It only made sense to talk about console power and to leave Nintendo out of the conversation when the Wii came out though during that generation Nintendo obliterated Microsoft and Sony in sales.
When you talk about sales and income it also doesn't make any sense, it's almost like Sony moved the goalpost just because they don't sell as well as Nintendo again.
Both conversations can be true where each is leading the mindshare of the console #1 platform but at the end of the day Nintendo currently sells more than PlayStation. That is what matters anyways to investors and Nintendo makes more exclusives (than any other platform) so that also matters to some consumers.
Really all this means PlayStation is using this strategy to make the most money they can which is admirable.
Well this is simple, if a playable game isn't on the card then there is no reason to buy new or ever. And let's talk about price too, old games at least $10 if not $20 too much while being a game-key card.
This isn't shocking news and was easily seen well before launch, especially when most Switch 1 games on card are playable without a download. Publishers made the wrong decisions and this is the outcome. They lose.
CDPR doing a full game on card plus an expansion is worthy of $60-$70, that's the only way your gonna sell a physical Switch 2 game to a Switch 1 audience. They were the only publisher/dev that took it seriously, besides Nintendo. Let's hope publishers learn otherwise the Switch 2 physical presence will go the way of how Xbox is operating.
@axelhander yeah I think many of us with more premium phones, tablets, handhelds, consoles, PC parts, monitors, TV, etc. are still bummed by what has ended up as the Switch 2 hardware itself.
They barely did the baseline of what we expected, still they cheaped out for $450 USD. The controllers and the dock itself are the worst offenders. How does a dock not output VRR but 4k60fps or 1080p120fps? Also why does barely hitting the back of the dock just tip over the Switch 2? Major QA/design problems here so I've had to wedge my Switch 2 docked between an Xbox 360 & Xbox 360 HD-DVD drive in my entertainment system so when I put in/take out game cards it doesn't just crumble over and bust the screen inside the dock when managing a physical game card.
The lack of any magnetic sensors in Joy-Cons or even a freaking $85 "Pro" controller is just an insult. Oh and do you want to turn on your Switch from a couch without Joy-Con 2? Yeah it requires that $85 "Pro" controller.
There are so many good things here with the software emulation with old Switch 1 games, the majority of my time with my Switch 2. BoTW and ToTK 4k60fps upgrades are excellent also. Mario Kart World is the most Nintendo 'fine' release, perfectly acceptable though the sole new mode is a giant waste of time. Absolutely not worth close to $80 USD though understand people that love MK online it probably is worth $50 with the bundle.
I've had a ton of fun but basically only with the advertising 3D Switch Zelda upgrades, otherwise old stuff running at locked 30fps (finally) or at/close to 60fps. Most of the new launch games simply aren't that good or just okay at best. Still haven't played CP2077 or SF6 and I will admit they seem like good releases but again not new games.
@Sirko seems like Hello Games is the only 3rd party that gave a free upgrade, unless you count Epic Games and Fortnite. It really seems that hardly any of the devs care.
@Ramouz agreed the lack of any human hand-like grips on the Joy-Con are just beyond embarrassing.
Worst part about this controller is it's $85 to be able to turn on my Switch 2 from my couch. Sure you can with joy-con 2 with controller adapter but they are still bad.
@RCGamer unfortunately the joy-con 2 have been taken apart and no Hall, TMR, or any magnetic sensors for the sticks. So Pro 2 could have it but the likelihood is almost 0% until someone rips one open. Again more reason to wait or not buy it at this time.
@Ramouz artifacting from non smooth transitions of frames. You just likely are not sensitive to the difference between FSR2 and even early version of DLSS on PC. If it's good to you that's fine but it's incredibly noticable to me and others looking subpar with noticable pixels.
@Ramouz it's extremely grainy with any version of FSR (PC and consoles). With DLSS it's better but still is one of the rougher looking AAA games. At least with the Switch 2 it will likely use DLSS from 540p to get to 1080p. This version will be interesting.
Just like Cyberpunk 2077 this game looks close to impossible or shouldn't be running on Switch 2. I definitely have to play this version alongside PC to see it's compromises/portability.
