Update: If you're still yet to pick up DOOM Eternal on Switch, consider this a friendly reminder that you may want to do so pretty sharpish.
This weekend will be your final chance to claim a digital copy of DOOM 64 and the DOOM Eternal: Rip and Tear Pack by purchasing the game early. You have until 22nd December to take advantage of the offer – full details can be found below, and our full review of the game can be found here.
Original Article (Mon 30th Nov, 2020 16:30 GMT): If you choose to pick up DOOM Eternal within its first couple of weeks on sale on Switch, you'll be treated to an early purchase bonus.
Nintendo has revealed that players who buy DOOM Eternal before 22nd December (it launches on 8th December), will receive a digital copy of DOOM 64 on Switch and the DOOM Eternal: Rip and Tear Pack. At the time of writing, this bonus has only been confirmed for players in Europe.
Here's what that Rip and Tear Pack contains:
- DOOT Revenant Skin: a premium player demon skin for use in BATTLEMODE
- Cultist Base Master Level: a remixed version of the campaign level with new challenges, combat encounters, and surprises
- Throwback Shotgun Weapon Skin: bring DOOM's classic shotgun to bear on DOOM Eternal's demon hordes
If you missed it earlier today, we published an interview with port wizards Panic Button, the studio responsible for getting DOOM Eternal running on Nintendo's hybrid machine. It's worth a read if we do say so ourselves, so feel free to check that out.
Will you be returning to Hell on 8th December? Will you be buying the game early to grab this bonus content? Let us know with a comment.

Would be nice if this came to the US. I'm not expecting it, though. lol
I bought Doom 64 early. Do I get Doom Eternal and the Rip and Tear Pack for free? Only fair...
I've played and loved all of the 5 Doom's on Switch, for countless hours and I think Doom 64 might just be my favourite of them all.I played it to completion over the course of a week. It's a superbly designed game and feels amazing to control.
What if we bought Doom Eternal in March, is that early enough to qualify for these?
But.... How much??? Are they going to screw us with a full retail price?
Am I wrong for not liking 2016 and Eternal for them feeling more like superhero action (complete with BS long lore) than horror shoot-em ups like the originals?
I won't be buying this game on Switch despite wanting it. I already own Doom 64.
If I don't get a physical copy, then I might as well play it for 'free' on Gamepass. Saves me £50.
Put the card in the N64, flip the switch and go!
On the Switch first download a lot of GB's, will take hours, then hit it and pla... register for an account, accept terms&conditions, etc. How much of gameplay postponing corporate BS are we getting in the future? Will they ask for my medical report to not be held responsible if I'm getting a seizure.
I'm a huge doom fan and consider myself exactly the target market. The problem is I wanted this in March, including this pre-order that I heard about back then. Since March, I bought doom 64 and have watched the price of Eternal be reduced on all other platforms. Now you want me to pay full price for a late game with reduced graphics and a pre-order bonus I already paid for? Tough sell. I think I'll just wait it out or get it elsewhere for far less.
The classic shotgun is a lie and a half.
Got Doom 64 on the N64, got it on the PC with Doom Eternal, bought it on the Switch Eshop aaaand ordered it from Limited Run Games, i have enough Doom 64
I want some original Doom on physical Media.
Got non and love it :>
I have been waiting a while for Doom Eternal, but seeing the price and how "late" it has arrived is just disappointing. Will wait until it is on sale I am afraid. Thank you Panic button for porting it, regardless.
Early purchase bonus 😂😂😂 I bought Doom 64 months ago, oh and Doom Eternal funnily enough
Doom Eternal on Xbox One and PS4 is currently £16.99 on Amazon for a physical copy. That copy also nets you a next gen upgrade. Doom Eternal on Switch is currently £49.99 on the eshop for a digital only copy. That copy doesn't net you a next gen upgrade. I don't like telling people how to spend their money, but......y'know.
@Jakiboy no you're not 😃
I got into the series after 2016 hit, so for me DOOM has always been a gory power trip where the demons are afraid of the Slayer, and it was very surprising to me to find out 3 is an entirely different beast and that the original vision for 1&2 was probably more akin to 3 than 2016.
