Update [Wed 15th Jun, 2022 09:20 BST] More details of the supposed next Fire Emblem game have been leaked. This time, Reddit user miasmadelta has shared some apparent screenshots from the 18th mainline Fire Emblem title over on r/fireemblem.
Of course, this game is still unannounced, so we won't know if they are real until we get an official look, but the screenshots do confirm the "strange red and blue" hair that Rogers mentioned on Famiboards yesterday.
We won't include the screenshots here, but miasmadelta has linked to them in the below Reddit post. So, if you don't want to be spoiled on anything else from this rumoured Fire Emblem game, don't click the 'characters' link.
Rogers has also commented on Twitter on these screenshots. Again, if you're spoiler averse and want to be surprised by the look of this game, be careful as a few of the replies to Rogers' tweet include some of the screens.

Original article [Tue 14th Jun, 2022 15:15 BST] Fire Emblem fans are feasting right now. We're just a little under two weeks away from the release of Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes, a Musou game set in the Fire Emblem: Three Houses world. Three Houses itself has been hugely successful for Intelligent Systems on Switch. And Fire Emblem Heroes continues to be extremely popular with fans.
Yet there's more to come for those that love this strategy RPG series. Known Nintendo leaker and Nintendo World Report contributor Emily Rogers has revealed that Intelligent Systems has been working on a new Fire Emblem game for the Switch — and it's a brand new game, not a remake or a rerelease.
Rogers shared the details of this over on Famiboards, where she states that the game is a collaborative effort between Intelligent Systems, Warriors developer Koei Tecmo, and Gust — a division of Koei Tecmo and creators of the Atelier series. Rogers also has some tidbits about the potential new entry:
Here is what I can share about the new Fire Emblem game.
- Upcoming Fire Emblem is a new game, not a remake. Brand new story.
- Collaboration between Intelligent Systems, Koei Tecmo and Gust (division of Koei Tecmo Holdings).
- Gust heavily assisted with the visuals / graphics. Graphics are an improvement over "Three Houses".
- Originally intended as an anniversary game to celebrate FE's 30th anniversary. The game has been finished for over a year.
- Main character (main lord) has strange red and blue hair. His mother is a dragon.
- New "Emblems" gimmick allows players to summon "FE characters from the past" for your squad.
There are some really interesting things we can pick out here — the fact that Emblems will be used to summon fan-favourite Fire Emblem characters sounds really fun. Also, we think Gust's lovely cel-shaded visual style would work perfectly in the Fire Emblem universe; just look at Atelier Sophie 2: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Dream! And, lastly, the game is already finished — and has been for a year.
That last one is particularly interesting, because if the game is ready, and has been for more than a year, when will we be getting it? We're already getting a new Fire Emblem game this year with Three Hopes — albeit it isn't a traditional strategy game — so would Nintendo release a second in 2022? It wouldn't be the first time as Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones and Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance both launched in 2005 in North America and Europe, but perhaps Nintendo will hold out until next year.
We'll have to wait and see if this turns out to be true!

There will definitely be another traditional Fire Emblem game of some kind, whether a new game or a remake, on Switch before it ends its lifespan. I think it's a pretty safe 2023 bet. We'll see if this particular rumor comes true.
His mother is a dragon. Nice that's what I wanted to hear. Where can we pre-purchase?
Emily Rogers has a tendency to overshoot her predictions, but there's generally several crumbs of truth to her insights.
Between this and the buzz behind a June 29th Direct, I feel it's fair to assume Nintendo are planning something.
My body is always ready for more Fire Emblem... and throw in some Advance Wars if you got time for that too, Nintendo. Thanks!
Emily is usually a decent source, so I do buy this. Hoping we get official confirmation soon.
‘…the fact that Emblems will be used to summon fan-favourite Fire Emblem characters sounds really fun.’
So, Donnel confirmed!
I don't believe you, continue
I’m not gonna believe it till I see it, but I really hope this is real. If it is, I hope they let you romance any legal character regardless of their sex. The limited gay romance options are stupid and outdated.
I’m also curious to see how they’ll improve over Three Houses. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not like it’s the greatest FE game ever made, but it’ll be hard to go back to the non-Monastery style of the regular series.
