Gawd. I was desperate to play test games as a kid. I didn’t know it actually existed though. Square was my favorite.

@ReaperMelia Just because it’s different doesn’t mean it will necessarily be jarring. Even the game boy color versions held up fairly well, 2 in particular. I think people underestimate the amount of work put in to revitalizing them.

People who make games need money too. Their salaries haven’t gone up enough with inflation either. I’d rather games cost more to buy and less to make, and developers were treated better. We’re in a race to the bottom. Soon, just like with clothing and electronics, the labor on video games will be shipped overseas to China where people cost less. You’re not in favor of that are you? Of course not, my friend.

@Synecdoche yes, I agree, but you’re still listing outliers. Final fantasy 3/6 was up there too. The point people are trying to make is that games haven’t gone up in price much, if at all, especially taking inflation into account. If anything games are too cheap.

@LadyCharlie for the original versions, sure, but they’re remaking the things. It will be considerably less jarring.

@Synecdoche phantasy star was a huge outlier. It was an expensive cart to produce.

@Ruler-Of-All-Evil the original was like $49.99 so it didn’t inflate much.

This version is completely redone, top to bottom. $60 is more than fair.

Hope they’re not making something lame. Mario and Rabbids deserved more attention. Not sure if the Rabbids license disinterested people or what, but the games were fantastic. (But yeah, Rabbids seems like a terrible license)

The N64 Zeldas, and twilight princess, are highly overrated. And breath of the wild and tears of the kingdom are barely Zelda games.

But then I guess that would make a short list.

@BlublacMH I really liked it too--but I even liked the story. People think they like retro games, but maybe they only like their memories of retro games. If Super Mario RPG came out today, people would say it sucks because Mario doesn't have enough hammer upgrades.

@Dom_31 megaton musashi would have done fine if they’d marketed it. They didn’t, at all. They’ve already marketed this more than they did that.

I wish they’d just put it on all platforms. I definitely won’t want to play it on a decade-old switch in 2026.

And there’s the misplaced sea of stars hate. Glowing reviews, but then as soon as it got popular, and all of a sudden everyone’s mad it’s not chrono trigger. If chrono trigger came out today I swear people would complain the writing is bad, the combat is stale, and there isn’t enough character development. “I can’t do the build I want wah!”

@Bunkerneath lost sphere didn’t review particularly glowingly, in contrast to this. Not sure they’re a very apt comparison.

Excited to play this. The price is right, too. I don’t have time for this or bloomtown right now, and they both came out at once! I really want to support them but… my year is full!

@JohnnyMind good point! Entirely possible! Some of the big ones I remember were blaster master and fester’s quest on NES. I wonder if you guys got those ones… I was mostly into RPGs, and I’m not sure they published a ton of those, at least in the US…

@JohnnyMind oddly, I can’t think of a single sunsoft game I had either, across those systems and others, but I might be forgetting. Definitely rented some and played some at friends houses.

I don’t think I ever owned a single sunsoft game on nes, snes, game boy, genesis… I definitely rented and played a few tho.

I hope they keep putting out collections. I’d still like to get this one for the point and click if nothing else.
