It's time again, North American gamers, for details on the Nintendo Download treats that'll be available this week. We have new titles on both the Wii U and 3DS, while both Virtual Consoles also receive one game each; in addition there are some tempting demos and discounts to consider. Let's get to the details.
Missed the European Nintendo Download Update this week? Oh no! Still, don't fret, the details are all right here
Wii U eShop
Cubemen 2 (Nnooo, $7.99) — While the core of this game is real-time action strategy, its release has extra profile courtesy of its extensive cross-platform online multiplayer options, in addition to the ability to create and share levels while also enjoying those uploaded on other platforms. That's quite a technical feat, though we'll see whether that promise is squared off with top-notch gameplay in our upcoming review.
Ice Cream Surfer (Dolores Entertainment, $TBC) — The shoot 'em up genre has been rather under-served on the Wii U eShop, so the arrival of this colourful and slightly wacky title should be considered a cool moment (we're so sorry). Unfortunately we don't think it stands up to the heat (sorry again), as we explained in our Ice Cream Surfer review.
Wii U Virtual Console
Nobunaga's Ambition (Koei, $7.99) — This is an ambitious strategy Super NES title, with a name that may be familiar to those that enjoyed cross-over title Pokémon Conquest on DS. The depth of this title could be daunting or provide countless hours of entertainment, and we gave it a reasonable recommendation in our Wii Virtual Console Nobunaga's Ambition review.
Wii U eShop Permanent Discount
Jett Tailfin (HR Games, $24.95, previously $34.95)
3DS eShop
Tappingo 2 (Goodbye Galaxy Games, $2.99) — The sequel to the popular puzzle game that applies its own take on the genre, applying a spin to Picross-style principles. This new entry features over 100 new puzzles and a welcome zoom option to assist with larger images; we're working on a review, but in the meantime you can learn more about the game in our interview with Goodbye Galaxy Games.
3DS Virtual Console
Street Fighter 2010: The Final Fight (Capcom, $4.99) — An oddity in the Street Fighter franchise, as it's absolutely nothing like its 2D fighting siblings. It is 2D, but aside from that this NES title is an action platformer spin-off with a sci-fi storyline — we'll be jumping in to see how it fares in our upcoming review.
3DS eShop Temporary Discounts
Brunch Panic (CIRCLE Entertainment, $2.79 until 15th September, normally $3.99)
World Conqueror 3D (CIRCLE Entertainment, $3.99 until 25th September, normally $5.99)
My Vet Practice 3D - In The Country (TREVA Entertainment, reduced until 24th September)
My Baby Pet Hotel 3D (TREVA Entertainment, reduced until 24th September)
3DS eShop Demo
Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call (Square Enix, free)
Bit Boy!! ARCADE (Bplus, free)
Glory of Generals (CIRCLE Entertainment, free)
We should also note that there's a sale to celebrate Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS, with games focused on "Mario, Yoshi and more classic Nintendo characters"; at the time of writing that's all of the information that's been issued, but we'll let you know once details emerge.
That's the line-up for this week, North American gamers. Let us know what you plan to download in the poll and comments below.

Looks like a "weak" week.......
Just Cubemen 2 for me.
@ashlyquin
Hank Hill: Yep
Shouldn't Kirby Fighters Deluxe and King Dedede's Drum Dash Deluxe be on the list as well? it came out after last weeks downloads and wasn't mentioned in weekly downloads so this might be a good time to mention it.
Garbage week. NoE once again leaving Capcom et al. to support the VC alone.
No Gargoyle's Quest II yet again? oh well, there's always next week...
Lame week ..If streetfighter 2010 was out on wiiu Id be all over that.Im all out of space on my 4gb sdcard after downloading streetfighter 3d last week..
Cubemen 2 might get me at some point but for now I'm gonna pass this week......gotta keep my funds around for some key releases I know are on the way
@CanisWolfred : Nope. Next two weeks are Adventure Island and Wild Guns.
