You know what's interesting here is that judging by these numbers Pokemon as a game franchise could survive just by it's sales in Asia. That's crazy, I always thought Pokemon was equally popular worldwide but it seems like the popularity is quite lopsided if over 40% of the sales are from Japan.
@MARl0
I think the switch port wasn't handled by Nintendo but by Atlus? And they were just not gonna bother to use the Japanese version as a basis for the port, reaction to that port being based on the western release was extremely negative and badly impacted the sales so I wouldn't be too surprised if in the future the game comes out in an uncensored state.
Hey that's fantastic news! Regardless of the game's quality even, the fact that after so long an uncensored port can happen should give anyone hope who was annoyed at some game being censored. Maybe in the future something like Tokyo Mirage Sessions could possibly even get an unbutchered release?
Really do appreciate Eastasiasoft's work here.
From what I've played and seen in someone else's copy, even disregarding the graphical issues there's a myriad of other problems which would not make me give the game more than a 7/10. Then I'd dock a point for all the jankyness and uglyness (not all of which is purely technical) and a general feeling of a lack of care and lack of attention to detail in many aspects of the game and that's a 6/10 for me.
I mean... I really don't care about the story of Bayonetta, I just enjoy the spectacle. The ending sure was unexpected but I definitely won't say no to further sequels! On the successor to the Switch I guess.
Man I don't know, I don't really trust the remaining people at Team Ninja (as good as Nioh may be) to be able to actually make a great new Ninja Gaiden. And after the disaster that was DoA 6 (also known as Dead on Arrival 6) I'm convinced that Koei Tecmo still doesn't understand who they want their target audiences to be and how they wanna appeal to them. Which is sad because 5LR was so damn amazing and I absolutely love that game. Overall I don't expect anything good to come from this.
In the first place why reboot, when neither series is in need of one??
Just so we're all on the same page here, Game Freak literally owns 1/3 of The Pokemon Company. I doubt that they have little say in how the developement of the games is handled.
Absolutely despicable that TPC pays for a vocal track by a western artist but then cuts corners at all sorts of other places when it concerns the mainline Pokemon games.
Man they really captured lightning in a bottle with this game, unfortunatley never recaptured that magic. And at this point I'm not sure if Nintendo should even keep Retro around in their current situation, but who knows maybe Prime 4 will prove me wrong.
@broskiplays Really? Because as far as I know you can't actually change out of your school uniform, just have different variants per season. Yes I'm aware that you can customize hats etc.
Not only is it technically bad, for the first time ever I'd say that even the character designs are bad, something which Pokemon usually always excelled at. The customization options are also extremely lacking and there's less actual options for clothes than in previous games. All in all this new Pokemon game is an aesthetic disaster if you ask me. Maybe I'll play it some day, but my eyes definitely aren't drawn to this and what I've read in this review doesn't make me wanna try it either.
Very excited for this, really like the artstyle and designs (alright mc is a little weird I'll admit) and story and setting wise I think I'll enjoy this more than 3 Houses. Next year is gonna have a great start!
Well Rockstar went on to make mega successful games with the further GTA releases in that gen and Eminem starred in a very successful biopic and sold a bunch of records. Seems like this film not happening didn't negatively impact anyone's career.
I haven't downloaded any of their mobile games. But also these numbers aren't all that amazing are they? Aside from Pokemon Go I don't think Nintendo ever even came close to having a mobile game smash hit like Uma Musume for example. Which is just fine by me since I like Nintendo console games
So since a large part of their demo seems to be adults... how about letting games like Xenoblade and Fire Emblem have higher age ratings? I'm sure the kids are really important for something like Smash Bros which is why they always wanna get a low age rating for that, hence for example being careful with the possibly sexually interpreted depiction of the women in Smash Bros, especially Ultimate. But for other series I'm pretty sure it doesn't really matter all that much whether 12 year olds can play it so how about some more freedom and leeway for the developers? Just some wishful thinking.
@GrailUK I agree that investors are ridiculous, but in the case of Nintendo they actually make a ton of money off of hardware. Like 1/3 of their profit or something.
That's lame that there is no actual marriage. But I guess there's bigger problems gameplay wise here. Seems like a game one would pick up at half price later on or something.
Well I hope you go into detail about how the relationships are in this game, because what I've read in an interview with the developes was very concerning. A farming fantasy life sim without marriage is personally a no go for me and I'd rather play a fully fledged farming simulator or fantasy game in that case.
