Re: NBA 2K24 Tips Off This September On Switch With Kobe Bryant As Its Cover Athlete

@theModestMouse To each their own, but a lot of sports fans enjoy playing with older squads. I haven't played 2K in awhile, but my go-to teams were generally some version of the 1990's Chicago Bulls.

Also, I see this a lot, making the cover of a sports game is not about being a role model. It's typically about being an elite player in that particular sports league. Think about it, have you ever seen Mother Teresa on the cover of a sports game?

@Magician You don't have to like him, but that doesn't give you an excuse to slander him. He was never convicted of any crime, thus he's not a sexual offender. Now, was he a faithful husband? No, he wasn't, and he's wrong for that.

Oh, also, take it from someone who's going through a divorce right now (and been accused of things that I clearly did not do), she would have taken him to the cleaners regardless lol.

Nice Read

I still play the original every year, and would miss the "8bit Charm". However, QoL improvements are desperately need (i.e.: overworld map, diagonal movements, etc..).

Oh... might want to redesign the Level 3 Dungeon too. I'm tired of explaining to people what a Manji is.

Re: Surprise! Fire Emblem Engage's 'Wave 3' Expansion Pass DLC Is Releasing Soon

@Bizzyb "Let's not kid ourselves, FE is about 40% gameplay, 60% story and characters."

I have no idea how you came up with that ratio... but I'm definitely not kidding myself. I have 655 hours on FE Three Houses, 271 hours on FE Awakening, and 120 hours on FE Engage. They are all fantastic games.

Instead of lecturing about what "most gamers want" and phantom percentages, you could mention why you personally dislike FE Engage (that is, assuming that you have even played it).

@Bizzyb The story may not have been on the same level, but the combat more than makes up for it. I absolutely love the new Break mechanic, and reintroduction of the Weapons Triangle. FE Engage also has better battle maps than both Three Houses and Awakening.

Lastly, Engage feels so polished while you're playing. The improved UI is gorgeous, streamlined, and perfectly compliments one of the best looking games on the Switch.

Funniest childhood memory was spending the night over a friend's house playing NES baseball. I got to watch him play against his older brother who was the worst sore loser that I've ever seen.

His brother went from a face red from anger to literally screaming in tears, after losing game after game (furiously demanding rematches and accusing my friend of cheating). He was older than we were, so I desperately tried not to laugh, but I've never seen anything like it.

Re: GoldenEye 007 Shoots Its Way Onto Nintendo Switch Online This Week

@GameOtaku You seem extremely passionate about your stance on this topic. I'm really curious, exactly how many games did you buy on VC?

As much as I miss the option to purchase, I honestly didn't buy that many games. Off the top of my head: Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World, The Legend of Zelda, and A Link to the Past. Even if VC was implemented for the Switch today, I probably wouldn't buy anything different.

In summary, I am going to be generous and say that only 5% - 10% of VC games were actually popular.

Re: Talking Point: Does Nintendo's Next Console Have To Be 'Another' Switch?

uncleMike

For a console... innovation is nice and power is nice but do you know what is even nicer? Money Money Money. I made sure to say that 3 times, to emphasize that those will be Nintendo's Top 3 Priorities with their next console.

The Switch cannot be compared to any other Nintendo console, period. Releasing in 2017, Switch has already outsold the Wii, and is on pace to be in the Top 3 sales god tier of consoles. That's a ton of money. Frankly, it's more success than Nintendo has seen in quite some time (arguably ever).

So... if I'm Nintendo, the goal should be to change as little as possible. I want to do whatever I can to replicate the "Switch formula", or at the very least not sabotage it (i.e.: adding a whole bunch of expensive bullcrap that absolutely no Nintendo fan cared about, like VR or PS5 like tv-only setup).

Trust me, you will get a new Switch with the number 2 next to it.

Re: Fire Emblem Engage Concept Art Shared In New Nintendo 'Ask The Developer' Interview

uncleMike

Initially, I was wrong about FE Awakening and Three Houses, so I'm doing my best not to judge. Still Day 1. I have heard great things about this game so far, but my biggest fear is that it ultimately ends up being too streamlined.

Right now, I realize that there is only so much that they will show, but I am beginning to think that the roster might be kind of slim for this entry. This is actually my main concern, that FE Engage is just another starter entry like Path of Radiance.

Please do not get me wrong, I still like Path of Radiance, it was my first FE game. Although, once I got a taste of the GBA titles, I felt so cheated. I learned that actual game mechanics (and Classes) were sacrificed, in the hopes of: making PoR more streamlined, user friendly, and easier to pick up and play.

I sincerely hope that I'm wrong about this game, since I have already committed to buying. I just really hope that FE Engage will still be another great expansion for the series, and not another water-down for western audiences.

Re: Talking Point: Which Zelda Game Should You Play First?

uncleMike

@Beaucine I suppose that that's true, for your very first playthrough. The boxed map definitely makes the game more beginner friendly.

Although, I would say that the true beauty of the game is that eventually it's meant to be played completely from memory. It's so satisfying to be able to go back to The Legend of Zelda years (or decades) later and be able to kick ass (in just about any dungeon order).

Re: Talking Point: Which Zelda Game Should You Play First?

uncleMike

If you want major Zelda street cred, play the original The Legend of Zelda first. Although, the lack of overworld map makes the first playthrough difficult. The joy will come from using your memory and learning different ways to beat the game, on your next playthrough.

That being said, I voted for A Link to the Past... It set the standard for all of the following games.
