more games and a colour I prefer may be needed to pull me in.
Please don't read anyone's (including mine) comment and think less of them and their views, all opinions are valid to a degree, and PLEASE DON'T PICK ON INDIVIDUAL VIEWS BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT THE SAME AS YOUR OWN. Even if you feel they are negative 😉😁
Unfortunately, there are too many "valid" criticisms that need fixed before I'd consider buying one.
@electrolite77
I had fun and didn't have my fingers in my ears and wasn't making any lalalala sounds and still hadn't noticed any of these things mentioned. Still disappointed that they were pointed out to me by a fan site.
@dew12333
It sounds like that's what you want this site to do. Why are you disappointed? Other fans are having these problems which makes it very relevant to a fan site.
I doubt that they'll fix the problems right away so I'm going to refrain from buying one until they do.
I did a similar response to Switch criticism on Twitter under #SwitchHatersFAQ
@electrolite77
Yeah in some way yes I do. Three of the six featured articles are negative, one says that a competitors product is better. And this particular one reiterates negatives which they have had an individual news feature already. In my opinion the negative reporting is excessive and unfair, something I have commented before.
I think a fansite should be backing what it believes in and not fuelling negativity, if it is a struggle to find nice things to write then maybe someone is in the wrong job., so I don't feel unjust in expecting this to be the last place to find this information.
This article is all kinds of stupid. It's also incredibly dismissive and glaringly condescending about major issues.
The lack of Netflix/browser isn't 'just' and issue for those who don't have other devices, it's an issue for EVERYONE as you're paying a premium price for a product that is MISSING basic industry features.
The left joy-con issues are not 'fair-ish'. It is on-par with the RROD and yellow-light problems of past systems. If Nintendo is selling a console that doesn't work as advertised, not only is it illegal but it's also a HUGE issue that they need to adress (just like MS and Sony did) rather than suggesting that consumers chuck away their fish tank and turn off all other devices.
The dead-pixel problem is also a huge issue and if you have one and it's affecting your enjoyment of the console you are entitled to a refund/repair/replacement. Make sure you push this; consumer law is on your side and for NL and certain commentors to dismiss this is naive.
I know this is a Nintendo fan-site and I'm a Nintendo fan too, but some of the misteps Nintendo has made are just gross, especially after the excellent initial reveal. People need to be more objective and demand more for your hard-earned cash.
Totally agree about the save files, I should be able to back those up anywhere. Browser and streaming apps is something other companies need to address, my NS is for gaming.
the rest sounds like consoles with defects, which all electronics suffer from. But the scariest thing a gamer will ever have to do is call customer support, they'd rather cry about it through youtube videos.
@dew12333
But all these issues are real. People are experiencing faults with the hardware or lamenting missing features. The Switch game does compare badly to the PS4 version. They're facts. It isn't this websites job to filter out bad news like some propaganda outlet for Nintendo or to protect the sensibilities of those who can't accept reality. They have their own website for that and if all you want is denial and cheerleading I recommend it to you.
@Mogster Agree with a lot of that, but you can't really say lack of Browser/Netflix is a 'problem' for everyone, because it isn't. It's down to whether you even want those in features in the first place, and I don't, personally. I'd rather keep my Switch streamlined with as few 'filler' apps as possible. If they do introduce these kinds of apps then fine, but I hope it's an optional download at least, rather than baked into the OS. Certainly not bothered about a web browser when I have my phone right next to me at all times.
@dew12333
reporting what is happening regarding a hardware launch= news
Reporting only what you want people to hear by filtering out information= propaganda.
A sports fan site will still admit when a team play badly, a stocks and shares site will report upwards and negative trends and a music site will report empty seats as well as sold out shows. Why would a Nintendo fan site NOT report what is happening to Nintendo fans/hardware?? I don't get why you would expect only good news when the facts reveal a mixed amount of good and bad news?
@Agent721 Sounds like you need a tin foil hat more than media apps on the Switch ...
@bilboa I wonder how many people, with Netflix and/or Amazon Prime subscription, own a $300 Nintendo Switch, but don't own a smart TV or any other dedicated streaming device ...
@AVahne Yeah, that's what I said: "I" don't understand. All is fine, then.
@Yorumi That happened with my WiiU. I called and it boils down to resetting the router. Unplug it for 30 seconds. I haven't had that issue on my switch but that is what happened on my WiiU . A repeater for $50 dollars could also take care of this problem.
Q: Are the controllers comfortable in portable mode (when joy-cons are attached)? That layout looks awkward to me but I've only seen one complaint so far...
