Re: Nintendo Confirms Metroid Prime 4 Will Skip E3 2018

hirokun

Nintendo and Sony should take a page out of each other's books. Sony gave us a tease of Spiderman for the THIRD YEAR IN A ROW. They need to have an E3 employee exchange program. But I'm not really miffed about anything any of the big 3 did this year, just overall rather modest across the board in general, not that there weren't big things shown(there were), but they all played things way safer than people expected.

Re: Limited Run Games Announces Eight New Physical Game Releases For Switch

hirokun

Wow they managed to snag rights to publish golf story! I thought surely some bigger publisher would try to cash in on that easy money, but I guess no one cared enough so LRG just waltzed in. Easy money. I'm really not sure why Cosmic Star Heroines for switch didn't release with the versions on PS4 and Vita, what a bizarre move, but I'm happy. Zeboyd makes fun games.

Re: Here's How The Toys-To-Life Magic Of Starlink: Battle For Atlas Works

hirokun

you can just get everything digitally? Alright, this game has a chance to stand on its own merits. I was worried that even if it was an amazing game, the figures would stunt it's ability to succeed financially as early adoption would be hard. As we see with amiibo too, in many games you literally can't access certain content because the amiibo you want is like $50 on ebay(they really need to make amiibo cards for everything like they said they would).

As with most things, I still will wait to see how the game is before sinking money into it, but I like space battles and hope this does it well.

Re: Hackers Have Already Found A Way To Maximise Items And PM Tickets In Pokémon Quest

hirokun

This could be a good way to brute force getting everything in the game so that we can better understand the underlying mechanics and probabilities of the game. The game is surprisingly opaque about gameplay. Want to know how to attract a certain pokemon? Impossible to know the exact recipe(s) to do so. Even once you stumble on a recipe, you can't see exactly how to recreate it, so its useless. You can't even see what type a pokemon is. There are just little colored bars on their stat page which is entirely unhelpful if you don't know them(I do, but its bad for those who don't). Could also do some good testing on the liklihood of different types of bingo bonuses on pokemon to show up and their possibility to change when evolving etc. Testing for move training could be really helpful, and just generally zeroing in on how things work. Short of a data mine, this is the next best thing.

Re: Motion Controls Will Be Compulsory To Catch Pokémon In Let's Go Pikachu And Eevee

hirokun

I keep saying it, but this game is really made for the non-videogame playing masses/pokemon GO fans. This isn't going to be for those people who stuck with pokemon over the years and want a no nonesense classic pokemon experience. They are overcharging for this game, making it silly and we all know it, but it isn't for us. I'm really not all that upset honestly. Should it be a $30 game? Yes, but the casual market isn't discerning about that kind of thing or forced motion controls or the whole only kanto thing. This game will be bare bones and light on gameplay.

I'm just looking forward to this money and pokemon Quest money and the time investment making Generation 8 games very good.

Re: Guide: All The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild amiibo Unlocks

hirokun

As someone who bought all these amiibo MSRP I'm shocked to see the prices on some of them. I don't often suggest this, but shoot, if they aren't making enough, go ahead and buy those 3rd party NFC chips people load with the data for and put inside cards so you can buy them cheap and get the fun stuff they give you in games....Just wow. $70+ for a lot of them, and most are $30 minimum....lord almighty.

Re: Ubisoft CEO Believes The Next Generation Of Consoles Will Be The Last

hirokun

Its city people in 1st world countries that spout BS like this. "all of us?" Even in large swathes of the United States where you measure your land ownership by the acre and not the square foot, there is either dial up or maybe satellite. Broadband? ha! Cable and fiber are just dreams for many still. And that's in a first world country. Think about the rest of the world. The entirety of central and south america including Mexico still have a long way to go in terms of internet infrastructure and are still many of them developing markets for videogames. One of these days Nintendo will crack into China, and instantly sell at least twice as many of whatever console it is that they are making at that time. What about if/when the DPRK's political system is overhauled, or reintegrated with SK again? That could see in a generation a whole new market of people getting into the market who just need and want a game console too.

This man smacks of silver spoon mentality and should not be part of a company that is so vast and multi-national. He thinks the world revolves around his life style and that is embarrassing really. What a chungus.

Re: Limited Run Games Will Hold Its Very Own E3 Press Conference On 11th June

hirokun

Interesting news. I hope it goes well. Flexible and small company that makes mistakes but has a good idea and does it right. Just keep improving it. I still think the whole Night Trap thing is a let down, a slot for a more deserving game is lost to that meme of a game that no one will actually play for enjoyment, but for youtube and twitch and then quickly extinguish and sit unplayed on shelves for eternity.

