I fell off this game hard so maybe this'll get me back into the swing of things. I had a blast with the campaign but after a few weeks the multiplayer (the main component of the game!) just completely stopped being fun for me. Every now and then I get tempted to go back but I get as far as the title screen and then quit out. Really wish I could enjoy it.
Hopefully that doesn't last for long, no, not out of any misguided loyalty for a brand, nor for the simple love of the game in question but only because Blizzard really, really, really suck, easily outmatching Nintendo at their most toxic which is, let's be honest, an accomplishment!
The Gloom is extremely fun to explore while also managing to be oppressive. It can be overbearing to spend a lot of time there and it genuinely feels like you're coming up for air when you finally leave, the first time the Gloom Hands came for me down there was genuinely terrifying, more so than many actual horror games I have played but, for my money Majora's Mask is still the king.
Majora's Mask might be a little overplayed these days (though that's earned when it was ignored and swept under the carpet for so long) but there's still very few games like it, even within its own series. It has its fair share of silly moments, light-hearted fun and touching scenes, but that moon was always hanging there, almost always in view, it remains chilling just to think about.
I was really unsure of this game but the last trailer sold me on it and playing it now I am so happy I did, this is so much more than merely BOTW DLC, honestly blown away so far. Even if you are dismissive of the new systems once you actually get your hands on it it's a real game changer. I had a huge smile on my face yesterday as I built a rickety contraption to sale through the clouds.
Gotta say this trailer really turned me round. Still going to wait, because I don't pre-order games as a general rule but I am much, much more enthusiastic than before.
To be fair, of all the characters Martinet has the best track-record with Wario. He was fantastic in Wario Ware Gold, could easily voice him in a prospective sequel.
However, having said that, if they must make a Hollywood choice Pedro Pascal would be a good choice, I guess, would need to hear the "Wah!" first.
@CharlieGirl Plenty of films that aren't just ads, well, assuming one has access to a decent cinema. Haven't been to any franchise films in two years at this point. Not planning on catching this, looks, as you implied, like a soulless big budget advertisement nor do I make it a habit of watching kids films anyway.
Nothing here is really blowing my mind. I want to be optimistic but BOTW was such a big jump, for me, I just don't see this sequel standing out. Sure, the floating islands look neat but they seem to segmented from the world below and speaking of, the map just looks too similar. As someone who adored the first game I just want this to be a bit more special than it looks. I don't see where the six years of work went...
Anyway, I rarely ever pre-order games so this doesn't effect me, like everything else I'll wait for the reviews and impressions post release.
@BenAV Yeah, it was a mixed year to be fair. Some great stuff. Kirby and Xenoblade knocked it out of the park. As much as myself and my girlfriend enjoyed the experience of playing through Pokemon there was absolutely no excuse for releasing it in that state and while I loved Three Hopes that also, in some ways, feels unfinished...
An easy recommendation for anyone who hasn't dipped their toes in the series yet. Give this a go if you have the expansion pass, there's nothing to lose and, if you dig it, try Dread next if you're willing to fork the money over for it. Dread does a great job and mixing the more guided style of Fusion with the more open-ended design of the earlier titles. Dread is extremely replayable too, especially considering the sequence breaking.
@PinderSchloss To be completely fair to them, though, there's loads of time for them to show more. It's probably not going to catch lightning in a bottle like the original did but there's no doubt it'll be a great time just not the masterpiece (I consider) BOTW to be.
Was wrecked yesterday after work and just couldn't stay up for this direct, but wow, I really regret that now! This was a pretty great showing, can't complain. Although...
I will say this quietly...
I'm not super blown away by what we've seen from Zelda so far...
Gone through two pairs and I am very, very careful. Rarely ever had problems with controllers on any console prior to this.
The sad reality is that the Joy-Con is a neat controller with some fun gimmicks marred by a hideous up-tick in price and poor parts to compensate, so, in other words, the player plays.
Shame to see get this case thrown out because these things are extortionate and should be built to last. It reflects Nintendo very poorly.
Honestly, I just don't care about the cliff-hanger, they can brush that one aside and I'll be fine.
I just want to see a new Prime game in a new world taking advantage of all of the improvements (more) recent hardware can do. Something along the lines of Prime 2, builds on the previous games and doesn't have to be too heavily tied to the past.
Great game, good to hear the Switch port is well done, touchscreen control is a wise addition. Highly recommend this to any horror/point and click fans.
Is the FES content seriously not included? I think I will just wait for a remake to hopefully make an appearance, either that or just dig out the 'ol PS2!
