I'm not sure how anyone could argue that Path of Radiance had a better story than Radiant Dawn. Radiant Dawn takes place almost immediately after the events of Path of Radiance, explaining and expanding upon the previous game's storyline.
@Beaucine I suppose that that's true, for your very first playthrough. The boxed map definitely makes the game more beginner friendly.
Although, I would say that the true beauty of the game is that eventually it's meant to be played completely from memory. It's so satisfying to be able to go back to The Legend of Zelda years (or decades) later and be able to kick ass (in just about any dungeon order).
If you want major Zelda street cred, play the original The Legend of Zelda first. Although, the lack of overworld map makes the first playthrough difficult. The joy will come from using your memory and learning different ways to beat the game, on your next playthrough.
That being said, I voted for A Link to the Past... It set the standard for all of the following games.
@BloodNinja Not only is Majora's Mask considered canon by it's creators and the vast majority of the fanbase (as well as the Hyrule Historia), it is also a direct sequel to Ocarina of Time. Clearly, it is not a spinoff.
Majora's Mask stars the same protagonist from the other mainline games, maintains all of the previous gameplay elements, and has traditional dungeons.
Just because you don't like Majora's Mask, doesn't make it a spinoff or a bad game.
Maybe I've played BOTW too much... Because I simply cannot get past this music. It just sounds too similar, and I don't get any Sonic "vibes" at all, if that makes sense.
I'm not an expert on the series (only played SA2 and the retro 2D games), but why no upbeat, cool, "Sonic-like" music? IMO, Sonic has some of the best tracks in Gaming 💯
@moodycat Also, my least favorite and the only path that I have no interest in replaying.
The Final Boss/Endgame was such a disappointment. It wasn't even an original stage!
It was also odd to me that even though Dimitri was never emphasized on the Black Eagles path, his obsession with Edelgard was the main focus of the Blue Lions path. This is especially true during those childhood flashbacks, which were also a complete Sacred Stones rip-off (Ephraim/Eirika and Lyon).
@Ryan_Again Golden Deer is the best path. The final battle against Nemesis is beyond epic and... the first time that I heard God Shattering Star, I knew that I was in love 💯
@Richnj Well... To be fair, it's just Q&A for investors. Obviously, he's going to put a positive spin on the service. Honestly, who wouldn't? Hell, I'm sure even the investors expect him to do that.
To your point, however, NA increase is more than likely closer to 51%... And I'm okay with that. Also, he clearly describes the increase outside of NA as "gradual". It's more of a modest victory but not nearly as nefarious as you're making it out to be, imo.
@Astral-Grain IMO, a truly great franchise should be able to adapt with time and still remain familiar. I think that this is what ultimately separates the "great" franchises from the "good". Traditional fans complaining about changes to beloved franchises is a practice as old as the games themselves. Sometimes these fans are correct, but most of the time they're not.
Lastly, what I loved most about Awakening is that they reintroduced concepts that have been absent since Fire Emblem The Sacred Stones (my third favorite game of the series) such as: the overworld map and the ability to choose from one of two class promotions.
@JeanPaul Awakening was my favorite game in the series, until I played Three Houses.
Please, do yourself a huge favor and buy Three Houses now. You won't regret it.
Without saying too much, Three Houses is longer with a much stronger replay value. The overworld map has been replaced with a calendar system and you have more freedom grooming your Recruits.
My Vote goes to NSO because of affordability. IMO, most of the other prices are too expensive for a gaming subscription service.
Obviously, this all comes down to your perceived value of the service. I just don't see myself investing enough time to justify paying for the higher tiers.
When I played The House of the Dead 2 (Wii), that high-pitched sound before you fight a Boss used to freak out my dog. He would bark non-stop, every time.
...my wife had to eventually ban that game from being played in our home.
@Grumblevolcano As much as I wouldn't mind that scenario, I am not so sure...
To me, this game seems like an E3 level announcement. Thus, Nintendo might be showcasing something big this summer. BOTW2 would be perfect and have center stage at E3.
Hoping for:
BOTW 2 November 2022
Pokemon December 2022
I hate to be "this guy", but it could be as simple as this move was meant to hurt Sony more than it was to benefit Nintendo. They currently have their foot on Sony's throat in Japan, and this was an opportunity to sucker punch them in the West
This acquisition was a big deal for Sony, and Nintendo had the chance to take the "wind out of their sails". I personally feel like the writing was on the wall for Nintendo to pull out of EVO, after Sony bought it. Also, I highly doubt that Sony didn't see this coming.
@Not_Soos I don't think that Sony was asking anything outrageous behind the scenes either. Although, it is always interesting to think about things like that...
As farfetched as this may sound, I wonder if Microsoft put any pressure on Nintendo to pull out of EVO, since they now have character representation in Smash Bros. Ultimate. Doubtful, I know, but just a thought.
In the end, I just look at this as a counter-measure to a Sony acquisition. Also, this makes me strongly consider that the next Street Fighter game will be a Sony exclusive. Sony would wisely be going out of their way to promote Street Fighter and the PS5. IMO, Smash Bros. deserves the center stage.
The ROM is running on an emulated CPU of the retro machine (i.e. NES, SNES, N64), so it's designed to mirror the original hardware.
Although, certain emulators allow you to overclock the CPU. Thus, you actually can run retro games at a higher framerate. I don't think that you would want to do that though... certain games will not play very well.
As much as I would love the option for both, I think that it would ultimately devalue the NSO service.
I miss the VC option, but I really don't miss buying the same retro games every Gen. I still have not bought the NSO expansion, however, I am very curious to see how it plays out for gamers in the long run.
If the service is able to transfer to the next Gen, and we eventually get Gameboy, GBA, Gamecube and/or Wii games then I would say that it's a win-win. Also, more games like Tetris 99, Pac-Man 99 and Super Mario Bros. 35. I absolutely love those.
Who knows, let's wait and see... this is still very new territory for Nintendo. People should be much more patient, IMO
The article itself is fair and well written... That Title, though lol, is pure sensationalism.
"The timing is impeccable, even by Nintendo's standards"
Not really... because the author admits that the court case "has been rumbling for quite some time".
IMO, the only thing that Nintendo made a "reality for countless fans" is that they get another year to legally download games that have been available for years.
Lastly, I get it guys. I miss the VC too. In fact, 90% of my WiiU library was old school... It was literally my go to retro machine, however, those days are over. They've been over since the NSO was announced.
Although, if they don't I completely understand. These comment sections are so reactionary, it's almost like a rage-culture. Certain users just want a platform to complain about the industry because they don't have anything intelligent say but want to feel important. Thus, they play the role of the poor victimized Nintendo gamer.
Not only can you still play games that you've already downloaded, but you also have an entire year to download any titles that you still want... Were these fine folks expecting eShop to last forever or do they just want something to whine about?
Next month they'll be whining about Nintendo clinging to the past and taking too long to release a Switch Pro.

