Definitely tempting as the PS4 remaster was so much better than the PS3 version (fair price point too). Will wait for review/performance analysis though.
It does come with the US arcade versions of Dig Dug and Xevious also (that are "qualified" for this collection, because they were published by Atari, I believe).
@Zeebor15 First: there are 13 other games in the very, very popular franchises Pac-Man (best-selling arcade machine ever - over a million sold), Galaxian (In the top 10), Galaga (very, very popular), Xevious (very, very popular) and Dig-Dug (also an all time classic). Second: I'm personally looking forward to try out the infamous Atari 2600 Pac-Man (that was just a prototype, but was forced out by management/marketing), because all aspects of videogaming interests me.
@Zeebor15 Just see a as curiosity. With 8 million copies of it sold for platform that sold 30 million units it IS an important part of videogame history (and that IS a fact!).
@Colinjames If there'll be another videogame crash it will be in the adult oriented AAA space I believe, not because of a brilliant priced DLC like this (14 games all from very popular franchises AND 2 of the games are even arcade versions that alone cost almost twice as much as the entire DLC in their Arcade Archives versions).
Nice to finally have a release date (the Atari 50 collection was updated with fairly large update a couple of days ago, but you couldn't buy the expansion yet). Nice price point too, very fair for what it is imo.
My main issue atm is audio volume being very low in some of the games. Overall the audio volume is low on Switch Lite, but that's a general problem with retro collections/Hamster releases in my experience (they could add a lower difficulty level in the arcade versions mainly, like Capcom did in their Fighting Games collections, also).
Machine storming is back, I guess; it has always been this way with new technologies and uncharted territoris. The politicians leave it all relatively unregulated for the first many years, because they don't want to kill innovation, and therefore it's always a bit like the Wild West the first many years; just look at how many unathorized clones even big companies made of other companies games well into the 1980's.
As I don't play online, I would give it 9/10 (like Pushsquare) for the sheer amount of kontent (games, interviews etc.), and for the fact that even the Gameboy and Gameboy Advance games are really great fun.
Actually new games/experiences (non remasters/remakes), one every 2 years the last 4½ years (I actually made a list a few years on how many day one games I've bought each year since 2007 - it peaked in 2011 with 7).
Capcom seems to be very stingy with showing anything of any real substance. If this is supposed to be gameplay, it might as well be an interactive movie or a walking simulator. Lets see some combat ffs.
I've been thinking.. maybe I should "give" myself a Switch 2 for Xmas, if there's is a good Black Friday deal.
Because I do want to support Nintendo as I trust them most in the end and I want them to succeed (and they're quite amicable - although Steam is good too).
But 7/10 because RE9 is coming day one to the console (I just hope it will be well optimized - one of the reasons I might want to buy early).
But a slight price reduction would go a long way..
Not sold on Requiem yet from what Capcom have shown (and more stalking enemies apparantly ). But now that it might be coming to PS4, I might give it a go if it's 60 € or less for a physical copy, as I would be able to recoup a large portion of my investment, if I tire of it quickly.
@shgamer To answer my own first comment (#11) and having just played 'Cold Fear' on my Steam Deck:
Yeah the game definitely needs another control option/mode like the one in 'Resident Evil: Revelations'; camera behind the player at a fixed position at all times; over the shoulder view when you raise your weapon and aim while being able to move slowly at the same time; and strafe naturally at all times.
@hisownsidekick Yes, AitD: The New Nightmare is very impressive technically, but was unfortunately delayed (probably for that very reason). And came out very late in the PSOne's life, when the classic AitD/Resident 1-3 pre-rendered formula was on its way out (and bombed commercially I suspect).
Cold Fear was also very technically impressive for its time, giving a very good impression of being onboard a ship in the middle of a storm.
@hisownsidekick The first developer of 'I Am Alive', Darkworks, actually also made 'Cold Fear' (mentioned in the article also) and before that 'Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare' (both are worth checking out if you like classic survival horror games).
If they could add an over the shoulder view only option for Cold Fear I would buy it again. As it is now, with over the shoulder view only when you aim your gun, it's just too frustrating to play imo.
Maybe they go for quality over quantity in this, frankly, very early phase of the Switch 2's life? Better to have fewer, but actually good games, than tons of showelware. Maybe they are just cherry picking what they consider good projects/games?
Interesting that the new "lead" of RE9/Requiem, Grace Ashcroft, sits between the "original 5" (you could add Wesker, Barry and Rebecca to that list, I guess) from the first 2 games. Maybe these characters will somehow feature in the new game?
Resident Evil 4 remake should be on that list, alone because the OG was on a Nintendo console first. Other than that.. nah, I have a Steam Deck and already have the few game on the list I want.
