Re: Nintendo's Success With Switch Made Reggie's Retirement Decision "Easy"

uncleMike

@jamesthemagi He literally answers your question in this statement lol.

Also, you act as if Reggie is on Twitter or some sort of comment section like you and I. He's not, FYI. They're reaching out to him, it's not the other way around. Furthermore, he's not even being paid to make any of these statements... Seems pretty genuine to me.

Re: Ubisoft To Focus More On Free-To-Play Experiences Moving Forward

uncleMike

I don't play Ubisoft games or F2P, but I wanted to chime in. The title is a little misleading...

Their focus isn't F2P (alongside AAA in small print lol). The focus is 3-4 AAA titles and a strong back catalog dynamic complimented by F2P, for the 2022 fiscal year.

They're a business attempting to diversify their strategy moving forward. I'm not really much of a Ubi fan and I never have been. Although, as the top third party developer for the Nintendo Switch, I wish them well.

Re: As Switch Hits The "Middle Of Its Life Cycle", Nintendo Is Confident It Will Overtake The Wii

uncleMike

With the right software, the Switch has a very good chance to pass the DS. In this final half of the lifecycle, I would release:

Wii Sports Deluxe
Wii Fit Deluxe
Zelda Anniversary Collection 3D
Zelda Anniversary Collection 2D
BOTW 2
Metroid Prime 4
Metroid Prime Trilogy
Bayonetta 3
Mario Kart 9
Another Pokemon Game

With right combination of heavy hitters, the Switch could reign as Nintendo's undisputed best console ever.

Also, probably do a price drop sometime within the last year.

Re: Rumour: Updated Art In New Fire Emblem Trailer Sparks Hope For Three Houses News

uncleMike

I'm hoping for more DLC. I really enjoyed the Ashen Wolves campaign, and always assumed that there would be more DLC by now.

Other than that, I probably would buy a sequel but it's too soon imo. Also, I would prefer a completely different cast for a new game. This is usually the standard with Fire Emblem.

Lastly, please don't make a FE3H Warriors game lol. I admit that it's a good enough entry for consideration, but it's definitely not my favorite genre.

Re: Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury Leaked Online A Week Before Launch

uncleMike

@Highlar It's not just Nintendo. I don't know if you're familiar with The Last of Us 2, but that got leaked early. If I'm not mistaken, Cyberpunk did too... It's just the world that we live in and it can happen in a number of different ways that have little to do with internal security (i.e. a small retailer may actually sell the product before the actual release.).

It definitely sucks though... You pretty much have to go off the grid for a spoiler free experience nowadays.

Re: Talking Point: So, What Are The Chances We'll See A 'New' Nintendo Switch In 2021?

uncleMike

This is about 50/50 on a Gamer website. I can only imagine how lopsided these numbers would be for casual consumers. The Christmas holiday was not even 2 months prior, and Nintendo would have a lot of pissed off brand new consumers.

Look, I just don't see this happening this year... or next year lol.

Guys, the Switch is on pace to outsell the Wii. That's not an easy task. Furthermore, nobody predicted this (especially after the disappointing sales of the WiiU). The Switch Lite only happened because it is cheaper. That's all, it really is that simple. This Gen's Killer Apps are Mario Kart and Animal Crossing. Nothing else has come close. There's no reason to upgrade mid-gen. Nintendo doesn't care about competing with Microsoft or Sony. Frankly, they've been proven to perform better when they don't. Third party developers care much more about install base than raw power, imo.

Lastly, Nintendo should nurture and grow this base: Fix the damn joy-con issue, improve the NSO features, and keep delivering on first party software.

Switch 2... Probably Holiday 2023, would be my guess.

Re: Monster Hunter Rise Is Getting Its Very Own Pro Controller For Nintendo Switch

uncleMike

@Heavyarms55 Agreed, I don't think that this will be a trend for Nintendo anymore, with the Pro controller. I actually think that the Switch Lite has more to do with that, rather than the Pandemic. This is just a perfect fit and a very low risk business move.

Monster Hunter will sell like crazy, and Nintendo thinks that the majority of players will prefer the Pro. The latter is much more interesting because the series has appeared on both home and handheld consoles. I wonder, can Nintendo use the Demo to see which controller is being used?

Re: Video: Here's What The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time 3D Could Potentially Look Like On Switch

uncleMike

Day One for me on Switch, just like 3DS. Although, I would prefer a bundle with Majora's Mask.

Unfortunately, 3D Zelda just isn't the same for me, after Breath of the Wild. The freedom of exploration is so beyond comparison that it just feels odd to play any other 3D Zelda game.

How about The Legend of Zelda, A Link to the Past, or A Link Between Worlds remake/remaster?

Re: The Switch Has Been The Top Console In The US For 25 Months In A Row

uncleMike

Yeah... This is why a Switch Pro launching anytime soon makes no sense, to me.

Nintendo hasn't seen numbers like this in a very long time. They obviously have a winning formula with the Switch, a large share of the market, and a ton of momentum heading into 2021. Why would they ever risk this to compete with the companies that are trailing behind them?

Re: Take A Look At This Neat Visualisation Of Nintendo's Console Sales

uncleMike

The Switch is such a Beast. In hindsight, it was the perfect business move for Nintendo.

This chart visualizes how the handheld market has been Nintendo's saving grace for the past two decades. From what I can see here, the only home console that has even come close to handheld numbers was the Wii.

This is why the concept of a "TV only Switch Pro" just doesn't make sense for Nintendo. They have had a stranglehold on the handheld market for decades, and it's been their financial life blood (especially during the times of under performing home consoles).

Re: Hideki Kamiya Says Bayonetta 3's Development Is "Going Very Well"

uncleMike

I wonder what verification of new systems mean, I'm not a tech guy.

