Makes me really happy that so many people wants to get the Tomb Raider collection. I'm working my way through The Last Revelation and it's brilliant. The PSOne/Core Design Tomb Raiders really are something special (especially I and II - but the others are definitely worth playing too - even Chronicles is not bad at all imo).
Sounds like a fairly stressful occupation (on the plus side you probably get access to a lot of interesting/rare games at employee prices - and... get a lot of knowledge about games).
Death Trick: Double Blind is an upcoming detective/mystery visual novel that I would recommend checking out (especially if you like the Jake Hunter games).
After having played my New Nintendo 3DS XL exclusively all january, until 2 days ago, I fired up my PS Vita yesterday to play some PSOne era Tomb Raider, trying to decide whether to buy or not to buy the Tomb Raider I-III Remastered collection releasing the 14th of february.
I chose to play Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation (IV) in order not to spoil playing the remaster collection's games if I decided to get it. And after going through the initial tutorial level and the first (rather dark) tombs, I really started to dig it when I got to the jeep driving level, which was really fun.
I've made the decision, I will pre-order the remaster collection with the 10% off discount bonus in a few minutes. I've realized that these PSOne Tomb Raiders are pretty unique in what they do, and are really, really good once you properly get into them again (probably also helps that I haven't really played any of them for ten years or so).
Yet another article about the "fabled" MP4.. has anyone considered that Metroid simply isn't popular enough to carry a full AAA production game?
But hey, I know how the fans are feeling.. I would really love a new Parasite Eve game with AAA production values myself, but I also know it's not going to happen.
Nintendo is a business, not a charity organization, so they don't want to put out something that makes them loose money. They should never have announced it in the first place (but please understand).
The announcement of Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown for Switch earlier this week, spurred me to put some extra time into Ace Combat Assault Horizon Legacy+ on my New 3DS XL.
And it's has been pretty fun so far because I'm starting to get a hang of the gameplay. I'm playing at easy difficulty and with the "Normal" (easy) control scheme, and I'm more than 2/3 into the campaign now and I almost feel it's getting a bit to easy, so I might try it at normal difficulty at some later point.
The game's a remake of Ace Combat 2 with better graphics, 3D effect on the graphics, some new missions added and the new easier control scheme. I'll try to finish the campaign today (probably got 8ish missions left).
Tragi-comical really, as Nintendo could be forced to postpone the launch of the Switch 2, mainly because of the situation in the Red Sea (but also the whole mess the world is in right now - and has been in for many years really).
Aaaaannnnnd.. what would they really have to offer on the software/games front in that situation.. movies are much, much easier to distribute than games that needs dedicated hardware (made in China) to run on.
@Vyacheslav333 I have Tekken 3D Prime Edition (which is basically Tekken 6 Complete Edition). And it's actually become my favorite Fighting Game, because it has the 3D effect (that I sometimes use and sometimes don't), it's slower paced and more strategic than Street Fighter for example, plus it has touch screen controls for combos (which is great for a Fighting Game noob like me - I actually hope we get some touch screen functionality in a Switch/Switch 2 Tekken 7 too).
That's pretty cool, I didn't see that coming.
I own the 3DS one and although it's not really me, I have played it quite a bit. Will definitely consider 7 in a sale if it runs well on Switch.
Now we just need Tekken 7 Complete Edition on Switch or Switch 2 too.
As I've stated in the comments section to the equivalent article over at PushSquare, I hope the modern controls option can blow some new life into the games, as I feel the old controls are pretty archaic by now (very innovative back then - but today they feel stiff imo).
The collection is on my watch/wish list now, but I think I will wait for some qualified reviews of it before I decide whether to buy or not (and I own them on my Vita already so..).
I just use eBay (or the equivalent in my country) when I buy and sell used games. You get a lot better prices that way because there's no middleman (besides EB games closed down in my country years ago anyway).
Probably going to continue playing Tekken 3D Prime Edition on 3DS, as I want to try and move up a bit further in the ranking system. I'm at 3rd Dan now with my main character MIguel in the Quick Battle mode. But it's getting quite difficult to advance now.
@SwitchForce No, I'm talking about microSD cards. For Switch 2 it's my plan to have (hopefully) 256GB internal memory and then a 256GB microSD card as well.
I'd say 256GB, because even PS4 era games are often 50GB+ on my Steam Deck.
I got a 256GB card for my 64GB Steam Deck, because it was the sweet spot when I got my Steam Deck back in september 2022. I think 512GB cards were 3 times as expensive.
