It's Monday morning, which means it's time for the European Nintendo Download Update, and the latest line-up certainly starts off our week with a bang. There are three promising new titles on the Wii U eShop, an equally tempting and colourful release on the 3DS eShop, three Mega Man retro releases and a whole load of discounts. Let's get to it.
Wii U eShop
Master Reboot (Wales Interactive, €11.99 / £9.99) — A "haunting first person sci-fi adventure" in which you work through the Soul Cloud, solving puzzles and attempting to make sense of your character's life and death. An intriguing concept, with footage also showing some fairly stylish visuals; we'll see whether it lives up to its potential in our upcoming review.
Super Toy Cars (Eclipse Games, €7.99 / £6.99) — This has been described as Mario Kart meets Micro Machines, though those are lofty comparisons. A racing game with a career mode and local multiplayer support, there are 12 tracks, 16 vehicles and 48 career events, along with a description of this as an "arcade combat racing game". We'll get into gear to bring you a review.
Wooden Sen'SeY (Neko Entertainment, €9.99 / £8.00) — This is an action platformer, joining various others in one of the most popular genres on the Wii U eShop. Along with standard running and jumping you have a grapple and some combat moves, with some other variations in level design; the setting is 'SteamPunk Japan', too. We'll bring you our review this week.
Wii U Virtual Console
Mega Man Battle Network (Capcom, €6.99 / £6.29) — Announced a good while ago, this Game Boy Advance title finally arrives on the Wii U, and it's the first entry in one of the most diverse Mega Man spin-offs that Capcom produced. An action RPG, we'll get blasting in this one to let you know what we think. This is the US version of the game.
Mega Man 5 (Capcom, €4.99 / £3.49) — Part of Capcom's Mega May event on 3DS, this arrives on Wii U — with another release — to round off the 'classic'-style NES entries on the system. We gave this one a strong recommendation in our Mega Man 5 review. This is the US version of the game.
Mega Man 6 (Capcom, €4.99 / £3.49) — Completing the NES set on Wii U, this was the end of an era and even introduced armour into the formula. Aside from that change, however, it was a safe effort and not one that lived up to some of the glorious earlier entries; nevertheless we gave this a reasonable recommendation in our Mega Man 6 review. This is the US version of the game.
Wii U Virtual Console Promotion

3DS eShop

Our review will be with you before release.
3DS eShop Temporary Discount

Battle Network! I loved that series as a teenager! I might have to take it for a spin down memory lane, though I do fear I've outgrown it. Solid week all 'round
Not a bad week at all! Master Reboot sounds good, plus so much Megaman goodness!
Still.......Shovel Knight?
@Ichiban

Yet another lousy week for the 3DS. Not really interested in that Fiesta game.
I got so sick of this year's slump (no game released in Australia this year, besides Kirby, has interested me). This week I decided to purchase an American 3DS. I also purchased Disney Magical World (a game that will probably never see the light of day in EU/AU). I am going over to America next year for a few weeks anyway, so I can pick up (hopefully cheaper) games while I am over there.
Shovel Knight...please...
Or a HD version of Xenoblade! I would kill for that...or donate a testicule
@Nintendzoey hmm, a US 3ds? What Americans games would you get that you can't get in Europe for it?
I'm getting Wooden Sen'SeY and Siesta Fiesta for sure. Also gonna look into Battle network. Not a fan of mega man but heard good things about this.
Overall it's a good week, and it's been a while!
Megaman 5&6 and zelda nes! I'd buy Megaman now since you don't know the future of Capcom. I will wait for the battle network review though.
@readyletsgo Disney Magical World for a start, as well as Rune Factory 4 (and that's just the games that should have been released in Australia this year, probably be more soon though. Australia never gets all the good games).
Are Show moto racing 3D and Aqua Moto Racing 3D really so bad?
Framerate problems, glitches etc?
Have trey made and update?
Thank for your help, if it worth to buy.