@axelhander any controller could work even 8bitdo controllers, because it works with button press + controller shake.
This is simply Nintendo being petty and they know not allowing it in 3rd party controllers with a single button press forces people to buy official Pro controller. Which equals more money for them.
@Max_the_German from a price perspective yes this helps quite a bit, but I personally would never want to use a DS4 again. Hell I sold all of mine at or before launch of PS5 and have never missed it, at all.
@TheBoilerman Sports teams, lack of money and have it justify their purchase, being jerks, etc. it's all the same short sided mentally that's gone on for decades to fuel a personal 'console war'.
@Antraxx777 Exactly. Prices are going up not down, so if your someone worried about cost of games it's best to pick option 1 or 2 not 3:
1. Find a good price on a PC key
2. Play it on GamePass
3. Suck up price increases and play on the most popular [console] brands Nintendo & PlayStation. (Neither rarely get decent sales until years later)
@DaniPooo can we not with excuses? Xbox with the One S had VRR in August of 2016. Almost a decade ago another company figured it out via HDMI on console. They are working with THE BEST PC hardware company Nvidia for multiple decades now, I'm sure they can figure out a solution.
This will be a huge letdown if Nintendo doesn't get VRR working into the dock. This is a huge reason for me to even upgrade to 2 to play lots of Switch 1 games at max framerates (30 fps) or the games with 60fps modes VRR would take of any rogue dips.
It's always something with Nintendo. Always.
Can we not want Nintendo to do better? Sounds like a weird thing to say but some people here are just like "it's fine", well for $500 console we should want Nintendo to do better if we are forking over more money for a better console.
Great for launch, but ultimately this is going to be Nintendo’s most expensive console by a long shot. I hope I can get one either based on Nintendo entry or at a retailer but if I cannot at launch I might be skipping this Nintendo generation fully just due to prices/tariffs/world economy.
@Antraxx777 that can be said for any game even single player games through replay value. I don't have an issue with $80 or even $100 due to how much games with all DLC and explanations cost now.
My issue is the perceived value of this game. I don't see it for myself but others I understand the same type of Mario Kart is worth it. And that's fine.
@sanderev I agree with this if this game was a brand new F-ZERO game I'd highly consider it. But it isn't, and I'm happy for people excited about this game.
If DK Bananza was $80 I'd still buy it (when I do get a Switch 2). I don't think $80 is the problem, it's the perceived value of this game that is the problem. And it seems others that are more MK fan than me see this problem as well.
Absolutely not worth $80, let alone $70/$60. If it reviews well and there is no paid DLC might be a good pop-in and pop-out game. Grinding, new items, food based costumes and new characters? All cool and new great stuff, but seems very baseline for a new entry.
It seems the most safe boring/but changed Mario Kart ever. They are finally in the Xbox 360 generation.
Of all the things Nintendo does to ignore devs and customers, they chose to listen to ‘some Devs’ on triggers and out right ignore all the other existing controllers, and customers that want analog.
The reasons Nintendo gives for decisions still astounds me.
It definitely looks much better than MK7/MK8/MK8D.
Wider tracks? What? And stay the same speed? Huge disappointment. Grinding and flying around? Yeah looks awesome. Slower to get boosts? Dumb as hell, MK games are slow enough.
I see good and also hugely disappointing features in World, but I’m gonna be honest MK is just too slow and boring for me. I need a brand new 3D F-ZERO any day now.
The reality is Nintendo did the math and they ultimately believe another $10 was worth charging.
Is it worth it to you? Just vote with your wallet. No one needs to get upset. During the 90s RPG SNES games with bigger chips as a requirement and had a battery which made those games cost more. $70-$90. This is in the realm of the same problem in some ways, you want the games with more content or fit all on the game card? It's going to be $69-$79 now.
If you don't like it? Wait for a sale, someday. Nintendo sets the rules (as well with publishers) on their own platforms for prices. If truly enough people don't buy the games potentially some games might lower prices sooner than later.