3DS got 3 demos in 1 week?
I'm pretty sure Wii U hasnt gotten a demo in 2014 yet, Sonic Lost Worlds or MH3 late 2013 was the last one.
Oh, I'm waiting for the Cubemen 2 review, if its at least decent we'll probably get it.
dry...
@Undead_terror Nintendo says no
Great, a demo for Curtian Call! Also waiting on a review for Cubemen 2. Looks interesting enough to hold my attention.
When was the last Wii U demo btw. Some thing with the Bayonetta direct we might get one.
Very upset Firebrand fan over here. I should have stayed in bed today.
Tappingo for me. Otherwise, awful selection.
My apologies, missed a permanent price reduction to Jett Tailfin, that's now been added.
I will probably get the Bit Boy demo just to see if it's really as bad as the reviews say.
Tappingo cause why not? I like puzzles and got a few bucks to spare
No, Murasame castle for Wii U. It's like Nintendo isn't even trying anymore.
After last weeks stellar selection, I didn't expect much this week. I was right lol.
I'm taking a wait and see on Cubemen 2. It's sounds intriguing, but for some reason the footage just hasn't done it for me. I'll wait for a few reviews.
Last week = EPIC. This week = GAHHH
@TwilightV well, Wild Guns is something. But still...
Coming soon:
Coming soon:
Adventure Island - Sept. 11 (Virtual Console on Wii U)
Wild Guns - Sept. 18 (Virtual Console on Wii U)
Legend of the River King 2 - Sept. 18 (Virtual Console on Nintendo 3DS)
(also from the press release)
ETA: beaten by 12 seconds ;__;
Nothing for me this week besides the curtin call demo...my wallet can use a break after last weeks releases and sales but I do hope the smash sale is the same as the european sale, I wouldn't mind picking up some of the games.
I'll be picking up the Curtain Call and BitBoy demos, probably Street Fighter 2010 too, that actually looks like an entertaining action platformer.
I'll be waiting for reviews when it comes to Cubemen2.....I also thought Teslagrad released today but I guess that's next week. Oh well.
Well since it's not on this weeks or last weeks update, I got Kirby Fighters Deluxe, a fun game indeed.
@BertoFlyingFox Ya. Next week.
Were people really expecting street fighter 2010 and gargoyles quest in the same week? Right after the capcom sales? They stand to make more money if they wait, jus ty watch in another month we will get another capckm sale followed by another of the VC games
@Captain_Gonru - Thanks. I'll be in Tatget later today for back-to-school supplies so I'll check. Though my kid is home sick from school - day 2 ruins perfect attendance - so play time will be limited.
I'm starting to get pissed. It's been almost 2 years since WiiU launched, Nintendo is not delivering even the minimum expected. I mean, I can only tolerate the AAA game drought if they give us a decent VC lineup, having so many masterpieces!....this is just laziness, and terrible oversight, any mediocre programer can port VC games....in fact if Nintendo would be more humble they should have hired the people who illegally ported those games to PC years ago!...this is nothing related to costs. Also don't tell me they want to ensure the quality of the ports is right cause they should have thought about making the right HW to run the old games years before the WiiU launch, and also they already have 2 years after launch!
Are you telling me that they plan these scarce VC launches to fill the AAA game droughts?, that's just lame.
I've always supported them, but I can't stop looking at the competition beating them in almost any metric. They get free games, old games, HD remakes, exclusives, 3rd parties....I see very little effort coming from Nintendo!
Back to a whole lot of nothing for me this week, Nobunaga's Ambition maybe... gonna read the review
@ThomasBW84
The video on the Nobunaga's Ambition review doesn't work
What the heck is a Nobaguda?? What about Fire Emblem over here in the US???!
I remember having Street Fighter 2010 back in the day, and I didn't realize it was actually supposed to be related to the fighting series. I just figured they were two unrelated franchises that happened to have the same name (note that young version of me didn't really know much about developers and marketing). Also, I remember that game being pretty tough.