It might be worth pointing out that Super Toy Cars has promised to include a track editor. That's the main reason why that title caught my interest.
@Desy64
I'd rather have Nintendo make HD on GC games like Eternal Darkness, Luigi's Mansion, Super Mario Sunshine and Fire Emblem Path of Radiance since you can still play Wii games on Wii U. All I ask from Nintendo is release Selects version of FE Radiant Dawn, Pikmin 2, Xenoblade (already have this) since they are hard to find at a reasonable price.
Will download Mega Man 6, Dr. Mario and probably Pop'n Twinbee this week. Very tempted by Siesta Fiesta as well, but i'll wait for reviews on that one.
US version of Mega Man Battle network is because the EU version has an Ubisoft logo/splash screen.
Hmm the NES discounts I take as an admission that the prices should have been tiered to start with. Why else would SMB and LOZ being 30% off while the rest 50% off (when Nintendo typically gives 30% off). If they were all 30% off the "lesser" teir would be €3.59 instead of €4.99.
@Nintendzoey yeah I've come to realise that Australia seems to get forgotten about with a lot of stuff even though you guys are pal region too
So do you import a lot of your games?
I wish they would've discounted NES Remix 1 and 2 instead. I already own the NES games I want from that list...
@Ichiban Havent you seen the recent Shovel Knight localisation news ?
https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2014/07/yacht_club_games_gives_a_shovel_knight_localisation_update_with_pixel_graphics
It will take quite a bit more time for them to release it over here sadly. But believe me, youre not the only one waiting
And FINALLY capcom starts to release their promised games. About time really. I hope that anything labeled "MegaMan" will sell like crazy, just to show these [... ] again what a grave mistake it was to abandon this IP
@readyletsgo Sometimes. I have never had to buy a handheld from another region before though, since the DS was region free. Last time I was in America, I just got whatever game I wanted for the DS. Well, at least I can still get any PS Vita games without buying another handheld system.
MM Battle Network, Siesta Fiesta & Link battle for me.
@outburst I'd prefer if they did a bundle pack for Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn (kind of like with Bayonetta 1+2 or Metroid Prime Trilogy). I feel that if you're playing partially for the story, Path of Radiance really needs to be played first which is the more expensive game currently (£100 if you're really lucky).
As for the offerings this week, all 3 Mega Man titles are mine!
@Koapa Read their reviews, they are up.
@Desy64 I recommend clicking @gurtifus link.
Not interested in classic Megaman as the Megaman collection for ps2/GC are superior than any of the downloads (except 3ds because you can play them on the go).
Good week, but no sale on Ice Climber?
@Desy64 Yeah I'll put one of mine in for that.
Don't think I will bother getting the NES games again if the good ones are going to be only 30% off. I will get the Adventure of Link probably but that is it.
@Desy64 Waste time creating an HD edition on a worthless game like that? That's a good one. They're are loads of N64 and Gamecube games that need that treatment beforehand anyway. And if any Wii game gets remastered it should be the Galaxy Games and Zelda.
So where is our good week huh?
@Blue-Thunder Yes they will all transfer over, you can also "upgrade" the ones that Wii U VC counterparts for $1 to enjoy additonal functionality and features.
I already either have the NES games or I'm not interested. Nothing else is worth playing compared to Child of Light which arrived in this morning's post for Vita.
@ModestFan93 you speak bad again of this masterpiece I shall slap you with a placenta
@Desy64 I'd buy an HD Xenoblade, if only because it is so expensive right now for the old Wii. They should package it with the upcoming X
30% off for Zelda. Hmmmm.........
I wanted to get Zelda and Metroid, because if they were half price it would work out to be good value. However, I have them both on 3DS so at only 30% discount, I doubt I will bother.
@Grumblevolcano
Yeah I agree on the FE bundle. I'd really like to play FE games They should have bundled Pikmin 1&2 on Pikmin3 too. Pikmin1 is still easy to find and they are about 10-20 euros. Pikmin 2 is about 70+ euros online used. I found one in GameStop outside our city but the disc has scratches and it costs 25 bucks so I held on and still searching on other stores. Anyway, enough with the offtopic.