@ryan_nil It will not just like the Wii, Wii U, and 3DS stores. People with local copies or 'online backups' will be the only way they are available/archived those stores.
The good side to this conversation is Switch was the start of a new service, Nintendo Account, and Store so you would think just like 'Xbox One and onward' or 'PS4 and onward' type support. I.e. very long-term multiple decades at minimum something more like Steam.
I don't like the idea of buying game key cards but the way I see it is it isn't money lost like digital codes.
If publishers make their games $69-$79 the game sure as hell better been fully on a game card.
If publishers make their games $29-$59 I can understand they are trying to give us a discount and cheaping out putting the game on a game key card that I can resell.
With having game-key card system this makes no sense.
Then you think well Switch doesn't have that system in place so unless they put a different full version with dlc on Switch 2 red cart then this is why it's happening.
I'm just gonna get physical Switch 1 boxes or finish up using my vouchers and maybe pay for the Switch 2 upgrade if really interested in the upgrade digital. The box is a waste for these.
This is literally just 'not fully on card' games already on Switch. No where does it say it's one time use key. It's a game card with a key owned to it. You can resell the game-key card games.
This isn't like one time codes this is basically exactly like most Series X games where some or none of the game is on the disc and your disc is your "key/entitlement/license".
How is this so widely being informed incorrectly????
'Instead, the game-key card is your "key" to downloading the full game to your system via the internet.'
This does NOT mean it's one time usage like a code. Please stop spreading misinformation.
Leaks were spot on and Nintendo did d*** to contain them or properly announce the console at the correct time.
The correct time was last fall when there was a light release schedule of Switch games. Give a few more game appearances and leave the mystery until January/February then show this trailer we got then price, and release date with another announcement before April of a Switch 2 show of games with prices/release dates. I think more of a move from Switch 2 to Switch 3 could have a harder time moving from previous generation hardware when it hits more diminishing returns on just better Nvidia hardware with what multi frame generation or Neural rendering? How does that in theory either help Nintendo first party games? A few more frames with the same input latency, or movie quality assets on an 8 inch tablet?
About time... I got 2-3 good years out mine as day one owner. It's time for actually new hardware for a new generation and some backwards compatibility for Switch 1 games being there day one. No excuses, and no more than $399.
#1 F-ZERO 99 #2 Super Mario Wonder #3 Octopath Traveler II #4 Star Ocean The Second Story R #5 Blasphemous II
TotK barely made out of my top 5 Switch games at #6 and really I went back and forth with it and Sea of Stars. No question F-ZERO 99 was #1 by many many miles even over SMB Wonder, and it plus OPII were fantastic. A great year for games!
@Serpenterror yeah that's definitely the only logical reason other than they don't have any good ideas, they should just admit it. But spending millions on 1 2 Switch thinking anyone really cares is just funny to me, actually hilarious. Especially when a new Wario party game is coming THIS YEAR and is what everyone would want from a party game besides Mario Party mini games.

Re: Rumour: 'Switch 2' Will Reportedly Be Officially Revealed This Thursday
About time... I got 2-3 good years out mine as day one owner.
It's time for actually new hardware for a new generation and some backwards compatibility for Switch 1 games being there day one.
No excuses, and no more than $399.
Re: So, Will You Be Listening To The New Mobile App Nintendo Music?
I will absolutely not be using another app that sucks from Nintendo on a phone.
Re: Poll: Rate Your Favourite Switch Games Of The Year 2023
#1 F-ZERO 99
#2 Super Mario Wonder
#3 Octopath Traveler II
#4 Star Ocean The Second Story R
#5 Blasphemous II
TotK barely made out of my top 5 Switch games at #6 and really I went back and forth with it and Sea of Stars.
No question F-ZERO 99 was #1 by many many miles even over SMB Wonder, and it plus OPII were fantastic. A great year for games!
Re: 3DS Beat 'Em Up River City: Rival Showdown Comes To Switch This October
Fun game liked the 3ds version.
Re: Takaya Imamura: F-Zero Hasn't Been Revived Because Mario Kart Is Nintendo's "Most Popular Racing Game"
