Splatoon has unconventional controls? It's a twin stick shooter with motion for precision. I'm all for different controls. Games get boring when they all control the same way, like 80% of all games nowadays. And Nintendo usually makes games as simple as possible (which people complain about) so it's nice to see them trying more complex controls (which people complain about).
Of the nindies@Home demos, RIVE really stood out as a quality game to me. Also Typoman but that isn't listed here. I'm cautiously optimistic about Fast Racing Neo.
So they asked Criterion if they wanted to make a F-Zero game and they said no. I don't think that qualifies as 'we almost got a F-Zero game by Criterion'.
@Onion I've played all the Metroid games. And I was being facetious by calling it Metroid without the hot blonde.
Your post also shows how little you've seen of the game. It is in no way a 4vs4 splatoon like game. It is a co-op game with up to four players and you go on missions.
I'm also not sure how you can claim there are no metroids in the game. And it takes place in the Metroid universe; hence Metroid in the title.
I have no idea if the game will be good or bad, but the reaction people have had to the very, tiny bit of information we've seen is ridiculous. The gameplay looks very much based off the prime games but with co-op. Yeah the graphics are a little more kid friendly. Oh well. I would think Nintendo fans would know by now graphics mean nothing compared to gameplay.
Never judge a book by its cover. It doesn't mean it'll be good but people should at least give it a chance.
@Onion Okay people need to lighten up. 1. It was a joke, you know, to be funny. 2. It looks and plays like a Metroid Prime game, except with co-op. The only reason it's "not a metroid game" is because Samus isn't in it. So yeah, based on the very little information we've seen, it's basically Metroid without the hot blonde. And just to make it clear, Metroid is my favorite Nintendo franchise.
@Shiryu glad to see not everyone has lost their mind. Lol. as has been said, we still don't know almost anything about the game so the reaction from most is insane. Looking forward to seeing more details about it.
Personally, I'm not that excited for Ryu as I would have prefered more classic Nintendo Characters but I know Sakurai only wants to add characters that provide something new and different so from that standpoint Ryu should be a good addition. And good to finally see Roy back.
I do think NintendoLife could have kept the giant picture Ryu off the main page though.
@AyeHaley My point is that the reason they are even so popular is because of the rarity of them. If amiibos were everywhere people wouldn't rush out to get them. No one goes crazy trying to get skylanders or infinity stuff because they know it'll be there when they decide to get it. I'm not for or against it. Simply pointing out that it does make finding a rare amiibo more gratifying. And it's a sign of our self entitled age that people think everything they want should be theirs right now.
I don't understand all the endless complaining about stock. A big reason amiibos have taken off like they have is because they're so hard to find. If they were available everywhere a lot of people wouldn't feel so rushed to get them. Because they're so rare people line up and preorder and try to get any rate amiibo, whether they want it or not. That's the whole point of collecting. It should be special and involve effort.
I understand the complaints, but I do find it amusing that Nintendo is finally coming out with a pretty impressive online game and people are complaining about a lack of local multiplayer lol.
I think by making the times so limited it will ensure the most amount of people will play at the same time. If it was an all day thing, people might end up playing it spread out throughout the day and 1) There might not be that many people to play with at any given time. 2) It should really stress the servers and see if it can hold up which, based on the launches of a lot of online games recently, is wise to clear up now.
I was happy that my Samus amiibo unlocked Super Metroid. That felt right lol. But I honestly didn't see the point of it. It just made me want to actually play Super Metroid. Oh... That's the point...
@drkdtvngr I ended up splitting the cost with someone else. He bought the Wii U version for $20 and I gave him $10 for the 3DS code. Since there's no cross-play I didn't really need it on both systems.
I'm not sure why people are saying this is a $10 game... I don't know if it is or not I haven't played it. But...neither does anyone else who hasn't played it. Just because a game has a simple art style or is a 2D puzzle game doesn't mean it has to be $5.
@Philip_J_Reed I had the same glitch during the second beaver race, and a couple other times where, for no reason, the game acted like I died and started the room over.
Also, one time I played the Song of Time with 2 in game minutes left and the "the world is going to end" music continued to play. The normal game music would still play (like Clock Town or Termina Field music) but that impending doom was always there in the background. It was pretty eerie. It kept playing till I restarted the game.
@Gerbwmu I think that's what the User Accounts are for. You can set up different accounts on the Wii U system and each one has it's own save files for all games.
Great review. I'm loving my time with this game. Some of the challenges are quite...er challenging. I can definitely recommend the game to anyone who enjoys mega man style action games.
@unrandomsam I agree. I'm very tired of waypoints. It's more fun to explore and figure it out fo yourself. Hopefully there's at the very least an option to turn them off like the hint system in Metroid Prime.
@eaglebob345 That's how i feel. Fortunately, Kingdom Hearts should be coming to PC as well so I don't need to get a PS4 or XBox One just to play one game.
@Octane Those aren't really mistakes, they're just not things you like. I actually did like the blowing mechanic in DKCR and enjoyed Star Fox Adventures and Sticker Star. I'm not saying everything he does is amazing and while this looks neat I was fairly underwhelmed by this too, but who knows, I imagine the first time people saw Pikmin it probably looked weird too lol.
This is Mario Kart, not some fantasy epic. It's not like this dlc is ruining the immersion of the game. If Link starts riding a Ferrari instead of Epona, then we might have a problem lol.

In my life I've learned that I don't need a hot blonde to make me happy. Maybe Metroid fans need to learn that too.

Re: 3DS System Update 8.0.0-18 is Now Live

Would love it if 3DS VC finally had button mapping. And, like everyone else said folders, UI overhaul, cross-buy, jet pack, etc.

@Rin-go actually the 3ds does have gba vc, if you're an ambassador.
Yeah, cross buy would be nice, but it's not the end of the world. I just would like snes and gba to come to the 3ds.
