@metaphysician Being able to share with a friend or resell is not a benefit compared to digital? Surely you can see they are better than code in a box for this reason. Full disclosure I buy mostly physical. I haven't got any GKCs yet but have pre-ordered FFVII Remake and RE Generations. I'll play them and then probably sell them once I'm done with them. I do agree that for collectors they aren't as great as a physical cart.
@8bit-Man You do you but can you fill me in on your main gripe with GKCs? Every game under the sun nowadays has a day one patch and multiple updates so even physical game cartridges don't hold the version of the game 99% of players would want to play (unless incomplete, buggy games is their jam). So is it just an objection to having to use hard drive space or the worry of having nothing to play in the event of a nuclear holocaust (and you've accidentally deleted your download of course)? Genuinely curious. I'll also add some games today literally don't fit on the biggest cart, games generally load a bit faster from the hard drive, and GKCs can be resold.
Wow this is music to my ears, great review. I can't wait to dig in to this later this week. I now have two nights to finish off Age of Calamity (I'm on chapter 6) which I went back to in anticipation.
@Qwiff I think you'll find a next gen Zelda is mere days away! I'm joking of course and I get what you are saying but I'm super excited about Age of Imprisonment
Did Nintendo secretly make MK World a pack in? The combo of selling the game at $80 and offering it at $50 with the bundle seems to have led most people to go for the latter. Anywho, great to see it selling so well as it means it'll be around for a while like it's predecessor.
More evidence that this is from the Odyssey team. Odyssey's file size was 5.6 GB so this seems about right for a Switch 2 "follow-up" that suggests the game will be of a similar scope. I'll be getting this digitally so I'm glad it won't be taking up to much space as it's one I don't think I'll ever want to delete. Can't wait
I started listening to these in the run up to Switch 2 because I was eager for any content related to the new console. I've since unsubscribed and won't be listening to anything else as I find them super annoying as they come across as disgruntled ex-employees jumping on anything they can to have a dig at their former employer.
Shigeru Myamoto wasn't credited in Mario Kart World despite being a driving force behind the original concept because, guess what, he had no role in the development of that game. I think that's probably the way to go or else the credits list would be endless. People just use bad faith arguments like this as a stick to beat Nintendo. The same practise takes place in all games and nothing is mentioned.
Nintendo clearly dominates Japan and I don't think these numbers nclude Nintendo's official store. Nice to see PS5 doing well, looks like it will outsell the PS4 soon.
Low effort third party ports will deservedly not sell well on a Nintendo console. Put the effort in, like Capcom have done with games like Rise and SF6, or CDPR did with Cyberpunk and you'll do a lot better. When you're competing with Nintendo published games, low effort ports won't cut it.
Wild how people had written this off after a short trailer and 20 minute demo. The destructible environments had me sold from the start but what they showed today was incredible. Looks like so much fun and it looks like there is going to be a lot of content to dig in to. Mario Kart World and Cyberpunk will keep me going until it launches. What a great start to this gen.
Zelda notes is cool. There are loads of reasons why it's in the app. Second screen, QR codes, photo editing etc. One of the greatest games of all time now runs at 60Hz. 8/10 How did this review score get through editorial?
The open world is amazing. Beautiful vistas, fun challenges, exploring each circuit to find question mark blocks and peach medallions and an incredible soundtrack. I've enjoyed all of the 100 or so P block missions one fine so far and some have been incredible, shout out to rescuing through the city. I seriously don't get the general apathy to this mode. People keep mentioning burnout and forza (I love both games) but I don't know what they do that this doesn't. This is just a slightly more chill version. I'd suggest the latest episode of the back page podcast for people who are tired of all these bad takes from people who have probably only spent about half an hour in free roam and given up. They give this game and the switch 2 in general a fair shake and don't follow the general consensus who like to complain.
I find it very strange to see World at 5. It surely should be 1 or 2. MK8 took Mario Kart to the next level in terms of mechanics, visuals, sound and gameplay depth. World has taken that to another level and added an open world. The games before this are all good but are not in the same league. For me, World is the best but can see why some people may still choose MK8. For now, I feel like some people are criticising World for the things it isn't but in years to come will praise it for this things it is. Or they just have bad taste.
I think time will prove this to be one of the best entries in the series, and the lower scores are largely due to it following 8 which was exceptional. It was such a hard game to follow and they've done that with a totally new open world concept that works. 8 is still there and I can go back and play it when I want so I'm glad they took a new approach here that is largely successful. A 9 for me and I can see it becoming a 10 as they add more content.