Re: Rumour: Fans May Have Translated The Zonai Text In Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Trailer
I hope that they tie the Zonai in with the Dark Interlopers from Twilight Princess. I've always wanted to know more about both groups.

Did you know that every time someone says Link to the Past or LttP (instead of A Link to the Past or ALttP) an innocent fairy loses it's wings?
It's very sad, indeed.
I see this a lot on this site. I'm starting to think that it's a British thing.
Re: Best Contra Games On Nintendo Systems
Contra Anniversary Collection shouldn't count. Otherwise, it should automatically get the number one spot.
Also, Super C should be in the Top 3.

@Asaki LMAO, you just made my day.
That's the One. Nice Find 💯

The original, The Legend of Zelda, for me.
I even remember those rad 80's commercials lol.

Re: Fire Emblem Heroes' New Summoning Event Will Walk You Down The Aisle
I played this game for about a year, and in that time spent enough money in-game to buy Fire Emblem Three Houses... 3x.
I forced myself to delete this game, and never looked back 💯

Re: Nintendo President Says "Most" North American Switch Online Users Have Upgraded To The Expansion Pack
@Richnj So... I have to ask because I'm dying to know, what's the "full story"?
Should he tell the investors that the service sucks because people in the NL comment section don't approve?
What exactly do you expect this man to say?
Re: Nintendo President Says "Most" North American Switch Online Users Have Upgraded To The Expansion Pack

@larryisaman Agreed
Although, I do love the NERD acronym.

Nice... I always assumed that this would happen eventually, but MVG sold me on this Leak.
I wonder, will we get a Game Boy themed retro controller?
Re: Rumour: Switch Online Leak Reveals Unreleased NES Titles, Here's A Look
2019? This has to be fake.
Also, it's too good to be true, especially with the multiple Mega Man games.

@Grumblevolcano Oh wow... good point. I never noticed that.
Damn... still hoping BOTW2 makes 2022. I wonder if it will still be showcased at E3 if it falls outside of a 6 month window?
Edit:
Another good point about 2016, but I don't recall Nintendo having too much of anything else to show. Regardless, well said and points taken.

and yeah... Melee too lol.

Maybe I read his comment wrong, I assumed that @Yakuboto was asking if the Steam Deck had a disc drive or ran games directly from a cartridge.
Re: Round Up: The Reviews Of Valve's Steam Deck Are In - What's It Like Compared To Switch?
@Yakuboto Neither, games come from the Steam Library.
