Scratch the 9th of April release date from your calendars, as Yacht Club Games has revealed the next major update for Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove – comprised of Shovel Knight: King of Cards and Shovel Knight Showdown – has been delayed. This applies to the digital update, the physical editions and even extends to the amiibo three-pack.
In a post on its official website, Yacht Club Games said it estimated the delay would be several months, at most. The aim is to have the new games on the card for the upcoming physical launch and to ensure everything is released at once. This will require a little more time, as a result. A new release date will be announced when the developer is absolutely sure the game is ready to go.
As this is not being classed as a major delay, social media and website updates about King of Cards and Showdown will continue to be shared. Recently, the team has been busy polishing up the course design in King of Cards and fleshing out the experience in Showdown with a story mode. The developer has also allocated time to testing and localising the game in nine different languages.
How do you feel about this delay? Will you be playing King of Cards and Showdown when they are finally released? Tell us in the comments.

They can have as long as they need to get it right. Much better than rushing it to meet a deadline.
Man I've had those amiibo pre ordered for over a year lol
Disappointing but good if it means a more polished game. The wait will surely be worth it!
@BenAV I agree, it’s slightly annoying now, but in the long run I’d much rather have a more polished game and I’d ESPECIALLY rather have all the content on the cartridge than a dlc download. In the meantime I’ve got plenty of other games to get around to.
Dang, disappointing but understandable. Luckily Hollow Knight's sequel comes out this year so that makes up for it a bit
Worth the wait. Yacht Club Games has more than earned the community's respect and trust.
SEVERAL months?!?
reprehensible and unforgivable.
I just canceled my pre-order of the physical edition.
These guys have earned my respect and money several times over, if they need more time to get the final expansions out then I'm fine with that.
Love the game, but these guys really take a long time to make a 16bit 2D platformer.
That is simply crazy. At least crazy to know I first played King of Cards in 2017 and it still isn't released. They must really really really REALLY want to get this all right.
I am surprised they didn't just do what everyone does these days and release the game unfinished only to slowly finish it with patches.
Well at least it gives me more time to play the other expansions as I’ve only played the original game thus far
Hopefully they'll use some of that time to add an exclusive boss to the switch version like the other consoles got. Maybe metaknight
As others have said, I'd rather they take their time to make it right than rush to meet a deadline. YCG deserves a lot of respect.
Ridiculous. I had the amiibo pre-ordered for years now... I knew this was gonna happen in the last delay and people jumped on that. I'm not sure these amiibo will ever be released.
Perhaps I am reading too much into this, but I can't help but wonder if Nintendo's public apology for Metroid's delay is trickling down to the industry and others are following their lead. Normally, it would be "reports - Shovel Knight delayed - sources close to the developer are reporting" ...and then gamers would be left guessing. I like this new side of the gaming industry. Just tell us what's going on and we will likely be fine with it.
"A delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad."
My wallet thanks them.
@WaveBoy Shovel Knight released in 2014.
Makes me sad by we all have enough games to be patient. Look forward to my three pack amiibo and this expansion.
Much better than a physical release and then a Day 1 update/patch...
As disappointed as I am right now, I'm ok with this. I've got a lot of games on the go right now I need to finish before I get more...haha like that will ever happen.
Nooooooo...but I'm happy it'll come out one day.
For god’s sake- what the hell?
It'll give me time to finish the ridiculous amount of game that are coming out and I'm getting. As long as it's a guaranteed quality product I'm happy.
This is getting insane, like what are they even doing? It shouldn't take this long to make an expansion, especially one for a 16-bit platformer where most assets are being reused in some capacity anyway and prototypes were shown in 2017.
This ruined my day. I had that day marked and ready to go. My April was set between this and darksiders. Oh well it doesn't seem like a big delay.
Edit: on 2nd thought I'm kinda confused how it's been delayed this long. They're re-using most of the original game like the other dlc I assume. Disappointed to say the least.
Well if this means I get a better game, Sure go for it!
Im glad they inform us these days instead leaving us in the dark
I'm hope that this doesn't delay the release of their 16-bit style game, Trowel Warrior.
The selfish part of me wonders why they can't just release the amiibo now. At this rate, it'll be two years since I pre-ordered the three-pack. I don't even wait on games for that long!
Business-wise, it's understandable that they'd likely want to release everything at the same time. But man...
I’m not even slightly upset about this, it is a free update after all. But bloody hell, it’s five years since it’s original release of Shovel Knight. I wonder how long it will take them when they finally start making something new.
@ilikeike
Well spoken! Shovel knight is so good and it's no Biggie to wait a few more months for a nice neat complete physical edition! There's plenty more to be enjoying in the interim. I do hope the amiibo rubbish doesn't lock out too much fun stuff without spending an extra however much.
@WaveBoy right as usual. The problem is seemingly they promised too much (free) DLC at the time they financed the game and now they are stuck with it forever. The amiibo for shovel Knight is btw amazing , I love it... But the idea to release even more amiibo (3!!) was way too ambitious and it looks like they can't deliver .
We should be thankful that they have the possibility to put the quality of the game as the highest priority and not just release it rushed to meet the publishers shareholders (puke) expectations! I'm looking forward to play King of cards when the time is right
And amazon UK has the physical release date as 31 December 2019 for £40, which for a five year old game is a bit steep, but will still hold on to the hope for it at sometime this year, not that it will help my backlog with the Final Fantasy games coming out, looks like a lot of things will be pushed back for me.
I loved getting punished and having my digital copies delayed because people who live in the past and like physical copies would moan if it didn't all release on the same day
@Spudtendo this year? Source?
I remember when they originally announced that all the DLC would come free to early adopters of the game. As an owner of Shovel Knight for Nintendo 3DS, I’m really hoping that King of Cards and Showdown will release on the platform, as according to the original estimate back in I believe 2014.
Delays are so hot right now.
I lose track, will all the DLC also be releasing for the older console versions? I got the core version on Wii U and would rather have all the content on there than double dip
While I appreciate their dedication to doing it right, I think this has dragged on for a bit too long now. It's been what, two years since they said this is coming? I fear that the final product isn't going to live up to the hype with all these delays; it had better be worth the wait.

