Where that Metroid Prime Trilogy for switch though, I’m hurting for it real bad 😞
Where's Mother 3?
where's birdo?
Total disappointment and just by looking at the nominees on all categories... my godness what a dry year 2018 for the Switch... o_O
I didn't watch it at all.
My focus is on ARMS Party Crash Event start from 7 - 10 December 2018.
I will use Springman again during the event.
For an awards show, the announcements were great imo. Mortal Kombat, Marvel and CTR all headed to Switch plus Joker in Smash? Not bad.
@JesWood13 That was a rumor. And you know at least 50% of the rumors aren't true.
Also if it's coming, we'll see it in a Direct.
@Cobalt
Dry year is very Subjective.
For you, 2018 = Dry year for Switch due to lack of AAA games you talked a lot on PS4 Thread.
But for me, 2018 = Fruitful year for A LOT of Cute / Kiddie games on Switch. Ports, Remaster, etc during year 2018, like Oasis in the desert.
@KryptoniteKrunch Yep! Just that people set their expectations too high XD
I find it so annoying how the same people will write the same hot garbage if any news comes out for the Switch. How they're disappointed, how Nintendo does everything wrong and how they hate every game.
This awards show brought a lot more than I expected at all, it seems to get better and more relevant as a show year by year for gaming. Those disappointed either didn't see something they thought they were going to see or just whine because they don't know how to do anything else in life, @Cobalt.
@KryptoniteKrunch @Yasaal Why do so many people expect a large amount of game announcements for a single console when all of the other consoles + PC have a chance at getting games/game updates? This is TGA, not Nintendo @ E3.
@Varkster It really is hard to believe the ceremony started only five years ago. It’s way more interesting than many other awards shows.
On the bright side, we should be getting a Nintendo direct soon which should be setting up 2019, which is where we could be getting some Metroid announcements and stuff.
It also makes sense why Nintendo would prioritize Smash DLC news over a Metroid Prime 4 reveal. Since Metroid Prime 4 might not release next year, or if it does then it'll be around the holiday season. And Smash Ultimate is coming out tomorrow, and they want everyone to get onboard with it. And what better way to bring over Playstation players than to have a Persona 5 character in it, a character from a series almost exclusive to the PlayStation. It's smart to do the Smash announcement now and reveal some games during a Nintendo Direct.
It was a pretry good show in terms of announcements. Still not surprised by the lack of skywards sword or metroid trilogy. Think the TGA is for new games and some dlc announcements. Not for ports as then people would be disappointed
@Anti-Matter
Do you like cute/kids games then?
Joker in Smash, Marvel UA 3, Outerwilds and Dragon Age 4 were the only things I really cared about, which isn't too bad really. Oh yeah, the Stanley Parable on consoles as well, which hopefully includes switch.
I thought it was a tedious drawn out borefest. But then its an awards show they normally aren't that great at entertainment.
Announcements were decent but definitely nothing that actually warrented anticipating throughout the entire show.
@Varkster I’m a casual gamer and even I was bummed - I went on twitter 3 times this morning to see some ‘big announcement news’ no Alien blackout, no Metroid news, not even the remastered trilogy (or ported trilogy). We’re how far into the switch’s lifecycle and they’re pumping out 3 NES games a month to NES Online. They need to get a grip and give the people the news they want and sort out whatever the bell they’re doing with the back catalogue on switch. We are living in a world where China can play super Mario galaxy, Metroid Prime and Zelda on the Nvidia Shield in 1080p+ and we’re getting ready 30 year old 8bit games on subscription.... totally bewildering.
Overall the awards show had some good reveals for multiple formats, a bit disappointed that Nintendo's reveal was just another Smash character and one from a PlayStation game albeit a very good one. Next year is shaping up nicely
I just cannot get over joker being in smash he is so gonna be my main
There was never any solid proof of Metroid Prime Trilogy. Even that Swedish retailer said he listed it purely upon speculation, but I don't think we wanted to listen.
However I'm still quite shocked over zero major first-party Nintendo game content. I thought we'd see some Prime 4.
