Nintendo is much too protective of their IPs. Also, and I hate to be "this guy", Samus really isn't that popular outside of the Nintendo hardcore. Not counting of the 3DS Samus Returns remake, I think that the last metroid game was Other M on the Wii. Even Metroid Prime 3 wasn't a big seller.
So... Not only do I not see Nintendo doing this, but I also don't see this generating much income for Fortnite. To everyone claiming that this would be a great fit, I just don't see it.
Wait... Is there going to be traditional Online Multiplayer like Doom 2016? Or is Doom Eternal only limited to the asymmetric 2 vs. 1 Battle Mode?
EDIT: Nope, no traditional online multiplayer. Yeah, I know that most people play Doom games for the single player experience. Although, I really enjoyed Doom 2016 online multiplayer (maxed out my Doomslayer and clocked in over 300 hours.)
Best of luck to ID, Bethesda, and especially Panic Button. This is a Deal Breaker for me (I can't believe that I didn't know this until now).
Love it... Has some very cool features too. For example: every NES and SNES game is loadable from the Hub, organized by the year of release, and even shows how old you were upon release (if the release date falls within your birth month).
Yeah... Maybe I'm just an oddball, but Nintendo fans just come across as overly nitpicky this Gen. Unless, it's an article about the WiiU. That's when everyone plays Hipster lol. Gimme a break
I just use my NSO SNES controller for NES games. I didn't want to splurge on both, mostly play solo, and have one designated controller for all things retro.
Although, I have always liked the fact that these can be charged on your Switch console. Very clever design choice.
@TheWingedAvenger I agree with your overall point, about next Gen not being what it used to be... You're right about that, but... Slashing PS2/PS3 numbers in half? ... really?
@TG16_IS_BAE Unless you were actually expecting to be paid, I don't see how that is even relevant.
Just because you're not getting paid doesn't mean that you don't benefit from Nintendo's success... I mean, assuming that you buy Switch games.
An increase in hardware sales figures would result in an increase in the install base. That alone makes the Switch much more attractive to third party developers.
An increase in software sales figures would result to more sequels or dlc, typically.... Maybe spin-offs.
Again, assuming that you actually buy Nintendo Switch games, the financial success of the console definitely benefits you.
@TG16_IS_BAE Shareholders also care about sales figures, for obvious reasons.
As for gamers, probably not so much. Although, if you consider how poorly the WiiU sold in comparison, this is a good time to be a Nintendo fan. Large sales figures will only benefit the Switch, moving forward.
@johnvboy Widespread and systematic enough... If you ask me.
I remember when I first learned how to drive. My Dad spent more time explaining how to behave WHEN I'm unfairly stopped (that's when, not IF). A good friend of his was shot, getting his license and registration, after a Policemen specifically told him to. I was taught to always keep my hands on the steering wheel. Also, to keep silent when told that I "resemble" a suspect in the area.
@Giancarlothomaz I think that Switch 2 will launch before 2025... But... Everything else that you're saying sounds spot on 💯
With the number of hardware sales, there's no logical reason for Nintendo/Retro to hold the release of Prime 4 to launch on 2 consoles... That's just a terrible business move, imo.
Games like Twilight Princess (GC & Wii) and Breath of the Wild (WiiU & Switch), released on the dying breath of underperforming consoles. The Nintendo Switch is already a success that has blown expectations out of the water. Switch will have Prime 4 all to itself 💯
@JimmySpades $180 for a WiiU... I'm assuming that that comes with some really damn good games bundled in... That's crazy, but yeah... Ok, that's eBay for you.
Anyways, I completely agree with your stance on this Topic. It's an old game on a dead system. Even at a $60 price tag, Pikmin 3 will sell significantly more on the Switch.
It's not scummy at all, imo, it's Business. If you don't like it then don't buy the game... It's no worse than the people here that won't buy a game, until it goes on Sale (that doesn't make you a shady scummy consumer, does it?)
@johnvboy Well... to be fair @ShallweSlay original comment was directed towards the Moderator about not being able to comment on the specific article, in the first place.
I'm not implying that you don't have the right to share your point of view, as well. I have my own personal opinions about the subject, and I think that dialogue is good in the long run. That is, as long as it's mature.
That being said, I think that you both have gone deep enough down this Rabbit Hole.
Ports make sense, for all of the reasons that you both mentioned. Although, one could argue that the Switch is becoming more of a "dumping ground" for WiiU games. This is not to say that these games are not well made, or undeserving of a larger audience. Although, I'm sure that Nintendo lost money on these games coming to WiiU (HD development cost meets dreadful install base).
In the end, it's all a matter of perspective, for a gamer. Although, it's hard to ignore the scenario that Nintendo is essentially just trying to "break even" with certain WiiU titles. I'm almost certain that if the trend was porting/remaking/remastering/ "deluxing" older games from more successful systems, there would be much more excitement (i.e. Link's Awakening and Xenoblade).