I don't have any of these problems except the save files and that is just a complaint. I have been to busy. I have been only playing in portable mode so none of this has bothered me. When I finally get my ultra retro mid century TV stand . I will put it in the dock and hook it up to my TV. For now I just cannot be bothered untangling my Direct TV, PS3, PS4, Blueray, Wii, WIiU, Apple TV . There is a huge wad of cords back there. I'm just besides myself. It is not very off efficient.
@ULTRA-64 great comment. Totally agree.
I haven't bought one yet but will do end of the year
We've come to a point where we no longer know whether a supposed "defect" is actually widespread or limited to certain units. The moment something goes wrong, it's slapped all over the internet and anger ensues. I'm not saying there isn't potentially a defect, but it's come to the point I can no longer tell. Reminds me of when I got my first GameCube. It was faulty and wouldn't switch on; so i took it back and got a replacement and all was well. Still purring along.
The thin slot of the dock I think was done so people wouldn't bend the USB connector at the bottom by ensuring you could only pull it out vertically. The Wii U and N3DS docks use different types of connectors; probably due to being just chargers. Still I wish they had made the slot a bit wider or even extendable. I have ordered a folding screen cover (like those you place tablets in) but I have a feeling it won't slide into the dock as it'll be too thick.
And again, fix the save file restrictions Ninty. We know how to save our data and want our backups. If this is to prevent modification of data; why the heck do you care? You don't have an asinine achievement system that lavishes self-gratification so if people want to ruin their experiences by cheating then let them! You're still getting paid!
No browser or entertainment apps and single dead pixel - are you kidding me?
Utterly ridiculous. 99.99% of people would rather use he phone I'm their pocket to look up online something about a game than switching their console away from their game and to the browser.
I have over a dozen Netfix devices already, and dont need yet another one.
Also Nintendo are right to say that a single dead pixel that can't be noticed by the naked eye is not a defect.
@Sinton My house - smart TV, 3 other consoles, 3 tablets, 4 phones, 2 laptops all with Netflix, YouTube, Internet browser and more.
@ULTRA-64 Over playing mediocre news as bad news is lazy clickbait. Does anyone really care that the Switch doesn't join their very long list of Internet browsing and entertainment app devices?
@Ralizah 15 feet. 15 feet long would be adequate.
@mike_intv I think that you inadvertently just proved our point. If your TV and iPad can play Netflix and browse the Internet why can't the Switch do it?
@Fandabidozi Zelda is 60. Switch is 299 about 390 after taxes
@MadAdam81 "mediocre news".....Is that a technical term? 😂
And in answer to do people care about internet browsing etc, you just undermined your own point by listing that every other device already does it on an article discussing the problems the switch has faced at launch. An article that wouldn't exist at all if it wasn't a talking point for some. I'm not saying you want it, I respect that it's not something your personally demanding. But if it effects the use of even 1 in 10 users then it's very relevant to discuss. I sell smart devices for a living, it's very very easy to find an alternative option, I would agree that much. However it doesn't mean that other people wouldn't use/expect those features as part of the package. In this day and age having an internet connection but no option to browse the web stands out as bizarre to say the least🤔
@cdmoore74 just saying.I could care less.I bought the switch to play games.GAMES not movies

To show that this generation is just a bunch of cry babies and spoiled brat you don't need internet on everything you got a tablet you got a cell phone TVs do it what does it matter that the system doesn't do it grow up quit crying because you're not entitled to nothing enjoy it for what it is and get over yourself and this generations going to be the downfall of the world grow up
@JHDK That's a hardware-issue though, and might be solved with some creative soldering!
@Slim1999 someone calling people with different opinions crybabies. Very mature. Hypocrisy like this will be the downfall of the world. You sound like Donald trump ffs 😂😂😂
@ULTRA-64 - I don't see any bullying, just debate, but I probably haven't read every comment. I mean no disrespect, but the decision to leave this site affects only you.
@bimmy-lee I LOVE a debate, I've had some great discussions on this site in the many years I've been contributing. At the moment if anyone says a negative opinion about the switch, it's likely they will be labelled as negative person. That they are against the switch in some way. You can look through any of the threads to see this ATM. I see a certain Irish contributor getting hate on almost every post. Would someone with relentlessly positive views be picked on as much?? The views you have shouldn't affect the way people treat you. Debates are about finding the pillars of the beliefs that make up an opinion, to understand better why someone feels differently. This community has always been very respectful in the past but right now there is a side taking stance which defies this. Im hoping it's just launch hype getting people a bit carried away and it settles down. It's sad that the community was more united in failure on the Wii u than is at the potential of the switch.....