For some reason I got the collection/remasters for free on Steam. It was just added to my library (probably because I already own Hexen and its expansion pack - but nice anyway).
I've only played Hexen so far and it's really, really good with twin stick control and all. So thank you id/Bethesda/Microsoft for this nice gesture .
Played Hexen on PS One and liked it quite a lot despite the controls being far from perfect. Heretic I never played but I just watched a Youtube video and it looks like a medieval reskin of Doom (1) too me.
Will wait for a 50% off sale, because I'm only really interested in Hexen as it has much more interesting gameplay imo (melee combat, platforming, actual challenging puzzles etc.).
The smallest size Express SD cart (which is what physical Switch 2 games comes on) is 64GB. Nintendo doesn't make those themselves and must buy what is available on the market. These cost $17 a piece compared to a $ or 2 for a Blueray disc so go figure why most 3rd party publishers uses Game Key Cards on Switch.
I would say the Steam Deck even today (and compared to Switch 2) still is a very powerful handheld. In my experience it runs PS4 era games at much higher framerates than on the PS4 itself.
Newer PS5 era games it starts to struggle a bit with if they're not well optimised.
I just bought the Oblivion remaster and it's quite passable on Steam Deck. I even turned up Draw Distance and Texture Quality up to high from low, because it did look a bit too simplistic on low settings. It didn't really affect the framerate which sits at around 30 when you're outdoors (and more when you're indoors).
All in all the Steam Deck still holds up quite well imo.
I've taken a bit of break from gaming the last 2½ week (only played an hour of Resident Evil VII). I haven't really spent any money on games since I bought Capcom Fighting Collection 2 mid may.
It's been really good for my wallet, except I just bought a Squier Classic Vibe 50s Telecaster electric guitar (that will hopefully be delievered next week), as it sounds pretty good and has a good price point.
I'm sure I will get back to gaming eventually, but it's been quite nice taking a breather from it. Today I'll be watching Wimbledon as there'll be 2 danes in action (Clara Tauson, a fairly high ranked female player, and overnight late bloomer (27 years old) sensation, August Holmgren).
As for Nintendo gaming I'm pretty sure there'll be a september Direct with lots of games revealed for the holiday season.
I'll be continuing my "Handheld Fighting Game Quest" where I just reached the "beginning of the end" (meaning I'm over 2/3 through - close to 470 hours - with the goal being 700 hours).
I've been concentrating on the Marvel vs. Capcom collection and the recently released Capcom Fighting Collection 2 lately. They are both very solid collections imo (although I do prefer the latter as I find it more "ballsy" - the Marvel one is almost too "mainstream" imo - almost on a Disney level mainstream).
Switch 2 is in its very early days and though I was a bit tempted a couple of days ago, in the end I figured it wouldn't make sense for me personally to buy one as of now. But good for those who enjoy it with its current library .
@skwaark It's the Switch's extra cpu/gpu power that opens up the "bottlenecks" and allows for better performance overall. Textures (graphic fidelity) is still the same (unless the data are "prepared" for better hardware) so it's still a matter of how the games were programmed/prepared for better hardware (Arkham Knight seems to have a framerate cap of 30 fps from what I understand, and therefore need a patch for unlocking the framerate plus a high resolution texture pack to really benefit from the more poweful hardware - and some fix to the crashing issues).
@DTfearTheBEARD Nice to know. I'm really tempted into buying a Switch 2 tomorrow, as there seems to be one retailer (a toy store chain) here in Denmark, that still has quite few available (today is a holiday in Denmark so it hasn't been open for business).
I watched most of the James Bond movies available at the time, during summer cavalcades in the local cinemas back when I was 15-16 years old in 1983-84.
And I got to say that I always liked the Roger Moore "slapstick"/more self ironic movies, more than the Sean Connery ones, as imo they were just more fun in an 'over the top' way (after the Roger Moore movies I lost interest in the franchise - although I did watch Goldeneye on TV and found it really good).
Then back in 2017 I by chance discovered that the newspaper strips (1958-1983) were really good (well written - and drawn - especially the ones drawn by Yaroslav Horak) and I bought reprinted collections of them all.
The odd thing is that James Bond is not portrayed as this "woman seducer/abuser", like he is in the movies, in the newpaper strips. He does get laid at the end of the stories, but only after he has "earned" it by saving his "partner".
It has to be said that the newspaper strips ended up having quite a lot of female nudity from the mid 60's to the early/mid 70's, but I guess it was kind of a sign of the time. AND the fact that one of the main competitors on the British newspaper strips scene 'Garth' also had a lot of nudity at the time.
