Re: Bethesda's Future Games Will Be "Where Game Pass Exists"

uncleMike

@SpaceboyScreams I have my moments, I guess...

Not trying to spoil anyone's fun, I just didn't like the article and bothered to comment.

The title is factual, but it's so misleading once you read the actual context. Obviously, future Bethesda games will only be available via X-Box/Game Pass. Although, this doesn't negatively impact any other platforms right now. All previous contracts are secure.

This won't impact Nintendo any time soon, and may have never had any significant impact at all.

Re: Nintendo Plugs Skyward Sword HD With "Elements" Later Adopted In Zelda: Breath Of The Wild

uncleMike

I think that either I've misread you or vice versa, because we cannot be talking about the same game... Skyward Sword does not allow you to complete dungeons in any order. The game follows a very linear script that you are unable to deviate from. Even a majority of the backtracking is linear.

Oh, the game breaking glitch never happened to me either, but it is common knowledge:
https://www.ign.com/articles/2011/12/06/game-breaking-glitch-in-zelda-skyward-sword
Thankfully, it's been fixed.

Also, ALBW still granted you unique items in the dungeons. The item rental system just allowed you to access your dungeon of choice. It was very well done, if you ask me.

Lastly, I agree with what you said about the "same old Ganon". Imo, Nintendo missed a huge opportunity by not making Princess Hilda the main villain of ALBW. I thought that she would have been a great reoccurring antagonist, alongside Vaati and Ganon.

Re: Nintendo Plugs Skyward Sword HD With "Elements" Later Adopted In Zelda: Breath Of The Wild

uncleMike

@RadioHedgeFund "Zelda 1 is basically the map on super mario bros with a few enemies on it..."

Sorry, but I have to jump in here. That statement alone tells me that you have no idea what you're even talking about. Those games are nothing alike.

As for A Link Between Worlds, exactly how does choosing the order of the dungeons make things boring? You can literally play the game differently each time. In Skyward Sword the game would crash if things weren't done in an exact order. Do you somehow consider that to be less boring? That make no sense either.

Being able to tackle dungeons in any order was a direct response to the criticism of Skyward Sword being too linear. You can argue that any Zelda game is "just one big dungeon", but at least with A Link Between Worlds it doesn't have to be played the exact same way each time. If anything, the pacing is so terrible that Skyward Sword feels closer to one big fetch quest (complete with forced hand holding, stealth missions, and backtracking).

Re: Nintendo Plugs Skyward Sword HD With "Elements" Later Adopted In Zelda: Breath Of The Wild

uncleMike

They should be talking more about the custom Joy-Con and new control scheme, but stay away from statements like this. Anyone who has played both games can immediately tell you how bogus this sounds.

SS the most linear game in the entire series. BotW is the least linear game the entire series. No upgraded gear, stamina gauge, or sailcloth makes these two games anything alike. Also, the Paraglider owes it's inspiration to the Deku Leaf, imo.

Re: Feature: A Link To The Past's Dark World Changed Zelda Forever

uncleMike

@BloodNinja LMAO @ ALttP is "just another sword game"... I can only imagine how they felt about the countless platformers that ruled the 90's.

I am curious though, what were the more popular games of your childhood circle? They remind me of the "elitist group" of RPG-Only kids in my grade school, when I was younger.

Re: Soapbox: The Modern Games Industry Has A Hype Problem, And It Needs To Stop

uncleMike

@tkdboy1889 I agree that we share blame for determining if a game is a masterpiece, but not for the hype. I especially belief this in the case of Bayo 3.

Bayo 2 launched in 2014. It's fair to assume that nobody would be expecting any announcements for Bayo 3, if it was not announced by Nintendo in late 2017. Truthfully, I thought that the series was done for after Bayo 2.

I enjoy the excitement of future releases as much as next guy, but that's been over 3 years ago. We have had absolutely no updates since (only responses). I hate to be "this person" but from a marketing standpoint that borderlines on being completely irresponsible and unprofessional. What was the point even announcing this game, knowing that you would have absolutely nothing else to say for 3 years?

Either something went terribly wrong in development or this is just World Class Hype at it's finest 💯

Re: Soapbox: The Modern Games Industry Has A Hype Problem, And It Needs To Stop

uncleMike

I think that you pretty much have to give MP4 a Pass... Nintendo admitted that they hit the reset button on this project years ago. It was announced way too early, this was addressed, and apologies were made 💯

BOTW2... I was disappointed, but again, you have to give them a Pass: we've seen some footage of the actual game (not a lot, but something), Aonuma stated that there was nothing new to show (it was last minute AF lol, but still... He acknowledged it wasn't Ready to be shown), and we were given SS as a peace offering. I don't intend to buy SS, but it's here for others to enjoy 💯

Bayonetta 3... Wow... Where the hell is this game? We're beyond a "hype problem" with this one. Obviously, this game was announced way too soon but the follow-up has been terrible. We have literally spent years going from: Title reveal... The game is progressing well/as expected x3, to "just forget about the game, until we have something to show". No offense, but I just can't believe that a Bayonetta game is taking this long to show. Unless this is just some MASSIVE upgrade to the series that will be an immediate GOTY contender, there is no way Nintendo is forcing Kamiya to be this tight lipped.

Bayonetta 3 is the Perfect example of how these things spiral out of control. After all of this time, they won't be able to present a regular game. Anything other than a masterpiece will be doomed to disappointment.

Re: Soapbox: Zelda: Skyward Sword Is Good, Actually

uncleMike

I thought that the motion controls were the best part of SS. The dungeon designs were also very well done. Other than that, the pacing made it feel like such a chore to complete. The padding in this game is just brutal, imo.

But yeah... Back to the controls (which I actually liked). People literally bashed the hell out of this game for it's motion controls on the Wii. It's going to be very interesting to see what they'll say this time.

