@Jorogumo but at least ps4 games run on ps5 out of the box with faster load times and some upscaling. That’s all I wanted from switch 2, and I’m not sure that’s happening.
Not sure I’ll ever be interested in donkey. Maybe if it turns out amazing. I’m not all that excited about Mario kart, donkey, a bunch of ports, and things that are already on other systems… I really really wanted to be excited.
So it was already expensive as hell before tariffs? And how did they not plan ahead and expect tariffs? They obviously did since they began manufacturing in Vietnam. It seems more like they expected tariffs, but apparently didn’t expect more or to this degree.
@Iconoclysm You can be as happy about it as you want. I'm not trying to yuck your yum. PS4 stuff worked out of the box, with some enhancements; Switch 1 stuff is not guaranteed to work, really, just to start. They've done super minimal testing, and lots of stuff still has issues. And there don't appear to be any enhancements out of the box without a patch, right? That's what I'm saying, and then you're saying it's the same as everything else when I'm highlighting where it's not the same.
@Iconoclysm I've never paid for any kind of upgrade, but all my PS4 stuff does run natively on PS5 with some enhancements out of the box (like faster loading and upscaling). I was expecting that with Switch 2, but it seems like a patch (free or otherwise) is required; and Switch 1 games aren't run natively, which adds all kinds of complications (thus their huge list about games that are still in the "testing" phase).
@Iconoclysm It's not "exactly" the same at all, though. The Switch 2 does not run Switch 1 games natively. It uses a mix of emulation. If games are patched to run natively on Switch 2, like Zelda, that's different. PS5 Xbox S/X run previous generation games natively, with some automatic enhancements. Switch 2 is not doing that.
I’d say I won’t buy it. But I don’t think I’m gonna buy a switch 2 either. It Somehow managed to avoid doing the two things I wanted (enhanced backward compatibility like ps5 and ps4 pro and Xbox x; some cool new games) and cost more doing it.
@480frames-please for me, I never really expected it to be a powerful system; it’ll be outclassed quickly by new consoles or handhelds. I just expected it to natively run switch 1 games with some enhancements, and I expected some compelling new games. Got neither, plus it’s expensive. I’m having to wonder if it’s gonna be a flop, due more to price than anything.
@480frames-please yeah I’m really struggling to feel positive about the future one this system. I went from saving up to preorder, to wondering if I might just skip it entirely. It’s feeling more Wii U than switch. But at least Wii U had native backward compatibility.
@Andy_Witmyer I realize that, but I'm not impressed It sounds like it might require the NSO Expansion pack, or at least you get the Zelda upgrades with that. I do hope that other games either get free updates, or just have some automatic improvements (load times, upscaling). They're trying to nickel and dime everything with the Switch 2. They gotta do what they gotta do, but it doesn't mean I'm gonna be enthused about it.
So does it automatically run switch 1 games faster and with less load times? Or is that only if there’s an update (that you potentially have to pay for)?
@larryisaman Interesting. The original seems to be permanently on Game Pass, where as the remaster has been on both Epic Game Store and PS+ but never Game Pass. Maybe it's not actually on there permanently either.
@HXLXIII That sounds like an opinion. My opinion differs. Arceus had the best battle system in the series. If I wanted some goofy action hybrid, I'd play Kingdom Hearts.
Totally agree with all of the above. Even the music was blah. I was expecting an Arceus sequel. They didn’t even keep the battle system. They had a good base with arceus and threw it all out.
I will choose to not play it. The awful trailer and new battle system took my hype from 100% to a very disappointed 0%. Arceus was my favorite pokemon game since red and blue, but Z-A seems nothing like it.
I’m bummed. I was super looking forward to this game til the direct! I thought it was going to be like Arceus. I’m not interested in an action game. I went from hyped to zero interest. If I wanted an action game with menus I’d play kingdom hearts or ff7 remake.
Kinda confusing because the Nintendo switch is mentioned in one breath, CRTs in the next. CRTs were not really a thing when switch came out. And you can’t really connect a switch to one. Maybe that’s not the point.
Believe me, North America has much more work to do than the UK when it comes to trains. Anyway, Amtrak is a federal program, so it’ll soon be shut down by Elon musk I’m sure.
I’m sure amtrak employees will love it when people start trying to bring their CRTs on board 😝
@Bunkerneath if they’re using the Japanese version, it’s not very grindy. The working designs version amped the difficulty some. I still didn’t feel like grinding was really necessary, and I’m guessing the Japanese version is a lot easier.
Maybe the designs will end up similar to the music was in 11, where (sort of as usual) many of the old designs get used, and a few new pop in. I know Yuji Hori has done some of the designs in the past, but I don't know if he still does that.
I suppose the music will again be a mix of old and new, maybe mostly old, and Sugiyama's offspring providing new... I wasn't such a fan of the new music in 11, but I didn't mind hearing the old music!
All just speculation of course... I'm not holding my breath, but I'm hopeful.

Re: Poll: GameStop Offers A Tempting Switch 2 Trade-In Deal, But Is It Really Worth It?
I’ve rarely played mine except docked, since it’s uncomfortable to hold and has terrible battery life. So mine is 8 years old but in great condition.
Probably won’t trade it in tho… If Best Buy had that offer, maybe

Re: Talking Point: How Does Switch 2's Launch Price Compare To Past Nintendo Systems?
What comparisons like this fail to take into account is that buying power hasn’t actually kept up with inflation. In fact it’s gone down.

@TrogdorTheBurninator switch 1 games don’t run natively on switch 2, so I’m not counting on automatic enhancements the way Xbox and ps5 do it.
Re: Upgrade Pack Price For Zelda: BOTW And TOTK Has Been Confirmed
I still think $10 is a slap in the face for an upgrade patch.
Re: Nintendo Confirms US Price For 'Switch 2 Welcome Tour'
@MrGawain when your switch 1 games don’t work maybe you’ll be desperate enough to buy this I’m disappointed with the backward compatibility

@Thomystic maybe, but I think what he’s talking about is making games that appeal to a western audience, as so many Japanese devs attempt to do.

I wish more square-Enix devs would follow this advice.

I liked this game on ps2 but kinda hated the combat. Don’t think it’s overhauled enough for me. But that’s ok. It was a neat game otherwise.

Think I need to know a little more before preordering. Not sure one direct is enough! But if I don’t preorder, I wonder if I’ll have to wait.

I’m bummed the sega cd versions aren’t included, but that would have been a lot of extra time and expense.
Re: Lunar Remastered Collection Talks New Voice Acting And Classic Mode
@EarthboundBenjy you should play the sega cd version if you’re that obsessed with playing how it was originally 😉