I've been waiting for one every direct. I really don't like the sound of the "Emblems" gimmick. I miss the grounded worldbuilding of the Tellius games, things that like take me out of the world for shallow fanservice.
While Fire Emblem continues to get new entries, Advance Wars has been held back by Nintendo indefinitely. Even the Reboot Camp edition got held back until who knows when. Two finish games that we probably won't see til 2023 perhaps.
"New 'Emblems' gimmick allows players to summon "FE characters from the past" for your squad."
So... the Einherjar from Fire Emblem: Awakening? Do these emblems do something to set them apart from the Einherjar? Also, pretty sure this practically confirms DLC for this new game... as if there was ever any doubt.
Please let this be true. Three Houses is maybe my second or third favorite game on Switch and my favorite FE game. Let this be one of the “surprise! Q3 and Q4 2022 is stacked on Switch just like last year and you didn’t know til E3” games. It’s the perfect time for a FE game. With such a light release schedule this year, that’s the type of game I could easily sink into and the type of game, more importantly, that I WANT to sink into.
The 3ds had 3 main fire emblem games so I don't see why the switch would settle for just 1
Welp, I guess that's one thing that's gonna show up in the direct. I like fire emblem and all but please don't be like the last direct and start with an anime game and end with an anime game, was a little boring, even though I like both fire emblem and xenoblade.
Ladies, Gentlemen, and those who chose to identify as otherwise, meet your new Smash Chracter.
I'll believe this leak because it's exactly what I want to hear!
Yeah I don’t believe this at all.
Until Nintendo says something about this, then I will believe
If it's as good as Three Houses I will definitely be there day one.
@Bizaster
If they bring back the Monastery (or something like it), I do hope they liven it up a little. I mean, I loved walking around and talking to people in Three Houses, but the artificiality of NPCs standing in random corners or wandering in tiny circles diluted the immersion. I'm not asking for Clock Town from Majora's Mask here but... Some conventions that look fine in top-down traditional RPGs just translate weirdly into 3D space. Probably because in 2D, the game world looks more like what it is: a game board. Whereas in 3D space, you start to see it as a realistic narrative space, and expectations change.
Hopefully this one is good. I got good playtimd out of 3H but was ultimately really disappointed by it. So far 3 Hopes is set to address some of my criticisms with the story, but it's embarrassing that it looks like a Musou game might be more tactical than 3 Houses was, too. Hopefully a new FE, rumored or otherwise, will live up to the gameplay Conquest mastered on 3DS 7 years ago now.
I'm frothing at the mouth for this one. Hoping it's true 🍻
I mean... They are working on a new Fire Emblem, that's a given. It probably is even quite far in development too, Three Houses was released almost 3 years ago. The question is when will they announce it and how it is going to be.
While I want this to be true, really want more Fire Emblem, Famiboards is a offshoot of Resetera, and I don't trust Resetera.
But would love more Fire Emblem as soon as possible.
@AlanaHagues “…if the game is ready, and has been for more than a year, when will we be getting it*?”
Considering Three Hopes looks better than Three Houses despite likely having a much smaller budget it'd be weird if it didn't look better than the last one.
I feel like there's been talk of a brand new Fire Emblem game since the DLC for Three Houses came out honestly.
This just sounds like Three Hopes.
And red plus blue makes purple hair, just like the Three Hopes protagonist.
Almost reads like satire.
I don't like the sound of that "summoning characters from the past" thing. Hopefully that's not a main mechanic or part of the story. Usually stories suffer when crossover stuff is involved.
@Markiemania95 When Nintendo decides. Just like how Advance Wars has been ready for months. And that is actually proven.
Fire Emblem is sitting on a shelf right next to Pikmin 4. 😝
Laugh now, but when they both get announced as Switch 2 launch titles...
@CharlieGirl June 29th Direct
Of all the days to have a Direct that really seems the least likely w/ a shareholder meeting that day. They've never held a Direct the same day as a meeting before. I mean it is Nintendo so literally anything can happen but that's the last day I would bet on.
FYI -
https://www.nintendo.co.jp/ir/en/stock/meeting/
@jowe_gw I wasn’t asking the question lol, hence the quotation marks. I was referring to a line in the above article.
