Re: LEGO Reveals New Donkey Kong Adventure Playsets

vyseofhr

@megasean

Yep, agreed. My daughters (6 & 5) adore Lego Mario, both building and playing. The app you use for building is fantastic too, in much the same way that Labo was. You can manipulate the drawings, turn them around, and my daughters have learnt to read Lego instructions brilliantly.

It is what you make it. We have a great time building the sets for the first time together, and then they make their own courses. All the builds are full of Easter Eggs (the Bob-Omb Battlefield painting in Peach’s Castle and some of the touches in the Luigi’s Mansion sets really made me smile) and hey, if you don’t want to build Mario stuff, take it apart and it’s normal Lego too.

I think my daughters will be interested in at least one of these sets, they loved DK in the movie.

Re: Nintendo Direct Zelda Announcement Rumours Intensify

What a great excuse for a bit of ass-covering!
Grubb and his mates:

“A Direct will definitely happen soon!”

or

“Maybe it won’t. (But if it doesn’t, it must be because of X reason speculation)”

Either way, the prediction comes true. It either happens or it doesn’t! Bingo! You’re an Internet industry insider!

Re: Nintendo Appears To Be Stockpiling Raw Materials, Doubles Its 2019 Spending On Supplies

vyseofhr

If they are like every other company in the world over the last two years they are bunkering/storing critical components. Unfortunately this has exacerbated the supply problems the world currently faces in certain commodities.

Every company worth their salt has been increasing stock levels and implementing whatever deal they can to mitigate the risk of a critical shortage. I very much doubt this is Switch 2.0, or whatever.

Re: Nintendo Switch System Update 13.1.0 Is Now Live - Adds The Switch Online Expansion Pack

vyseofhr

@KevynOnVideo Exactly the same here. I was ready to push the button, against my better judgement, but that has just made me go 'nah, you're alright'.

I am now the only person in my family group after a breakup earlier this year, so 48 quid to upgrade to something only I use is far too much. Nintendo have diddled themselves out of a sale there by not freely allowing movement between plans. I can wait.

Re: Video: Want More Switch OLED Comparison Footage? Feast Your Eyes On This

vyseofhr

I’m really torn. I like the idea of an OLED, and my current Switch is quite literally falling apart after years of travel with me for work. But the upgrade is so incremental (and approaching the price of new Series X here in Sweden) that it puts me off.

I also know that as soon as I bite the bullet and buy one they’ll finally announce the 4K variant.

Re: Rumour: Switch Will Reportedly Receive A Price Cut Ahead Of The OLED Model's Launch

vyseofhr

I work in procurement with one of the world’s largest corporations and quite simply, I will believe it when I see it. There are material shortages (which in English means price increases) in pretty much every sector right now and the cost of shipping goods has increased around 8fold in the last six months alone.

The only reason I could see anyone making such a move in today’s market conditions is to move unwanted stock. And the Switch is still selling like hot cakes regardless so mark this one down as a bogus from me.

Re: Back Page: Ranking Every Version Of Fairy Fountain From The Legend Of Zelda

@Shannynerd

I won VIP tickets to the 25th anniversary show in October 2011 through Nintendo, what a night it was. Got to meet Anouma and got a special lanyard which I have together with the programme in a display cabinet at home. Magical evening. Fairy Fountain and Gerudo Valley blew me away, and I remember loving Koji Kondo’s bit from Wind Waker on the piano.

One of my other abiding memories from the evening was the sheer number of Streetpass hits though; I got hundreds that evening!

Re: Soapbox: Music Just Don't Come Spookier And Sadder Than Zelda: Majora's Mask

vyseofhr

You missed Astral Observatory! The real MVP of the Majora’s soundtrack.

In all seriousness, the fact that they turned around MM inside a year is simply incredible. I get the reusing of assets and characters, but it’s so tonally and structurally different from OoT that it’s hard to imagine something so intricate and complex being constructed inside 12 months. I entirely concur with you Kate, the soundtrack is also the series’ best. It’s so evocative of the game’s mood whilst still sounding like Zelda.

But that was MM’s genius. That a game made 20 years ago, with all the restrictions that entailed, could be so thematically deep, and come as close to the “games as art” subculture that has developed in recent years is testament to just what an achievement MM really was.

I know many would love to see remakes of the N64 games, but I feel they’re so of their time (no pun intended) that any attempt to remake them would feel wrong.

Re: Zelda & Loftwing amiibo Impacted By "Unforeseen Shipping Delays" In America

vyseofhr

For those that aren’t in the know about these sorts of things, logistics, from anywhere to anywhere else pretty much at the moment, are an absolute nightmare.

The price of booking a container on a ship has increased tenfold China to Europe, in the space of about six months. I know it’s the US in question, but they are seeing the same increases. It’s not just related to Ever Rise (the freighter that got trapped in the Suez Canal) either, it’s all related to movement of containers and the current cross-sector shortage or materials (plastics, steels as well as semiconductors) that are driving the insanity.

Full sympathy with Nintendo on this issue, as I can guarantee they aren’t the only ones fighting against the tide when it comes to product availability.

Re: The E3 2021 Awards Winners Are In, But Nintendo Lost Out

vyseofhr

I’m guessing the Venn diagram between people screaming about Forza Horizon being “just another driving game” and those that get upset at Nintendo being “for kids” would give a pretty wide crossover.

Sigh. Just because a game isn’t for you it doesn’t mean it’s a bad game. You can choose what you play. What do other’s tastes matter?

Re: Switch Was Outsold By PS5 And Xbox Series X|S In The UK Last Month

vyseofhr

I don’t exactly think the Nintendo bean counters will be worrying yet, however the console desperately needs some new, high profile software.

I haven’t bought a Switch game since Hyrule Warriors, whereas especially PS5 seems to now be getting into its stride. If supply of the console wasn’t so constrained it would be cleaning house.

Re: Nintendo Releases Two Day-One Updates For Miitopia On Switch

vyseofhr

The one that I always remember is WWF No Mercy. A came that is pretty much considered legendary now, but that shipped its entire first run of cartridges with a game-breaking bug that deleted ALL of your save data. Repeatedly.

My best friend at the time and I had an entire fantasy federation with our own characters, shows and storylines that followed us all the way from the old WCW/NWO games, and to have it repeatedly break on us was nightmarish until THQ got around to sending out replacement cartridges to those that complained about six months later.

The generic CAW1 music from that game still invokes nightmares...

I am very happy for day one updates.