THE main competitor to the James Bond newspaper strips 'Modesty Blaise' (basically a female version of James Bond), sure had hints of nudity, but never went "full monty" so to speak (brilliant series in its own way btw).
I admit I'm in the lukewarm corner when it comes to the Switch 2 (as I was with the Switch too - only bought a Switch Lite in march 2020 - never really was an very early adopter type).
My main problem is that my Switch Lite already has been a 95% remaster/port machine, AND I'm REALLY running out of old games I can't live without.
And as I have a Steam Deck I'm pretty much updated with the few newer (let's say less than 5 years old) games that has interested me in that period (which aren't that many tbh).
But... maybe when/if the Switch 2 Lite (probably) comes out fall 2027 with a proper D-pad, no stick drifting, smaller price point (probably also smaller screen - but I'm ok with that), it'd possibly sway me over (until then I'd imagine I'd stay sceptical, but hopeful).
Procedural Generation is done by making an algorithm, where you can input values for a certain number of parameters plus maybe adding some level of randomness to it also.
Then you experiment with the values and the randomness (which could also be input as values) until you get as close to the desired/optimal result as possible.
Yes, Capcom Fighting Collection 2 is definitely one of the 2 best Capcom Fighting Games collections on Switch (I don't know if I think it's better than the Marvel collection though, as I haven't got a real grasp on the gameplay in those games yet).
Street Fighters 30th Anniversary collection is a bit barebones lacking the QoL improvements the other 3 collections have (and only has 4 games you can play on-line). And not being a huge fan of the Darkstalkers games Fighting Collection (1) felt a bit lacking (although it has the best version of Street Fighter II outside Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers imo).
Looking forward to the 40th Anniversary Street Fighter collection with QoL improvements and Street Fighter IV "sub-series" added at the very least, in 2027 .
I've played more on my Switch Lite this year than ever and Capcom Fighting Collection 2 unlocks tomorrow, so no. Plus I have a wait and see stance to the Switch 2 so far (and would probably prefer a Switch 2 Lite).
With Street Fighter being my favorite Fighting Game series (Hyper Street Fighter II: The Anniversary Edition being by far my favorite in Capcom Fighting Collection (1)), I can't wait to try out Capcom Fighting Evolution and see if it's as bad as it's portrayed (or it might actually turn out to be fun).
Street Fighter Alpha 3 Upper is of course another main reason why I pre-ordered the collection (though I've already played the original arcade game and the PSP 'Max' version a lot).
But also the 2 Capcom vs. SNK games are interesting as I've never played them before (the rest of the games will be nice to try out and probably end up being the cherries on the cake).
So the Switch 2 has 8 CPU cores while the Switch has 4. They both run on more or less the same speed (MHz), but the Switch 2 has 128 bit memory/interface which should mean it should be able to move twice as much data per cycle as the Switch's 64 bit system.
Then the Switch 2 has a newer processor (CPU) with DLSS upscaling, ray tracing etc. and the GPU has 6 times as many CUDA cores (whatever that means) at a close to 50% increased speed (MHz) (docked at least).
All in all the Switch 2 probably really IS 10 times as powerfull as the Switch (as I read someplace, some time). So Nintendo are probably good.
I've been working on my 2D Fighting Games backlog since Easter really; paving the way for the 40 € purchase of Capcom Fighting Collection 2 I will probably make this friday.
I felt slightly burned with my pre-order and purchase of the Marvel vs. Capcom collection in september, but I'm sure I'll get my money's worth in the end.
It's just going to take some time as the games play quite differently from what I'm used to (not a huge Marvel fan either - but at least I learned that the X-Men are quite OK imo).
The last 2½ year I've actually spend just as much (if not more) on hardware as I have on games. I got a Steam Deck in september 2022 (419€) - and my second Wii U the month before (100€) - the Taito Edition of Super Pocket in november 2023 (60€ + p&p), an old ZX Spectrum 48k rubber keys directly from England + accessories around may 2024 (almost 200€ including taxes, p&p, etc.), the Technos Edition of Super Pocket november 2024 (60€ + p&p), 'The Spectrum' a modern recreation of the 48k Spectrum, I bought in may, in december 2024 (almost 120€) (Yeah, I feel kind of dumb buying the original half a year earlier.. but at least I can try an sell it) AND this april I finally caved in and bought an Evercade EXP R (and a Tate grip) because it was discounted (around 140€).
Last year I spend around 410€ on games and this year I've spent around 115€ so far. The last full price, new release, I bought was Alone in the Dark for 54€ (10€ release discount) on my Steam Deck march 2024 (and though I liked it, I do feel like it was too expensive for what it is, being a digital copy an all). The rest I've spend more or less on remaster/ports/emulated version of 20-30-40 years old games.
