Re: Zelda: Skyward Sword HD Tops "Best Seller" Chart On Amazon, As Pre-Orders Sell Out

@JuiceMan_V Thanks, but telling me I “don’t understand” both clueless (given that you know precisely nothing about me or what I do for a living), condescending, and totally symptomatic of how tonedeaf comment threads are.

Yes, Nintendo do gouge, when they can get away with it. I made no specific reference to SS HD although I do think this product is overpriced. Miitopia. The Famicom Detective games. All MRSP. That’s not refusing to undervalue, that’s artificially inflating value because Nintendo for better or worse know their audience and know that they can charge the maxium possible price and people will still pay it. Like someone said above: Economics 101.

They are a business and only work hard for your money when they have to. Wii U got a stack of classic games because Nintendo were under pressure. Switch had a great first year because it was make or break.

Nintendo know they have an insanely loyal fanbase who lap up everything they produce. And there’s nothing innately wrong with that. And you are correct, complaints are relative. But I have been buying Nintendo for nigh on three decades now, and have a pretty good feel for their value proposal. And in the case of Zelda, charging €60 for implementing button controls is not a practice I want to encourage.

Re: Splatoon 3 Was Just Announced, But Splatoon 2 Isn't Done Just Yet

vyseofhr

@FragRed The reason I wonder about a change in model is due to the short interval between sequels. Look at the time since we last got a Mario Kart, for example. And other developments in the industry since then, Fortnite, Apex, etc etc. The model is popular. The cheaper base product was a side point really, and I agree, is probably not so realistic.

But if there was no change in model in mind there, for me there is no reason for a sequel. The user engagement in Splatoon 2 is still high. Splatfests are still popular. It’s just a curious sequel to announce for me if they are not trying something different.

Re: Skies Of Arcadia Dev Says Remaster Or Sequel Depends On Sega

@AtlanteanMan

I am purely, purely being devil's advocate here, because I want these games as much as you.

But do we consider that any of the franchises that have seen reboots, ie Dreams, Panzer Dragoon, Shenmue, Phantasy Star etc have been successful? I think it's most likely that Sega is aware of a vocal minority, but probably thinks that a highly-acclaimed RPG that sold poorly (roughly 150k on DC, 200k on GC) isn't worth the time to update it. And from a business standpoint it's hard to argue against.

Re: It's Not Out Yet, But Super Mario 3D All-Stars Is Already 2020's Second Best-Selling Game On Amazon

@AgentGuapo Widescreen would have been the dream. But I don't necessarily mean tampering with the games themselves; extras like concept art as unlockables on the cartridge, even borders for Mario 64 if the widescreen support was too much to manage. Just a few litte value added extras to make the package feel less like a cash grab and more like the celebration they are advertising it as.

Re: Nintendo Direct Mini: Partner Showcase Airs Later Today

vyseofhr

From the wording in the tweet, I wonder if we may get a few Direct Minis in quick succession...

Ie. Monday - 3rd party previously announced
Tuesday - 3rd party new titles
Wednesday - indies showcase
Thursday - 1st party updates and DLC
Friday - 1st party new titles.

All around 10-15 minutes long. Probably not not going to happen, but it would definitely build hype through the week.

Re: Nintendo And The Pokémon Company Release Joint Statement On Sword And Shield Leaker

vyseofhr

@gaga64 If the embargo is on or after release day, then I am inclined to agree. Most embargoes however simply serve the dual purpose of ensuring firstly there is no race to be 'first' with the review (and thus the potential for poor quality reviews without a decent playthrough) and a way of reducing chances of spoilers for players.

Nintendo are typically pretty generous with their embargoes, having them lift a week or even longer in advance of release date.

Re: UK Retailer GAME To Close 40 Stores In "Rationalisation Programme"

@RadioHedgeFund Exeter was a mecca around the turn of the millennium - it had all of the major players, Gameststion, a big GAME concession in Debenhams, plus three or four really good independents, one of which, IT Games used to import also (it was where I got Animal Crossing GC + the freeloader). Nowadays, needless to say, there is only a GAME left, and it's terrible.
