At last week's Nintendo Direct, a new Fire Emblem game was revealed. Fire Emblem Engage had been rumoured for some time and will now be arriving on the Switch early next year on 20th January 2023.
If you're planning on picking up a digital copy of this game, it seems Nintendo's official website has now provided an idea of the new entry's size. According to the listing, the digital version will require around 15 GB of free space on your Switch. Keep in mind, that this is subject to change between now and release.
In comparison, the previous mainline release Fire Emblem: Three Houses took up about 11.6 GB of space. And the more recent spin-off Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes had a file size of 13.4 GB.
Engage will see the return of characters like Marth & Celica alongside some new characters, including the new protagonist Alear - featuring red and blue hair. These heroes will come together in a new turn-based tactical combat adventure to face off against "a great evil" and bring peace back to the Continent of Elyos.
If you are picking up a physical copy of the game, pre-orders for the Divine Edition - featuring a steelbook and art book are now available:
Will you be getting a physical copy or picking up the game digitally when it arrives on Switch? Tell us below.

I just got my copy of Three Houses and I’m hoping to beat it before Engage. It has been awesome so far
@StarPoint are you going to engage into it
That file size suggests that I'll engage the game in physical cartridge form.
@Heroofthenexus
To be fair, they needed some way to keep the audience engaged.
These puns are terrible.
You might say that I am dis... critical hit

I just asked my waifu to marry me. Now we're engaged.
That file size means more gay people. Please.
I want to be engaged to a man not ntr.
I won't be buying digital or physical until I read lots of reviews! Certainly wouldn't preorder something that could turn out to be pants.
This Engage game looks promising. I don't know if im going to get it yet. I have Three Houses and Three hopes. Im not really far into any of those but I always liked fire emblem.
Just gonna test out my cryo chamber. Will defrost on launch day. But can we get love interests that aren’t pseudo related to the my unit? Fates and 3houses are gonna put me in therapy.
I've never played a fire emblem game because I'm not generally a tactical rpg fan, but the trailer of this new game is definitely tempting. I'm looking forward to hear more. And I guess it will be a hefty game judging by file size which can be either good or bad.
@StarPoint probably my fave switch game! Enjoy!
What happened to the great original stories? This game looks like it exists only because of smash bros.
In many ways this is a return to pre-Three Houses Fire Emblem... which I think is a big mistake, personally. I wish they’d kept going in the direction of Three Houses instead of this cheesy style.
@StarPoint Three Houses is an amazing game! And 100+ hours replay value!
Was able to maintain my tradition of getting Special Edition Fire Emblem games. Got the Divine Edition preordered through GS Canada.
@Royalblues Can't really blame you. I mean, the main character was designed by someone who makes V-Tubers.
I played the "first" Fire Emblem on GBA as a kid, so seeing Lynn clearly referenced in the cinematic had me so hyped!
I hope they also add Roy and Hector as summons, which I would gladly pay for as DLC.
It's amazing how much content you can fit in a game that size or smaller. I got hundreds of hours out of some FE games. I was thinking about that while I was downloading Horizon Zero Dawn on my Deck yesterday, which is a jaw-dropping 70 GB--I'll probably get about the same number of hours or fewer on that, and it's just something that I find really interesting.
Preorder is on lock! Now to freeze myself until next year....
