I can imagine that. Disney is incredibly territorial over their IP, more so than even Nintendo. I’m a librarian and Disney is notorious for suing libraries for screening their movies without having the proper screening license (keep in mind the library movie screenings almost never charge people to attend and usually cost the library, not just due to screening licenses but due to things like snacks or props if it’s an interactive movie).
Meanwhile, when I commented on reddit once that I was looking for any discounts on Mario Kart 8 for an upcoming library program, Nintendo of America commented instantly telling me to check my DMs. They’d sent a code.
I think it’d be cool to release Bayo 2 on other platforms—it’s been a while since it first came out, after all, and the Switch has had it for a year or so now too. It’d help build hype for Bayonetta 3.
Buuuut Ninty gets very territorial over successful IPs, so it’s unlikely.
@ROBLOGNICK Yup! It’s absolutely wonderful. Smaller than the original game but a very worthy successor. Also, you play as the cutest puppy ever to grace to games industry.
Backing the physical version, myself. Going to create a Kickstarter account just to do so. And here I thought I’d get away with not spending any money on games in February.
I think a bigger, or at least as big, consideration of why they went with the Kickstarter route is publicity rather than money. This game has gotten a huge publicity boost from the success of the Kickstarter, and it’s a clear demonstration that fans love and support both Platinum and this IP (which many considered DOA after the first game came in with such low sales numbers, even for the Wii U) for potential investors and collaborators in the studio. They might get offered collaborations on dormant IPs (like Okami), and after this and the success of Astral Chain they’ll have a much easier time shopping around new IPs as well. Plus now they have over a million dollars with thirty days to go. It’s worked out phenomenally well for them.
The tag line on the steelbook made me chuckle. Not sure whether I’d go for the steelbook or the plastic, though, since I don’t tend to collect steelbooks and it might throw off my games shelf a bit...
Plus, if they sell the joy cons here in the west they’ll probably have the sides swapped (that’s usually how it works) so that you can pick up full sets of each color by ordering one western set and then importing a Japanese one. That’s how I got my pink and green pairs.
@IceEarthGuard "Regardless of the Animal, their human should make sure to introduce them to clothing, harnesses, collars, etc" —> I meant that if you do choose to introduce them to such, do so carefully, NOT that you should do so no matter what. Sorry for the lack of clarity.
I could always use another good mom game. Looks like this one deviates from the norm which is fine by me (I like the mechanics of Pokemon and Digimon, and change can always be fun as well! ).
@darkswabber Every animal is different just like every person is. And certainly regardless of the animal their human should make sure to introduce them to clothing, harnesses, collars, etc carefully and with plenty of treats and patience.
Case in point: I trained my cat to be a visiting therapy animal before it became apparent that she had trouble with carsickness. She’s very social, loves picking up tricks, and cuddling is her favorite thing so the training was something she absolutely adored. She’s always been especially good at getting out of her harness (which a therapy cat needs to wear to be certified and is just a good idea regardless when you’re out and about with a cat) so I started putting pet sweaters over it to keep her from being able to wriggle out. It took her some time to get used to them (just as it did her harness) but now when she sees me holding one she’ll often come running over to stick her head through herself because it means she’s going for a walk (which she loves loves LOVES). She’s a short-haired cat as well so in the winter the sweater helps her stay warm while she tromps around happily in the snow.
I also foster homeless cats and, when a cat is having trouble standing out from the crowd of adoptable rescues sometimes I’ll get them used to wearing sweaters to wear them at adoption events. In some cases it’s actually helped them be less stressed at events and it always gets them some interest!
There are plenty of mon games, most of which are, yes, heavily inspired by Pokemon. That's fine. It's a wonderful game to be inspired by. Glad that this game is doing well so far!
@Silly_G It’s actually pretty easy to import it from Japan via Amazon and isn’t anywhere near the markup I’d thought it would be (I have it myself). You can play the game in English via cartridge just as you can via digital.
Although yes, it should have been released internationally as well. It’s a very beloved game.
@Shambo It’ll probably be similar to Fortnite, where subscribing to NSO won’t be required because the base game is free and the connectivity/social aspect is an absolutely essential part of the game. (As for microtransactions, they’re just for cosmetics.)
Fun game! Glad to see it being added to Smash... hope that gets it a bit more exposure!
The Legions paired with each of the twins makes me wonder if the devs are tacitly implying which of them is the ‘canon’ protagonist and which is Akira.