Yeah, I've definitely changed my spending habits gradually over the last 7-8 years, more and more moving backwards and trying out a lot of older games/new genres more than ever before.
I'm so old that I clearly remember when the internet wasn't a thing (and I had an internet connection first time all the way back in 1996 when I was 28).
And the thing I've always had with the internet is that it's main appeal is that it's free; sure I've paid for a YouTube ad free subscription for a while once, donated money to wikipedia 5-6 times and once to Mozilla, and I subscribe to the internet version of a "serious" newspaper (I need some relatively trustworthy information about what's going on).
But for me the internet will always be something I do not want to pay for in 999 out of 1000 instances (I don't use adblockers though as I don't want to be "nasty" - but I rarely click on any of the ads as they rarely interests me).
But, yeah, even Nintendolife, and its sister sites PushSquare, Eurogamer, TimeExtension and PureXbox, which I visit on an daily basis to (I've always been especially drawn towards British "intellectual offerings", for reasons I don't fully understand other than they seem to be very thorough in what they do), I don't see as life important.
They can quite often be very entertaining and informative, but also very time consuming for someone like me who are so passionate about videogames and often want to "speak out" so to say.
But I must admit gaming has slowly been winding down for me for a decade or more now. I haven't bought any new games for over a year now (and the last one was quite old school and of course bombed commercially).
I have bought tons of remasters/ports/emulated games from 20-30-40 years ago especially the last 2 or 3 years though. But I'm definitely getting to the point sometime within this year and the next, that I simply won't have that much "new" stuff to dig into and will have to rely more and more on true classics (imo of course).
And even those I will probably tire of, and then I won't really need sites like Nintendolife anymore tbh )
This is very convenient for me if I eventually decide to buy a Switch 2, as I have at least one arcade games collection where some of the games are best best played on my Switch Lite (proper D-pad) and some better on the Switch 2's larger screen (vertically oriented shumps especially).

Re: Feature: Farewell, Nintendo Switch - It's Finally Time To Bid Our Old Friend 'Adieu'
"The King is dead! Long live the King!"
Re: Street Fighter 6 Somehow Combines Game-Key Card And Code-In-A-Box On Switch 2
Nice that the base game is only 40 € on Switch (the same as on Steam just recently). No Nintendo tax here at least!
Re: Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Dev Used Procedural Generation To Manage 100,000 Different Assets
Procedural Generation is done by making an algorithm, where you can input values for a certain number of parameters plus maybe adding some level of randomness to it also.
Then you experiment with the values and the randomness (which could also be input as values) until you get as close to the desired/optimal result as possible.
Re: Japanese Charts: Capcom Fighting Collection 2 Brawls Its Way To The Top
Re: Mario + Rabbids Dev Is Hiring For A New 'AAA' Rayman Game
I'd buy an Origins port for Switch in a sale because I quite liked the 3DS version (Legends on my Vita I wasn't a fan of though).
Re: Talking Point: Are You Ghosting Switch 1 To Save Yourself For Switch 2?
I've played more on my Switch Lite this year than ever and Capcom Fighting Collection 2 unlocks tomorrow, so no. Plus I have a wait and see stance to the Switch 2 so far (and would probably prefer a Switch 2 Lite).
Re: Review: Capcom Fighting Collection 2 (Switch) - A Cracking Collection Of Top-Class Arcade Fighters
Re: Nintendo Switch 2 Final Tech Specs Have Been Confirmed

@DonkeyKongBigBoy And it's become even worse for "physical lovers":

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (10th May)
I've been working on my 2D Fighting Games backlog since Easter really; paving the way for the 40 € purchase of Capcom Fighting Collection 2 I will probably make this friday.
Re: Talking Point: With Prices Rising, Are Your Gaming Habits Changing?
Re: Editorial: Gamers, Support The People And Sites You Love, Before It's Too Late
Re: PSA: You Can Still Play One Game Across Two Switches, But Not Online Anymore
@PerfectFrost Ok, guess I'm still learning, but never had more than one Switch (Lite) so far.
Re: Talking Point: Will You Be Buying Any Game-Key Card Switch 2 Games?
Digital is much more convenient (and I expect the resell value being not great).
Re: PSA: You Can Still Play One Game Across Two Switches, But Not Online Anymore
@PikminMarioKirby Mario Kart World is already cheaper digitally than physically in my country, 599 DK vs. 699 DK.
Re: PSA: You Can Still Play One Game Across Two Switches, But Not Online Anymore
This is very convenient for me if I eventually decide to buy a Switch 2, as I have at least one arcade games collection where some of the games are best best played on my Switch Lite (proper D-pad) and some better on the Switch 2's larger screen (vertically oriented shumps especially).
