PolyKnight Games is releasing its unique flying game InnerSpace on the Switch early next year, it has been revealed.
Placing you in the role of an archaeologist who must recover the last remaining memories before the Inverse collapses on itself, InnerSpace sees you flying through "ancient skies and abandoned oceans" where "entire civilizations have been lost to history, yet their gods still wander."
Packed with inside-out planets where gravity is reversed, InnerSpace began life as a 2014 Kickstarter campaign. It looks a bit like RiME in space, if you ask us; those distinctive visuals look amazing.
InnerSpace takes flight on January 16th 2018 and will cost $19.99. Will you be stepping aboard?

Trailer didn't really explain the game.
Surreal graphics.
Very unclear gameplay explanation.
Looks like Abstract games created by Salvador Dali.
Looks great. Seems like a surreal interactive experience!
The game is beautiful to looks at, but this trailer didn't translate how you, the player, are involved in this.
Surreal art games are always welcome by me. Will surely buy if it reviews decently.
Description from their site sounds intriguing:
“Set in a world where physics are inverted, explore a setting of interconnected, inverted spheres. Each is an interior world of once-inhabited islands surrounded by water, where gravity pulls outwards, away from the center.
Piloting an agile craft, take the role of an unnamed cartographer to explore the various bubble-worlds, collect relics, and encounter each bubble's unique patron deity- all in order to discover more about the universe, its history, and its future.”
Nice, looks like a Sci-Fi Ryme with some BotW Divine Beasts models. I'm intrigued.
That doesn't look anything like the inside of Martin Short!
@sr_388
That's along the lines what I was thinking when I saw "Inner Space"
What in the name of Fox McCloud is going on?!?! I'm as intrigued as I am confused . . . .
I’m into this. A nice relaxing experience to balance DOOM
I'll bite. This looks cool in I like the concept of inverted planets
I'm intrigued but will it actually be fun or interesting to actually play?
This looks like Journey or Flower or even Pan-Pan and I love it. I just like to pick from time to time, a relaxing puzzle ish game. I love to just go in a mind trip when playing. Thats why I really wanted Rime to be good performance wise but it disappoint.
Well, personally, I don't think it's all that unclear what this game is about: you fly around, explore (inverted) planets, solve puzzles to for example open gateways (as clearly shown by the part in the trailer where your ship flips a row of giant switches/levers to open a gate) to move to the next world.
And apparently you meet patron-deities, kind of like giant avatars of those worlds, and I suppose these will act as end of level bosses that must be defeated or something like that.
And really: what's not to like? I thought that trailer was beautiful, both in visuals and in music, very atmospheric. I love the aesthetics, and the game's story also sounds interesting to me. Might very well be quite the entrancing experience...
And judging by the trailer, it seems to be moving at quite a leisurely pace, so I can imagine it would actually be quite relaxing to play. I'm definitely keeping an eye on this one.
@ThanosReXXX Is it actually 3D or 2D (like Forma 8) I have no idea lol.
Reminds me of Flower, more of a experience than game, but certainly a journey with graphics similar to The Unfinished Swan. Sit back and enjoy a peaceful time
I feel like this game would benefit from VR.
@GrailUK Well, you're flying around in space making turns in every possible degree and/or angle, and from the trailer, which actually does contain gameplay footage, I'd say it's clear that it's 3D.
Although for Nintendo fans, who are actually used to ACTUAL 3D, courtesy of the 3DS, I should probably say "traditional 3D" such as first displayed in N64/PSX games, albeit with a much nicer aesthetic imho...
@ThanosReXXX You're really on point! It's chill, but it's arcade-y and responsive with tight controls. With exploration and open-world progression.
I hope you check it out when we drop the game!
@godjammit It's definitely on my radar, so make it a great port and you can count me in.
Looks great, will purchase
Aesthetically looks like Abzu. I'm interested!
Want To know more!!!
Why do people nowadays release those trailers which don't give us any solid idea about gameplay? Death Stranding, for example, the cinematics on Game Awards was indeed superb... for cinematics, but what's the game about? What's the gameplay like?
I believe they are focusing too much on visuals and forgetting about the real thing a game is about: gameplay!
This looks like a super abstract Pilotwings with like 10 times the amount of serenity... count me in!
Instantly though it was a game based on the 80s film. But anyways, visuals look great, but no real storyline shown in the trailer. Just flying around, will reserve judgment til later
Not sure how I feel about this. Very stunning to look at, but I'll need to see a review to know how well the controls are done.
Alright, I’m interested
Certainly looks gorgeous.
If it's fun, I'm in. Reviews will tell all.
But at least it's on my radar now. Definitely one to pay attention to.
I really like the look of this. No idea what was going on but I want to find out.
@ThanosReXXX The screen shots on eshop all have a very small ship flying around a very large 2D looking environment...that's why I got confused.
No mention of No Man’s Sky from anybody! I’m surprised! When I saw the thumbnail for the article, the first thing that popped into my mind was NMS.
@WagnerDDS There is some gameplay on YouTube. It looks great, but that trailer was just nonsense.
Seems like a calm and artfully beautiful game but is it fun to play?
If this runs well, unlike the Rime port, I might give it a shot. I like exploring big fantastical worlds.
@GrailUK great to know. I'm going to check it out. Thanks!
Wow the game looks gorgeous. I’ll definitely be getting this.
@sr_388 man, beat me by...8 hours?? Crap it wasn't even close. XD
Please just make it run well.
@GrailUK Ah, I see. Well, the trailer should have at least cleared up that misunderstanding, or haven't you watched it yet?
@ThanosReXXX I had to go to YouTube to see what the game was about and watched some gameplay. That trailer was rubbish being far too cinematic for it's own good with half the time the ship flying outta the screen (which would be ridiculously unplayable) and the other half of the trailer featuring the ship flying off the screen or in to the distance (again unplayable lol!) or some random shape contorting, almost like it assumes you know what it already is! The game looks great though, but they are shooting themselves in the foot with the trailer because I found it too ambiguous. Now I know what the game looks like, I am looking forward to it more.
@GrailUK Well, in all honesty, I had no such qualms about the trailer here, as you might be able to tell from my first comment in this thread, seemed pretty clear to me, and the developer himself chiming in showed that I really wasn't that far off.
I've watched it again to see if it was really that confusing or incomprehensible, but for the life of me, I just can't see it. I see the puzzle elements, I see the giant bosses, and I see a ship flying in 3D space. From there on out, I didn't find it that hard to at least deduct part of what the gameplay mechanics would be.
But having said that, I do understand that all of us have our own views and interpret things in our own, individual way, so if the trailer wasn't clear enough for you, then fair enough.
As for it being cinematic: nearly all trailers of newly announced games are cinematic, and there's hardly ever any large chunk of gameplay in it. And it being cinematic serves a purpose as an introduction of the story and the world, and also to tease, so that you might want to know more, which apparently worked in your case as well, seeing as you did go and look it up on YouTube...
@ThanosReXXX Indeed. Glad I did tbh. And thanks for always being so constructive!
@GrailUK You're welcome. And I honestly wouldn't know any other way to be. I see no need to ridicule others simply because they don't share my views or opinions.
The only time I ever tend to slip up, is when people confuse their opinions with facts, because that annoys me to no end. But I can't recall ever having seen such shenanigans from you...
Looks interesting.
