Re: "A Big Miscalculation On My Part" – Hideki Kamiya On Leaving Bayonetta 3 Up To Interpretation

ottoecamn

Honestly Bayo3 was a gigantic disappointment for me as someone who was a big fan of the first two games. The Multiverse is one thing, but a lot of moments just felt like character assassination. Bayonetta in both 1 and 2 is nothing if not confident and competent. but in 3 she just kinda sits back with her mouth agape while her AU versions get killed. this made her look incompetent. same thing with Jeanne with how ridiculously easy it was for Tilda Swinton to one-shot kill her with that wheelchair lightsaber. That final scene where Viola, a character with a completely different personality who I didn't quite mind as a side character, claims the name "Bayonetta" felt like a slap in the face.

Bayo 3 did the worst thing a sequel can do: it made me not want to see what comes next. I didn't buy Bayonetta Origins, and I honestly didn't want a Bayonetta 4 if it meant that Viola was gonna go around using that name.

Re: 'The Hundred Line' Update 1.2.0 Announced, Here's What's Included

@Zeeba honestly that makes it even more baffling that things were censored.

Like the other guy said it IS minor, but in the cult of Takumi route, both "Eva Cake" CGs and the "Living Idol" CG with Eito (you know the one) got toned down only on switch, while remaining in their original form on PC. (The eva cake scenes got zoomed in with a huge "white fog" covering the bottom of the image. Like those lazy "sun ray" censorship that happened on some VNs on PS4 some years ago. Same thing with the Eito scene, but with shadow instead).

I get these are small moments and nowhere near as invasive as what happened to Dispatch, but it's by ignoring these smaller things that you give leeway for things to get worse. The point is, not a single CG should've have been changed considering it's an M rated game with very adult themes. Specially when it has the exact same rating on a different platform. Its not something that should be excused (SPECIALLY when the devs never disclosed this information. I would never have bought the switch version had i knew this happened and would've played it on pc instead), hence why I feel the need to bring it up every time.

Re: Saudi Investment Firm Acquires A Significant Number Of Capcom Shares

ottoecamn

@FancyJehuty I'm talking from the standpoint of the effect it has on the product. And in that sense, yes.

I can be against what the Saudi government does, and agree its terrible. But when a videogame company takes their investment, they mostly stay out of the way. When a company takes ESG money, it gets eroded from the inside out and the product they produce is fundamentally changed into something worse.

We can try to take a moral high ground, but I find that hypocritical. You liked owns SOMETHING that you don't need to survive that was made in China. And they got their own share of human rights issues.

So when it comes to stuff like games, I'm gonna be more concerned with how the investment will affect the product. And ESG funding will turn a product I'd want to buy into a Product I don't want. More often than not, the Saudi investors won't do that. (The worst they've done in recent memory was put Ronaldo in CotW).

Re: Saudi Investment Firm Acquires A Significant Number Of Capcom Shares

ottoecamn

@FancyJehuty I mean, -human rights violations aside- nothing wrong with a country trying to break into entertainment. I'm aware that the Ronaldo and Salvatore guest characters were likely added due to their popularity in Saudi Arabia, but if the Alternative is something like Blackrock, that imposes ESG scores that force developers ro hire people based on identity points rather than merit, and push certain ideological agendas, ultimately trying to transform the way the company operates from within until they become unrecognizable... ill take the Saudi investment over it any day.

Re: Saudi Investment Firm Acquires A Significant Number Of Capcom Shares

ottoecamn

@Pillowpants I get the concern but the Prince also has a large share in SNK (In fact doesn't he straight up owns it?) And as far as I'm aware, thr Saudi's haven't really done anything to steer SNK in any direction and mostly leave them to do their thing (I think there's an interview where he says that he wants japanese companies to stay japanese).

What I'm trying to say is... there's worst billionaire investors out there. I rather the Saudi prince owns a large share than something like Blackrock (that is VERY CLEAR about how they want to change the companies they invest in).

Re: Gallery: Here's A Look At Pokémon Winds & Waves On Switch 2

ottoecamn

@AussieMcBucket yeah. Not only that, Pokémon has a very cartoony anime style for even their human characters. And we reached a level of technical fidelity that those concept arts and 2d renders can be recreated extremely faithfully with a celshaded 3d style. (Heck, just looks at Pokémon Masters Ex, the Paldea character models are A LOT more pleasing to the eye there than in Scarlet and Violet. Vux their cartoony designs match the style and the models match the art. While in ScaVio, the more realistic texture and rendering does them a disservice).

Re: Nintendo Responds To Dispatch Switch Censorship With Official Statement

ottoecamn

"We also do not discuss specific content or the criteria used in making these determinations."

And therein lies the problem. This means that whatever metrics they use to determine if something is "innapropriate" is completely arbitrary, made up, and subject to the whims to whatever Karen happens to going through approvals that day.

It's frankly insulting. Doubly so whe you think back to Furukawa's statement in 2019 (even Nintendo Life reported it back then https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2019/06/nintendo_has_no_plans_to_censor_video_games_like_sony ) :

"Nintendo, as do 3rd-parties and their software, applies for an objective rating from 3rd-party organizations prior to release. If platform-holding companies choose arbitrarily, the diversity and fairness in game software would be significantly inhibited. We provide parental controls that can be used to apply limits."

Somebody NEEDS to figure out a way to let the folks in Japan know NoA is going behind their backs. This only harms nintendo's image.

Re: PSA: Dispatch's 'Visual Censorship' Settings Can't Be Removed On Switch

ottoecamn

@Sam_ATLUS I cant really speak for the EU, but I CAN say that there's a lot more examples than just Neptunia and Hundred Line.

To name a few:
Yuuna and the Haunted Hot Springs, Prison Princess: Trapped Allure, Magical Nut Ikuno, Night to Meet You! / Nice to Meet Chu!, Death end re;Quest: Code Z, Tokyo Clanpool, The Fox Awaits Me HANA, Amairo Chocolate, Daymare: 1994 Sandcastle, Corpse Party: Tetralogy Pack, and the Swimsuit DLC specifically for the switch version of Neptunia Riders VS Dogoos.

It's been happening for a while, but because its mostly niche japanese games, people just turn a blind eye. Maybe now that it's affecting a game that higher profile and western, people will start talking about it?

Re: PSA: Dispatch's 'Visual Censorship' Settings Can't Be Removed On Switch

ottoecamn

Well, that settles it.

Nintendo of America needs to be cleaned out. this is horrible.

It wasn't enough to censor Japanese games, now not even western ones are safe.

The most infuriating thing about this whole thing is that Nintendo was doing SO well in the censorship matter around 2019 to maybe 2024. Furukawa made a whole statement denouncing censorship, tons of fanservicey games that were censorsed elsewhere were released in full on Switch... now out of nowhere this sh*t starts happening.

NoJ REALLY needs to fire a lot of people at NoA.