EDIT: Which has now been corrected.
Mmm, Koei Tecmo and Gust involvement is a hit concerning for me. I'm not particularly fond of either of their outputs.
really? reporting on a Emily Rogers rumor? someone who has been wrong many times in the past? The only time she has been correct was when she was piggybacking on other rumors.
Didnt you guys learn anything about rumors from Jon ?
All these finished games waiting in the wings…….Fire Emblem, Pikmin 4, Goldeneye, Starfox GP etc etc. the developers obviously don’t need the money if they’re sitting on finished software! ( massive eye roll ).
summoning old FE characters sounds like some gacha stuff
Just going to take this like a pinch of salt.
Gust and improved graphics? Lmao
@rjejr Hm... There is a chance Nintendo just lets june pass by without any Direct. It would be kinda unprecedented but without E3 they didn't really have to do one and they already announce stuff for this year earlier.
I mean, for all that we know, Nintendo could just send a tweet tomorrow and announce a Direct for the 16th.
@Markiemania95 Oh. Ok. I think when I read the article it was corrected. Whops...
Its probably really frustating to work for nintendo as a dev, because sometimes your games just get lost in the shuffle. Talking about Metroid Prime HD Collection as another example thats been finished for years.
@relinqued source?
At last a new game I can purchase (if it exists)
Most of the details feel like safe bets for Fire Emblem, or easy guesses. Emily Rodgers has only been right when making very safe guesses and usually leeches off other rumours to back up her claims. Also, if anything remotely similar to what she says is announced she uses that as "proof" that everything she said was right, even if it was only 10% true and the rest was wrong :/
Would have much preferred this than another Warriors title. That said, if the rumor is true, I look forward to the reveal. The game seems very interesting!
I hope it will be more traditional than the previous one. TBH, I did not like those social sim sections and the stuff like that.
There are things I like about the monastery as far as the relationships you build but exploring it was so drab. I’d rather do away with it for this type of game for maybe a point and click more stream lined approach. I just want to build my team and get right to the battling. Regardless I’ll be interested in another game tho.
Emily Rogers
Stopped reading here lmao
Maybe this time you won’t spend half the time on a college campus picking up loose objects your students drop in the hallways. The only thing more mundane for a fantasy-war game would be making you a housewife. With any luck, this new game will be fantastic and hook me better than Three Houses.
Would love a new Fire Emblem game inspired by Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia.. love that game. Or remastered version of Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn? Micaiah deserves it.
@Alana_Hagues I forgot Sacred Stones and Path of Radiance released the same year. The craziest example is 2017, which saw three releases: FE Heroes, FE Echoes, and FE Warriors! What a time to be alive.
@Miu Better, an HD double-pack of PoR and RD! With better cutscenes, preferably.
And they all come with their original growth rates! C'mon gimme that sad ass Binding Blade Roy please, I crave several HP + Luck level ups in a row
There is some sense in not releasing the new game until now. A new cast would make the new Three Hopes game's setting old and Nintendo might fear that it would hurt the sales of this spin-off. Therefore, they will just sit on the unfinished game until 3H sells enough, and release it then. Maybe development for 3H took too long and delayed their plans, or it started later and they thought to do this.
@LCampoy8 you are confusing Emily Rogers with Samus Hunter
Sooo... Tokyo Sessions # FE 2 when...?
@Orokosaki The devs themselves saying it. It was even a news article 2 years ago on this site.
This does indeed sound fanservicey. But maybe there's a more tasteful way to pull off crossover summons than what we've seen in Heroes and Fates. The characters from the past actually reacting to the game's world and having a reason to be there would be a start, in terms of feeling like part of the game. I am tired of the protagonist being descended from gods or dragons and having superpowers though.
A release before holidays '22 would nice since there's no Zelda this year.
If true, I hope we have a bit before this releases. I just picked up Three Houses and have yet to actually play it. Which is the main reason why I'm skipping Three Hopes for now.
The summon characters from old FE games gimmick almost confirms its not a traditional FE game, no one would care about the new cast if you can play as everyones boy Roy. I would be all for a traditional jrpg Suikoden style but in FE universe though
There's alot of things in this Rumor that really make no sense.