@RPGamer Agreed... But I don't think that's what he's saying at all. To be fair, it's hard for anyone to get excited about games that you already own.
I understand both sides... So let's be frank, Nintendo is a business 💯
These games are not ported simply out of the goodness in Nintendo's heart, to make sure that everyone gets a chance to experience them. I admit that that may be part of the reason, but the ultimate goal is to make money. To make as much money as possible, using as little resources as possible... Period.
As someone who also owned a WiiU, it's hard not to feel like I'm expected to "pick up the slack" for a failed console. I get that, completely, it makes sense.
From this list, I'd buy the 2 HD Zelda games. I bought The Wind Waker HD, but moved on by the time Twilight Princess HD came to WiiU. I already beat it, 100% completion, on the Wii.
Although, I would be much more interested in the 3DS remakes of Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask. Even with the potential of N64 coming to NSO, the originals have not aged well, imo.
And... No, I'm not implying or hoping that Bayo 3 goes multiplat. Truthfully, I'm not entirely sure how you came up with that conclusion, from my statement. Although, I really appreciate the Reply, and I can explain...
I found Kamiya's statement provocative. I believe it to be true, but also bold for any 3rd party developer on the eve of the next Gen. Basically... He has absolutely nothing to gain by making that statement. That is, unless he plans to have a current gen exclusive on the shelf, at the exact same time that the new consoles launch.
Hmmm... I'm going to change my previous opinions, on Bayo 3 (production/release date).
I actually think that there is much more to his statement...
Bayo 3 will launch as a 2020 Holiday exclusive for the Nintendo Switch. I think that Kamiya is anticipating Bayo 3 sharing the shelves with Next Gen launch titles.
I honestly cannot think of any other reason, from a business standpoint, why he would say this. Is it True... Sure, at least I think that it's True. Although, I don't think that it's a wise statement to make... If you're wrong, you look "out of touch" with the industry. Worst case scenario, you risk offending the big dogs over at Sony and Microsoft.
There has been a Sonic Game, in some form, released every year from 2005 to 2020. Although, back in "My Day", 16 bit, things seemed a lot more spaced out... Hopefully, this is a return to form.
Anyways, I am also very excited for Sonic. I absolutely loved Sonic Mania. I am hoping for a sequel. In my opinion, it would be Perfect for the Anniversary.
Saw "The Wizard" in theatres, originally. Although, I have re-watched recently as well, within the past year. That Super Mario Bros. 3 scene still gives me goosebumps to this day.
Also, leaking the location of the Flute in the Castle Stage, for the Warp... That was so awesome 💯
Too young to care about "spoilers", just wanted to try it out and Warp to the Giant World like Jimmy 😎
You're right, I'm really looking at it more from a similar 3D Mario aspect. Although, I also did bring up Paper Mario originally... It's not a 3D Platformer, fair is fair. I don't mind you bringing up other games under the "Mario Banner" either.
On a more positive note, I think that we could get 1 of the 2. Any 3D Mario would be perfect for the holiday season. Although, if we do get both, I definitely won't complain... Just keeping my expectations low, for now.
@westman98 Agreed, definitely not crazy. Although, very unlikely, especially with no formal Direct.
The examples that you gave are true, but they are not the "norm". Also, they still have more space in between them... And Paper Mario launches in June. That leaves less than 6 months for the 3D Mario's and 3D World... During a Pandemic.
Don't get me wrong, I'll be very happy if Nintendo does otherwise.
I understand not scheduling Nintendo Directs during the Pandemic, but the rest of his statement seems so odd...
If these rumors are true then that's a lot of Mario games in just a small window. Without proper spacing, Nintendo will cannibalize their own products. Even with Mario's Anniversary, it seems weird to release all of those games in the next 6 months. Personally, I think that in the next 12 months would be too close together, especially considering that the new Paper Mario game launches in June. Also, scheduling all of this out, without a Direct,... Yea... I don't think so...
I'm calling Bogus on the 3D Mario rumor! I think that Super Mario 3D World is much more likely, however, there is no way that we're getting both in the same year.
@retro_player_77 "Dude it's 2020, gaming has change just like how the world has change. If you still live in your 80s/90s bubble then go retro cause modern gaming is not for you"
You do realize that your username is retro_player, right?
Although, I don't think that it's necessarily shifting blame. Even if Nintendo had already anticipated a "slow" 2nd half of the year, with the current Pandemic things have changed. Why rush now, and why not take your time?
I don't work in the industry, but from a business standpoint I would imagine that the normal development process will be significantly slowed down all across the board (i.e. Shipping, Quality Control, Marketing etc..). Retailers, competitors and 3rd Parties will all be moving at a much slower pace now.
