Re: Nintendo Really Wants You To Press Switch 2's GameChat Button

somnambulance

I’d be really curious what percentage of users have utilized this feature. Gamechat was absolutely getting a basic feature that’s available literally everywhere else wrong.

Also, just gotta throw it out there, but it’s been a year now and I’ve only used the mouse functionality in Drag x Drive and Welcome Tour. I wonder if that’ll ever be something actually useful either.

Re: Nintendo Will Be "Absolutely Furious" About Latest Leaks, Says Former PR Manager

somnambulance

I hope the leaks are real. It’s seriously a 10/10 line up for me this year if it’s true. Seeing Star Fox and Warioland on top of the games we already know about is fantastic. I mean, it’s totally a niche line-up, and I don’t understand the wisdom in business of this, but at least it’s certainly catered to my tastes.

I think Ocarina’s totally plausible too, but I hope it’s a remake in the BotW engine rather than another glorified remaster.

Re: Nintendo Misses Out On Top 10 In Metacritic's 16th Annual Game Publisher Rankings

somnambulance

I’m happy to see Square get a win, but do they really deserve it for basically re-releasing a bunch of already excellent games? Square’s been beat up so many times that I like to see them have success, but it’s a shame they didn’t get more celebration when they made more new games. Sort of encourages the “living in the past, nostalgia gazing” we’re getting out of the industry these days. Remasters for the win forever, I guess.

Personally, I felt Nintendo had the best line-up last year of any publisher. Four Nintendo games were in my personal top 10 last year. The ire against Welcome Tour was certainly overdone, though Drag x Drive was certainly among Nintendo’s weakest first party games. Imagine if those two games were built into the Switch 2! The narrative around them both would probably be unilateral praise instead. But seriously, Bananza’s a 10, and MKW, Metroid, Z-A are all underrated 8s to me.

Honestly too, outside the Nintendo slate, last year was sort of weak across the board. Death Stranding 2 is probably the only truly essential AAA game last year that wasn’t Nintendo. For me, at least. I know others may disagree. Microsoft’s line-up was better than most too, even if I’m not sure I’d rate any of the games they released last year above 7/10.

Re: Epic Games Cuts Over 1,000 Jobs Weeks After Raising Fortnite V-Bucks Prices

somnambulance

With regards to Fortnite, I guess the increase in price didn’t help them “pay the bills.” Honestly, it’s terrible to see people lose jobs. I hope they find something new soon. I hope very much that economic stability becomes something that is more assured in our world in the future.

I do wonder if Fortnite’s finally past its peak though. The game’s almost 10 years old now. I mean, when I was a kid, everyone was playing this game called Super Mario Brothers, but when I was a young adult, freshly out of school, everyone was playing Halo. While Mario and Halo are still around, things are different. By 2017, when Fortnite released, Mario wasn’t anything like the Mario I played when I was 10, and Halo was basically limbering around like a slowly decaying undead. Fortnite’s gotten bigger in 9 years, but it’s mostly had success in its BR format, and while it’s changed some, it’s not the same change that Mario had when I went from 10 to 19 years old. Those kids that were 10 nine years ago are probably bouncing off to newer things and the kids that are 10 now might not be as interested. My son’s 8 and he’s got no interest in it.

I think there’s typically a generational shift in games, and if you’re not adapting and making new things with recognizable characters, a game can only go so far. On Mario’s S curve, he can always reinvent himself to prevent dying and bank on nostalgia a little bit sometimes to stretch things out a bit. Without having its own recognizable characters, I do wonder how long Fortnite can plunder yesterday’s pop culture to remain relevant.

Re: Feature: Where The Heck Do You Start If You've Never Played Resident Evil?

somnambulance

RE7 is what I’d recommend for people that focus mostly on modern games and RE1 for people that like retro games.