Three Houses was released in 2019, so if this new game was finished last year then either the B Team at IS and Koei worked on this during Three Houses dev, or this game was only in development for 2.5 years at Most, or 1.5 years at worst.
Plus we can assume that Three Hopes was green lit for development just a few months after Three Houses released and became a hit, so again that would mean IS and Koei's B Team would be working on a new Mainline game.
Summoning old Lords from the series past is anything new, Awakening and Fates both had elements of this and it wasn't exactly a game seller.
Mother being a dragon is such a overused trope in FE that it almost sounds like a meme at this point.
Red and Blue Hair Protagonist sounds oddly specific...In fact, combining Red and Blue makes Purple, the hair color of Shez.
Really this entire Rumor could just be related to Three Hopes.
Being worked on by IS and Koei
Red and Blue Hair
Mother is a Dragon(Shez says they didn't know their birth parents and raised by a adopted mother so could work.)
Characters from the past(It's a Warriors game so very possible)
Not a Remake and is a brand new game.
Yeah pretty sure this is just Three Hopes...Not that I expect Emily Rogers or the writers at Nintendolife to actually put any research into stuff like this.
While I'm interested in this because I love the FE series, it is way too oversaturated. I want Nintendo to just release the already finished Advance wars remake on Switch BEFORE a new Fire Emblem game. It made sense to delay back in March but I'm sorry, it no longer makes sense at this point. We are past symbolism now and it is more effective to pull all Nintendo's business permanently out of Russia now than it is to delay a finished game's launch in other parts of the world. And we as consumers can do more by donating to aid organizations and lobbying our own politicians to do more to help Ukraine and that would be more effective than delaying Advance Wars any further.
Wasn't Emily Rogers the one that insisted Mother 3 would be released in English on the Wii U Virtual Console?
Three Houses is an all time great to me so I will be all over a new entry.
@Flint It's because Fire Emblem is Intelligent System's key IP and Intelligent Systems is one of Nintendo's biggest developers. It has a studio dedicated to it unlike a fair number of Nintendo IP that have
small Studios or Teams that produce multiple IP.
Also C-level is a bit dubious now. last I saw FE Three houses had sold around 3.5million copies which is in the range of the best selling Persona and the best selling Mario RPGs.
I would LOVE a new Fire Emblem!
@Sam_Loser2 The emblems sound very tacky.
So this could be added to the list but unreleased games along with Metroid prime trilogy apparently?
Plus advance wars but we know about that one…
@JokerCK
Regarding Fire Emblem Lords,
We've had 'Mother is a dragon' at least once, 'Marry a dragon' at least three times, 'has dragon blood' or 'marked by a dragon' every time except for Tellius and Magvel, and 'literal heart of a dragon' once.
I wish they'd branch out a bit.
Word up! A long finished new game this year. Also, a long fan-buzzed remake next year. Also, all FE representatives to be removed from SMBU in preparation for a thematic franchise-focused fighting game from Ark System Works. Also, a Tokyo Mirage Sessions sequel. Also, a life-sized Lucina figurine to be featured among My Nintendo rewards.
@nhSnork Also the M on Mario's cap will stand for "Marth" instead of Mario.
@Dr_Lugae Fire Emblem is in the same tier as Metroid and Kirby, a franchise that sells millions, but is just below the big four(Mario, Zelda, Pokemon, Animal Crossing)
Of those three, I think Fire Emblem has slipped ahead of Metroid and even Kirby.
@Dr_Lugae hol' up, you mean that all this time it hasn't?!🙀
I'd prefer a remake honestly. There's so many previous games that barely anyone has played (GBA games, Ike games, etc.)
Just curious, if a game has been finished for a year, but not yet released, what could be the reason for this?
Some screenshots are making the rounds now, this looks pretty legit to me.
https://imgur.com/a/HGYtCpt
@Dnj4 They have to find a spot for it in a busy schedule. Xenoblade 3 has also been finished a while.
I thought Fire Emblem Shadow and the Blade of Light was meant to be the anniversary game? I doubt Nintendo and Intelligent System were trying to release another mainline game a year after Three Houses. It's kinda obvious though that another mainline Fire Emblem game is on the way for the Switch.
