Original article [Thu 7th Jul, 2022 10:15 BST]: Publisher Microids has announced Asterix & Obelix XXXL: The Ram From Hibernia, a new action-adventure title in the 'XXL' series starring history's favourite Gaulish Warriors.
The game will be a top-down adventure filled with exploration, puzzles, and plenty of chaotic brawls to dive into. For the first time in the franchise's history, you'll also have the option to play this new title on your own or with up to three additional players for 4-player cooperative play.
Here's some story info from Microids:
"The year is 50 BC. Gaul is entirely occupied by the Romans. Well, not entirely! One small village of indomitable Gauls still holds out against the invaders… Meanwhile, in Hibernia (today known as Ireland) Keratine, chief Whiskitonix’s daughter, is calling Asterix and Obelix to the rescue as they need help to overcome the Roman invasion and bring back her father’s beloved golden ram. For this mission, you’ll control your favorite heroes and use your fists and any surrounding objects to make your way while throwing Romans in the air! Our two Gauls will also be able to count on their trusty druid Getafix, who’s been working on a new magic potion recipe for extra power!"
Asterix & Obelix XXXL: The Ram From Hibernia is currently scheduled to release in Fall 2022.

Loved the books as a kid in the 80s. Never tried the modern games.
@Duncanballs My kids have a couple of the games and I remember seeing a couple of the animated films years ago. The thing I always struggled with is that the voices were always miles away from how I imagined the characters sounding when I read the books. Agreed, the books are excellent.
Wasn't there an updated port of the Asterix arcade game announced?
I remember 2D cartoon and the books never played any of the games though but nice to see its comeback.
This franchise just never goes away does it.
@Serpenterror
It shouldn't. European people also need some classic comics.
I read all The Asterix books when I was a kid, but I've never played any of the games. When visiting Paris I spotted there's an Asterix theme park so only then realised how popular he still is.
France is too content with settling for serviceable Asterix games.
my problem here is whether or not it will come here to the USA ik the last game didn't even come to north America, my grandmother really wanted to play it with me since it was 2 players, but i hope there is more than just 2 dif characters to choose from.
@Duncanballs I read all Asterix comics in 80's too.
I later bought them all in hard cover version.
@Ventilator I think I still have most of mine. The film's are hard to get. Asterix in Britain was one of favourite ones
@Duncanballs
I still own all the Asterix cartoon movies on retail VHS, and i own all 3D Asterix Animation movies and real action movies on Blu-Ray and DVD.
I bought them when they were released as they would be out of print at some point.
I were a movie collector since 1980's and is why i kept collecting. Nowadays i only buy 4K UHD Discs.
Physical is dying fast and lots of 4K is already out of print too...
When 4K dies, there will sadly be no more movies to buy as 4K UHD will be the last retail format ever.
I love the comics, have the Twelve Tasks on VHS. But the games have never looked any good.
I read a bunch of the comic as a kid. Glad to see this series is still somewhat alive and kicking.
I played every game in this series. And I am looking forward to this game. But my favourite Asterix game is Slap Them All.
Have always loved the comics since I was a kid. Are the games any good? Had one on the Super Nintendo back in the day... can't really remember if it was actually any good, mind.
I'd love a good Asterix game. This still won't be it.
Love the original run of comics.
In particular: Asterix The Gladiator, Asterix And The Big Fight and Obelix & Co.
Wow asterix I remember the books and the comics also the VHS talk about trip down to memory lane.
I bought the Strictly Limited Games Asterix Slap them all Ultra Collectors Edition which is amazing.
Love Asterix, very interested in this too
Lol, anyone wants a free-roaming 3D game again...but they just deliver another top-down adventure...