This seems fine to me and is in line with what I'm experiencing. Obviously I'd prefer longer but I've bought a case that is big enough to carry a battery pack so I'm all good for extended handheld play sessions when they do happen.
@SillyG Good point on flight mode - if I don't need to be online I'll try enabling this to see if it gives me a bit longer.
Classic Grand Prix can be setup via the versus mode so we should really stop moaning about the Inbetween track sections now (which I like btw). Also, the reward is playing the game.
My Switch 2 was showing around 81% when set to charge to 90%. I just booted into recovery mode and it immediately jumped to 89% so hopefully that has fixed it. Thanks for the article.
Ridiculous article. So games shouldn't have features or modes that all gamers can't access with base equipment? What about 120Hz modes or HDR. I get you've always got to find something to complain about but those is really pushing it.
This game is incredible. It's somehow better than 8 which I didn't think would be possible. Gameplay is silky smooth, visuals and audio exceptional, knockout tour is absolutely thrilling, free roam is chill and the P block missions are fun. I can't see how this is not 10/10 unless you're being churlish.
@AllBLK Why is it not a "full" game? How long do games need to last to be "full"? All the evidence so far is that this will be a "robust" experience that will take a few hours to complete.
@AllBLK But it's clearly not a demo. Personally, I have preordered both Welcome Tour and Fast Fusion because they both look great and will provide me with hours of entertainment.
Are we ever going to get an article about this game (that was made by real developers) without complaining it isn't free? Probably not. Either way, I'm looking forward to it and already have it pre-ordered. Roll on Thursday!
@Jedrus_Lilac The app is pretty good for a 5 minute hit of Nintendo news each day. Sure you could get it from a news site Iike this but sometimes it's nice to get it without the cynicism
People actually get offended by stuff like this, even when what is being said has a modicum of truth to it? Or is it just fun to pile on someone who doesn't share the exact same world view as you?
I've been paying Doom on Xbox game pass and it's great fun so glad to see that take number 1. Can switch 2 take every spot on the top 10 when it releases?
That was a good read. It's cool that Civilisation was one of the SNES games that supported the mouse and now we've gone full circle with Civ 7 supporting the Mouse-con on Switch 2.
@Ramouz I actually prefer the Switch UI compared to Xbox and PS5. It's perhaps not as premium feeling as those but I find it easier to see organise and get into my games. Switch 2 UI looks like it will be similar but it will be 4K now so there is that.
I must be lucky, but after 8 years with the switch I've never experienced drift, so I always roll my eyes at articles like this. Apparently it's an issue in PS5 as well but I've been fine there too. Either way, I'm hoping switch 2 puts the issue to bed and we never have to speak about it again. Probably wishful thinking on my part 🤔
Can not wait to play this on Switch 2. I've already finished it on PS5 (over 100 hours) but did not buy the DLC as I was hoping it would come to Switch 2. The extra content is a nice bonus.
I have no an issue with this article being here (a Switch 2 port would be neat). Just want to point out that the constant talk of GTA6 being the saviour of the gaming and the hyperbole around just how massive it is going to be speaks to how immature and fragile the industry is right now and does it no favours.
Great interview. I've always been really impressed with this developer and this game sounds good. Definitely one I will keep an eye on and probably pick up.
@Zeebor15 Fair point about PC gamers having it for free but all PlayStation and Xbox console players have to pay to play online as you probably know. In terms of quality, I've played Splatoon online a lot and rarely had issues, likewise MK8. Smash was a bit hit and miss early on but is generally okay now. I've had similar issues with playing Fortnite and Rocket League on Xbox so I just don't buy the idea that Nintendo has a terrible service compared to others, seems pretty good to me. A lot of it will come down to how fast your speed is in your house. I'll be interested to see how it holds up with GameChat on Switch 2 but from all accounts they seem to have been heavily investing in their online infrastructure over the past few years so fingers crossed.
@Zeebor15 why should it be free when it clearly costs money to run and maintain the infrastructure required for online gaming. Just curious what the argument is for that.
The Switch Pro Controller is my favourite out of the current gen and the new one looks even better - can't wait to feel those smooth sticks! Love the PS5 controller as well but the battery is pathetic unfortunately.
It really is a great service and continues to get better. The price is incredible especially if you get to cut it down with a family pass. Good article but I disagree with wanting a single app, I think it makes a lot more sense to boot in to a separate app per console and get the unique coin sound, they are so cool.