I regret bothering to stay up here in the UK. The show was generally dire in my opinion. With or without Nintendo the show was mostly moronic and painful to get through. Almost all the games revealed were of more appeal to PS4 and XBox players. Switch owners were far, far from the core target audience with this show. It's like Hollywood vs Cannes with Cannes alway being far more interesting. This was the mass appeal Hollywood show of gaming and not the right place for Nintendo. Mostly it was so called 'mature' games with zero originality in general, with occasionally one or too far more interesting indies. I gave up at about 4am.
And I guess he simply likes his T-Shirts
For all who were disappointed with Nintendo's announcements... (me included, kind of...), usually this show isn't the place to announce big things. Nintendo will do that during the January Direct. They always do that.
Having said that, I must say that I was disappointed with no Metroid news, but Mortal Kombat 11 coming for Switch is a very big deal, and the exclusivity of Marvel UA 3 is huuuuuuge (I think I'm still lacking several "u" in that word to make it even clearer) and with Nintendo publishing the game, I don't think this is a "timed exclusivity " but real, total, complete exclusivity.
right now if you check Twitter you will see a good chunk of Xbox and PS fans complaining about it. Obviously I'm not saying that I'm glad that the other consoles won't get the game, I'm just saying that a game like that being exclusive to Switch is a very big deal.
C’mon people. You were going on rumors from random redditors, YouTube personalities, and some Swedish game retailer. Some people were expecting Skyward Sword, Metroid Prime Trilogy, and MP4 all on the eve of Smash Bros. Being released. This would have made little sense for Nintendo from a business perspective.
Mortal Kombat 11? The Outer Worlds? Joker in Smash? Yes. I am hyped. Especially for Joker.
I stayed awake for it, but fell asleep midstream, because of how boring the presentation was... also I was quite surprised with how they handled the prie for best RPG; it was like "Really, you drop it all together with eSports?"
I also had hoped for better announcements in general, but ohhhh well!
@Cobalt I don't get the reason for such a disappointment as Nintendo was the only company to show a new exclusive... And quite a big one actually
The Nintendo-related announcements were better then expected.
The rumor was a Wii remaster, what we got instead was a multiplatform remake of a game that was previously Sony exclusive (CTR), some new indies including a Switch exclusive, participation in a AAA multiplatform release (MK) and a really great new exclusive that's a sequel to a previously multiplatform franchise (Marvel).
I figured we'd get a Smash character announced, but I also figured we'd get at least one game announcement...
I hope that Persona 5 rumor is true. I would really like to play that.
Nintendo fans are so fickle lol. Oh man....reading the messages make me shake my head. If Nintendo went hardcore with 1st party stuff ....people would be like "where's the 3rd party support?".
I thought Nintendo did a great job at the Game Awards. Look, Nintendo fans buy Nintendo products, watch Nintendo Directs, and they know when the 1st party Nintendo games are launching. But the Game Awards have a much broader audience and Nintendo showed great 3rd party support for the console! I really like that they focused on games like Marvel Ultimate Alliance (3rd party IP) and were part of mentions like Crash Team Racing and Mortal Kombat 11. We already know a swath of 1st party titles are coming and now we know lots of 3rd party support, too.
Nintendo fans ....be honest with yourself.....unless you get exactly what you want all the time, are you able to objectively be happy with Nintendo? I don't get it......I thought the Nintendo Switch had lots of mentions last night.
@Cobalt, yeah... my wallet says otherwise buddy. I still bought more games for my Switch than my PS4 and Xbox One combined.
I'm not happy by most of the nominees, but the announcemnets were awesome!
Difficult to not feel a little disappointed that Metroid 4 didn't make an appearance... but, seeing all of the 3rd party game announcements that are coming over to Switch, I can see why Nintendo felt there was enough big news already without them needing to take their focus off Smash Bros Ultimate. So, in fairness, it all makes perfect sense and as many predicted a DLC character announcement helps to boost the Fighter Pass at launch (the highest amount of Fighter Passes will be purchased in the first few weeks of the game coming out).
There will surely be a January Direct, and that will at least give us some news and dates on Fire Emblem and Yoshi... hopefully it will give us a few other nice surprises for the first half of 2019 too.
