@sethfranum A lot of people don't care or assume that it was just weeded from a library collection. When we dealt with a similar issue we made sure to reach out to every store in the area that bought used games for resale with photos of how we processed and labelled our games. The guy just switched to selling online instead.
Public librarian from the US here who runs her library's gaming collection. We had this issue in my state, too. Almost a decade ago now iirc. Guy got around $20k worth of games from a number of local libraries, mine included. We even stopped lending out games to patrons from outside of our community for a few years and he started recruiting people off of Craigslist to get a library card, check out games, give them to him, and then never go back to the library again. It ended up with this ridiculous court case, very limited borrowing privileges for games for several years, a few libraries getting rid of their gaming collections altogether, and finally the guy getting off scott-free while his girlfriend took the fall for him. It was a whole mess and resulted in a lot of people not being able to check out games from their libraries. It was a nightmare.
On a more positive note; if you would like your library to consider adding games or adding games for a particular console, there are a lot of ways to go about it! Libraries respond really well to written suggestions or ones submitted via email or the library website. If your library is smaller and has less funding, then you could offer to work with them to fundraise for the start of the new collection. You can also look around for other libraries in your area that may send out their games or allow patrons outside of their communities to check them out.
Tempting for the color schemes at that price point given that it's basically another set of joycons for those of us who play undocked. I also find my Switch more comfortable to hold than my Steam Deck so I hope this doesn't bulk the device up too much (although I usually get used to playing on my Deck pretty quickly, just takes a few minutes to get used to it each time).
Whelp, no Genesect or Volcanion for me. Or shiny litwik in Pokemon Go for that matter--my brother's getting married Saturday lol. I probably wouldn't be able to get to a GameStop until Monday and my local ones run out super quickly.
@SeantheDon29 I bet we can thank Platinum. SE doesn't have the most solid history in regards to Switch ports--they've been known in the past to invest the bare mininum rather than work to optimize games for the new platforms. The TWEWY port was lifted wholesale from it's mobile version, which makes sense because of the single-screen adaptation but the fact that they barely touched the control scheme and made it basically unplayable in docked mode not so much. Platinum has a close working relationship with Nintendo so I assume they'd be more closely invested in making sure that this game stands well amongst the rest of their Switch releases.
While to SE's credit they do port a lot of their games and it's great that it means that more people can play them, it seems like they trade-off the quality in a number of cases.
It's amazing how much content you can fit in a game that size or smaller. I got hundreds of hours out of some FE games. I was thinking about that while I was downloading Horizon Zero Dawn on my Deck yesterday, which is a jaw-dropping 70 GB--I'll probably get about the same number of hours or fewer on that, and it's just something that I find really interesting.
I don't mind that--60 fps actually makes me feel kind of nauseous. I generally get used to it but it's not a fun gameplay experience for the first fifteen minutes or so. I've been throttling the fps down to 40 max on my Deck and I quite like the flexibility. If this runs smoothly and looks good on the Switch, and is actually fun, then I'll pick it up on Switch for the physical cartridge.
This was a lovely little game, but I think it was probably a better fit for the phone. If you haven't played it yet, I recommend giving it a try regardless of how you play it, though.
Maybe Hisuian form Pokemon are going to be transferable to Sword and Shield? I really can't imagine more content for the game after the DLC and the complete version cartridge. Might just be wishful thinking because I don't want to have to buy ANOTHER complete version for work if there's more DLC, though.
@abdias The Vanillite line gets a lot of undeserved hate. It's not really out of place in the Pokemon World--there are Pokemon based off of gears, piles of mud, literal garbage bags, bells, magnets, sandcastles, dollops of whipped cream, keychains, and Pokeballs. There's also the entire rotom family. Nobody likes every Pokemon design, that's fine, but every Pokemon has someone who likes them. I think the Vanillite line is fun, but that's just my personal opinion too.
He also designed Shadow Lugia which is popularly considered badass among the Pokemon fandom.
@Scapetti He's been pretty thoroughly cancelled at this point and so cut off from his own properties that he's not going to see a cent from this. Of course someone as scummy as him could always be more cancelled IMO.
@Ogbert If Eliza's in the game then Darwin will probably show up as part of her moveset. Given her abilities in the show, it'd make sense for her to summon animals to fight for her in the game, ala Pokemon Trainer in Smash. Plus the game could use more girl characters.