Make sense... This is completely understandable. Although, if Nintendo had a massive 2020 release schedule, they would be able to steal a lot of the "Thunder" from the new consoles releasing towards the end of year. That being said, Animal Crossing has already clinched GOTY, in my opinion. I don't play it, but I'm very excited for it's current and future success.
Other than that, I am keeping my expectations LOW... Maybe one surprise 1st Party announcement, of the port/remake variety, for this year. Anything else will be 3rd Party, in my opinion.
I had already given up hope for Bayonetta 3 in 2020. I'm sorry but statements that game development is progressing "nicely" or "as planned" don't really mean much to me. It's redundant, game development is supposed to progress... Right? I have my suspicions that something is up. I honestly thought that BOTW 2 had a much better shot at releasing this year, before the Pandemic.
It's not my favorite in the series, but definitely Top 5.
I love the sense of urgency that Majora's Mask brings to it's quest. It can be challenging, but it delivers a real sense of accomplishment after completion.
The article is about people making sacrifices to continue to do their Jobs. You were the first person to even mention the Flu.
We can simply Agree to Disagree, on the Politics of quarantine... Ok?
Also, I don't think that you're at all qualified to preach to anyone here about manners. Your original comment was completely unprovoked and very insensitive.
@datamonkey Understood, and I appreciate the actual numbers.
Not to split hairs with you, but I don't think that anyone was claiming that COVID-19 had already surpassed the Flu death toll for this year.
The original comment was to "wake him up" when the death toll comes "somewhat close...". Obviously, I took issue with that statement. I found it to be very thoughtless and attention seeking.
That being said, I think that the number of reported cases and deaths is already significant enough to be taken seriously.
@Scollurio The "Subject" is that people's personal and professional lives are being negatively impacted, not to make you worried/convinced of anything.
Frankly, I find it amusing that you haven't had enough of the "Subject" to bother commenting. Although, I'm quite sure that you meant that you've had enough when it comes to listening to the experiences of other people.
Lastly, if you are not worried by now then I doubt that any future update will "wake you up".
I felt the same way, my friend. I did, however, keep playing. Although... I think that this might be DLC Pack that we have both been waiting for.
From what I have heard, Data Miners have found "evidence" of the Negative Zone and Annihilus.
This obviously doesn't prove anything, let alone any additional story but there's still hope. Worst case scenario, if at all true, it'll be something similar to the Danger Room.
Here's hoping that the Third Time will be the Charm.

Man... They really don't make this easy for a Switch customer though. This would've been Day 1 for me, in March 💯

Re: Smash Comp The Big House Cancelled After Cease And Desist From Nintendo
@nessisonett The motive of the cease and desist order has nothing to do with moving a niche group of gamers over to Smash Ultimate.
Ultimate is the best selling game of the entire franchise. It's not at all threatened by the Melee competitive scene.
The cease and desist order was in response to a failure to comply with Nintendo's demand. Nobody is being sued or demonized here.

Re: Feature: Zelda: Majora's Mask At 20 - The Enduring Appeal Of Nintendo's Strangest Game
Very Nice Read 💯
It's not my favorite in the series, but definitely Top 5.
I love the sense of urgency that Majora's Mask brings to it's quest. It can be challenging, but it delivers a real sense of accomplishment after completion.
Re: Feature: Switch Developers Open Up About The Impact Of COVID-19
@Scollurio Truthfully, My Friend...
Re: Feature: Switch Developers Open Up About The Impact Of COVID-19
@datamonkey Understood, and I appreciate the actual numbers.
Not to split hairs with you, but I don't think that anyone was claiming that COVID-19 had already surpassed the Flu death toll for this year.
The original comment was to "wake him up" when the death toll comes "somewhat close...". Obviously, I took issue with that statement. I found it to be very thoughtless and attention seeking.
That being said, I think that the number of reported cases and deaths is already significant enough to be taken seriously.
Re: Feature: Switch Developers Open Up About The Impact Of COVID-19
@datamonkey To my knowledge, it hasn't been a full year yet...
Re: Feature: Switch Developers Open Up About The Impact Of COVID-19
@Scollurio The "Subject" is that people's personal and professional lives are being negatively impacted, not to make you worried/convinced of anything.
Frankly, I find it amusing that you haven't had enough of the "Subject" to bother commenting. Although, I'm quite sure that you meant that you've had enough when it comes to listening to the experiences of other people.
Lastly, if you are not worried by now then I doubt that any future update will "wake you up".
Re: Poll: Which ARMS Fighter Should Join Super Smash Bros. Ultimate?
Never played ARMS... Probably, never will, if I can help it lol
Although, Twintelle definitely gets my Vote 💯
Reminds me of my Wife. I've always been a sucker for long and beautiful Locks 😉
Re: Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3's Fantastic Four DLC Launches On 26th March
@Mathieu_B Agreed 💯