Waiting on a review or 2 for Cubemen 2, but pretty sure buying that.
So 46% of people aren't going to download anything, even though there are 3, yes 3, demos? People, TRY SOMETHING.
And I don't want t hear nonsense like, "I don't own 3DS." No way 46% of the people who check this don't own a 3DS. A few of you might. But people don't own WiiUs, they own 3DSs if they come to Nintendo Life.
Pitiful week once again :-/
At least I'll get to try Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call, although I'm just as baffled as ever by that limited number of use and NNID only approach to demos. It takes a special kind of institutionalized dullness, to come up with something like that.
Street Fighter 2010!
@XCWarrior The demo's I would only want is a smash bros demo, a Majora's Mask 3D demo (if it came to be) and maybe the Monster Hunter 4 demo.
Heh, did anyone else here think that there was a normal Street Fighter Game for the NES when they read the List for today?
I though Street Fighter 2010 was supposed to be on Wii U.....
its sad to see people, probably 3ds only owners gnashing their teeth over last week or next weeks virtual console releases and ignoring a real time strategy with cross platform multiplayer.
Wait, we're getting the Smash discounts as well? I was hoping we'd see them, glad it happened!
Of course I will be getting Tappingo 2. I don't think I will get the Curtain Call demo as I already know how it works and I know it will be day 1. Cubemen is a maybe, depending on reviews.
Cubemen looks interesting
I'll try the Glory of Generals demo.
Nothing this week I was kinda hoping for that Zelda 3ds sale to come to the us
I'll get the Curtain Call demo, but that's it. VC hasn't interested me much lately.
I just realized... Capcom has already re-published all its NES and SNES games that once arrived on Wii VC. That means that only new-old games starting now!
Nothing for me...
Ooh, Jett Tailfin got a price drop! Now it's oh so slightly less way too expensive.
@StuntmanNate So did I.
Anyway, nothing for me this week, but I'll be getting Adventure Island and Wild Guns in the next couple weeks. Now PLEASE, release AI 2 for Wii U!
Curtain call demo only. I will be saving my money until something deserving comes out. And these releases are not worthy of my my dough or time. I might start calling this trash thurdays unless things turn around for VC.
Yay America get's a Smash Bros. sale. I'm sure it will be nothing compared to the EU sale but still, hopefully a couple good games will be available.
Smash Bros sale, yay. Please be a good one.
Got too excited though, entered the eShop without thinking about how I wake up too early these days.
I might give Street Fighter a sgot and I'll try the Glory Of Generals demo.
I'm happy to see the Smash Bros sale is happening for NA, at least to some degree. I complained about that a few weeks ago.
Obviously Jett Tailfin is selling well since they've already issued a permanent discount. ::sarcasm::
I'll be getting Tappingo 2 once I finish the first one.
Nobunaga's ambition for me, and maybe some games from the smash sale
Smash Sale on 3DS:
Super Mario 3D Land - 19.99
Yoshi's Island - 29.99
Super Mario Bros 3 (VC) -3.49
Super Mario Bros 2 (VC) - 3.49
Punch-Out - 3.49
Seems like that's it.
Okay.
Looks like it's going to change weekly for four weeks.
I'm not sure why I even check anymore. I should just move to Europe...
Jett Tailfin already at 25$? Now's the time to buy this gem
The hell? I thought SF2010 was coming to the Wii U VC. Aw, man. If they're not gonna implement cross-buy, they could at least just have the courtesy to do a dual release.
I just got the notice of the sale from my Wii U gamepad. First time I have been sitting by it at 9am on a Thursday apparently as I had no idea it would "wake up" that way.
Sadly I likely have all the classic Nintnedo games on the VC that I would want, so the sale won't do much for me. Hopefully those that are holding out pick something up though.
Street Fighter 2010 looks sounds interesting so I may get that, SMB2, and Tappingo 2. That should just about cover a $10 eshop card plus the few dollars I had left over from last week.
