Nintendo of America has sent out a press release about its record sales in the United States last month.

According to NPD data, October 2020 sales for the Switch are the "second-highest October sales of any video game console in history" within this region.

The system shifted more than 735,000 units between the Switch and Switch Lite - that's growth of 136% compared to the same month of the previous year.

Here's what Nintendo of America president, Doug Bowser, had to say about this milestone:

“Seeing encouraging sales growth like this in the fourth October of Nintendo Switch proves to us that the system has many more years and great games yet to come.”

The Nintendo Wii still holds the record for the month of October, with 807,000 units sold back in 2008.

This latest sales record for Switch also continues its streak as the best-selling video game console for 23 consecutive months (the most months in a row for any console since NPD began tracking sales numbers).

NPD data reveals the Switch has now sold more than 22.5 million units in the US to date, and according to the latest Nintendo figures as of September this year, it's had 68.30 million sales worldwide.