@dougphisig I mean, Fire Emblem and SMT are both pretty popular series, and Mirage Sessions is a crossover between them, so it's not surprising. A lot of people are excited for this (full disclosure, this includes me). Sure, it's a port, but they've featured Wii U ports in Nintendo Downloads before, haven't they?
Right now I'm horns-deep into Hollow Knight. If I can get through it, I've got Digmon Cyber Sleuth, The Witcher III, the new Cadence of Hyrule Octavio mode, DQ11, Pokemon Sword, and Fire Emblem: Three Houses (320 hours in and I still have a quarter of a route to go! Then I might try non-NG+ Maddening mode!) to keep me occupied. Plus a bunch of short indies including What Remains of Edith Finch.
Basically, too many games! I'm going to do my best to take at least two off of my backlog this season, though!
Interesting to see that in one case (Chimecho) the female form would have been the default (at least, we usually think of the male forms as the ones we think of first, but Chimecho’s female form matches the one we ended up getting for both genders).
NICE! Wasn't the following Pokemon feature in the original beta of the buddy mechanic? I seem to remember a lot of silly posts about Magikarp around then...
@Belatarr It means that I consider myself a feminist as well as someone who falls on the liberal side of the political spectrum (mind you, liberal in the US (where I am, and I know most people on this site are not) is very different than a liberal in the UK (https://www.reddit.com/r/explainlikeimfive/comments/32qbkt/eli5_the_difference_between_american_liberal_and/). I agree with a lot of what other American liberals believe in regards to racial/gender/etc equality, preserving the environment, economic reform, educational reform, taxation, etc. It's easier for me to sum my views up in that way when referencing someone who seems to be trying to parody that sort of person than it is for me to go down the list of every single issue and how I feel about them, especially since my views do hew stereotypically to the far left side of the American political political spectrum (what can I say, I'm boring).
Going, again, from how people define the terms in the US: yes, you can be a conservative feminist. My extended family is pretty evenly split between liberals and conservatives, but there are those who consider themselves feminists on both sides.
Nobody's obliged to do anything, though, or think and act in any way but how they believe they should think and act. There's plenty of variety in feminist circles as well as political ones. For example, the feminists in my family who identify as conservative are often extremely pro-life, while those who identify as liberal are often extremely pro-choice. That's just one issue out of a huge number of them, but it's a quintessentially feminist issue so it's a good one to use.
@Belatarr I’m pretty sure that Patron is a troll. If the way that they sound like no actual liberal feminist that I’ve ever met didn’t give it away for me (and as a liberal feminist myself I’ve met a few in my life) then the way that they spell ‘women’ differently every time they use the word does. I don’t think anyone even uses any of those other spellings outside of Hollywood Wicca these days, lol.
There’s also the fact that, as you said, their posts never actually make sense.
Please read the darn article before responding to it. Because some people are having trouble with that, though:
The former CEO clearly admits to causing harm and is stepping down. There are no mentions of any charges being filed. Another employee is being let-go as full-time staff but will remain on the company payroll as a freelancer. Dangan has also been having issues with falling through on its commitments with game dev companies, to the point where one of those studios can’t access their own game right now.
That being said, please read the article. Thank you.
We need themes and folders. And the ability to choose which games go into those folders because I don’t trust Nintendo to give us folders we can actually organize ourselves rather than just automatic ones.
@RedBlueCarrots The Adaptive Controller is actually really cool! It’s designed to be customizable to help with a MASSIVE range of special needs and mobility issues. If the Switch deserves a spot on the list, I think the AC does as well. Both are very innovative and tread new ground in the gaming industry.
(Full disclosure: I do not own an Xbox and don’t intend to buy one. I just think that the Adaptive Controller is cool and does a lot of good.)
I remember there were game stations like this (although of course, not for the Switch) when I had to stay in the hospital for surgery as a kid. It really brightened up my stay! Glad to see they’re still a thing.
Definitely seems like a riff on the commercial Nintendo and XBox did for their cross play to make fun of Sony for not allowing it, lol. Glad to see all three of the consoles are finally on-board!
This has nothing on some Japanese light novel titles. Here are some of my particular favorites...

"I Couldn't Become a Hero so I Reluctantly Decided to Get a Job"

And who can forget:
"I’m a High School Boy and a Successful Light Novel Author, But I’m Being Strangled by a Female Classmate Who’s a Voice Actress and is Younger Than Me"