Here's the week that I hope someone recognizes me and my calls for Battle Network on the VC. Best game ever, I will be caught in so much innocent nostalgia of the good days.
But I live in the U.S. This week Capcom...pls.
@Desy64 That'd be more pleasant then playing that garbage game.
@Discipledoctor Can I request you to ask them for ZX Advent series and the Zero Collection too please?
YEEEEESSS! This is the 1st time Mega Man 6 has been legitimately available on a home console in Europe & finally being able to play Battle Network on the TV without having to fork out the prices the carts go for nowadays.... Thursday cannot get here soon enough!
@ModestFan93 Haha, I doubt that the Zero Collection will arrive considering that the individual GBA games are coming starting this year.
But man, I'd like to see ZX and Advent. Never had much of a chance with those two.
Super Toy Cars seems right up my alley, and apparently comes with a track editor. I'll be all over that if the reviews hold up.
good to see some Megaman... now I wonder if those will come to NA this week or be delayed
Hey, I might download Mega Man Battle Network before Shovel Knight arrives here.
@Discipledoctor The ZX games are awesome! Although, I can't see them or the Zero Collection arriving on the eShop since they are rather recent and DS games.
So all these titles apply to NA too right? Strong week
Capcom confirmed Battle Network 1-3, Zero 1+2 as well as MM7 & MMX3 are definitely coming to e-shop http://www.capcom-unity.com/brelston/blog/2014/06/09/virtual-console-update-gba-titles-breath-of-fire-and-more they've not mentioned Mega Man & Bass (essentially Mega Man 8.5) nor Zero 3 or 4 or the rest of the Battle Network series yet.... Wouldn't be surprised if they ported the ZX & Starforce games once the DS stuff takes off as those games didn't really set the world alight with regards sales so Capcom might see this as a 2nd chance for those 2 series'
Aqua/Snow moto racing 3D has it's reviews, but only on old versions, before update.
I want to know, if the are still "so bad" after an update. Plus, I don't know, if Show moto got some update too.
Hmmm. Battle Network and MM 5&6? Those were on the big list of announced capcom games with X3 and all those other great snes games. Perhaps they are coming soon.
@Mega719 Not necessarily, given the past for NoA I wouldn't be surprised if @BlackSpy's comment is reality.
@Grumblevolcano
yeah but... with how NoA has been going, you cannot really bet on that any more. Zelda Link to the Past, Mario 3, Pokemon trading card game plus many others either have not arrived yet or were delayed for a very long time. However at the same time, this would be Capcom doing this, not Nintendo so it might be very much more likely.
As long as in NA we get Siesta Fiesta too, I will be happy.
Will Mega Man 9/10 ever get ported to the Wii U??
I'm still waiting for a retail copy of NES 1and 2 remix!
@Nintendzoey Having had to sell my 3DS XL as a makeweight for the purchase of my beloved Wii U at the back end of last year (with it's steady stream of awesome indies, I just couldn't part with my Vita — I know, shoot me), I'm hoping to finally replace it this summer. And you know what Nintendzoey, I think you're really onto something by plumping for a North American system.
Indeed, three factors are pushing me towards investing in a US XL:
—1— First up, eShop games are generally cheaper than their EU counterparts. Plus, as I almost always download my handheld games (both eShop and retail), there would be no issues concerning not being able to play EU carts.
—2— Another factor is that I'm often left frustrated by the fact that so many great eShop titles are launching in America so far ahead of the rest of us. If I did have a US 3DS at my disposal, I'd already be playing two of my most anticipated games on any console, namely Shovel Knight and 1001 Spikes! Ditto Wii U, I guess, but Cave Story and VVVVVV are another brace of awesome indies that would have been in my grasp a good year or so ahead of their eventual EU relaeases.