I kind of hope in the new game talks. I loved three houses but it kind of felt they were trying to get in on Persona 5 and what made that game great. I also wonder how the game narratively or mechanically would've went if Edelgaurd, Claude, and Dimitri, were the focus rather than Byleth. I also kind of hope we have something like the monastery but its something more broken up into smaller big areas. The monastery while immersvie gets kinda repetitive on revisits. And triplely so if you're marathoning all 3 houses.
While I get the appeal of romancing who you want. I also kind of miss the scripted romances like Marth and Caeda or Alm and Celica. They were the real deal. The whole player romancing x nice but it kind of feels artificial. The characters only have chemistry to my will not chemistry of their own to get entranced with.
I can't wait! Although I have to admit I still haven't finished all paths of Fire Emblem Three Houses.
The character models look completely different from past Fire Emblem games so I can definitely believe Gust being apart of this game. The protagonist reminds me of the main character from SMT 5 to the point where I could see it being some fan made game. At the end of the day nothing is truly confirmed or legit until Nintendo confirms it themselves or reveals it.
Even "screenshots" now? Too bad we live in the post-MLPFiM world with that franchise's "leaks" and entire fake episode animatics (quickly unmasked by the staff, but still). Although I've already discussed the lose-lose situation in such cases elsewhere, too - either it's fake and the report is deliberately misleading the readers or it's real and the report is deliberately facilitating what could be essentially described as information smuggling. But if Equestria Daily never had a problem with either, I suppose it's naive to expect an even more click-concerned newsblog like NL to.
Seriously, though, what's with the influx of all this crap all of a sud- looks at the calendar ...oh. Right.😆
Saw this earlier, sincerely hope it's not the real thing. I was never much of a Fire Emblem fan, I liked the odd game. Awakening was fun even if the story was threadbare. Shadows of Valentia was a great time even if it was occasionally held back by being too faithful to its Famicom origins and Three Houses is still, in my mind one of the best games on Switch.
This looks like a major step back.
That single shot and the info looks/sounds terrible.
Don't care much for the Fire Emblem "cinematic universe" would much prefer each game was their own thing.
I have no clue whether or not any of this is fake but me getting the next game largely depends on whether or not they continue in the way of 3 Houses where they push more focus on things outside of the main tactics gameplay and keep making the progression & character growth increasingly more "open", for me that is just not what Fire Emblem is about.
Removed - trolling/baiting
@Expa0 Completely agree with you. While it's fun doing some crossover stuff now and then I most enjoy the series when it keep separate, does something refreshing with each entry. Really hoping this one is fake, but hey, if the leak is real at least we have a remake of Genealogy of the Holy War to look forward to.
There's still a chance this could be good but the images and info are really disappointing.
@DarthFoxMcCloud Oversaturated? I know pandemic time seems like a blur now but the last mainline FE game was in summer 2019, 3 years ago. Since then we had a DLC and now a Warriors game this year (oh and a limited localized rerelease of an old NES game). Like, is that oversaturated? Did I forget something?
Also, Nintendo's buisness is paused in Russia last time I checked. Probably don't technically leave because Russia would nationalize their assets if they do. Although I guess people in Russia can probably still find phisical games imported from other countries but Nintendo can do little to prevent that.
About the rest, yeah, Advance Wars should have a release day by now. And Ukraine needs support.
@mr_somewhere Isn't a bit early to just dismiss the game outright and say that we should look forward to a remake of a game that it's not even sure would ever exist?
Like, I know that if the details of Three Houses were leaked beforehand everyone would have hated it. "A school setting!1! In my Fire Emblem?!?!".
Seem like they are going back to a similar style to awakening which is good, hopefully this will be announce in this "months" Nintendo direct
Wow, that hair looks so dumb, especially after the top notch character design of the past. Nevertheless, more fire emblem is always a good thing.
These leaks look fake as hell. They look as it they're edited AI generated images.
@jowe_gw Unless I am misremembering things we also knew early on that there was going to be a timeskip and the school stuff was clearly going to bridge on to a more serious second half, but that could be me looking at things with rose-tinted glasses.
I was really soured on Fire Emblem by Fates and I didn't play anything for ages after so I admit I am being negative, once bitten twice shy as they say.