@ULTRA-64 - Well stated. The general respect shown here is why I decided to join the community after years of daily lurking since the Wii days. This is the only internet community I've ever joined. However, I also appreciate that the community dispatches trollish/bait-y commenters swiftly, and there's definitely a difference between differing opinions and flat out trolling. I believe that certain Irish contributor is usually baiting, but if you find anything valid in what he posts; then more power to you.
@freaksloan No. But I take my iPhone (2x cost of a Switch) or my iPad (2+x cost of a Switch).
@Jessica286 Agreed. But difference between cool and being a problem/legit concern about the console.
@Slim1999 If none of those devices had a browser or multimedia apps you would then say that no one else puts those things on their devices so neither should Nintendo.
@cdmoore74 It probably can — and will eventually.
But one thing people forget is that the iPhone and iPad are 2 times (or more) the cost of a Switch.
@mike_intv They aren't 2 times the cost of a Switch because they have an internet browser and multimedia apps, those are just standard these days in much cheaper devices including Android phones and tablets. These things are even on Nintendo's previous 3 devices. There just isn't an excuse here.
The joy con blu tooth issue is more than just "fair-ish" for those who are experiencing it. I get constant drop-outs just from sitting on my couch that is only 7 feet from my TV. I have to constantly re-adjust my grip on the controller so as to not "block" the signal. Either that or scooch up from a comfortable position to the edge of the couch to get closer to the TV. Not an acceptable solition for a retail product. Its a real problem that they need to fix.
@bimmy-lee I don't think we're too far of each other on this. Nice to see some of us are still down to earth😁
In terms of the individual mentioned, if a negative fan-boy (whether baiting or not) is the worst problem we have. Then we're not doing too bad.....
Some sites have genuinely nasty trolls that deserve backlash and some have weird people pretending to be some kind of Nintendo space leadership 😂😂 you see all sorts on the internet....
What it boils down to is this. It will all get updated by 6 months and most of these so called problems will be moot. It's a great console and I love it. It has flaws all consoles do.
if Nintendo adds a browser to the Nintendo Switch, it better support flash video or i may never use. being able to browse the web is pointless if you can't do anything.
i don't have any problems with the friend codes. Facebook and other social media web sites use them as well, but in a more efficient way.
i hope Nintendo does add Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Video, and YouTube video. having it on the Wii U is nice, but i hate being forced into using the touchpad controller while viewing videos.
don't have any issues with the Joy-Con controllers yet since i have not had a reason to use them. hopefully, i won't have any issues with them once Mario Kart comes out. of course by then we will have those Joy-Con wheels. hopefully they will be better or just as good as the Wii wheels in which are only good while playing Mario Kart.
in terms of the amount of games that are currently available, i do not really care since i only purchased the Nintendo Switch to play certain games and most of them are going to be released later this year.
out of all the Nintendo Switch games i am interested, only the legend of Zelda is available. so far it is addicting but i hope i won't get tired of the games before another great game that i am interested in gets released.
i cannot really complain about a lot of the other issues on this long list since i am only planning to play games on the system while it is attached to its docking station. if i ever take it out of its docking station, it will be because i will be fighting someone for use of the TV and i hope that never happens.
of course then the closest i have come to that is when me, my dad, and my two sisters used to fight over when which of use would play Animal Crossing and when. of course that was back in the days of the GameCube.
@mikegamer
Not sure if you took my comment as a mock of the Switch cause I was just truly wondering in general.
@ULTRA-64 - Ha! Agreed on all fronts. In general, I find comment sections to be cesspools, but NL is different. With a handful of individuals as exceptions, I find this to be a very interesting place indeed. I look forward to future sensible discussions with you and others.
@Sinton
Tinfoil hat? Sounds like you need a reality check:
As US Customs and Border Protection outlines in a tearsheet it provides to people at the border, federal agents can seize and search your phone, and even make a copy of it to have forensic experts analyze its contents off-site.
How can they do that?
The Supreme Court decided in 1976 and 2004 that people have fewer claims to their Fourth Amendment privacy rights granted by the Constitution when entering the country, because the government has to protect its borders.

