Re: Guide: How To Check IVs And Catch Pokémon With Flawless IVs In Pokémon: Let's Go On Nintendo Switch

hirokun

@KingdomHeartsFan My first 2 abras were adamant in Let's GO, and they are annoying as hell to sneak up on. Finally got one that was SpAtk+/Def- and called it good enough for the play through.

Nature and IVs kind of ruin the fun of just playing the game's story I think. However they add more depth to competitive play for sure. I'm wondering if these games will become pokemon bank compatible at some point or not. Seems like a not so great idea, but with the whole Meltan thing, I'm guessing they won't wait for Gen 8 games to let us upload meltan to the bank. Having a living dex, I'm excited for the next generation, and meltan was a nice surprise.

In terms of competitive play, I actually like the restricted modes like "gen 1" or "gen 2" fights where you only use pokemon from those game titles. I think open formats are more boring and easy to predict. So I could see a healthy niche competitive scene pop up for these games at least for a little while.

Re: Video: Nintendo's Japanese Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Commercials Make The Game Look Incredible

hirokun

@Likethepear It is a pretty casual and friendly game. All the characters have basically the same move set. Your up+B for example is always something that helps you jump further than the basic double jump. Every person's A is essentially a punch. There are no insane button combos in smash. So it allows you to try out all the characters and still have a basic idea of how they play. Its easy to get into and fun as hell with 4 people.

These commercials are honestly pretty middling I must say. But they certainly show off a fair few new characters.

Re: Attention All Pokémon Let's Go Poké Ball Plus Owners: For The Love Of God, Don't Ever Delete Your Save

hirokun

People acting like hacking isn't easy and rampant in pokemon anyhow. Just gen 100 mews the way you want or get someone else to do it. Pokemon company allows cheating in their tournaments, its like the black markets in North Korea. Everyone knows its happening, but if you stop it, then everything collapses.

If you bought a $50 accessory just for some data I can only shake my head in disappointment. At least I have the honesty to say I let my inner child take grip and find the idea of throwing the pokeball immensely satisfying, dumb as that sounds to most crusty jaded gamers.

Look if that guy is so upset I'll literally just give him my Mew. I don't need it, its just been a nice little extra treat.

Now to be fair, it would have been nicer if you could redo it to get one with the nature you want or they should have just nature locked the mew to something neutral like the ashhat pikachus are.

Re: Nintendo Is Currently Recruiting For A New 3D Legend Of Zelda Game

hirokun

I still maintain they will make traditional top down zelda games and that is likely what this is. Since the Switch has to sort of be the combo home and portable system now, they can't do 'big game on home console once per generation'. They always did that and had a gameboy game to go along with it, and even spin offs like 4-swords. I'm pretty sure the A-team that did BoTW started working on a follow up as soon as the game launched. This could be adding new people into the mix, but I can forsee looking for people to work on expanding the handheld friendly zelda game. Of my favorites were the DS titles for just how inventive and fresh they were(and still are the most unique titles in the series to date IMO). Since the Switch is kind of a different beast I imagine they are looking for unique new perspectives for the new title that would be the continuation of the handheld style zelda game. So yes, I'm saying that toon link will be that style of game and be solidified there even more from when he made the jump there in minish cap and the DS games stylistically.

Re: Square Enix Reports $33 Million Loss After New Studio Shifts Focus

hirokun

maybe they wouldn't be hemorrhaging money if their project lead for FF7 wasn't so lousy, and if they had actually tried to develop kingdom hearts 3 to release sooner. I will admit though, I am on the record as believing they want to save KH3 for a playstation 5 exclusive launch title, and that there is likely a lot of money for them in that.

Honestly though, the reason they lost money is just bad management. They have 2 huge titles in the works, and that costs a butt load of money, so it makes sense that they would see losses or marginal profits. You can't expect a new "AA" level IP from their B team in octopath to really carry them despite how well it was received.

Re: Video: Here's How The Elite Four Stack Up In Pokémon: Let's Go

hirokun

@RupeeClock agreed. I hope for the mainline games they leave a lot for us to discover. I mean honestly these games are just remakes of the first gen games so not really much to reveal in the first place. I do think all features should be shown off, but showing us all the cool locations, characters and new pokemon ruins the fun.

Re: Nintendo Treehouse: Live To Showcase Smash, Pokémon, Yoshi's Crafted World And Diablo After Direct

hirokun

I am only ever interested in watching this if there is nothing really known yet, like when pokemon lets go and smash were still pretty new and they did gameplay on them at E3(I think) I watched it a bit and that was nice. But now? I don't see the point. Also if the Japanese Nintendo staff are there talking its fun to listen as well a bit, but otherwise someone usually picks out the info and posts online or makes a condensed video somewhere.