Honestly, RE7 than REmake 1, 2, 3, Village, REmake 4, RE5, Requiem is what I’d recommend as a shortcut version of playing the series. You can skip 0 and 6 and the side games and still have enough lore. By the time you get to a divisive entry like 5, you’ll already be hooked enough to make your own opinion on it too, and Requiem can be the cherry on top

Re: Poll: Who's Your Favourite Resident Evil Villain?

somnambulance

How can you not vote for Wesker? I really like the Bakers and Victor Gideon too, but seriously Donna Beneviento’s section in Village was a remarkable triumph in horror too. It’s probably the only moment in Village that truly surpassed the mastery of horror going on in RE7

Re: Vampire Survivors' Crazy Dungeon Crawler Spin-Off Launches Next Month

@-wc- Last time I saw them it was end of the century and it was nothing special.

…I jest! Totally jest! Gorillaz have put on some fantastic shows. Just being the model of a charmless man. I’d not seen Gorillaz on SNL lately, but I’ll definitely look it up and watch it today and probably have that lone tear trickling down the side of my face as well.

Y’know, it doesn’t fully make sense to throw this line out there, but eh… it’s another indie game/Blur correlation. In the song “The Narcissist,” there’s another pertinent lyric for today: “I felt rubato standing there.” I’m feeling Rubato too since THAT game literally comes out tomorrow and I preordered it after the demo.

Re: Opinion: Pokémon Pokopia Is Nostalgia Done Right

somnambulance

100% agree with this article.

Pokopia is probably the first game in the series that legitimately deserves to be in the GotY discussion too. I hope that it’s still being talked about at the end of the year. You can really feel the passion of the team that made this.

Re: Tomodachi Life: Living The Dream Has Been Rated, Here's The ESRB Summary

somnambulance

I was planning on getting this one for the wife and kids, but they’re so smitten with Pokopia right now that I’m sort of waiting for reviews on this rather than preordering this one because I think they’re going to be busy for a while. My son literally told me today, “Dad, I like Pokopia more than Animal Crossing and I didn’t think that would happen. I thought it was going to feel like a copy, but it doesn’t. It’s better. And now I think Tomodachi Life is coming out too soon because I don’t know if I’m ready for it.”

I know they’re different games at the core, but I feel like Nintendo’s done some questionable scheduling the last year-ish. Putting Kirby Air Riders the same year as Mario Kart and then having Pokopia in March and Tomodachi in April is a weird strategy to me.

Re: Pokémon Pokopia's Early Success Causes A Surge In Nintendo's Share Price

somnambulance

Not only was it super effective, but I reckon it was a critical hit.

Seriously, Pokopia is the game Nintendo needed to start this year strong. Mario Tennis has fantastic gameplay and is incredibly fun as a multiplayer experience, but the game would’ve actually been better had it removed the story mode (and had they done that, it might’ve been a $50 game, which probably would’ve sold far, far better). Pokopia’s surprisingly competing with DK for being the best game launched on Switch 2 in its first calendar year.

Re: Yoshi And The Mysterious Book Estimated File Size And Price Seemingly Revealed

somnambulance

The entire family is looking forward to the game. Nintendo’s hitting the right boxes for us on the first party front this year. Hearing that this one is going to be a budget release too is wonderful news. I was going to buy it anyway, but Yoshi games tend to be short and easy, so $50 sounds super reasonable in comparison to $70. Sounds like Nintendo’s actually trying to sell more units for this one.

Re: Review: Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection (Switch 2) - Another Excellent Monstie Collecting Spin-Off

somnambulance

@ThomasBW84 Awesome! I think I’ll clear out my backlog and see where I’m at in maybe a month or two then. That demo was fantastic, but having just finished LeafGreen yesterday, I’ve found I’m not as fond of grinding levels as I was 20 years ago! Ha! Looks potentially like it may be my personal favorite Monster Hunter game yet when I do get to it though, based on everything else I’m reading.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (7th March)

somnambulance

Well, I’ve been playing Pokemon LeafGreen, and in the meantime Pokopia, Resident Evil Requiem, and Romeo is a Dead Man have stacked up. I’ve got Rubato and Life is Strange at the end of the month and potentially Crimson Desert adding depth to the pile soon. Then next month… Pragmata already preordered.

I’ll be honest, this is the worst I’ve been with keeping up with games in years, but hopefully I get some time to play because this is also the most exciting line-up I feel like I’ve had to play in a long time and I don’t think this year is going to let up for me. We’ve got another 2023 on our hands!