https://mobile.nytimes.com/2017/02/14/business/border-enforcement-airport-phones.html
@bimmy-lee spot on, internet high fives and all that! 😂😂
I'm sure I'll be more positively involved as the build up to E3 gets going. I'm sat playing my Wii u right now. Love it. I just need more reasons to jump on the switch bandwagon right now. A new pikmin game would pull me right on board 😁
@ULTRA-64
Are you saying that propaganda doesn't exist in media and that it doesn't paint a better picture for what feeds their existence. As I pointed out 3/6 articles on the homepage were negative towards Nintendo. This article is a repeat as I think all of them have had individual articles reported previously. The amount of it and for a product I have been more than happy with seems unfairly negative
I ain't arguing any of things are not in existence but they are not my early impressions and yes I expect more of a fan site, Sorry
@ULTRA-64 - I'm really excited for E3. Still on my WiiU as well, and I've loved it since day one. I've loved every Nintendo home console though, so I'm probably a bit biased. I have plenty of interest in the Switch, but not plenty of extra money at the moment. I have a toddler and an infant, so I probably won't see a Switch until maybe holiday season this year.
Edit: I also adore the Pikmin franchise, but that time limit gives me some serious anxiety, and I can't stand to abandon my Pikmin. I've reset fruitful days just because I left a couple of them behind.
@Sinton "I wonder how many people, with Netflix and/or Amazon Prime subscription, own a $300 Nintendo Switch, but don't own a smart TV or any other dedicated streaming device"
I don't know what that statistic is. I did see a survey a while ago showing that game consoles are by far the most used media streaming devices, at least for watching on a TV. This shows that it's something many consumers want to do. From the perspective of a company selling consoles, what consumers need to do is irrelevant, what they want is the only thing that matters. Here's a link to an article about that survey: https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2014/09/report-game-consoles-most-widely-used-video-streaming-devices-in-us/
As for why people would want to do this, if you already use your console regularly and like its user interface, it makes complete sense to me. I don't have a smart TV because it was purchased before smart TVs were common, and it's still a fine TV. I've considered buying an Apple TV or Fire TV or similar streaming device, but never bothered because my Xbox already does what I want, and I like the simplicity of using one device for games and movies.
@Agent721 If you believe you can own a smart phone, and avoid getting hacked by the US government by leaving your phone at home when you travel abroad, I don't know what to tell you. I don't live in the US, but I don't walk to th store without my phone, let alone travel abroad.
@Sinton
How about I'm sorry for saying you need a tin foil hat? Or is recognizing your wrong something you can't acknowledge? Are you that dense?!
When you travel to the US, this is the law and I sent you two articles, including a link to the US Government website, that says exactly what I told you. Sorry to burst your naive bubble! It's a big world out there!
If reading comprehension is an issue, go back to school and get educated. What a pathetic response.
I have to disagree with the article, lack of browser and Netflix etc is a total non issue, seriously by now most will have multiple options to access these already and who's paying for Internet if they have no way of using it? Left joy con is a problem, tried playing Bomberman on the TV and it was unplayable from my sofa with no obstruction, had to sit on the floor closer to it, on a table top this isn't a problem. Games - yes there is a lack of games at launch, luckily we have one that looks like it could be one of the best ever but other than that it's a bit sparse and Bomberman is nowhere near as good as it was on the Snes.
For me the biggest problem is the lack of a d-pad and this is what is stopping me from buying the likes of Shovel Knight on the system. As Nintendo are selling joy cons individually can't they make a left one which has a d-pad instead of the buttons?
@Agent721 I suggest you read this instead, at least before you travel abroad without your phone next time: https://wikileaks.org/ciav7p1/index.html
@dew12333 I guess we'll have to agree to disagree on this buddy, I'm really not on the same page. 👍
"That save files are on the unit is a serious issue. It is just unacceptable for Nintendo to do that in 2017"
Nintendo still thinks games are disposable toys. "If your memory is full, just erase some games and their save-files" is what they are thinking. Remember that they had rewrite-able floppy-discs for the Nintendo disc-system. Why on earth would you erase a game and place a different one on your floppy disc, that's really not done in my opinion.
Nintendo really has to realize that many of us gamers want to keep our games (and their save-files) forever. Nintendo just doesn't understand.
@Crono1973 I never said, nor implied it. The original question was "Are the Joy-Cons okay for left-handed people?" I find them fine, and I'm left-handed. Think before you comment, would you?
@Nintendoer Was the question you were answering quoted in your post?
More issues than normal... And they are worrisome. Disconnecting controllers, dead pixels...in what world are these things acceptable? Disappointed in my favorite video game company.
@Crono1973 Didn't need to be quoted. I replied to that person. It was not directed towards anyone else but the asker.
@ULTRA-64 Very good comments, bravo! Those who constantly chastise others through their self-righteousness are just as bad or worse than those who wallow in negativity.