@Webby-sama Ya I saw that, probably will have to get both the NES Mario games.
Thanks for the heads up @Webby-sama
@Webby-sama
Mostly correct, there are a couple that you missed in the link below, but otherwise thanks for the heads up.
http://www.nintendo.com/eshop/offers
::Edit::
As it turns out NL just posted the article, I swear I did not steal the url! Lol, bad timing.
just the turn-based samurai strategy game nobunaga's ambition from koei for me, maybe cubemen.
@MoonKnight7 Yeah I didn't do the Wii U ones. Would have had to stand up and go get the game pad off the charger.
sighs I miss the days when Nintendo released an awesome SNES/N64 game, and we were all like..."Awesome!" T.T
@earthboundlink yes. Street fighter 2010 is very tough! But enjoyable though. Can't believe it came to the virtual console!
Street Fighter 2010: The Final Fight for me! I sadly hit the 300 applications mark today on my 3DS XL. Deleted 12 unnecessary demos and other apps to free up space. They really have to do something about that cap. Hopefully the new 3DS XL will address that? Anybody heard if it will?
Tappingo 2. Loved the first game, actually almost lost my job over that game, that's how addicting it was. Also got the Bit Boy Arcade demo. Good week for me.
Theatrhythm Curtain Call (Huge YES)
also Street Fighter 2010. Played that game after watching the AVGN episode about it and fell in love with it
@TwilightV for wii u? How you find that out? Lol
Cubemen 2 for me, but needs to be at least a seven, if not six for me to buy it. Technically the game is impressive, and cheap, but I hope it delivers on gameplay.
The eshop discounts are also a nice extra for the week. I got Cubemen 2 and Tappingo 2.
Super Little Acorn 3D is also on sale this week. Half off at $3.95. I guess I'll for the SF:2010 review and go head an get SLA:3d while it's on sale.
I'll be getting Cubemen 2 and all 3 of the 3DS Demos! Why aren't there more Wii U eShop demos?
@cheapogamer4life: You should! It's really fun! Beware though, some of the later levels are hardcore!
@chilenozo We get all of those things owning a Wii U. We might not get as much - but we still get them. They do promotions that give us free games, free CDs, etc. Not to mention we get "free" stuff by using club nintendo. They have remade Wind Waker in HD (which could count towards an old game depending on how you look at it), all the remakes they made in 3D for the 3DS, and probably more coming. The VC consists of a lot of "old" games. They just are slow at coming out. All Nintendo games are exclusive. I do agree in the sense that we don't have as many 3rd party games as other consoles and wish there were more of those.
trash,trash,and moar trash!!
@chilenozo they're just killing me. VC could be sooo awesome!!! Hundreds & hundreds of classics to be had! Terrible!! Just terrible!
I'm with ya buddy!!
it has nothing to do with the other street fighter games. someone fights in the street - you call them street fighter. You could call a bus a street fighter if you wanted to, but don't expect to see Chun Li on it just because those two words were strung together like that.
finally ice cream surfer!!!
Azure Striker Gunvolt is still keeping me occupied >:0
@joey302 : Yes, for Wii U. Just reading Nintendo's weekly press release.
@something17 But my main point is that, the competition beats them almost in everything these days. I admit that liking or hating a game is a matter of personal tastes, so it would be dumb for me arguing about who makes better games. But here we are talking about things that can be quantified. PS has more games, more old games, more remakes, more price drops, more offers, more free games. It seems that dollar for dollar they are a better investing. I love Nintendo but I wonder how much they can keep me. I have money and want to spend it in quality and quantity. Does Nintendo wants my money?, time to put way more effort. And I'm not talking about spending millions in AAA games or paying 3rd party devs...I'm talking about the minimum...hire a couple of new grads and make them port the old games!
Been eyeing Curtain Call (and that LE looks spiffy) so I'll be giving that a spin this weekend to see if the extra swag is worth it.
