Re: The First Review For Octopath Traveler 0 Is In

@metaphysician Being able to share with a friend or resell is not a benefit compared to digital? Surely you can see they are better than code in a box for this reason. Full disclosure I buy mostly physical. I haven't got any GKCs yet but have pre-ordered FFVII Remake and RE Generations. I'll play them and then probably sell them once I'm done with them. I do agree that for collectors they aren't as great as a physical cart.

@8bit-Man You do you but can you fill me in on your main gripe with GKCs? Every game under the sun nowadays has a day one patch and multiple updates so even physical game cartridges don't hold the version of the game 99% of players would want to play (unless incomplete, buggy games is their jam). So is it just an objection to having to use hard drive space or the worry of having nothing to play in the event of a nuclear holocaust (and you've accidentally deleted your download of course)? Genuinely curious. I'll also add some games today literally don't fit on the biggest cart, games generally load a bit faster from the hard drive, and GKCs can be resold.

Re: The DK Rap Is Back In Donkey Kong Bananza, But Nobody Told Its Composer

Shigeru Myamoto wasn't credited in Mario Kart World despite being a driving force behind the original concept because, guess what, he had no role in the development of that game. I think that's probably the way to go or else the credits list would be endless. People just use bad faith arguments like this as a stick to beat Nintendo. The same practise takes place in all games and nothing is mentioned.

Re: Talking Point: How Are You Finding Mario Kart's Open World?

The open world is amazing. Beautiful vistas, fun challenges, exploring each circuit to find question mark blocks and peach medallions and an incredible soundtrack. I've enjoyed all of the 100 or so P block missions one fine so far and some have been incredible, shout out to rescuing through the city. I seriously don't get the general apathy to this mode. People keep mentioning burnout and forza (I love both games) but I don't know what they do that this doesn't. This is just a slightly more chill version. I'd suggest the latest episode of the back page podcast for people who are tired of all these bad takes from people who have probably only spent about half an hour in free roam and given up. They give this game and the switch 2 in general a fair shake and don't follow the general consensus who like to complain.

Re: Best Mario Kart Games Of All Time

jetsetradion

I find it very strange to see World at 5. It surely should be 1 or 2. MK8 took Mario Kart to the next level in terms of mechanics, visuals, sound and gameplay depth. World has taken that to another level and added an open world. The games before this are all good but are not in the same league. For me, World is the best but can see why some people may still choose MK8. For now, I feel like some people are criticising World for the things it isn't but in years to come will praise it for this things it is. Or they just have bad taste.

Re: What Review Score Would You Give Mario Kart World?

jetsetradion

I think time will prove this to be one of the best entries in the series, and the lower scores are largely due to it following 8 which was exceptional. It was such a hard game to follow and they've done that with a totally new open world concept that works. 8 is still there and I can go back and play it when I want so I'm glad they took a new approach here that is largely successful. A 9 for me and I can see it becoming a 10 as they add more content.

Re: Random: John Romero Wants Rip And Tear-Proof Joy-Con On Switch 2

I must be lucky, but after 8 years with the switch I've never experienced drift, so I always roll my eyes at articles like this. Apparently it's an issue in PS5 as well but I've been fine there too. Either way, I'm hoping switch 2 puts the issue to bed and we never have to speak about it again. Probably wishful thinking on my part 🤔

Re: Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack Now Boasts 300 Playable Titles

jetsetradion

@Zeebor15 Fair point about PC gamers having it for free but all PlayStation and Xbox console players have to pay to play online as you probably know. In terms of quality, I've played Splatoon online a lot and rarely had issues, likewise MK8. Smash was a bit hit and miss early on but is generally okay now. I've had similar issues with playing Fortnite and Rocket League on Xbox so I just don't buy the idea that Nintendo has a terrible service compared to others, seems pretty good to me. A lot of it will come down to how fast your speed is in your house. I'll be interested to see how it holds up with GameChat on Switch 2 but from all accounts they seem to have been heavily investing in their online infrastructure over the past few years so fingers crossed.
