As has now become tradition, The Game Awards 2020 will have lots more to look forward to than just the awards themselves, as Geoff Keighley teases plenty of world premiere announcements.
The event's producer has confirmed that the show – taking place online on Thursday 10th December at 4pm PT – will feature '12 to 15' game announcements, with all reveals being for games that have not yet been announced in any shape or form. While he stops short of giving anything away, Keighley says that we should expect a mix of AAA and "smaller" titles.
Some games have already been confirmed to be making an appearance during the show – Dragon Age 4, NieR Replicant, It Takes Two, and Crimson Desert – but the 12 to 15 games teased here are in addition to those titles. So, can we expect any new Switch reveals?
Historically, The Game Awards' reveals have been predominantly geared towards Sony and Microsoft's platforms, but last year's event did reveal the existence of Switch-exclusive Bravely Default II, and ex-Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aimé has been confirmed as a presenter. It's possible, then, that some of the announcements made during the show will be relevant to Switch owners.
As for the awards themselves, a full list of nominees can be found right here. Will you be tuning in? Let us know in the comments below.

No interest in watching this garbage to find out what they are so guess I'll just keep an eye out for any interesting news. Not expecting much.
I'll have the show on in the background.
It's usually more fun to watch being restreamed by Vinesauce or something, either Vinny or Vargskelethor.
Metroid Prime 4. That's all I want.
Would be nice if Nintendo announced the Age of Calamity DLC which is bound to happen eventually. Aside from that I'd be surprised if a certain naughty dog game ends up winning Game of the Year.
Probably a Smash character reveal and nothing else from Nintendo. This year has been kind of terrible from a Nintendo perspective as far as I am concerned. Whether Covid is responsible or not... eh.
Need to get myself a bottle of tequila so I can have a shot every time I see rubble, trees or scowling protagonists.
Elden Ring trailer or bust.
And I'm not expecting much to come from Nintendo either.
@MakkaroniOni
Do you mean the ever pervasive problems with DMCA?
Switch Pro with Metroid 4
The anticipation is building like bad constipation. You want it to go away but doing so will be painful and possibly tear you a new one.
Metroid 4 or BOTW 2 would be ideal even if just a sneak peak, although I think they would save the latter for after March. Mario Galaxy 2 could be a curve ball as we are still in the Mario 35th window.
But it will likely be a Smash character.
@MS7000 Agreed, even though it wasn't all bad. I still play Animal Crossing around 3-4 times a week and while I wasn't impressed with Paper Mario when it came out, I recently went back to it and now I'm kind of loving it. I also plan on playing Age of Calamity whenever I'm finished with Cyberpunk 2077, unless Nintendo announces some amazing surprise for the beginning of next year.
@Zidentia very florid description, made me smirk.
Re: game awards, I think I'd be more interested if I felt there were games I hadn't heard of that could win or get nominated. For all the crap the Oscars gets, part of its indie bias means I hear about interesting movies through the nominations I'd never heard of.
I'm predicting something to do with Mother. I refuse to belive that the Hibonichi Mother Project wasn't leading up to to some sort of announcement, wheather that be of ports or remakes.
Also predicting that Marvel vs. Capcom 2 will get a port announced, why would Capcom have planned for it to be at EVO if you couldn't buy the game while supporting them?
Other than those and a Smash reveal, it will probably be garbage.
The GameAwards is just a glorified advert. They focus more on the announcements than the actual giving of awards and recognition. Announcements are great and all but I feel bad for the smaller, indie devs. They just announce the winner and after a split second they turn to the next "ad". It's like awarding them is just an afterthought.
If this is gonna be the same as last year's then yeah...Game Awards integrity gone.
Not to mention how apparent Keighley's arse-kissing on Kojima throughout the event.
Not expecting anything big really. Maybe a Smash reveal or a teaser for something coming up in 2021 for Pokémon's 25th Anniversary? But who knows. 2020 was kind of a really meh year for Nintendo, maybe they'll use the Game Awards to get some early hype for 2021.
