Ending what has been a long-running rumour, Konami and Bloober Team have both formally announced a 'strategic cooperation agreement', with the companies confirming this will mean "jointly developing selected contents and exchanging know-how."
Konami needs little introduction of course, but in recent years has been making a concerted effort to raise its output once again; though it develops eFootball PES internally, the publisher has been turning to third-parties for various other releases. Bloober Team is known for its horror games in particular, the most recent being The Medium.
This announcement will further reinforce speculation that we may see a return of the Silent Hill franchise, as that would clearly be the perfect fit for Bloober Team's experience. It'd certainly be a high profile project, while franchises like Metal Gear and Castlevania are also going around the rumour mill, though they don't seem like obvious fits for the Bloober Team collaboration.
Would we likely see the results of the Konami / Bloober Team collaboration on Nintendo hardware in years to come? Possibly, it would no doubt depend on how eager Konami would be to reach the sizeable audience for Nintendo Switch and beyond. Konami is publishing and supporting the upcoming GetsuFumaDen: Undying Moon on the platform, for example. In terms of Bloober Team, while The Medium is unlikely to reach Switch due to its extremely demanding visuals and dual-screen mechanic, titles like Blair Witch and Layers of Fear 2 have had Switch ports.
It may be some time before we see the results of this 'cooperation agreement', but it'll certainly be interesting.

Unpopular opinion: I really enjoyed SH: Shattered Memories, the best Western Silent Hill.
Dayum, the thought of Bloober potentially doing a Silent Hill project... :3
@PlusFan I see your appreciation for Shattered Memories and raise you mine for Book of Memories.😜😄
@Slowdive The psychological profling mechanics were such a breath of fresh air!
@PlusFan
The game bits were great, the chase bits not so much. Same with Downpour, the exploration was decent, but it was ruined by god-awful combat.
God I wish there was an MGS game on Switch! V, to be precise.
It’s nuts to me how Bloober Team have gone from being tied to Nibris Wii vapourware and shoddy DSiWare in their early days to making a Blair Witch game and potentially a new Silent Hill. Good for them!
I really enjoyed the Medium, would be awesome to see a next gen Silent Hill using similar twin world mechanics for the puzzles.
@Mr-Fuggles777 Me too. It was at it’s core a walking simulator but the story was enough to keep me gripped throughout
@PlusFan I've always had great appreciation for the title. It has its flaws, but it's still one of my most thoroughly enjoyed Silent Hill experiences, one of my most anticipated games ever when I first saw its first trailer, and a technical marvel on the Wii, despite its flaws again.
The Wii remote was made to be a flashlight, gun, sword, or simply pointer. And Silent Hill made it a flashlight on the same level as RE4, Dead Space Extraction, and HOTD Overkill made it a gun, and Skyward Sword and Red Steel 2 made it a sword (and many games made great use of it as a pointer obviously, but I always think of Zack & Wiki and the Broken Sword remake first). Great games made much better still by the Wii remote. I'd add that is was very well used in The Godfather to enhance the fist fights and gun combat. I just loved my Wii as a main console, overshadowing my PS3, even as a "hardcore gamer". And indeed, Silent Hill was and still is one of the Wii's flawed greats. Always reminds me of some much more flawed Wii horror games that I nevertheless equally enjoyed: Fragile Dreams, and Calling. So many hidden gems and forgotten exclusives on that system, it's not even funny anymore.
A silent hill game that most likely won't be coming to Nintendo anyway
@PlusFan What a great game it is. The best level is the school one. A good reimagination of the original.
All those rumors were false then hahahaha. Believe the news once they come from the same company, not when a random guy says them on Twitter.
Silent Hill has gone downhill after part two anyways. The real fact is all the gamers who play those earlier games now grew up and aren't scare anymore thus it would be pointless for them to play a slow pace game of that nature and atmosphere ever again.
Silent Hill would be the obvious fit for them.
Bloober has put games on switch before. the Medium isn’t coming because of its high power visuals. Idk if the new game Bloober is working is silent hill, If it is I do kind of hope it is a cross gen release on all platforms including switch.
And Konami seems pretty eager to support the switch. Momotaro Dentsu sold a lot in Japan and I think the collections also did well so I think Konami would or MIGHT bring silent hill to switch. RE games were successful on switch, maybe Konami would like to try with silent hill
@Little_Squee The Fox Engine doesn't support the switch. Its one of the main reasons why PES hasn't come to switch yet.
Now that Konami is switching to UE(I think it is UE4), it is more likely we will see a switch version this year.
Blair Witch was terrible.
Castlevania as a 3D over the shoulder survival game would be TIGHT!!! It could be a mix of a non-Belmont exploring the Castle, solving puzzles and some action sequences with bits that tie into a 2D reboot made by another Konami team
@PlusFan Dr. K's animations from "Shattered Memories" really knocked my socks off, concerning he was in a Wii game. And I still occasionally listen to some of the music to this day!
@anoyonmus Didn't know about that. 👍