Anyways, I was expecting to see something at the VGAs. I am not gonna panic just yet though. I'm thinking this game will hit October 2021 (around Halloween).

I'm hoping that they're playing it very strategic with all of the info. Perhaps there's something to show, but Platinum didn't want to be overshadowed by the next gen consoles launching.

Re: Fortnite Adds Free 'Wakanda Forever' Emote

uncleMike

@nessisonett OMG I just saw Ma Rainey's Black Bottom this weekend!!!

You could see how sick Chad was. He looked so skinny compared to his other roles... Very sad to see 💯

Great movie though. He definitely stole the show from Viola Davis (who was also very good).

Re: Random: Disgruntled Fans Spam Nintendo Tweet In Response To YouTube Soundtrack Takedowns

uncleMike

@iLikeUrAttitude It's not Anti-Consumer because you're not paying Youtube or Nintendo to listen to the music. Also, please keep in mind, that you are claiming a moral high ground on the foundation of property that doesn't belong to you.

Just because you think that you know how to use someone else's property better than they can, does not give you the right to proceed without consequence.

Lastly, I think that the whole situation sucks. There was a time when all of this media was extremely easy to find. Those times were a privilege, not a reward for loving Nintendo. There are so many other avenues available to people to deal with this challenge, other than what's being reported in the article.

Re: Random: Disgruntled Fans Spam Nintendo Tweet In Response To YouTube Soundtrack Takedowns

uncleMike

@iLikeUrAttitude From what I've read, nobody is "defending" Nintendo. You have one side that is acknowledging the legality of Nintendo's actions. The other side is trying to justify Trolling, and resulting to childish name-calling (i.e. Fanboy and Corporate Shill).

Nobody is saying that they WANT Nintendo to do this, but only that legally they have every right to do so. It sucks that it is playing out this way, however, is it really that much of a surprise? Nintendo has always been overly protective of their Ips, for better or for worse.

Re: Video: Tennis Legend Serena Williams Stars In Nintendo's Latest Round Of Switch TV Spots

uncleMike

@BoyfriendOfDeath I agree that any business would obviously weigh the backlash of any celebrity endorsement. That's just common sense 💯

I'm also certain that Nintendo of America weighed the backlash when selecting Serena as well. Here's the thing, they more than likely look beyond internet comment sections when making the determination lol (we don't represent the vast majority of their target audience, obviously).

Also, I'm sure that they consider Serena far less risky than Trump or Louis CK... But if you disagree then that's okay too, ya know?

Re: Video: Tennis Legend Serena Williams Stars In Nintendo's Latest Round Of Switch TV Spots

uncleMike

@BoyfriendOfDeath In all fairness, anyone that is considered "high profile" or a celebrity is gonna be considered controversial to at least someone... You can't really have it both ways. As a business: you pick "your poison", do your best, and sell your product.

When you live under the microscope there will be at least one or two things that you've said that someone won't agree with.

Do we really need purity test to market a product?

Re: Random: Metroid's Samus Trends On Twitter As Fans Speculate Over Potential Fortnite Crossover

uncleMike

I don't see this happening...

Nintendo is much too protective of their IPs. Also, and I hate to be "this guy", Samus really isn't that popular outside of the Nintendo hardcore. Not counting of the 3DS Samus Returns remake, I think that the last metroid game was Other M on the Wii. Even Metroid Prime 3 wasn't a big seller.

So... Not only do I not see Nintendo doing this, but I also don't see this generating much income for Fortnite. To everyone claiming that this would be a great fit, I just don't see it.

Sorry Samus.

Re: DOOM Eternal Switch FAQ Addresses Gyro Controls, Multiplayer, DLC And More

uncleMike

Wait... Is there going to be traditional Online Multiplayer like Doom 2016? Or is Doom Eternal only limited to the asymmetric 2 vs. 1 Battle Mode?

EDIT: Nope, no traditional online multiplayer. Yeah, I know that most people play Doom games for the single player experience. Although, I really enjoyed Doom 2016 online multiplayer (maxed out my Doomslayer and clocked in over 300 hours.)

Best of luck to ID, Bethesda, and especially Panic Button. This is a Deal Breaker for me (I can't believe that I didn't know this until now).

Re: Random: The NSO Icon On The Switch Home Menu Is Driving Some Users Crazy

uncleMike

Love it... Has some very cool features too. For example: every NES and SNES game is loadable from the Hub, organized by the year of release, and even shows how old you were upon release (if the release date falls within your birth month).

Yeah... Maybe I'm just an oddball, but Nintendo fans just come across as overly nitpicky this Gen. Unless, it's an article about the WiiU. That's when everyone plays Hipster lol. Gimme a break

Re: Smash Comp The Big House Cancelled After Cease And Desist From Nintendo

uncleMike

@nessisonett The motive of the cease and desist order has nothing to do with moving a niche group of gamers over to Smash Ultimate.

Ultimate is the best selling game of the entire franchise. It's not at all threatened by the Melee competitive scene.

The cease and desist order was in response to a failure to comply with Nintendo's demand. Nobody is being sued or demonized here.

Re: Nintendo Switch Achieves Its Best October Sales To Date In The US

uncleMike

@TG16_IS_BAE Unless you were actually expecting to be paid, I don't see how that is even relevant.

Just because you're not getting paid doesn't mean that you don't benefit from Nintendo's success... I mean, assuming that you buy Switch games.

An increase in hardware sales figures would result in an increase in the install base. That alone makes the Switch much more attractive to third party developers.

An increase in software sales figures would result to more sequels or dlc, typically.... Maybe spin-offs.

Again, assuming that you actually buy Nintendo Switch games, the financial success of the console definitely benefits you.