What I plan to do with the Switch 2, is that I will migrate my 256GB Steam Deck card to the Switch 2 and then buy a 512GB one for my Steam Deck (I think 512GB is probably the sweet spot price wise now).
I'm thinking of 'Dip Switch', because why not? Plus it sounds kinda cool and is nod back to arcade game cabinets of old with their DIP (dual in-line) switches.
Got back into playing my New Nintendo 3DS XL after a long hiatus this monday, and I've so far been playing Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition for a few hours.
This evening I will try to put a real effort into learning how to play Tekken 3D Prime Edition, as it seems to play very different from other fighting games that I've played.
@Ruthchild Soul Sacrifice is a PS Vita game and it's best to play the Delta version of it..
But yeah Keiji Inafune is not to scuffed about (except for Mighty No. 9 of course). He also oversaw Swedish developer Grin's development of 2009's Bionic Command and that actually turned out pretty well imo (especially when you consider Grin's track record up until then - ok they went bust after BC - but it is actually a pretty darn good game).
Gaming is totally an antisocial thing for me personally as I completely prefer to play against the computer (in reality following the rules the programmer(s) have set up in the game).
But then I also have to say that for me the ideal playtime is 12 hours a week, more than that and it starts to stress me, rather than relieve me from stress. Gaming for me is pure unadulterated escapism and nothing else, and should first and foremost be fun.
I do go for walks or ride my bike daily to stay in shape, and because it's just good for your general well being (gaming was a bit of a problem when I got my Steam Deck though, because its library is huuuuge, but I'm over that problem now, having worked my way down through it).
@Nico85 I can tell you 3 reasons why I love my Nintendo 3DS's:
Resident Evil The Mercenaries 3D (exclusive), Resident Evil Revelations (still the best platform to experience this game) and Super Street Fighter 4 3D Edition (has gorgeous 3D effect, "over the shoulder" view option and touch screen functionality for us who can't be bothered to put the time into getting the muscle memory right).
These 3 games are enough for me to love Nintendo eternally. And I do hope we can get something of the quality on the "Switch 2" (although I'm not really holding my breath with how gaming is going generally).
The question for me, is more like what a Switch 2 can offer to me personally. I'm a 100% handheld gamer these days and my Steam Deck covers a lot of ground with me not being interested in Nintendo's first party games (or PlayStation's or Xbox's).
I might wait a few years before I buy a Switch 2 anyway (but in the end it all depends on the games, doesn't it?)
I bought Gotham Knights for 9 € for my Steam Deck a week ago, and it's an ok game if you like DC Comics characters (not really an AAA game, more like AA+ imo).
But the thing is it got me back into Batman Arkham games, so I've been playing Origins, Asylum and a bit of City, and now I'm playing Knight. All true AAA experiences if you ask me (and classics too).
@Ryu_Niiyama I think Nintendo might actually be the last real stronghold for physical gaming purchases. With the games, except for a few minor patches, actually on the cartridges (and not like on PlayStation and Xbox with huuuuuuuuge mandatory downloads even when you got a physical copy - PC is like totally digital by now).
I will be playing some survival horror games over the Christmas and New Year period. I think I will start with Alan Wake and then probably proceed with Resident Evil Village and The Evil Within.
When you know the total Switch hardware sales are down from ca. 173 thousand same week (number) last year to ca. 94 thousand this week, you know that even in Japan the Switch is on its way out.
Remnant: From the Ashes (technically not a 2023 game - but it was ported to Switch in 2023 - and the only 2023 release I bought on my Switch Lite).
My Switch Lite is mostly a remaster machine I've realized a long time ago (and so is my Steam Deck - I only bought Resident Evil 4 remake for it that released this year).
I voted for Altered Beast as I really enjoyed it on the Sega Megadrive Collections. And then I would really love ports of Pengo and Zaxxon for modern systems.
Warbirds is probably the most interesting of the bunch.
I do think Circus Atari is an interesting game too though (I used to own an equivalent game for my Philips G7000 back in the day called 'Jumping Acrobats' ).
2 o'clock in the night (CET) is way past my bedtime, so I'll pass (there's probably nothing interesting for me anyway, so definitely not worth staying up for).
I bought the Evercade Cartridge Duke Nukem Collections 1 and 2 for my Hyper Mega Tech Super Pocket this week.
Unfortunately I can't really recommend the former as Duke Nukem 3D Total Meltdown has serious audio issues (at least on the Super Pocket - I can't speak for the Evercade models as I haven't tried it on those - it does seem like the Super Pocket has a different OS from the Evercade models so maybe it's a Super Pocket issue).
