Re: Get A Bunch Of Sega Classics For 25% Off Right Now On Nintendo Switch (Europe)

I absolutely loved the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive Classics collection, and I say this as someone who has zero nostalgia for classic Sega games (aside from classic Sonic). Streets of Rage 2 is an amazing action game, Phantasy Star 4 is truly one of the best 16-bit RPG's, Shining Force 2 is a fantastic strategic experience, and of course the Sonic games are some of the finest platformers ever made (aside from 3D Blast, which is just...ugh). I did notice a little input lag with some of the games, but it was so marginal that it almost never impacted my experience. At its retail price it's already a steal, but on sale it's even more worth it.

@Wavey84 I was simply referring to Sonic's character design, rather than anything regarding the quality of his actual games.

You do bring up some valid points though. Speed definitely feels janky in some of the older games, and the level design didn't seem to fully accommodate it. However, I think that Sonic 2, 3, and Knuckles largely all overcome those difficulties - personal opinion, of course.

Re: Feature: The Best Metroidvania Games On Nintendo Switch

Good choice on your part for not giving these games any definite ranking. They're all great games, and we don't need this comment section to become as vitriolic as some of the other lists on this site.

It's a great list, though I find it strange that Shantae Half-Genie Hero is on the list instead of Pirate's Curse. Half-Genie Hero isn't even much of a Metroidvania, while Pirate's Curse is one of the best representatives of the genre. That said, again, good list. Hollow Knight and Axiom Verge in particular are utterly amazing games

Re: Anniversary: Nintendo Switch Launched Two Years Ago Today

@Mgene15 It seems Nintendo's been hit with delays pretty hard this year. We already know Fire Emblem was meant for Spring, and it wouldn't surprise me if Mario Maker 2 was initially targeted for Spring as well in order to have a fairly packed season. However, at least it seems that Nintendo won't need to rely exclusively on 1 or 2 big new games this year, unlike 2018.

Re: Want Resident Evil On Your Switch? You'd Better Have Deep Pockets

This is just absurd, especially considering that there is essentially no reason for this. Generally the Switch tax comes from the increased expense of using cartridges, but these games are digital only. There is no excuse for this scummy absurdity in pricing for decade-old games. Shame on you, Capcom!

Re: Feature: Things We’d Love To See In Super Mario Maker 2 On Switch

Having world maps would be amazing, as long as they're optional. Give people the choice to make disconnected, independent levels, or to create a set of levels joined together by a common theme and placed on a distinctive world map all finished off with a creative boss level.
It would make the game a true Mario Maker; you're not just making Mario levels, but entire Mario games. I, for one, would absolutely love that.

Re: Gallery: A Complete Breakdown Of The Pokémon Sword And Shield Trailer

It does look really pretty. By Pokemon standards, it definitely looks incredible, certainly the best looking Pokemon game yet. However, by any other standard it looks pretty middle-of-the-road. So many textures are quite low-quality, and the inclusion of random encounters is definitely a step back from Let's Go. Games like Dragon Quest XI and Persona 5 have definitely raised the bar for what a turn-based RPG could (and should) be in 2019. However, I'm still quite interested, and I'm looking forward to seeing more gameplay/trailers. I'm more interested in Sword/Shield than I was in the Let's Go games at the very least!

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo And Microsoft Working Together Isn't As Crazy As You Think

@StevenG Perhaps I should elaborate a bit. I dont mean that consoles shouldn't exist anymore; rather, I mean that they shouldn't be the only means of playing big quality games.

Imagine if Netflix were exclusive to TV. Sure, a big-screen TV is probably the ideal way to experience Netflix programs, but the flexibility to watch Netflix on PC and mobile devices is always appreciated. Likewise, consoles and PC will probably be the best way to play games for some time now, but that doesn't mean that companies shouldn't experiment with streaming to provide as many people as possible with the opportunity to play great games. It seems like technology and current internet infrastructure may not be able to support that to a wide degree, but if anyone can pull it off, I'd say it's Microsoft.

The mere concept of consoles is already obsolete. It made sense in the 90's, when movies were limited to theaters and rentals and tv shows were limited to cable, but in the age of streaming, the idea of entertainment being trapped in arbitrary plastic boxes is simply outdated. Xbox has realized this for a while now, and it seems that they understand that they have more to gain by putting their games on as many platforms as possible than by sticking to their own consoles.

Re: Feature: Meet Doug Bowser, The Man Behind The Meme

He's got a big act to follow, but Mr. Bowser has plenty of experience and I have no doubt that he will continue to steer Nintendo in the right direction. He comes with prepackaged meme potential too, which already gives him a head start.

Thanks for the article Gavin, it was an enjoyable and informative read as always!
