I live in Tokyo and was in a electronics shop on launch day around 9pm and there was a long line of people with arms full of smash related stuff, amiiboos, smash branded pro controllers, GameCube controllers, etc. Nintendo made a LOT of money on this.

Two things I don't remember about R-Type:

1. Do you have to tap the shoot button, or do you just "hold and go"

2. When you die are you instantly respwaned or does the death set you back in the stage and take s few seconds to "reload?"

Reggie is right. Just because you have snappy fast internet access does not mean everyone in your market does. I've traveled a lot and really good internet is not as common as some people assume it is, even in developed countries, especially outside of major cities.

I suppose if you are from Europe you could feel that way, but the reality is the SNES sold 49.1 million units to the genesis/MD's 30.75. And that's just hardware, look at software sales.

I'd love to see a compilation port of a bunch of different Tetris games on Swiitch. From the NES version to the amazing Tetris DS to something new, maybe all with online multiplayer bundled in.

@Osiris11235 I do speak Japanese and I looked at the article this is sourced from. Glancing about it the takeaway I have is that they started with 107 elementary kids and 107 middle school kids among the entire set of people polled and then weeded out kids without a game system, and then weeded out kids that don't listen to music and then asked the few left if they use their 3DS, and the answer was "some do." But the sample size is so tiny at this point it's not even really information anymore. Hahahahaha.

@imgrowinglegs You don't need a Japanese license. At the most you need a international drivers permit (essentially a $15 translation from AAA if you are American) but people have told me Maricar doesn't even require that in practice. The customers are nearly all non-residents of Japan.

Been a resident of Tokyo for 5 years, I'm glad to see Nintendo win this. The kart company has a bad image with locals, you often see them getting in the way of traffic lights and intersections as they travel in a long line and there are also frequent fender bender with tourists hitting other cars while trying to take selfies while driving. The average citizen may assume this an officially sponsored Nintendo activity and when bad things happen are likely to think poorly of Nintendo for it, despite them having nothing to do with it.

Is it just me or is the price of Mega Man 11 a bit steep? Weren't 9 and 10 a lot less when they launched?