I hope it's good but all the early info is not at all encouraging. Of course I will reserve my final judgement for release and if it sounds good I will give it a go.
@mr_somewhere Post Fates I remember people being constantly angry about Fire Emblem. People took a while to warm up to Three Houses.
If there was a leak earlier that only explained the school setting and nothing else, people would have been furious.
Lol, they are just talking about the upcoming Fire emblem Warriors game! Speaking of that game: Is it normal that the icon of the demo has a splash of red, a bit like blood?
@jowe_gw True, but you could hardly blame them. I dismissed it for a while and didn't get round to Shadows of Valentia and the rest until much later, glad I did though. I would imagine the fan reaction to Fates was partly why Valentia didn't do too well, well that and the fact that it was a 3DS game releasing in 2017.
@Flint
Fire Emblem gets consistent releases because it has an entire development studio (Intelligent System) dedicated to it, while Donkey Kong and StarFox do not at the moment.
If Nintendo for some reason decided not to fund the development of a new Fire Emblem game, it's not like all those Intelligent System developers would start working on a new StarFox game instead 😂.
@mr_somewhere Yeah... I remember Fates (and specially it's story and some... exaggerated character designs) made it feel like they went too far. People were at least justified for being a bit worried.
There was a lot of cautious feeling before Three Houses released. Even tho it's hard to remember do to it's critical reception being much better than Fates.
Shadows of Valentia suffered from being a 2017 3DS game mainly.
Oh man, both the synopsis and the images raise red flags. Never in my life have I wanted so bad for a leak to be fake.
The nostalgia game already exists in Awakening and to my knowledge they're still updating Heroes.
Is it a guy? I thought we could choose the gender. Oh well.
That hair is uh... Interesting. I wish we could return to when the main lord wasn't a player avatar. At least with Byleth, their lack of personality was a literal plot point.
Just hook it up to my veins!
@jowe_gw Oversaturated in that I have been playing FE games since the GameCube era and in comparison IntelligentSystem's other gem, Advance Wars has gotten remarkably less love. I'm a huge fan of Fire Emblem, I love the games, but ever since Days of Ruin I have been hoping the Advance Wars series would get new games just as frequently. And every time they get close, something happens to derail it. All I'm saying is I would like to see Advance Wars get a little more love before we move on to yet another Fire Emblem game, which I'll still enjoy once that releases too.
@DarthFoxMcCloud I mean... Let's see how the remakes does. I hope it does ok at least and they see some potential.
But the fact that Advance Wars got less love doesn't mean FE is oversaturated.
Why is protag hair becoming increasingly worse...
It looks like a spin off and I wouldn't mind a non strategy jrpg Fire Emblem tbh!
It's pretty annoying that this has potentially been finished a year.
I know game companies do that often, and especially Nintendo.
I know it's a strategic choice to not let games cannibalise each other, and ensure they're launched at the right time.
But really that should be a privilege you have when launching a lot of first party games. There has been barely anything from Nintendo this year, and this being released was sorely needed.
It's typically hardcore gamers who enjoy bigger, meatier titles who complain about switch releases because things like Mario Strikers can't keep them busy for long. Well, this is the exact game that could have kept those people happy for a while.
So this, Advance Wars, and (it seems likely) Metroid Prime Trilogy have just been sitting on a shelf at Nintendo without getting released?
I'm really sick of this. I'd love to have more to play but don't have anything from them until FEW and Xeno 3 this year
@NerdyBoutKirby
Those are my two favorite FE games. The story in those is so relevant to what the world is going through today. Also, each stage was so meticulously crafted to only be beatable - without permadeath - by using one's thinking cap and planning carefully.
I'm playing through them right now. The more recent games are very good, but have spoiled me for the difficult. PoR and RD are incredibly unforgiving, yet rewarding, in comparison.
Of course, I'm just speaking for my personal experience here.
@wanghosom so, basically Tokyo mirage sessions 2?
@twztid13 a (really good) persona game with fire emblem characters? Nope, I meant what I wrote.
What we all need is a remaster of the GCN and Wii games in one package. I foolishly sold my copies for what I thought was a huge sum. The prices now make repurchase impossible. 😩
