Nintendo has done a tremendous job advertising Super Smash Bros. Ultimate prior to the game's release next month. There have been special Direct presentations and even multiple events around the globe where the general public has been able to try out the game before launch. With the majority of information about the title now out in the wild - in more ways than one - the anticipation for what is expected to be the biggest Switch release of the year is at an all-time high.
To continue building excitement for what is now the best pre-selling Smash and Switch game, Nintendo has released new Japanese commercials. The one above makes impressive use of the Animal Crossing fighters and stage, while the ones below channel Splatoon and Street Fighter. Of course, if you're doing your best to avoid spoilers, it would be best to click away.
Can you contain your excitement for Ultimate any longer? Are you counting down the days? Tell us below.

Well done Nintendo!
I have only played it on the N64 and didn't like much, now, I'm going to give it a a go again and hopefully I'll like it.
It seems that a lot of improvements have been made since them.
Why is Mario smashing people into the atmosphere in every ad?
Those are pretty good ads indeed!
I love the street fighter ad.
Ryu and ken look amazing
This is going to be my GOTY. I'm counting the days!
@tourjeff
You will, as the series has been great since Melee! The N64 original, not so much.
@Medic_alert You forgot Daemon X Machina. Also Fire Emblem.
And both of those are supposed to be early 2019
@Roam85 I have my doubts early 2019 means the winter months. Late spring for one of them at least, and summer for the other.
Not the ads make the game look incredible, it's rather the opposite: the game makes the ads look incredible.
@Medic_alert Then you’ve got 3rd party exclusives like Travis Strikes Again, Town, Daemon X Machina, Ninjala, Yokai Watch and maybe Shin Megami Tensei. Not sure how good any of them will be, but it definitely won’t hurt to have them
Meanwhile the game is leaked & available for pirate players, beware of more leaks. Will try soon on my homebrewed Switch, it'll justify my tempt for the preordered cartridge to come in the middle of December.
The amount of content in this game looks truly incredible - a video game fun fest unlike anything else!
I imagine it was all hands on deck making such a huge game so quickly, and probably at least partially to blame for Nintendo's lack of first party releases this year. But the big payoff is nearly here, and Sakurai-san and crew can finally get the accolades and R&R they deserve (well, after the DLC I guess).
Am I the only one who dun really care abt this game?
@kokjopan I'll give you the attention you want.
opens script "Then why are you here?"
Now where's the Animal Crossing game for Switch that looks like this?
Also, I like the look of modern Street Fighter as seen here in Smash more than it is in the actual latest 3D Street Fighter games.
Even though I am not good with this game anymore, I can't wait to get it!
Excited for this game. I'm probably going to buy it and leave it wrapped under a tree until Christmas though. That will at least give me time to catch up on my other games, including collecting all the trophies and completing all the challenges in Smash 4.
Mario what’s wrong with you?! First you’re so freaking mad in Piranha Plant’s trailer, now you’re invading everyone’s worlds and slapping the mess out of them while they’re minding their own business. 😂
The hype is real.
These commercials progressively got better. Cannot wait for this game
Smash and Civ are my Christmas gifts to myself
These adverts are wonderfully fun.
How cool of a mechanic would that be if you could smash a player from one stage to another with different fighters already in mid battle.
Keep it to 4 characters per stage and maximum of 4 stages to smash into and things would be so crazy.
@HatosBlack thnx for the unwanted attention. I am here cuz i wanted to.
@kokjopan Some of my friends don't want the game because they are not an fan of the genre or they got sick of Smash Bros.
Sadly I know a lot of hardcore Melee fans do not want this game. They been saying every Smash games since Melee went downhill.
So no, you are not the only one feel this way.
I was excited when Smash Bros was getting released on 3DS, which I love that game . But Smash Bros Ultimate has me counting the days till release this game looks phenomenal to say the least. I have avoided any major spoilers I've only watched two of the commercials I did not watch any of the directs all the way through only the first 5 minutes of two of them and none of the YouTube videos I dont want to take away from any of the surprises ., Now to get back to my counting the days till release, good day all and happy gaming.
@kokjopan No I never got into it either.
Would love to get hyped about it but it just doesn't interest me. Metroid Prime 4 on the other hand...
already pre-ordered MP4 loooonnnng ago on Amazon
Wow genius! I like these.
also the street fighter one where mario popped up lol. Awesome, cant wait!
@oji Who cares about leaks, homebrews, hackers , thieves, illegals, immigrants, civilians, straights and gays? Just enjoy the game on your Nintendo Switch when it comes out.
Headline suggests it didn't already look incredible.
I feel like the biggest barrier Smash had to newcomers is the speed.
Trailers using closeup animations (that you don't get when playing the game) look great, but at full speed all the fun of the animations is kinda lost in the frenetic action.
Will Smash Ultimate allow you to adjust the speed the game runs at and slow it down to soak up the wonderful animation?
These are fantastic I love the smashing into other series, I prefer them to the numbered entry’s we have on YouTube
Now put it on in UK 100 times a day starting from now!!!
It's a great game, but unlocking new fighters takes forever. World of light does make it pretty fun, though.
@Medic_alert
Not only is that an awesome list of exclusives, it doesn’t even cover the unannounced games, the indies, the rereleases, the third party games. I think that 2019 is going to be Switch’s peak year!
I’ve never played Smash Bros. I wonder if it’s one of those games that are only for people who have played it for years. I’m tempted to get it but I’m going to need lots of tutorials. It looks cool but I know nothing.
Commercials I would willing watch.
@Likethepear It is a pretty casual and friendly game. All the characters have basically the same move set. Your up+B for example is always something that helps you jump further than the basic double jump. Every person's A is essentially a punch. There are no insane button combos in smash. So it allows you to try out all the characters and still have a basic idea of how they play. Its easy to get into and fun as hell with 4 people.
These commercials are honestly pretty middling I must say. But they certainly show off a fair few new characters.
@Likethepear If you can play Kirby (Or maybe any type of platformer), you can get a pretty decent grasp on how to play this game. You will understand how to play rather quickly compared to any other fighting game and its not like you need to play it like a serious fighting game since Smash is a party game at heart, items add a very Mario Kart feel to the game.
Mario, don’t start nothin’, won’t be nothin’.
@Likethepear: Smash is very fun. Granted, everyone has different tastes. It's fun with friends; especially local multiplayer, since you don't have to worry about your internet messing up your local multiplayer with friends.
That Animal Crossing commercial... sorry, you're just not topping the classic.

So much craziness!

Agree, I'm not a Smash fan either. For some reason I liked the N64 original though. I bought the Wii U Smash but it did nothing for me. The controls felt slippery and it didn't feel like my punches really connected. My attacks felt really unsatisfying.
I'm happy for all the fans though, and pleased with the hype that Niintendo is building. These commercials are fantastic 👍
This is one of those games you actually feel proud and [more than] confident to preorder