Animal Crossing, Luigi's Mansion 3 and Pokemon are clearly all second half of 2019, so I'm not sure we'll hear on those until the end of Spring... Metroid 4 is a tricky one. If the Trilogy is getting an HD release, then perhaps we will indeed hear something about Metroid 4 soon... but it feels like E3 will be the earliest now.
I didn't watch cause I knew Nintendo wouldn't announce jack. I only come here for the news of the third party stuff that did get shown.
I undestand the dissapointment of some, I was expecting the Prime trilogy as well. But that's just honestly not managing your expectations well. In retrospective, it was a pretty nice set of announcements out of nowhere!
In 2017 we only saw a tiny teaser of Bayonetta 3, and a trailer for the second DLC pack of BotW.
In 2016 what did we get? I think it was a Zelda video. That's it. Before that we got Nothing for Nintendo games (there was a Satoru Iwata tribute which is awesome, but the topic is games announced for Nintendo).
If you want to go even further you'll see the infamous Cranky Kong announcement for Tropical Freeze.
So, 2018?
-That new music rhythm game,
-Crash Team Racing
-Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 exclusive
-Mortal Freaking Kombat 11
-Smash first DLC with Persona 5
-Other bits here and there for everyone like Dauntless coming and updates for Rocket league, warframe or fortnite.
It actually was a neat show. Something for everyone.
I fully expected to wake up to some form of Metroid news, and whilst it was disappointing samus didn't show, the very unexpected third party announcements (mortal kombat 11, MUA3) more than made up for it. Metroid is coming, we all know it is, patience padawans.
Why is anyone disappointed for an award show like they thought it was going to be a direct or an E3. If you’re disappointed you have unreal expectations
No Metroid, No Bayonetta and a third party DLC character that no one asked for. The hype was overhyped by Nintendo themselves
I was hopping for a Metroid Prime 4 teaser trailer..
Next time no furries please
Man, Reggie is such a troll. Wearing that Ridley shirt and directly pointing out that he's wearing it while giving no info about Metroid. The Joker in Smash announcement was awesome but why you gotta lead us on, Reggie!?
It was fun making fun of all the really bad, cringy material that happened during the show.
@Varkster Whoa, that’s a little petty and targeted. If you liked the show, that’s great, but if there are people that didn’t like the show or don’t like a particular game that was announced, they are just as entitled as you are to state why they dislike it. Or, should we just silence everyone that disagrees with you?
@CrazyMetroid That’s a grossly untrue statement lmao
@Cobalt It’s true. This year, I bought 3-4 games for my Switch and I bought 8 PSONE games for my Japanese PSOne console. BUT DON’T DISAGREE WITH THE CROWD OR YOU’RE A TROLL AMIRITE
I have to say, until Dark Souls and The Messenger came out, I almost sold my Switch! Mario Odyssey was boring and was my first cart, and the sheer amount of shovel-I mean, iPhone releases on the eshop are staggering.
I’m all for more games, but the announcements they chose to reveal at the game awards were baffling.
Not a lot of great game were announced in the event. I know it isn't the purpose of the event, but at this point it has become an expectation. It was a little disappointed that Nintendo presence in the event was so small. I was hoping to see at least something Bayonetta related since they've been silent since last's year VGA, but we at least got a DLC character for Smash.
And Reggie knows we want Metroid. He knows. His shirt wasn't random at all.
I thought the surprises were awesome, especially Marvel! But I thought for sure we would see at least a teaser from Metroid.
@goggles789
The majority of my friends wanted to sell their Switch too but one of them decided to modify his Switch and then the others followed after they had seen the full potential of the system then...
It's insane what you can do with a Switch while Nintendo does "nothing" officially... oops... The NES roms every month, yeah they do that... :/
@Cobalt I’m very tempted to mod mine. Is it easy to do, and low risk? I also wanted to mod my Wii U but I heard that’s easy to brick...
Unpopular opinion alert
I watched most of the show but tuned out early since I wasn't feeling the best. My whole reception to the thing was kind of meh. Some of the game announcements were/looked decent, but none of them knocked me out of my seat either.
As for the awards themselves, I'm sure many of them were well-deserved in their respective categories, and I do agree with some of them. But a lot of the nominees in the different categories were the same. I found myself thinking "Really, these again?" more than once. I'm sure that this spoke volumes about those games, but at the same time I would have liked more variety.