I'm not British so this is really surprising to me. Yeah I was aware that Nintendo isn't super popular in the UK, but the Xbox One was kind of a sales flop so I guess a large portion of all global XBONE sales were in the UK? Did not expect that.
Might seem dumb, but the fact that it's digital only might actually dissuade some from buying it. Or at least make them not purchase it until it's discounted to some degree.
Maybe there's some higher ups at Nintendo who have taken a liking to Kamiya? At any rate, I'm glad they greenlit the project since Bayo 3 is absolutely amazing and was definitely worth the wait. Always been a fan of these kinds of action games ever since I played Devil May Cry 4 and I look forward to what this partnership between Platinum and Nintendo will deliver us in the future.
@Porky huh? Do you really think Lyn's gratuitous leg exposure and lack of visible pants or panties wasn't for fanservice/because the designer thought it was appealing? Not to mention that in recent times they have added spats to her outfit and as far as proportions go they haven't changed, she's always been like that. I mention Lyn because you mistakenly claim that in the past Fire Emblem designs used to be tame and convincing. Also, as far as I remember you're wrong about her popularity too, she was always amongst the most popular characters, don't forget FE7 was many peoples first Fire Emblem. Though I won't deny that she got even more popular after Heroes.
@Polvasti The way a male character is designed to be appealing and how it is with the female characters is very different and one can't just equate skin exposure with skin exposure. Maybe you don't notice the fanservice with male characters, but it is absolutely there.
@Porky Isn't Lyn one of the most popular Fire Emblem characters? And she came before Awakening.
@LUIGITORNADO I don't know if you're being disingenuous on purpose or what. If you didn't think my humor is funny that's fine, plenty agree, but the post after that wasn't really related to that, it was in defense of certain kinds of character designs. I guess you could also just be trolling. At any rate there's nothing wrong with saying ''male character'' or ''female character''.
@Polvasti How is it sexist? The male characters are good looking and visually appealing too. Is your issue the lack of ''realism'' in this fantasy game?
@Polvasti Why is it so hard for some people to understand that teen boys aren't the only people who like these sorts of female character designs? Also, maybe the people in charge of design just like this look.
She looks really cute, green haired girls in Fire Emblem are always top notch. And her large chest is nice too. (I guess I'll be the one to say it without euphemisms lol)
Well I like Animal Crossing, but I wouldn't say the human character designs in the recent games are very unique. It's pretty much just a variation of the normal cutesy chibi look.
The folks at Polygon always seemed a bit strange and silly to me, so no worries there if they have a problem with a game, don't care and everyone else seems to love it anyway. But if you wanna value their opinion that's fine too of course, you do you.
Before this comment section gets out of hand, quick reminder that instead of arguing with someone who is obviously trolling you can just report them and move on.
Damn, I guess Senoue-san must have asked for 100k dollars + residuals... All jokes aside, even without Senoue directly making the songs I'm not worried about the OST of a Sonic game not being good.
I don't even care if it's true or not, because I'm over the debate for this(same as Hellena it seems lol) and am just gonna enjoy the game when it comes out, but 6 figures? For Bayonetta? Now that's funny!
@Ratmasterd21 In the first place online gaming is not the MOST important thing to me, though I do enjoy it whenever I tried out a 1 year sub/ before that back when it was free, but I can live without. Also some people are just really stubborn about some arbitrary principles and choose to die on that hill.
@Otoemetry Well if you go that route I would simply choose to doubt her based on the fact that she lies about and greatly exaggerates how successful Bayonetta is. She claims it makes 450million without merch but that is simply not true. Not to mention that other VAs have commented that 4000$ is not exactly disrespectful. Would you rather believe people who actively do VA work or someone like Hellena who hasn't done anything in 8 years?
Congratz to the Nintendo EPD devs for this massive success, I'm sure they didn't expect this when they came up with the idea all those years ago. Unfortunately I am strongly opposed to paying a subscription to simply play online, so nothing for me.
@Nanoline52 I don't know why you're even using this line of argument, when Hellena Taylor has not done any VA work in 8 years! Bayonetta paying enough or not has nothing to do with her life situation because she's such an infrequent voice actress. Also your assumption on how much money a company makes from games purely based on sales multiplied by 60 is extremely ignorant.

No comment on the game itself, but man, Penny's design is so lame. If I had NSO I'd definitely get that Nemona icon though.
