Update: The game is available as we speak in Europe.
Original story: In a surprise move, Hamster Corp. has revealed that the cult Neo Geo shooter Blazing Star will be hitting the North American Switch eShop today.
The game is widely regarded as one of the console's finest blasters, and in its original physical format commands a massive price on the secondary market. Thankfully it has been re-released on different digital storefronts in recent years, including Android's Google Play Store and the iOS App Store.
If you have a Japanese eShop account you can actually download the game right now, as it's already available in that region.
Will you be purchasing this colourful and challenging shooter? Let us know with a comment.
I've never played this one so I think I'll have to give it a try on the switch. My SD Card will be happy.
No D-Pad really does hurt these releases
Definitely interested. Concerned about the lack of D-pad too. Pro controller needed.
That's a nice surprise to release it today. That doesn't happen very often.
Not a fan of it sincerely. Aero Fighters were far better. This was more graphics than anything else, and today that graphics don't tell the ssme story. Still a decent game, nontheless.
One of my all time favorites! Hope they release "Pulstar" down the road.
@Shiryu: Thanks for posting this. "Your skills are great"!
Man, I love these NeoGeo classics! And perfect for Switch where most of them can be played 2p in tabletop like a mini arcade.
Never heard of this one, but I want it
Also out today in Europe.
What the heck! Today's Tuesday! Start of a new New trend? Anyway, great game and I'll be grabbing it. Go Hamster go!!
So many Neo-Geo games, stop killing my wallet!
They're probably releasing it today (Tuesday) because that's when Hamster releases its ACA titles on the other systems since that's the general game release day for NA, instead of Friday for Nintendo games.
I'll be sure to pick it up as soon as possible.
@TossedLlama "Pulstar" is often dismissed as just a "R-type" clone, but I always prefer to think of it as an homage.
A nerve wrecking, insanely difficult homage I might add (yes, much harder than "Blazing Star"!).
Great! I'll grab this tonight.
just completed it, felt just like on my neo cd unit minus clicky joystick, caravan mode is a great addition.
Only managed to buy this yesterday and all i can say is "Holy Bum-Nuggets this game is Awesome!".
Plays also real well on the joycons analogue sticks I feel. Will try pro controller d-pad when I return home from holiday.