The issue seems to be when the game tries to play background atmosphere and music tracks from the CD rom (it's basically a PlayStation One game being emulated and that often played background sound and music directly from the CD rom, just a like regular CD player), as it often fails (and there's even really annoying "clipping" sounds from time to time).
I do recommend the second Duke Nukem collection though as there so far hasn't been any issues with the games whatsoever. And Duke Nukem Advance (originally a Gameboy Advance game as the the title would imply) and Time to Kill (originally a PSOne game) are both pretty good and enjoyable games that are nice to have on a handheld (Land of the Babes haven't got the best rep I know - but I haven't really looked into that yet, so I can't say if it's worth playing).
I got myself a Super Pocket Taito Edition 1½ week ago and have really put a lot of hours into the 18 built in Taito games, and now I'm a bit burned out on it (I'm waiting for the release of Duke Nukem Collection 2 Evercade cartridge this tuesday).
I did manage to get so hyped for Taito games though, that I bought the Taito Milestones collection on sale for my Switch Lite. It has 10 games (3 of which are also on the Super Pocket Taito Edition).
And I got to say that out of the total of 25 different Taito games I now own, The Fairyland Story is my favorite. It's sort of the older and less successful (and less silly imo) cousin to Bubble Bobble.
It has great music, lots of levels (100 I think) and I just don't seem to really grow tired of it (I've made it to level 12 now - with 5 lives though). It's just a really fun game that plays a bit like Bubble Bobble, so that's probably what I'll be playing a bit more this weekend.
I'll be playing the Death Trick: Double Blind demo some more. It kind of reminds me of the Jake Hunter games, which is a good thing, but still it manages to be it's own thing. Will definitely get the full game when it releases next year.
Then I'll continue playing some old arcade games on my Hyper Mega Tech Super Pocket Taito Edition that I got on release this tuesday. There are some really good games on it. So far my favorites are Elevator Action; The Fairyland Story; The New Zealand Story; Volfied and The Legend of Kage.
I'm playing Elex on my Steam Deck. Seems to be a sort of a mix between The Elder Scrolls and Fallout series thematically; a big meteor hit the planet and turned it into a wasteland.
One group of people who doesn't like technology use magic to restore the nature and live medieval lives. Another group of people swear to technology. And a third group are kinda outlaws. The three groups are all enemies of each others.
Then there's a fourth group that are into drugs to make themselves powerful, that is feared and hated by all the rest.
The game has a reputation of being really difficult the first 30 hours or, and yeah, it's probably true. But at least you have a jetpack that gives you some sort of advantage (the game seems to be more about avoiding enemies than actually confronting them).
Oh, and it's an open world western RPG, if you haven't figured that out yet.
I'd keep it for sentimental reason; for playing games that runs at 60 fps on it; to free up space on the Switch 2 (i.e. not having to buy as big a memory card for it) plus I have a Switch Lite and it probably wouldn't be worth a lot (plus plus, I regretted selling my 3DS XL when I bought a New 3DS XL).
The number of PS3/Xbox 360 era games I've revisited with high settings and 60 fps on my Steam Deck is quite astounding. Some of them I'm done with as they haven't aged that well, but others I will return to.
Even most of the PS4 (some of them also available on PS5) era games are running surprisingly well on the Steam Deck (Resident Evil Village is close to 60 fps with reasonably high settings and so is Elex for example).
Others like RE 4 remake are sadly not so well optimized and you have to turn down settings quite a lot (there's even a certain area that runs equally bad in both the main game and in the Ada DLC - don't know what it is other than bad optimizing).
All in all Steam Deck has been really good to me (approaching 650 hours of playtime in just over a year and a month); it really has saved my gaming a** this last year or so (but then again I can live without an OLED screen - I think LCD screens are looking just fine).
My gut feeling (if you really want to know) is that Nintendo are trying to turn themselves further into a multimedia conglomerate; after cutting their teeth on the Mario movie and smelling blood (pardon my language - but I was asked about my gut feelings).
So now they try with their second most suited (and right now most popular) gaming franchise. They might smell blood again, but this time there's a slight risque it might be from their own stomach ulcer and not from another juicy steak.
@Grumblevolcano Now Nintendo has said things before, where they changed their mind(s) later (DS was the "third pillar" but it soon ended being a real successor the Gameboy Advance for example).
