Ending what has been a long-running rumour, Konami and Bloober Team have both formally announced a 'strategic cooperation agreement', with the companies confirming this will mean "jointly developing selected contents and exchanging know-how."

Konami needs little introduction of course, but in recent years has been making a concerted effort to raise its output once again; though it develops eFootball PES internally, the publisher has been turning to third-parties for various other releases. Bloober Team is known for its horror games in particular, the most recent being The Medium.

This announcement will further reinforce speculation that we may see a return of the Silent Hill franchise, as that would clearly be the perfect fit for Bloober Team's experience. It'd certainly be a high profile project, while franchises like Metal Gear and Castlevania are also going around the rumour mill, though they don't seem like obvious fits for the Bloober Team collaboration.

Would we likely see the results of the Konami / Bloober Team collaboration on Nintendo hardware in years to come? Possibly, it would no doubt depend on how eager Konami would be to reach the sizeable audience for Nintendo Switch and beyond. Konami is publishing and supporting the upcoming GetsuFumaDen: Undying Moon on the platform, for example. In terms of Bloober Team, while The Medium is unlikely to reach Switch due to its extremely demanding visuals and dual-screen mechanic, titles like Blair Witch and Layers of Fear 2 have had Switch ports.

It may be some time before we see the results of this 'cooperation agreement', but it'll certainly be interesting.