For those who were satisfied with the results and previews, great! But with my own unique interests, the whole thing was kind of so-so.
Coz nothing appeals to me really and I didn't watch it all as I start work at 5am :/ it was a snorefest
@jly1987 when Nintendo say things like... https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2018/12/nintendo_tells_fans_to_tune_into_the_game_awards_tomorrow_reveals_incoming
@goggles789 Buddy, I targeted him for a very specific reason which I pointed out in my comment. Don't like that I can be just as honest about people as they are about the Switch? Don't read my comments.
Entitled people
@Coatesy82 Marvel Ultimate Alliance is a pretty significant reveal
@jly1987 yeah, I agree it’s significant or rather, surprising from the perspective that it’s exclusive to Switch. I’m not here to be butt-hurt about what ninty do or don’t do. I’ve got my annual pay review to look forward to for that.
@PolarExperience Exactly!
@Cobalt - A troll of the lowest order. Further demonstrated by your mass murderer gif (lulz welcome to the internets amirite?)
I am not sure why people were expecting the game awards to turn into a Nintendo direct. This show was on the eve of their biggest game release of the year. They are totally focused on Smash, not starting the hype train anew for another first party title. It is simple business practices. They are focused on Smash until the holidays are over, hence the Dlc announcement.
The Smash release period will settle down and then Nintendo will come out with Metroid, etc.
@Mallow
At least you have some kind of culture and I must say that I'm impressed... Kudos to you.
Now, if you're right or not... ahem... dunno man but what I'm convinced of is that I just give an opinion and I'm totally fine with people who don't share the same...
@goggles789 How dramatic. 😂
@Varkster Yes, you are.
@MrRandomHero you forgot mk11
@goggles789 you say that my statement is untrue yet you proved me right yourself.
Comedy gold.
@goggles789 lmao first of all I check here during my free time. Secondly I did not edit my comment. What are you on about?
Pretty cool event. (Not sure what happened to the comments here, but, um, yeah.) Loved hearing some live orchestra playing of Celeste with Lena Raine in there even though it was brief. Being 5 years old, and full of "nerd" winners, it's not surprising that people aren't sure what tone to strike or how to accept these awards.
Some did great, though. (One hint: Don't talk about how nervous you are, or how you don't know what to say, or that you didn't plan a speech, or that you aren't good with words, just get to saying thank you, and either say more or don't!)
As for expectations and hopes. Awards shows are interesting because everyone wants their favorite to win even though they have often only experienced one or two of the nominees and the enjoyment of games is highly subjective. I'm happy when a fave wins something, but I find the nominee list is the most useful list to see if there are some games that might be interesting.
It's also a perspective from the industry and the actual creators of the games. It was nice to see respect thrown out to presenters and between each other.
I'd like to see the show focus a bit more on the behind the scenes side of games. I'd like the premieres to morph into to teasers with some insight into the team creating the game: brief interview in their element/studio. Celebrate the creation of games and bring awareness to how crazy hard it is to pull off. Would have to remain very streamlined, though.
@goggles789 He's telling the truth. I did not see him edited his comment. I don't want to argue with you, but you're attacking and accusing someone of something he didn't do without any evidence.
I am getting Switch for Christmas from my spouse. Jumping over from Vita. Wii was the only Nintendo I ever had. Pretty stoked for this. Will pick up Zelda, Mario Odyssey and Skyrim (I am not into Smash or Pokemon). Would love to have Nintendo (and 3rd party) release these:
Mario Galaxy 1/2 HD collection.
NHL game (it has not been on a handheld for over a decade).
Borderlands Handsome Collection (or something first person in addition to Doom/Wolfenstein).
GTA5 (if Switch can't handle it, then all the Rockstar classics like San Andreas). More open world games ( like Saints Row 3rd that is incoming).
More Zelda games.
Fallout 3 and NV.
Cannot wait until Christmas.
@Mallow I’ve reported that GIF twice now, but the mods let it be. I feel that it is very distasteful and respectless (though not surprising, given who the poster is) to post a gif with a nazi terrorist and child mass-murderer, yet it seems to be OK at NL...
