A new Fig crowdfunding campaign has opened for Obelus, which is described as an "intense arcade combat sidescroller with a thought provoking narrative".
Created by Springloaded, Obelus places you in the shoes of Dave an interplanetary insurance salesman who finds himself "travelling and fighting aggressive fauna across the galaxy" with only his company-approved mech AI to keep him company.
The pixel-heavy visuals looks swish, and the soundtrack is shaping up to be something pretty special, too. The game's proposed platforms are Steam and Switch, but - depending on the success of the campaign - it could come to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One as well.

At the time of writing, Obelus has raised just over $11,000 of its $50,000 goal.

Looks good, but I'm wary of anything dealing with crowd funding these days.
Hints of Walker, on the Amiga. Good.
meh...
If you watch the video, there is a part where you have to press the (X) key, which to me means its on Playstation, not focused on switch or steam at all
@Bunkerneath the x button is because our default pc build actually uses an xbox Controller layout. Our company is very much focused on switch.
Very interesting, I'm looking forward to it.
I like this concept of double-gameplay, in your meka and out at any moment ! It reminds me of Blaster Master Zero which I like a lot !
I like everything but the 8 bit music. Just doesn’t do it for me. Good reviews might sway me though. I’ll keep an eye on it
I'm interested.
@Springloaded thank u for being a Switch lover.
@gurtifus Blaster Master Zero is a gem.
Game looks cool and the music is awesome! Hope the quality on the soundtrack is on par with this.
@Springloaded
Hello, I tend to back Kickstarter a lot and am interested in your project. Question for you: what is the gameplay going to be like? Could you reference any games that you were inspired by?
Thanks!
Can't help but notice we have games wanting to be on Switch before PS4 now.
@Kalmaro wouldn't be too worried when the game plays more simple like this. It gets all flucky when it's rendered 2.5d graphics, or sand box 3d, etc.
@Bunkerneath On their page they say that they will only port to XBox/PS4 if they pass initial goals. I just funded this - contrast of the hero sprite to the enemy sprites combined with the music feels reallllly good.
Ain't gonna lie, this looks and sounds really dope.
wow, that was intense!!
thanks for the support! To say I am excited about the game is an understatement! For combat I am kind of taking the stategy of something like gears of War, and blending it with contra. Your mech has different settings that make it feel a bit like different weapons (slow to fire massive damage, slow movement shield/low damage, fast / fly / machine guns, close combat horde kills with your shotgun when you run around.
You also have two health bars (your mech and yours, so managing both is anither unique strategical element.
The narrative is all about you and your ai, the ai teaching you things, but when you leave the ai and meet people you discover what might not be true....so you are never sure who to believe. it asks some big questions!
Thanks again for saying such nice things!!
@Springloaded
This sounds promising enough! Your page does a good job previewing it too. I dig the art style and the music as well.
I joined the campaign and hope it does well.
Cheers!
We gotta get Devolver Digital on this it could be amazing