—3— Lastly, with my younger brother taking his family to Disney World, Florida for their hols next month, what a great opportunity to get him to pick up a bargain for me while he's over there.
But... what do my fellow NintendoLifers reckon? Am I being blind mad and foolhardy or a shrewd, proactive Nintendo fan?
ON TOPIC: Really looking forward to Wooden Sen'Sey on Thursday!!
.
Still no Shovel Knight?! WTF?!
Oh, wasn't the NT Warrior anime based on the Battle Network spin-off?
I really liked that show as a kid.
I reaaaaaally hope North America gets the Mega Man titles this week as well.
Pokemon Link Battle discount is very tempting...
Xenoblade is so good they should be doing some tv series out of it
And why the heck is FE for the wii so expensive? I really wanted to try that franchise
What's with Nintendo and the release of hundreds of Mega Man? Twin Bee feels like a fresh release though
Wooden Sensey looks exactly like my kinda game so I'll get that (plus Neko are usually reliable)...I'll wait for a review of how Master Reboot is on Wii U. As for the VC games.. I downloaded a few on Wii already so I'm already entitled to a discount price...I've got both NES Remix 1 & 2 so would I be entitled to a further discount price to upgrade those VC games to Wii U versions if you get what I mean?
Does anyone know if New & Tasty comes out for Wii U this week? I thought I saw that it was dropping for the other consoles.
@Desy64 Totally second this! Hopefully more devs realise some games are worth a rerelease. Bayonetta 1 on wii u will be a god send. Hopefully more devs also realise some wii games are more rare than unicorn poop. Xenoblade chronicles,the last story, pandoras jower, metroid prime trilogy, a shadows tale all need to see a hd update!
Master Reboot for me. Very intrigued.
@AcesHigh73 Thing about it is what happens if the console ends up dead for whatever reason ? All the content is potentially lost (Which always ends up being loads more than a new system).
@Vhyper1985
Awesome! I want those MMZero games.
Getting the three Mega Man games. and the five cheap NES games. Already have Mario and Zelda but not the others. Urban Champion is even worth it at that cost.
@outburst keep looking man, I just picked up a copy of pikmin 2 the other week for £25 after a few months looking. They're still out there, good luck!
Thing about it is what happens if the console ends up dead for whatever reason ? All the content is potentially lost (Which always ends up being loads more than a new system).
I have games from 2006 when i first started downloading games on Virtual Console. Yes, its possible but its not as common as critics want it to be.
@Marshi didn't play pandora's tower as well :/ I guess Nintendo just doesn't want to follow any trends but these HD remakes would fill in the gaps between releases
@Discipledoctor I hope they release in the US too.
Ah, so Capcom does start with the first Battle network. Of course that makes the most sense. I might download it someday.
@Desy64 @whodatninja
Yeah! More HD remakes!
If they release HD remake of Xenoblade, I will buy Wii U instantly(within a week)))
You guys are so lucky! I wish that we got that promotion! I would otherwise be all over that Urban Champion discount!
Wooden Sen'Sey.. Because NoA is run by the stupidest people on the planet.
No MM 5 OR 6 release dates and no Battle Network until next week.
Frankly, I think I'm done with the systems they have on the Wii U's VC.
MAYBE MMBN2 or Terranigma, but those are big maybes.
Realistically, I don't think Sega or Square Enix will ever support it, nor do I think any of the 'updated' series (Contra, Bionic Commando, Strider, etc..) will ever come to the Wii U.
And, seeing as this will be Nintendo's last home console, you will never see another EA, 2K or Bioware game on a Nintendo console (I don't count Wii. It's dead).
The only exception MIGHT come from 2K's NHL series, but I seriously doubt it.
@Bass_XO
I think he means, what if the system physically stops working. Like, what if a person bought the import system and accidentally dropped it?
In the host country, the system can be backed up (maybe) and sent in for repair.
BUT, if the system was an import, things tend to get more complicated.
Battle Network, i just hope we get them all eventually.