@BenAV this garbage? Wow you need real attention ha garbage?
Pretty much the only way to get people to tune in and care. I just wait till its over and read all the announcements.
Sequel to astral chain. I know it's not possible but i hope it is.
all i want to see is breath of the wild 2 and bayonetta 3 ;-;
is that too much to ask? ive waited for more info on them for ages... and they arent even new announcements!
@JokerCK What's the problem with that?
I Hope Nintendo actually has something to announce. Quite astonishing that they literally had nothing to announce last year besides Bravely Default 2.
Death Stranding to win awards two years in a row?
ooh Zora for Smash Zora for smash
Not gonna watch. Award shows are pure cringe.
Keeping my expectations low but I'll keep an eye on news. Some full retail and nice indies would be nice.
Really hope people don’t go into this with expectations from Nintendo.
Smash fighter is all I want. I can wait for a 2021 release date just give me a new fighter
Of course, the awards are rigged for the last of us 2 to win, so I’ll just catch up on the Pokémon anime and hope Nintendo wins best family game
@alexybubble
MVC2 would be great! It's the only reason my PS3 is still around
@MakkaroniOni
That's a real shame, since it's one of the best ways to enjoy the show frankly.
If not him, Joel might be willing, he sometimes does this sort of thing.
Either way, I'll be watching the show in the background even if it's not with streamer commentary.
I'll watch.. but with the expectations very low..
I mean, but they're probably wouldn't be any Nintendo news. And clearly, like everybody else said this thing is rigged to The Last Of Us(Of course, how this game would win with like 64000 people saying it was bad on Metacritic I don't know). I do wish Animal Crossing wins the game of the year, but that probably won't happen.
12 to 15? That means 3 leaked games?!
Hoping for a smash reveal, although that seems to unlikely after we just got Steve. Definitely not watching this though, I have been able to tune into others, but don’t have the time for this one.
Prepare for disappointment...
P.S: about the awards itself nobody really cares
@RupeeClock any kind of these streams, if I watch them live I do it on the spawnwave Chanel.
It's really not worth watching. I'll just grab the news the day after.
Wonder what 3rd party games will be on switch?
If the rumored RE Rev 3 is true, it might get announced at the Game Awards
Nintendo will announce that they have canceled Metroid Prime 4 and that it will be rebooted to Metroid Prime 5.
Side scrolling Metroid by Mercury Steam, Star fox onslaught dog fighting game, F zero battle royale, rainbow six Vegas switchmastered, Super Street fighter IV Arcade Switch joy edition, Dead or Alive Switch, Ridge Racer legends, Burnout collection, Tekken tag 3, Timesplitters HD collection, Soul Calibur Collection (1-5). Any of these.
Fingers cross for a smash trailer I'm hoping for sora, rayman, crash, or doom guy.
Also 95% sure we'll get a new MH Rise trailer out of it! They had confirmed that there will be another trailer before the year is up, and this makes a lot of sense.
After the fact that the show was pretty much 90% ADs last year I am NOT going to watch it this year. I really was heavily disappointed by the show last year.
i gonna watch the entire TGA 2020, tommorow at 4pm(here in Brazil at 9pm, with low expectation), not expecting a trailer for Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild 2, gameplay trailer for Bayonetta 3 or a Super Smash Bros Ultimate Fighter Pass vol.2 reveal, expect all this everyone in march or at E3 2021.
i remembered that all this 13/15 game anouncement that Geoff Kingleigly is hyping us, turn down to a lot of people, very disapointing game anouncements, they expected a triple AAA game and have severals Bugsy like anouncement, something tell me, this is happen again tommorow.
Smash Fighter reveal will be original Fortnite characters (female/male) then Samus revealed for Fortnite then cut scene which then shows off M Trilogy and as it ended the M4 logo pulses 3 times from bright to dark
(Potentially the Trilogy will be dropped when its revealed......Merry Xmas from the BIG N)
The expectations for Nintendo up in space now. They not only have to avoid last year's mistakes with the lack of announcements, but they also need to somehow get their fans back, because they really screwed themselves over this whole year, from lack of main Directs to throwing unethical C&Ds everywhere, even if they think it makes their PR look more professional.