This is upsetting. I really don't want to have the thought in the back of my head that buying any products from Nintendo means that they are getting even a penny of my money. I'd rather not feel that, regardless of how little it is, I'm contributing in any way.
Speaking as someone who really enjoyed the last Mario + Rabbids this is well deserved, may Ubisoft and the other big corps who abuse their employees continue to suffer.
It's a real shame, honestly and I'm sure I would have dug the new game too but I just cannot spend my money on any game they put out knowing what their execs have been up to.
I gotta be honest, I'm a weirdo who's mostly in games for the plot, or the atmosphere, I can tolerate a whole lot of jank if I get something unique from the game. As such Fire Emblem has been enormously hit or miss for me. Loved Echoes, Three Houses and not much else. Sadly this game just isn't doing it for me. The plot looks to be dumb as bricks, I hope it ends up being otherwise!
Xenoblade Chronicles 3 was the stand out for me. A wonderful game with a sincere, positive life message. The final third is somewhat under-developed and there are some plot details that are clearly being saved for the expansion but even with those minor critiques given it's easily, in my eyes, the best in the series and one of the best JRPGs ever made.
I also love Three Hopes a lot more than other people, I think. It's undercooked but if you take it as a coda to the storyline of Three Houses that expands on the themes and narrative elements (not always to a satisfying degree, admittedly) it's a great time in its own right and Shez really upstages Byleth as a player character.
@DrJoson I enjoy Maiden of Black Water quite a bit but I do think it's overall the weakest, barring the original which is quite dated and basic compared to the sequels.
I hope we get a physical release, but somehow I doubt it.
Ender Lillies was surprisingly good. Great atmosphere with a neat combat system riffing on systems from earlier Castlevania titles. The grimdark setting was a bit much at times but I am very much interested in anything these people do going ahead.
Even at its worst (Maiden of Black Water) this series is something special and still remains unique in the greater gaming landscape, you need to be a patient at times but I highly recommend these games to any horror fans.
Yeah, no thanks, I have always been wary of those military shooters but COD is literally propaganda for the US military, not going to link it here but you can easily find the article if you search for it.
Sorely wish I could have played X but ironically I was living in Japan during the time of the Wii U although I was tempted there was never enough on it to convince me, I stuck with the 3DS that whole generation.
I imagine it will get a re-release but not until after the dlc for 3 wraps up, it'd make for a relatively convenient stop-gap inbetween the next entry and the inevitable warriors* spin off.
Very interesting. I feel that Shattered Memories is kind of forgotten owing to how detached it is from the rest of the series. It's a very interesting entry that deserves to be remembered. I also wish it was its own thing though I don't honestly feel the connections to the original/remake aspect of it are all that interesting.
I completely disagree with his opinion of 3, though, it has its own flavour, does a good job of wrapping things up and should have freed the series to go off and do its own thing. 3, if anything, is a little overlooked in my eyes.
I hope this is a sign that they are still working on the game and that DLC is incoming. I had a blast playing it (finished 2 of 3 campaigns) and it offered a nice counterpoint to Three Houses but there are still some dangling plot threads that could really do with expanding and I think we'd also appreciate a more developed postgame.
I've had a lot of fun playing this (when it works), much more than 2 but man, it really feels like they needed another month (or three) of polish before they released it, there have been some really egregious issues that just shouldn't have been there to begin with.
Have always loved the comics since I was a kid. Are the games any good? Had one on the Super Nintendo back in the day... can't really remember if it was actually any good, mind.
Good for them. Had a great time with it. Done two runs and saving the third for later down the line. It has its faults, which I hope some dlc down the line will address, but it's by far the most fun I have had with a musou.
I would really encourage anyone even mildly curious to give the demo a go, it will give you a good taster.
I think they made the right choice. I liked Age of Calamity but this much better fits the universe. Also, whatever comes after the Switch should continue the service and not start from scratch again. The service as it is pales in comparison to what we had on previous consoles but at least it's starting to shape up into something, it'd be such a pain for them to start from scratch again.
Although he comes across as quite abrasive he isn't wrong. Imprisoning people over this is quite ridiculous. Nintendo, being charitable, are protective of their products but this is just cruel.
I will probably always love Nintendo the developer, or more accurately the creative staff they attract but the business is increasingly foul.
@jowe_gw True, but you could hardly blame them. I dismissed it for a while and didn't get round to Shadows of Valentia and the rest until much later, glad I did though.