Re: Capcom's Yearly Operating Income Up 110%, Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate "Enjoyed Robust Sales"

hirokun

Capcom could still be so much more successful. They are just so fearful of doing things people want. They get dragged screaming to bring Phoenix Wright games to the West. They are afraid to port any games from any console to another console or PC. They leave their IPs sitting on shelves to rot. Even Monster Hunter, their precious child at the moment is not given the level of respect it should be from Capcom. After being a hit on the 3DS you'd think they would support the switch more, but strangely they are again dragging their feet overall. It is like they don't think they can make money with their games or something.

That number could have been higher, but they are too scared to expand their company and be a bigger name in gaming.

Re: Zelda-Inspired Hazelnut Bastille Wants To Bring SNES Magic To Switch, Kickstarter Coming Soon

hirokun

Wow that actually looks amazing. It seems they already have it all figured out. While I've taken a more skeptical stance on crowd funding for anything non-music, If the campaign shows me enough of this game completed, and there is any benefit to backing early, I might hop on board. I really like adventure games, there aren't enough of them, and heaven knows nintendo takes 100 years to make zelda games.

Re: Monolith Soft Director Would "Love" Xenoblade Chronicles X On Switch, Money Stands In The Way

hirokun

I don't see why money would be an issue. The game would sell just fine. The language seems to indicate they would do the port job themselves...which makes no sense. Work on your secret new game, and contract out the port to someone else. I see no reason this game wouldn't be a good selling game. Sales on their games will be good now that people actually know who monolift are considering they have a character in smash bros. Though if for ANY reason it meant slower development of new game I'd be fine holding off.

Re: The Pokémon Let's Go Series Could Progress To Johto If Players Enjoy Lets Go Pikachu And Eevee

hirokun

Hmm curious idea, but I'd try not to do it. This is a good way to lure pokemon GO players into the core games. If you keep making this series, then it will drive sales away from the core games in the long run. I think leaving it at just this one is the best move to increase sales for future core games.

I personally am not interested in anymore outside just this one either. I'm a big pokemon fan, but I don't care about this as a series, more like a diversion and a way to connect with people who play GO. Making more games just isolates them even more and that isn't good. Just drive them to play the gen 8 games, if you don't, so much money will left on the table if you self-cannibalize sales.

Re: Photorealistic Graphics Didn't Match Welcoming Nature Of Pokémon Let's Go Pikachu And Eevee

hirokun

photorealistic pokemon are truly horrifying conceptually. There is one guy who has done a stellar job of it drawing many from Diglett to Steelix. Many are actually rather frightening nightmare fuel.

This game is a tactically good move to draw in the GO players. I still won't understand the people who think it is anything more than that. I for one could use an easy casual game every so often.

Re: Surprise! A Special Version Of The Legend Of Zelda Has Appeared In The Switch's NES Library

hirokun

I can appreciate Nintendo adding easy modes in some of their games like with DCK and Super Mario. But you should be able to choose the normal game too, is that not already part of the deal? I'm assuming it is. Either way, it makes you wonder if they might explore making new maps for older sprite based games. People would kill for a new map/world/story for Link to the Past.

Re: Soapbox: Nintendo's Maddening Stance On Retro Gaming Is Driving Me To Piracy

hirokun

Honestly though, retro game file sharing will continue. All Nintendo did was drive it off of dedicated sites that could profit from this. filesharing gives no one any money. People who go far enough are like this author. People who will find things like this usually do it to get something old/obscure or new/unreleased in their region. If it is old we know the money won't go to the company, so just get it online. If it is new or unavailable, we are such super fans of that thing that we want it NOW and will buy the proper version later should it come.

That is just the thing, we will support official means. Until then nothing can stop this.

Also let us not pretend like the VC was good. After years they finally put SNES games on the N3DS VC and still won't do it for GBA. Meanwhile the WiiU got pokemon snap, a beloved game, in the console's twilight moment. They've never put enough effort in, and this new system is just the same. If they were really gung ho about this whole thing they'd release the top 50 grossing games from each console in the past up to Wii as VC titles(minus any remakes on 3DS, WiiU or Switch). The reason is honestly that these games wouldn't sell enough to make it worth the development time for many titles. How many people ACTUALLY want to pay any amount of money for a mario 3 emulation? It just isn't good enough.

I suspect they will expand beyond the NES in time for the subscription, but don't expect them to go fast. Financially this is the safest move, but not the one that will make a splash. Headlines don't always equate money.

In the meantime, just fileshare all you want, Nintendo doesn't actually care that much about it until money is involved or their IP is being used. Those game ROMS and EMUs still exist, it isn't like the sky is falling.

Re: Random: The Pokémon Company Has Created An Eevee Dance And It's Absolutely Bonkers

hirokun

@I_Am_A_Geek I know right? I thought surely it would be like 2 minutes of a dance that really just repeats moves in 30 second loops, and the last bit would be advertising for the game...nope. 3 and a half minutes of pure dance and it had not a whole lot of repetition. This was actually insane. I thought it might be something cute and easy for kids to do. But no, you're going to have to be a good dancer to pull this off. I forsee tons of adults submitting for this and no kids, seems messed up.