@Quinnsdaddy11 I’ll remember that next time I get a physical copy to preserve the extremely fragile media form of video games.
[Insert some nasty words here.]
Whatever, I have the Ultimate game to keep me busy for months to come.
@gaga64
It will at least come to the 3ds, but will not include the battle/showdown game. I think the latter is the main reason this gets such a delay btw.
I'm assuming the wiiu will get it's own version as well?
@KingdomHeartsFan
Me too, last game I'll download for that system.
I wish people could truly see the amount of work that goes into game development. It's ok to be disappointed, but please try to consider that game development is a time/money/energy consuming process. Be glad that yacht club cares enough to give you a quality product. Yacht has done more than enough to build trust with their consumers, so they can atleast have some patience on our part.
SN: This doesn’t represent everyone
Delayed games may eventually be good. Rushed games will forever be flawed.
Also yeah, I've had those amiibo on preorder since they were first announced. Oh well, I can wait a few more months.
@ArmenianJedi13 King of Cards will be added to 3DS and Vita too. Showdown will not.
I'll get over it as I have many other things to play, but KoC was supposed to have released originally more than a year ago. Not complaining! Polish all you need to, Yacht Club, but I'd like my personal 3DS "swansong" to come ONE of these days grumble... grumble...
I have no qualms with waiting for quality.
Again? It doesn't matter though. A good game that takes forever is better than a bad rushed game.
I'm disappointed, but it's better for them to work longer to make it great than for them to rush it to meet the release date.

They can take however long they need to. I’ve got more than enough games keeping me occupied, a massive backlog, and several other games coming out this year that I’m interested in.
I'm okay with this. As long as it still comes out and is as good as its predecessors, I'm not going to rush my life away waiting for its release and I'll play it whenever it's ready. My backlog is big enough as it is.
Super disappointing. This is one of the only games I'm looking forward to this year. But if the games not ready, it's not ready...
@MarinaKat It is a law of the gaming world to post that quote every time there is a delay, yes.
(I agree though, the quote doesn't hold up quite as well in this age of patches, but it's still valuable. Delays are sometimes the best thing for a game, because there are certain games that no amount of patching can salvage after they release--Fallout 76, for instance.)
I'm just curious what Yacht Club has been busy with all this time.
@ArmenianJedi13 Showdown is only coming to the console versions of Treasure Trove. It won't come to either the 3DS or the PS Vita, but King of Cards is still coming to all platforms
Sheesh. As much as I have enjoyed the SK dlc, I really wish they'd actually get cracking on an actual honest-to-god sequel.
Epic trolololo...king of cards has been delayed for so many times. It also means we have to wait even longer for a proper Shovel knight sequel, if that ever happens. Well, as long as I can get King of cards for free on my Shovel knight Wii u version, and it is any good...