That said, I can totally get why you'd be disappointed in such a drastic difference, although I personally am glad with what they went for.
I also like tense FPS like Metro, for example, but those have existed for a long time, while the "modern shooter with 90's sensibility" is something very recent and rare.
@OorWullie yeah 64 is freaking amazing, definitely my favorite classic DOOM, although I love 'em all for one reason or another (aside from 3, I have it on Switch but have yet to play it).
Too little too late.........played it to death on my Xbox One X, and now running through the DLC on my Series X.
Great game, but unfortunately took too long to get to switch. Looks like a very competent port tough.
It would've been nice if they gave you a little discount instead if you already bought Doom 64
Personally, I'm just waiting for the Series X upgrade at this point - I waited this long, I can hold out a little longer.
I wonder what this version has that the Xbox and PS4 doesn’t. Like resident evil has motion control
Wonder if you buy the retail version, if you will be required to download a large chunk of the game i.e. BioShock to actually play it?
NOTE: Just seen the article that it's digital only.
@IronMan30 Looks like it’s coming to U.S. as well:

Well, that takes the sting out of paying AU$80 for a download-only late port... right?
Doom 64 has been on sale for, like, $1.50 lately lol
Was so excited for the physical version! I had bought DOOM 2016 on cartridge and plugged 35+ hours into it. Loved it (traded it in after beating it) and couldn't wait for DOOM Eternal but if it's digital, I'll just grab it on a next gen console sometime next year since I wanted the cart. Super bummed but I'm sure it will still run amazingly well for the Switch!
@rhaydeo I just bought DOOM 64 during the Black Friday sale, less than 48 hours ago. Wish ID and Bethesda told us about the release date a while back, agree with your points exactly
If you buy it on any other platform physically it comes with a next gen upgrade included. On switch it's incredibly late, is two times (if not 3) worse than the available versions and STILL costs 60$ while any other version is far cheaper.
And after that publishers wonder why people don't buy these as much as on the other platforms.
Yeah, as usual it's nintendo fans that get shafted the most. So much for it being a day and date release eh?
Yeah I'm good still waiting on my physical of doom 64 to arrive.
If its not physical... then its not a sale... i even traded doom on switch for something else. You lost me on both games.
No physical no buy.
Next please.
@rhaydeo my thoughts exactly. The excitement i had in march has wilted by this point. Are they going to refund me my doom64 purchase? Didn't think so! I'll wait it out for that physical release too and save the 19gb
@fox_mattcloud damn that makes me hate this news even more
This deal would had been fantastic if Doom 64 remastered wasn't a multiplat and remain a Switch exclusive.
Unfortunately I’ll have to wait for a sale or some kind soul to release a limited physical edition. It’s way absurd to pay the full price of ¥8,900 for a digital only game. That’s crazy. The physical version would be okay, but digital? No way...
@spider-manatee well, that's great news.
It's tough not to agree with the majority of comment section here. So many great reasons NOT to buy...
But... I was holding out for the Switch version anyway: Doom on the go speaks for itself, and I REALLY respect the geniuses over at Panic Button.
Man... They really don't make this easy for a Switch customer though. This would've been Day 1 for me, in March 💯
It's nine months late, digital only, full price, without DLC included? 😬
The rightful thing for Bethesda to do after straight up cancelling the physical releases, especially the Deluxe Edition.
I still want hat alternate cover art but I guess this is what we have to put up with for choosing portability.
So what we pay full Physical price for Digital only? What a load of crouch.....
@rhaydeo exactly the same. I ended up picking up a few weeks ago for the PS4 after no updates from nintendo and for £15 why would I pay £60. Happy to support third party but not when delayed like this and we are ripped off. A physical cart maybe but not download. Very poor!
No physical release than no buy from me. I love looking at my big pile of Switch cases lol. Hellblade, Outlast, and Cuphead are my only digital games that I flat out purchased without hesitation lol.
If you buy this and already own Doom 64, can you give the download code for Doom 64 to a friend? Or am I given a useless discount or redundant auto-download? Also, if I wait for a sale, will I miss the Rip and Tear pack completely or can it be bought later?
