Remember when Square Enix teased something related to its popular Nintendo DS RPG The World Ends With You not so long ago? It turned out to be an anime, but now the company is back with another tease.
A new teaser site opened today, complete with a countdown. A link to the site was shared by Square Enix's 1st Production Twitter account, which is also using one of the pins from The World Ends With You as its Twitter avatar. There's nothing more to go on, outside of some cool music, but this is sure to get chins wagging, especially when you consider how popular the game is.
Originally released on the DS in 2008, The World Ends With You was updated for Switch in 2018. What do you think this tease could be related to?

There are theories that Sora is in the reapers game....
I've only ever played the Switch version and wow did this game not live up to the hype
I hope it is Kingdom Hearts: the Reaper's Game.
Or Neku in Smash Bros., but that is too much to hope for.
I'm not falling for this one again.
Either World Ends with You Too for Switch or a Kingdom Hearts side game about Sora playing the Reaper's Game
Or more realistically, an English dub for the anime
@XBontendo did you play handheld mode or docked?
Regardless, the DS version remains the ideal way to play this game imo.
@hesam7 I don't trust that link whatsoever
Yay, more repackaging and selling again as if it’s different. As Ben up there said, not gonna fall for this one!
@hesam7 I think everybody else’s fascination with security will prevent them from clicking your spam link.
Is it not just the anime? Absolutely most likely just the anime.
@C-Olimar Tried both, it wasn't great regardless
"The upcoming animation will be viewable early for Switch owners and released on all major platforms and services on ___."
That's what I expect given how the last countdown went down.
@nessisonett It's possibly just the anime... but we already have previews, a release date, confirmation of where it'll be streaming etc. I don't know what else they could announce for that.
Chances are it's a new IOS port of the final remix content or something.
@link3710 It could be an English dub maybe?
@link3710 Given almost every 3rd party Switch exclusive has gone to PC, perhaps TWEWY for PC?
Please do Nier
This is definitely going to be about the anime.
Let’s see...PC port, mobile port, OST, anime news...in other words anything but a sequel cuz squeenix.
I’d like to be wrong though.
Please don't be the one Nomura game on Switch.

@XBontendo ahh fairs. Its not for everyone I guess.
I just never got into the fighting system in the first game. Am i just not having any talent with this or is it genuinely a problem?
I am unsure if i would pick up a sequel, only if i get through the first game which was fun except the gameplay
Its obviously a rhythm-based visual novel about the events leading up to the world ends with you featuring characters you never see in the game and ending with a twist that works in contradiction to the events of the game, as well as a poorly implemented pachinko mini-game where you can unlock crappy deviant art furries of the cast of the visual novel- but not the game proper. That’ll be 49.99, please.
@XBontendo The game was poorly ported to the switch. But the design, story and soundtrack are still amazing
Unfortunately to me, I bet its a rhythm game.
I don't buy it. This would be what? The third time they've teased like this? the 4th?
@XBontendo if you have any interest in the game , I would recommend getting the DS version only. The iOS port had to strip down the original game concepts so you only focus on playing one character really. In comparison the DS game had you controlling two different characters completely. The switch version has the unfortunate side effect of merely being a part of the most recent version aka the iOS version. Combine that with the poor motion controls and I have had absolutely no interest in getting TWEWY on switch.
@Solaine the question unfortunately becomes did you play the DS version or one of the others. If you played one of the others I would recommend possibly looking into the DS version. If you played the DS version already, I would say to just spam buttons for the Ally and focus on the bottom screen. Once you have enough attacks you are familiar with with a cool down that supports one another, then try keeping an eye on the top screen.
One thing I would recommend at that point, try to gather clothing that gives free stars to your partner. With plus two or three, getting the bonus attack is relatively quick, but it also helps teach you how to get those stars in battle much easier.
Can't wait for the announcement of a new range of TWEWY Funko Pop figurines
@Pres_Shinra That could actually work well for the setting, although I wouldn’t buy it lol.
@XBontendo The Switch version has terrible controls (it was a port of the mobile version, which worked fine on mobile but not so much on console). That being said no game is for everyone. Still, if you ever get a chance try the DS one.
@SwitchVogel Good one!
TWEWY is a brilliant game on mobile - I will brook no argument. It’s not the same as the DS control scheme, but it’s a fantastic reworking of the controls and the best touchscreen game I’ve played - with or without a stylus.
That said, I’m also guessing PC port.
I refuse to get my hopes up again.
Oh I’ve been burned by this already
It should be pointed in this article that this is, in fact, not the first time Squeenix has tried to pull a stunt like this. Many years ago, they used this exact same kind of countdown site with the same timer and the same track, and people were hyping a long overdue sequel. It turned out to be the mobile port, which left a sour taste to many mouths. Even years later, this stunt brings back sour memories from the time when we still were naive enough to believe an actual sequel would come out.
So, in case you see some people being overly pessimistic about this one, now you know why.
Not gonna lie, if they put Sora in this, I'm out.
@nessisonett They already announced it'd be simulcast in the west, and the website is the Japanese varient, not the English Squeenix website. Definitely not anything to do with the dub.
@Grumblevolcano PC... maybe? It's a game that plays best on touchscreens, and I think Squeenix knows that. But I guess nothing is stopping them either.
My heart can't take the suspense!!
@XBontendo Game isnt that great. I heard its better on the DS since the Switch version is a port of the Mobile phone version.
@Sam_Loser2 Hey, if it is a TWEWY sequel, they could put Neku in Smash to promote it. 👀
I was NOT expecting anything new from this series after the awful Switch port - the original was incredible on the DS and very well suited to the handheld.
Hopefully, if this is a new game, they'll finally built something new from the ground up! Very excited (the music usually changes every day as we get closer to the announcement on these...another reason to check back!)
@OdnetninAges don't give us hope!
I'm starting to feel hope for TWEWY2
Looking around in the sites javascript, it looks like it may be related to the anime or they are just reusing code, this is the js file that is controlling the timer: https://www.jp.square-enix.com/7days/_common/js/main.js
TWEWY on PC with mouse control would be fun but... they wouldn't make such a fuzz for a PC port. PC's are just a little more popular than the complete failure called Xbox in Japan anyway
@LordGeovanni thanks for the help! I do have the switch version and the ds version cause i really wanted to try the game. I played a bit on ds and got further than on switch.. But first of all i need to get back into the game if i want to start over. For now i am still on finishing other games but your tips are very much appreciated!
@TheFrenchiestFry aren't you the guy from Twitter who said he wanted to put all the Nintendo and Sony fanboys in Auschwitz?