Lastly, the alternative control scheme using the analogue stick is clever. I'm a bit skeptical, but it shows effort on Nintendo's part. I'm also very curious to see how well this will be received, when SS launches.

Re: Zelda: Skyward Sword HD Hits Switch This July Alongside Themed Joy-Con

uncleMike

I played this to 100% completion on the Wii, and still don't have the desire to ever replay it... Bad combination of being too linear with way too much padding. Although, the gameplay and dungeons make it enjoyable enough. I'd still recommend it, if you're absolutely starving for more Zelda, right now.

I'm gonna hold out for a OoT/MM Grezzo port or ALBW HD, until BOTW 2.

Re: Nintendo's Success With Switch Made Reggie's Retirement Decision "Easy"

uncleMike

@jamesthemagi He literally answers your question in this statement lol.

Also, you act as if Reggie is on Twitter or some sort of comment section like you and I. He's not, FYI. They're reaching out to him, it's not the other way around. Furthermore, he's not even being paid to make any of these statements... Seems pretty genuine to me.

Re: Ubisoft To Focus More On Free-To-Play Experiences Moving Forward

uncleMike

I don't play Ubisoft games or F2P, but I wanted to chime in. The title is a little misleading...

Their focus isn't F2P (alongside AAA in small print lol). The focus is 3-4 AAA titles and a strong back catalog dynamic complimented by F2P, for the 2022 fiscal year.

They're a business attempting to diversify their strategy moving forward. I'm not really much of a Ubi fan and I never have been. Although, as the top third party developer for the Nintendo Switch, I wish them well.

Re: As Switch Hits The "Middle Of Its Life Cycle", Nintendo Is Confident It Will Overtake The Wii

uncleMike

With the right software, the Switch has a very good chance to pass the DS. In this final half of the lifecycle, I would release:

Wii Sports Deluxe
Wii Fit Deluxe
Zelda Anniversary Collection 3D
Zelda Anniversary Collection 2D
BOTW 2
Metroid Prime 4
Metroid Prime Trilogy
Bayonetta 3
Mario Kart 9
Another Pokemon Game

With right combination of heavy hitters, the Switch could reign as Nintendo's undisputed best console ever.

Also, probably do a price drop sometime within the last year.

Re: Rumour: Updated Art In New Fire Emblem Trailer Sparks Hope For Three Houses News

uncleMike

I'm hoping for more DLC. I really enjoyed the Ashen Wolves campaign, and always assumed that there would be more DLC by now.

Other than that, I probably would buy a sequel but it's too soon imo. Also, I would prefer a completely different cast for a new game. This is usually the standard with Fire Emblem.

Lastly, please don't make a FE3H Warriors game lol. I admit that it's a good enough entry for consideration, but it's definitely not my favorite genre.

Re: Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury Leaked Online A Week Before Launch

uncleMike

@Highlar It's not just Nintendo. I don't know if you're familiar with The Last of Us 2, but that got leaked early. If I'm not mistaken, Cyberpunk did too... It's just the world that we live in and it can happen in a number of different ways that have little to do with internal security (i.e. a small retailer may actually sell the product before the actual release.).

It definitely sucks though... You pretty much have to go off the grid for a spoiler free experience nowadays.

Re: Talking Point: So, What Are The Chances We'll See A 'New' Nintendo Switch In 2021?

uncleMike

This is about 50/50 on a Gamer website. I can only imagine how lopsided these numbers would be for casual consumers. The Christmas holiday was not even 2 months prior, and Nintendo would have a lot of pissed off brand new consumers.

Look, I just don't see this happening this year... or next year lol.

Guys, the Switch is on pace to outsell the Wii. That's not an easy task. Furthermore, nobody predicted this (especially after the disappointing sales of the WiiU). The Switch Lite only happened because it is cheaper. That's all, it really is that simple. This Gen's Killer Apps are Mario Kart and Animal Crossing. Nothing else has come close. There's no reason to upgrade mid-gen. Nintendo doesn't care about competing with Microsoft or Sony. Frankly, they've been proven to perform better when they don't. Third party developers care much more about install base than raw power, imo.

Lastly, Nintendo should nurture and grow this base: Fix the damn joy-con issue, improve the NSO features, and keep delivering on first party software.

Switch 2... Probably Holiday 2023, would be my guess.

Re: Monster Hunter Rise Is Getting Its Very Own Pro Controller For Nintendo Switch

uncleMike

@Heavyarms55 Agreed, I don't think that this will be a trend for Nintendo anymore, with the Pro controller. I actually think that the Switch Lite has more to do with that, rather than the Pandemic. This is just a perfect fit and a very low risk business move.

Monster Hunter will sell like crazy, and Nintendo thinks that the majority of players will prefer the Pro. The latter is much more interesting because the series has appeared on both home and handheld consoles. I wonder, can Nintendo use the Demo to see which controller is being used?

Re: Video: Here's What The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time 3D Could Potentially Look Like On Switch

uncleMike

Day One for me on Switch, just like 3DS. Although, I would prefer a bundle with Majora's Mask.

Unfortunately, 3D Zelda just isn't the same for me, after Breath of the Wild. The freedom of exploration is so beyond comparison that it just feels odd to play any other 3D Zelda game.

How about The Legend of Zelda, A Link to the Past, or A Link Between Worlds remake/remaster?

Re: The Switch Has Been The Top Console In The US For 25 Months In A Row

uncleMike

Yeah... This is why a Switch Pro launching anytime soon makes no sense, to me.

Nintendo hasn't seen numbers like this in a very long time. They obviously have a winning formula with the Switch, a large share of the market, and a ton of momentum heading into 2021. Why would they ever risk this to compete with the companies that are trailing behind them?