I refurbish computers for a small business, which focuses on providing them to the needy. Even in the Washington, DC Metropolitan Area, there are literally tens of thousands of people living around the capital area of the supposedly most powerful and wealthy nation in the world, who do not even own a PC, though they may or may not have a cell/smart phone (usually loaned through a plan, not purchased).
Generally, I find all of the comments which make various claims about people having "no need" for another gaming device that can readily access the internet to be generally ignorant and insensitive. It is always a good thing to give inquisitive minds another avenue of access from an expensive dedicated tech device, of which the NS should also be considered part of. Of course, the truth is that there actually is a web browser for the NS, just that only hackers have achieved access to it right now, which may ironically backfire on the extremely paranoid policies that Nintendo has implemented... But I digress.
Allow me to show you something special:
https://html5test.com/s/a9cdd634af5787c0.html
Care to guess what that is?
It's the HTML5 test results of the current NS browser, "an unknown browser based on Webkit." It's an unfinished product, but Nintendo failed to cover it up. It basically has many potential areas of entry for exploit insertion, based on the current version seeming to have things in common with much older web browser versions.
This is why Nintendo didn't want to launch the NS with a web browser: it's unfinished, and what currently exists is so full of holes that it might lead to the NS getting fully hacked faster than the PSP.
I don't agree with a lot of these but mostly because many of these things are not issues I have dealt with. I'm using my switch for gaming, don't need a web browser. I have a smart phone and a laptop for that. I haven't had any joy con issues or experienced dead pixels. My dock does not scratch my screen and I have a screen protector. I bought my switch knowing full well I was only going to have LoZ to play(although I might pick up RMX and Snipperclips) and that's been more than enough for me. I have other things I can play while I wait for more games. I have no need for extra controllers or accessories.
I read a Nintendo Switch review in a Swedish magazine yesterday, and the title of it was "New functions, old graphics". It was one of the worst reviews I've ever read. The reviewer sounded like a spoiled kid that thinks they're an experienced gamer just because they play Candy Crush Saga on their iPhone.
They complained about the console being too expensive and having bad graphics... I shouted "Are you kidding me?!" out loud.
Dead pixels are not a defect and manufacturers aren't legally bound to guarantee zero dead pixels.
"Nintendo says dead Switch pixels are “normal,” which isn’t wrong" is an article worth reading — bit.ly/2nj6g6c
@Locke159 Does that even matter? The Switch is more of a beefed-up handheld than a home console. Would you compare the 3DS specs to those of the Xbox? No, so it's not relevant or necessary with he Switch.
@Seamoose
Relax there. Its a matter of just curiosity. Im currently on my lunch break playing BotW on it. The Switch is everything I ever wanted in a gaming platform. Its mobile and powerful. I was just wondering for third party support for its lifetime. No need to be so defensive.
@WiltonRoots ROTFL. That is too good!
@cj80 Yeah, and that's the same reason I will not buy an ASUS IPS monitor, out of fear of buying a $700 gaming monitor, getting some dead pixels, and then having the Asus representative say "oh, there is nothing wrong with this" At least Acer will consider it a defect and give me my money back!
Dead pixels are a defect. Anything electronic that is being produced should be identical in quality to the units that reviewer like NintendoLife gets. "Cherry-picked" systems do exist..and a functioning system is more likely to have a higher rating by reviewers. So....I don't really trust NintendoLife when they say "oh for us this is a non-issue".
On a side note, I will indefinitely put off my purchase of the NS until someone finds out how to hack into the system and allow users to place their save data on their micro-sd cards for achieving. Even if cloud-based storage will come, it is not a means to an end. Just like with how the DS and Wii games wifi ended, killing some of the appeal for games like Pokemon B&W2, the possible cloud storage will end. Then what will I do if no one found out how to unlock the storage? "Oh well, I had a good run?"
Simply unexcusable. Thankfully I can get BotW on the Wii U and nothing is coming out in the near future that entices me to the switch. Not to mention buying the NS and everything I want (NS+Screen Protector+Pro Controller+Stand+Hybrid Cover+BotW [assuming I don't get the Wii U version] + 200gb micro-sd card) costs about $530.
im using a 90 degree USB cable and a anker battery if i need to charge while using the stand the 90 degree angle bends to the back and thats what the system sits on. its not 100% stable but if you dont touch the system it does in a pinch.
@RatKing64 i have never used a browser on any game system it just seems dumb, you either have a phone, tablet or computer near you....and its not like this has cellphone support so browsing on the go is not happening.