But that's only one thing; the lineup for 2023-24 is pretty niche if you ask me. Some remakes and some new games featuring some side characters, not exactly games that are going to sell 10s of Millions. A typical end of the line lineup, that could spell a new console coming sooner than you think
@Dr_Lugae Hardware sales are down from 3.91 million in Q1 to 2.93 million in Q2 plus TotK sold 18.5 million in Q1 and less than a million in Q2. So I really don't know if you're right.
Something is cooking; why do they put Q1 and 2 sales numbers together? Would showing the Q2 numbers alone not look so good?
You do have to consider that these financial reports are aimed at investors primarily. And it's important for any company that can you buy stocks in, to appease stock owners so they don't start selling stocks in large quantities.
I predict the reveal of the Switch successor to be very soon, maybe next tuesday already, to make the investors convinced Nintendo is still capable of turning in big profits.
@jetsetradion For reference Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (a 6.5 years old game based on a 9.5 year old game) sold more than 1.5 million units in the same period (july 1st till september 30th) as TotK selling a million.
Totk is the sequel to very revered game, so no wonder that it was very "top heavy" sales wise.
I hate to be the hair in soup, but going from selling 18.5 million units in just over 1½ month (may 12th till june 30th), and then selling just short of 1 million the next 3 month (july 1st till september 30th), IS a pretty steep decline.

Death Trick: Double Blind is an upcoming detective/mystery visual novel that I would recommend checking out (especially if you like the Jake Hunter games).
There's a demo up on eShop you can download.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (November 18th)
Re: Poll: So, How Would You Rate That Nintendo Indie World Showcase?
Death Trick: Double Blind looked interesting (and there's a demo up later today it seems), so it exceeded my expectations. I would say good.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (November 11th)
Re: Talking Point: If 'Switch 2' Is Backwards Compatible, What Will You Do With Your Switch?
I'd keep it for sentimental reason; for playing games that runs at 60 fps on it; to free up space on the Switch 2 (i.e. not having to buy as big a memory card for it) plus I have a Switch Lite and it probably wouldn't be worth a lot (plus plus, I regretted selling my 3DS XL when I bought a New 3DS XL).
Re: Valve Announces Steam Deck OLED, Says Switch OLED Paved The Way
The number of PS3/Xbox 360 era games I've revisited with high settings and 60 fps on my Steam Deck is quite astounding.
Re: Reaction: What's Your Gut Feeling On The Zelda Movie News?
My gut feeling (if you really want to know) is that Nintendo are trying to turn themselves further into a multimedia conglomerate; after cutting their teeth on the Mario movie and smelling blood (pardon my language - but I was asked about my gut feelings).
So now they try with their second most suited (and right now most popular) gaming franchise. They might smell blood again, but this time there's a slight risque it might be from their own stomach ulcer and not from another juicy steak.
(ok I'll let myself out - just couldn't resist)
Re: Site News: Nintendo Life Turns 18 Today
Congratulations! You have done well.
Re: Nintendo Records Biggest Q1+2 Sales Figures Since Switch Launch
@Grumblevolcano Now Nintendo has said things before, where they changed their mind(s) later (DS was the "third pillar" but it soon ended being a real successor the Gameboy Advance for example).
But that's only one thing; the lineup for 2023-24 is pretty niche if you ask me. Some remakes and some new games featuring some side characters, not exactly games that are going to sell 10s of Millions. A typical end of the line lineup, that could spell a new console coming sooner than you think
Re: Nintendo Records Biggest Q1+2 Sales Figures Since Switch Launch
@Dr_Lugae Hardware sales are down from 3.91 million in Q1 to 2.93 million in Q2 plus TotK sold 18.5 million in Q1 and less than a million in Q2. So I really don't know if you're right.
Re: Nintendo Records Biggest Q1+2 Sales Figures Since Switch Launch
Something is cooking; why do they put Q1 and 2 sales numbers together? Would showing the Q2 numbers alone not look so good?
You do have to consider that these financial reports are aimed at investors primarily. And it's important for any company that can you buy stocks in, to appease stock owners so they don't start selling stocks in large quantities.
I predict the reveal of the Switch successor to be very soon, maybe next tuesday already, to make the investors convinced Nintendo is still capable of turning in big profits.
Re: Tears Of The Kingdom Continues To Prove That 'Open World Zelda' Is A Best-Selling Formula
Re: Tears Of The Kingdom Continues To Prove That 'Open World Zelda' Is A Best-Selling Formula
I hate to be the hair in soup, but going from selling 18.5 million units in just over 1½ month (may 12th till june 30th), and then selling just short of 1 million the next 3 month (july 1st till september 30th), IS a pretty steep decline.
