UK Charts: Diablo IV Finally Sends Zelda: TOTK To The Dark Depths Of Number Two

Not surprising, D4 looks very nice, it's a completely different game than the mess of D3. The storyline is shaping up well and the music is actually there. The gameplay is as dull as ever.

Of course, this isn't even the same league as Zelda, but I can see how many casual players might want to pick it up

I was thinking the same thing myself, guess we will have to wait for the U.S NPD results to come out, but it must be 15-20 million copies by now.

@ComfyAko I would Hardly call Diablo a casual game, it takes a lot of grinding to get decent sets.
Sure you can just run through the campaign on the easier settings but if you want to start working towards Torment 16 there's some serious Min/Maxing needed.

@Chaotic_Neutral Maybe, I could never claim myself to be a h&s expert, I hardly played anything besides Sacred (the best H&S until now). As for D4 it's just that even on the hardest difficulty available on start, it's very simplistic. In my first 2 hours, I just pressed forward pressing 2 buttons.

Bear in mind that I simultaneously play Final Fantasy V which has an enormous amount of intricate mechanics due to the class and ability freedom. In comparison, D4 looks like an idle clicker, in my opinion at least. I also spoke with a real Diablo fan who said that it's a great game to tune off and listen to something in the background

That’s what you get for $70 DLC. I predicted Zelda would FAIL and I was SO RIGHT!

@SpaceboyScreams Grinding is pretty much all you do in any game to various degrees.
What's the point in clearing out the mobs or finding all Korok seeds in BotW/TotK?
In fact that feels worse than something like Warframe or Diablo because you don't even get better loot from the treasure chests.

@ComfyAko the actual combat in Diablo has always been pretty simplistic, the gameplay loop is in maximising your build to take on a harder difficulty and rinse/repeat. Once you reach endgame its about grinding for the best armour sets for your character build and then it becomes about the fashion via transmog 🤣

Pretty impressive that Zelda was #1 for nearly a month. Mario Kart in the top five after all of these years, crazy.

@Chaotic_Neutral As for grinding, I would say that you do it in modern games. If grinding is doing something in the game just to gain a reward, then there is no grinding in most older games where you don't repeat the same thing over and over until it becomes a chore. Even though you fight many times in Okami, it's so fun that it doesn't feel like a chore, and thus it doesn't count as grinding, in my opinion.

Yeah that about sums it up. I have nothing against such gameplay loop, but if you are interested in more complex things, you can get bored with D4. That being said, I like magical girls shows so I chose the magical girl class not knowing that it's considered to be super OP. I might try again with a barbarian, because the storyline actually makes sense in this game (a stark contrast to D3)

@Maxz made me chuckle! I swear there's people in here who won't stop complaining about TOTK until the game is taken off the shelves...amazing how it went from "it's just DLC, we've (there's that "we" word again) seen everything!!!?!?!?!" to "It's too big! There's too much to do! It's overwhelming!"

Thinking of getting D4, but happy mindlessly running around on ToTK for now.

A month at the top for a Nintendo game is pretty decent in the UK. I image TOTK will hang around for a while yet, and who knows, it might even go back to number 1. I am curious how well Diablo IV will hold on.

Also, some people seem to have overactive imaginations.

Hopefully that doesn't last for long, no, not out of any misguided loyalty for a brand, nor for the simple love of the game in question but only because Blizzard really, really, really suck, easily outmatching Nintendo at their most toxic which is, let's be honest, an accomplishment!

Expected better from Street Fighter VI. I guess fighting games are still a bit niche?

Yess Zelda did it great.

Hogwarts never truly got it's evergreen legs until it released on the PS4. That shows people aren't upgrading hardware. When the game shows up on the Switch it will further cement the game as a true blockbuster.

I’m playing D4 now (and chipping away at Zelda of course still). Diablo is very tough I’d you’re playing hardcore. You do have to really put some thought on your build and how you go into a large group of enemies because you can get swarmed very easily. I’ve loved my time with it tho but one thing I do not like is it being a live service game. If you’re having connection issues and playing hardcore it could be a very bad day for you if you’ve invested a lot in a character, luckily the servers have ran pretty well for me but I did lose one character due to lag.

For a game that's exclusive to just one format, Zelda has done incredibly well. It's hardly surprising that a multi-format game has knocked Zelda off the top spot, especially one that's beloved by pc owners, who's numbers are squillions of times more numerous than Switch. Then add on top PS5 and Xbox Whatever.

@zitpig since the switch came out in 2017 their are more switches in the uk then either a ps5 or xbox.. so that is no surprise a extremely popular switch game was on top for a month..

Diablo 4 is awesome same as TOTK. And at least when you in the burning pits of hell you weapons don't mostly get burned lol.

Huh? Just the UK? TOTK is still #1 in a lot of countries.

@JohnnyMind historically the UK has not been a Nintendo stronghold. But, they've done impressively well for the past 5-6 years. Curious if Nintendo going to start transitioning to Switch 2 or if they're going to drop Prime 4 news in the coming weeks..

Grand Theft Auto IV?

Well, it's the fourth release of GTA V, so, they'd be half-right.

Not Surprising considering UK is historically on of the markets Nintendo struggles in, in comparison to other regions.

I Havnt played totk but I love Diablo 4 so far. I wasn’t a big fan of 3 but I seem to enjoy it.
Once I beat breath of the wild I’ll probably get totk.
Honestly I’ll probably play Majoras Mask again first

That's a real shame. TOTK is a vastly superior experience. The story in Diablo 4 is the most boring thing I've had the misfortune of suffering through in a very long time. Due to the level scaling getting to 50 felt like I was getting weaker the more I leveled up. I feel already bored of the game and will be going back to play more TOTK.

@eltomo i would wait while on diablo 4 till they fix certain issues plus having online only is turning some people off.

@MetalMan that and the microtransactions is also a problem in diablo 4 as well along with having no offline play.

I do want to play Diablo 4, but I rarely play PS5 these days and I don't like gaming on PC. Perhaps if one day they port it to Switch or it's successor (most likely) I'll finally play it.

Edit: I was hoping to maybe see Capcom Fighting Collection there. Of course it's unlikely since it's a collection of old fighting games, but I just want them to do a new Darkstalkers so much and that might help with the possibility. For those interested, it runs great on Switch and it has rollback.

It's kind of interesting that Kingdom Battle is doing better than Sparks of Hope, it seems, over there. I guess it's easier to get Kingdom Battle, but I hope Sparks of Hope starts selling better. I haven't even bought the game at this point, at least.

Unsurprising. Ones a expensive expansion pack while one is the true sequel to one of the greatest games of all time. Long live Diablo!

@arnoldfranklin It's because people know it's an Ubi game and will be under $10 before long. Why buy now for almost triple that?

D4 is on multiple platforms. ToTK is only on switch. Unless D4 was an unmitigated disaster, this was inevitable.

Almost picked it up but went with Advance Wars. Do hope it sells well though. The first game was a hoot.

It’s funny, 200 fevered hours later most of my switch friends with ToTK seem done with Zelda. Like the binge is over.

The fact that GTA V is nowhere in the top 40 is interesting here. That game was the best selling title in the UK the last few years ago, maybe UK had enough of the game this year.

Diablo will have this week maybe next but it’ll drop off after that.

Oh no, I shouldnt have buy D4. Instead I should have buy another copy of totk.

I can see TOTK reclaiming the top spot in the coming weeks. Diablo 4 is great but not sure it has legs