@mr-duster there was a heartwarming moment between Leon and Charizard that I liked, but I don't really think they could have done much with this one. There just... isn't much to Leon's story arc. maybe if they had used a different character for the POV, like Hop, there would have been more to get invested in. This is really just Leon moping in a locker room. I'm more optimistic for the next one, though, I think that even with the short runtime they can tell a strong story with the Alolan characters. Lillie has one of the best stories in all of the mainline games.
@Pokester99 My Switch in the deluxe traveler's case fits in my purse as though it were custom-made for it, it's perfect, so it's pretty portable for me.
Men should get to carry purses and bags around as the default like women do, it's great. And women should get actual functional pockets. The best of both worlds for everyone.
I don’t see this as an issue. Apple Arcade games are generally timed exclusives and many jump to Switch after that period ends.
Plus, I have Arcade (for exactly that reason, actually, it’s saved me a lot of money on great indies that were also released on Switch), so I’m set lol.
I hope they still get Platinum to develop any potential sequels. It wouldn’t be the same experience without Platinum’s trademark chaos. Loved the game and would like to see the IP continue, to be sure!
Neat! I have a friend with color blindness who absolutely loves this game, glad to see the dev team loving him and other colorblind players back (despite the tasteless comment ruining it all a bit).
Not really much different than the fine art market if you think about it. It’s all based on perceived/intrinsic value, not the actual worth of the materials involved.
I have Spiritfarer and Shantae, am looking forward to getting the Ori games and KRZ, and am waiting on a physical edition for Hades. Good games all around!
@Trajan Body dysmorphia is discussed in the DSM-5, but not gender dysmorphia. Gender dysphoria IS, but it’s not the same as being transgender (although transgender individuals often suffer from gender dysphoria). DSM publications are changed for a number of reasons, primarily new knowledge, but good luck getting the global body of an entire medical field to bend to the whims of one or two political bodies (especially given how many governments still view trans individuals similarly—or even more cruelly—to you).
Still, I suppose it’s clear at this you’re not going to try and take this opportunity to learn something new. Which is a shame, but the only one who can change someone’s mind is that someone themself. I hope you revisit this topic with a much more understanding viewpoint in the future, and open your heart to those who are different from you. Hopefully you’ll have a good, long life full of many good video games during which to do so.
@Trajan But... being transgender isn’t a mental illness or disorder? While many trans individuals lead tough lives, which results in a higher propensity towards mental health issues like depression, the DSM-5 specifically states that “gender non-conformity is not in itself a mental disorder” and the APA along with other internationally-recognized authorities on psychiatric care and sciences have unequivocally weighed in on the side of trans rights. Are you a leading expert on mental health, that you can argue against the DSM-5, the allegorical Bible of mental health care and diagnosis?
@Razer, Caitlyn was always a woman. She just needed to come to terms with it herself and come out about it. Marrying into the Kardashian family had absolutely nothing to do with it. You don’t TURN trans, you ARE trans. It’s like being on any other part of the LGBTQIA+ spectrum, it’s a part of who you are from the start.
@HotGoomba___Rebrand @TheSmashTheorist @Tourtus There are specials on HBO Max. A BMO one, and next up we’re getting a Bubbline one. Google Adventure Time Distant Lands.
@Pres_Shinra That could actually work well for the setting, although I wouldn’t buy it lol.
@XBontendo The Switch version has terrible controls (it was a port of the mobile version, which worked fine on mobile but not so much on console). That being said no game is for everyone. Still, if you ever get a chance try the DS one.
Does this DEFINITELY include the DLC on the physical cartridge (ala Torna) and not as a download code? If so I'll need to buy these for work to swap for our regular versions of the games, if not I can't.
This was a really good, thoughtful apology and I’m glad they’re addressing the issue. This game just jumped up on my priority list.
@status-204 The team wasn’t pushed into it. They saw concerns being raised by a member of their community of fans and are taking steps to address those concerns of their own volition.
I enjoyed this game! It was pretty glitchy and the the visuals on the Switch were disappointing, but it had some really clever ideas and was good at manipulating you. Plus Bullet. Bullet is the goodest boy.
