Re: Rumour: French Gaming Website Suggests Cuphead Could Come To Switch

ilikeike

This would be awesome! I've been interested in playing Cuphead for a while now, but since I don't own an Xbox and my laptop would probably implode trying to play it, I'd love to play it on Switch. It's a grossly overused phrase, but Cuphead really would be perfect for Switch! Getting other Xbox games on Switch via streaming or other means would also be amazing.

Re: Rumour: Pokémon News Coming Soon According To Leaker

@JaxonH I'm quite aware of King Zell, and I also think he's probably the most reliable leaker out there right now. I recognize that a lot of what this new tweeter leaked has parallels in King Zell's posts. However, Mug went into a lot more specific details than Zell did when it came to the particular games featured in the direct--Mortal Kombat, Assassin's Creed, Dragon Quest, about five minutes on Fire Emblem, etc. Obviously only time will tell if this guy's really legitimate, and King Zell will definitely remain the absolute authority on leaks, but I think Mug is still worth keeping an eye on for now.

Re: Feature: Getting Reacquainted With Zelda: Link's Awakening, An Irreverent And Often Very Silly Classic

I don't know how nostalgia affects the way people remember the game (I wasn't even born when it first released), but I've always viewed it as a silly, cartoonish entry in the series - with darker moments, of course. Perhaps nostalgia makes people remember it as some sort of dark and serious masterwork, but I think that the art of this remake perfectly captures its inherent lightheartedness.

Re: Yacht Club Games Has Delayed Shovel Knight: King Of Cards

@MarinaKat It is a law of the gaming world to post that quote every time there is a delay, yes.

(I agree though, the quote doesn't hold up quite as well in this age of patches, but it's still valuable. Delays are sometimes the best thing for a game, because there are certain games that no amount of patching can salvage after they release--Fallout 76, for instance.)

Re: Reminder: Nintendo Sending Out Survey About Daemon X Machina Demo

@sportvater I just filled out the survey actually. It felt bad filling out so many categories with "disappointing" and "unsatisfying", since I've been interested in this game ever since it was first announced, but it really is a disappointing game that so far doesn't seem to be living up to it's own promises.

Re: Famitsu Report Reveals Japan's Highest-Selling Games And Top-Selling Hardware In 2018

ilikeike

I'm looking forward to seeing how Nintendo continues dominating Japan this year. Switch really picked up steam in the Japanese market in 2018, and seems to have gotten most big Japanese third parties on board by now. All that buildup should come to fruition this year, which looks crazy in terms of both first and third party game. I'll be particularly interested in seeing how Dragon Quest XI S affects software and hardware sales!

Re: Reminder: Nintendo Sending Out Survey About Daemon X Machina Demo

I just got my email. Not sure if I'm going to respond though, given that I didn't even bother finishing the demo. There was something about the whole gameplay structure that just felt so...unsatisfying. I spent more time just wandering around the maps looking for enemies than actually fighting them. While the art style is really cool, nearly everything blends together, to the point where I couldn't tell the difference between enemy fire and the wind's graphic effects. Everything felt like it lacked impact. If it weren't for my health bar rapidly depleting, I'd have no idea that I was being attacked. Then the interface and menus, while looking pretty slick, seemed pretty obtuse and difficult to navigate. It reminded me of my troubles with Xenoblade Chronicles X's menus and mechs. The hangar area also felt pretty pointless, if the only things you can do in it are accept missions and modify your mech. It might as well be replaced with a simple menu. Don't get me wrong, there's lots of good ideas in the game, but there needs to be a big shift in its core structure to really make those good ideas feel full and satisfying.

Re: Rumour: PlatinumGames' Scalebound Is Being Revived As a Nintendo Switch Exclusive

ilikeike

This would be absolutely insane if true. I find it a little hard to believe for the simple reason that it would probably be a strainer on Nintendo and Microsoft's good relationship right now. Nintendo picking up a cancelled Xbox exclusive might be interpreted as a sign of ill-will, which is something I don't think the two companies need right now.

However, if Scalebound does end up on Switch, it would probably be a very different game from the existing footage, since it seems like even the Xbox One was having trouble running it consistently.

Of course, I'd love this to be true - more Nintendo exclusives are never a bad thing, especially when they have as much of a reputation as Scalebound.

Tetris Battle Royale is the greatest thing I never knew I wanted. I look forward to logging an unholy amount of time into it.
Aside from Tetris, I'm torn between continuing my playthrough of Shining Force 2 on Genesis Classics collection (super fun game, btw, even for a strategy newbie like myself) or finishing up the remaining stories in Octopath Traveler. I'm rushing to finish up my RPG backlog now, because between Final Fantasy X, XII, Fire Emblem Three Houses, and Dragon Quest XI S, the rest of the year is going to be absolutely packed with roleplaying goodness.

Re: Random: The Conspiracy Chatter Is Growing: Maybe There Is No Star Fox Grand Prix

ilikeike

On the one hand, given the sheer amount of sources claiming the legitimacy of Star Fox GP's existence I find it hard to deny that the game is real in some form. On the other, Retro's apparently been in internal turmoil for the past few years, so perhaps the project got scrapped and handed to Ubisoft once the Star Fox-Starlink collaboration began. I wouldn't put anything past Nintendo at this point.

I am terrible at Tetris, and I am equally as terrible at understanding the battle royale elements of this new release. That didn't stop me from logging an embarrassing amount of time into it last night.

Move over, Smash Ultimate and NES Online: this is the real reason to subscribe to NSO.

Re: Feature: What We Expect From The February Nintendo Direct

ilikeike

All I need is final confirmation of Dragon Quest XI S releasing in 2019 in the west and announcement that SNES games are coming to Switch online to make this direct a hit for me. Some big surprises would be nice, though - Spyro would probably be my biggest dream announcement.

Re: All Secret SNES Data Has Just Been Removed From Nintendo Switch Online's NES App

ilikeike

Given that the app is called "Nintendo Entertainment System Online" and not something like "Nintendo Classics Online," I'd always figured that additional consoles would get their own app each. It makes sense from a business perspective too; they could potentially include the NES games in all base subscriptions, while locking the other console apps behind additional payments. Obviously that wouldn't make the fans happy, but it would probably help increase Nintendo's profits while still increasing the appeal of their service.

Besides, at the end of the day, I think most fans wouldn't mind paying a few dollars more to get access to actually good classic games.

Re: Activision Blizzard Lays Off Hundreds Despite "Record Year", A Far Cry From Nintendo's Caring Approach

ilikeike

That's the issue with AAA game companies - they're companies, not people. They're focused on their bottom line above all else, and if they have to crush hundreds of passionate employees' dreams to boost their profits, there's no reason to hesitate.

It's just another reason why Nintendo and indies are often the very best the industry has to offer nowadays, they cut out the corporate crap.