@VR32X
On the PC at least it was possible to buy it afterwards.
Bought Doom 64 months ago.
Not paying full retail price when it is free on other consoles and I gave already paid for the free gift
Just to put it into perspective. I bought DOOM 2016 & DOOM Eternal on ps4 for less than £20 for both. I bought DOOM 2016 on switch at launch, whilst on holiday in florida, for $60. I had DOOM Eternal preordered (physical)for switch in March for £38. Now if I want it on Switch I have to pay £50. So £20 for both games on ps4 or over £100 to get them both on Switch. That's got to be the perfect example of the Switch tax we all know
@PlayedNSlayed
What i feel what the bigger Problem is, that even discounted the Games are mostly more expansive than on other Systems.
Because they like using Percentages, i use them also the other way around:
A older Capcom Game from the PS3 Era on Steam for 8€ discounted.
On the Switch with Discount 16€, so you are paying 100% more.
Doom 1, 2 and 64 are good Examples for Releasing older Titles for a good Price.
I also understand that there was a really big Effort when porting Doom 16 and Eternal to the Switch and that they can't sell it cheap on the Beginning.
But cut it down after a while, especially Games from older Generations that didn't need so much Effort (hello Capcom again).
Let it be a couple of Euros, but not 60-100% more.
Also Nintendo is Cheap in those Cases, selling Wii U Games that they selled for 40€ back than now for 60.
Bought it last night, great purchase IMO...love it!
So painful to see that the game isn’t in the top sales charts... the delay and no physical did hurt the sales I think.
How do I redeem the Doom 64 content...I got the rip and tear extras but I don't see where I get the doom 64
Hmm. I haven't grabbed Doom 64 yet so this may be the time to do it.
What's the Rip and Tear Pack?
@OorWullie certainly, of the classic DOOM games, 64 is the best. I also got it when it launched this year, and I have to say I was impressed with its quality.
@purpleibby they sent a code for DOOM 64 to your email address.
@Friendly painful but expected.
The long delay
The radio silence
The last minute killing physical
Charging £50 while it's below £20 on other hardware that looks much better.
It's almost as if they did everything they could to make sure the game fails.
I got DOOM 64 when it came out, I gave the code to a friend. We need to spread joy this holiday season hehehe. I hope more people get Doom Eternal on Switch. Such a fantastic game.
i rather wait till a physical copy of doom eternal comes out then buying digital version plus bethesda needs to learn a hard lesson to not screw over gamers who prefer the game to be on a cartridge so hope the low sales prove our point.
already did and it is a good time
@Edu23XWiiU I registered through the switch and got all of the rip and tear stuff through the doom "you got stuff" thing...but Bethesda did not send me an email with the Doom 64 code...only email I got was to verify email....no code was in it....it's not working for me:( Thank you for replying
@OorWullie hello sir, have you got Eternal on Switch? Very interested in your opinion if so! I have every DOOM available on bar Eternal... which I was super excited for, but that has been ever so slightly eroded with the situation on Switch... still 100% getting it though. DOOM 64 is amazing I’m was genuinely surprised at just how good it is. Think my favourite is 2016 though, at a push.
@Jakiboy so they are like the Original games. Doom 3 is more the one that sticks out as Resident Evil influence version.
My favorite holiday game right now.
@purpleibby no worries man! Contact some support, because, I even got the code after I purchased the game on my Switch and the gave me the details of what I got
Make a physical copy, then we'll talk.
£50 Though 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 it’s a third of that on the other consoles. I’ll happily wait for a huge price-cut (although weirdly I’d have paid £50 for a physical if the whole thing was on a cart)
@AmplifyMJ Hey pal, sorry for late reply.
I haven't bought it yet as like you, my interest in the Switch version has slightly eroded. I still really want to play it though. I had been thinking of getting an Xbox Series S and Gamepass and playing it that way. I'm not so sure about that now either, I don't really want to have two consoles, one is more than enough.
If I do end up getting it for Switch, I'll let you know.
Merry Xmas to you and your family.
@OorWullie good man thank you, have a lovely Christmas