Every year he promises the same thing and doesn’t deliver. I’m hoping this year Keighly has taken the feedback to heart and secured some decent reveals. Give us a switch pro, give us chief and samus in fortnite, give us a botw 2 trailer. Make this show the must watch gaming event of the year. It’s been too many years of awkward interviews and stage performances that are lacking.
@RickD good point. Probably not. I’m thinking Metroid Collection digital only and Samus in Fortnite if we’re lucky. But that’s like a 0.1% chance.
I won't be watching the show, but I'll read whatever news from the show, that catches my interest on here.
@MS7000 Yeah the Super Mario 35th did not help at all. I was so disappointed.
@Lony85 Facts last year's was trash.
If there is a Smash reveal...
I'm betting its
MONSTER HUNTER
DMC
OVERWATCH
CRASH
SORA
or
NOTHING
@fabiotc
What a weird thing to ask for. Why do you want a gba game on switch?
Knowing Nintendo, we won't get much or anything at all really. Honestly I just want a new Monster Hunter Rise trailer.
I'm thinking that we'll definitely get another Smash reveal... I'm hoping for a good one.
I'd like to see at least some kinda update on: Bayonetta 3, Metroid Prime 4, and BOTW2. I'm really doubtful about BOTW2, since Age of Calamity just came out, but that's really what I'm hoping for.
Lastly, I would love to see another console added to NSO.
@BenAV why are people so endlessly negative? You only make the world a worse place when you do this.
Nintendo has given less and less reveals to the game awards each year. I'm expecting them to announce a something like a free update to Clubhouse Games: 51 classics that'll add a new card game
@Grayson_ I read your comment as soon as I posted mine lol. You're so right though! Getting hyped is why we're on Nintendolife. Nothing wrong with hoping for the best!
@Grayson_ If voicing my opinions makes the world a worse place then that's fine by me.
Super pumped to tune in. I'm thinking nintendo will show up with 2 new titles exclusive and a trailer for botw2.
@Giancarlothomaz @bimmy-lee @hobbitgamer this will or will not happen. Probably will though. Do or do not keep expectations in check. Will be a big night for gaems that's for much not sure.
I so want Animal Crossing New Horizons to win Game Of The Year, but fear it is to ‘family friendly’. It really has been the most engaging game in these ‘unprecedented ‘ times.
GO ACNH!
Odyssey 2! Odyssey 2! Odyssey 2! Odyssey 2! Odyssey 2! Odyssey 2! Odyssey 2! Odyssey 2! Odyssey 2! Odyssey 2! Odyssey 2! Odyssey 2! Odyssey 2! Odyssey 2! Odyssey 2! Odyssey 2! Odyssey 2! Odyssey 2! Odyssey 2! Odyssey 2! Odyssey 2! Odyssey 2! Odyssey 2! Odyssey 2! Odyssey 2! Odyssey 2! Odyssey 2! Odyssey 2! Odyssey 2! Odyssey 2!
I'm hoping for Bayonetta 3 to make an appearance. That game has been AWOL for a while, and I get the feeling it's close to completion, assuming that there were no roadblocks we haven't heard about. Maybe something for No More Heroes 3? It was listed for 2020 not too long ago, so it can't far off from completion either.
I'm not too hopeful for BotW 2 showing up, Pikmin 4's is Schrodinger's game announcement, and any other guessing is just going to be a shot in the dark. I'm honestly more concerned about tradition Directs returning, but there's no way Nintendo would shove too much news onto the Game Awards. We'll see.
Its probably not likely but I’d love a tony hawk 1&2 shadow drop.
@BenAV endless negativity is toxic. Think before you post.
@Grayson_ You're the one being toxic.