Still, I'm looking forward to PixelJunk Monsters. I see they publish a zeboyd game, and I love Breath of Death and Cthulhu saves the world, so maybe one day that will all come to switch.

I'll be interested to see what announcement(s) are important enough to call for an E3 conference of their own. My only guess is opening new production and HQ in Europe somewhere to expand the business, and then of course at least 1 smash indie title like golf story, celeste, heck its a longshot but maybe even undertale.

I don't mean to sound harsh, but if its nothing like that, then I won't see the point, I'm one of those salty people who sees E3 as a place for used car sales people to get on stage and blather on about nothing anyone cares about or wants and how it will be great, and then half the things they say end up being lies or let downs.

Re: Digital Foundry Takes Issue With Hyrule Warriors' Portable Performance On Switch

hirokun

DF likes to take the piss and has made flat out erroneous statements in the past. I'm not one to believe them on the first pass until someone else confirms or debunks their findings. That being said, if true, I would hope for those who like the game to get a patch to optimize the game a bit and take handheld down to 720p. I think an option in this regard for for docked mode(1080p 900p and 720p) at minimum would be a nice change of pace for switch games that are more demanding, but I doubt console games will ever have real performance options.

Re: Pokémon Let's Go Pikachu and Eevee Launch Shipments Will Be Larger Than Any Switch Game To Date

hirokun

when we say "Super Mario Odyssey launched with 350,000 copies" does that mean further shipments of the game have been sent out since then? It seems like 350k isn't actually much and I'm confused. I remember the launch of the switch that the attach rate of Zelda was over %90 and something like %75+ in Japan. If around 2-3 million units sold on launch day, then how did Zelda not exceed what this pokemon game is hitting shelves with, and what is the attach rate with Mario that it could be so much lower than Zelda if they didn't ship out more copies of Mario later on.

Edit: Didn't realize initially this was talking about France only. That makes way more sense. Alright thanks guys.

Re: Never-Before-Seen Pokémon Designs Show How Gold And Silver Could Have Been Very Different

hirokun

This is super cool. I wish they had been able to include more in the first two games. Sadly hardware limitations and all as well as time and budget reduced things. But many of these old designs seem like they could have done well. Baby pokemon were still a mistake IMO. So I am glad no more made it in besides the few that did, they serve no function but to annoy you as they can't be bred and have bad move sets and stats and doesn't further the game in any meaningful way.

I hope to see gen 8 do more to expand on older pokemon from generation 1-4 in general. Alolan forms were a great way to make old pokemon new, interesting and viable and I hope they keep that trend up, while also adding evolutions like this scrapped farfetch'd evolution. Such neat stuff.

Re: Talking Point: What Do You Make Of The Three Big Pokémon Games Coming To Nintendo Switch?

hirokun

Yeah pokemon Let's go is NOT for pokemon fans and players, its for the hyper casual and pokemon Go players since niantic is so inept at building anything gamefreak has to step in and clean up their dumpster fire. This is fine, but it is not made for me. It is extremely basic overall but I am not surprised that this is the game they revealed. I had a sneaking suspicion that they couldn't possibly release the next pokemon main title game in 2018 on a new console. But this? This makes sense. Recycle the generation 6 game engine, recycle and visually upgrade Kanto, slap on the pokemon GO capture gimmick and you have yourselves a side game that will be probably as beloved as pokemon snap was for the original pokemon players.

I'll have to wait and see more of how the game works, but I am hoping that Gen 8 pokemon will be awesome and that the money these two spin offs make will allow for a really solid mainline game come 2019. When that happens....well you thought this announcement was bananas?

I'm overall not surprised, I thought no way they could bring a new pokemon so close after ultra sun/ultra moon and I was right, but I am always happy when they make really cool spin off games. Pokemon Ranger, Pokemon Snap, Pokemon XD Gale of Darkness and Pokemon Mystery Dungeon were all great titles.

Keep it up Pokemon.

Re: Legendary Shiny Pokémon Zygarde Is Coming To Sun/Moon And Ultra For Free This June

hirokun

Please gamefreak, just....just let this be a internet mystery gift globally...what a bunch of dinguses. I wonder how much gamestop/EB are paying them.

Anyhow, I don't mind these events so long as you can obtain them normally in game. What I do mind is if you can't get them in game normally ever(looking at you volcanion, magearna and every gen 4/5 mythic). Ultra space was a great way in USUM to give people access to catching legendaries, but I wish it encompassed ALL of them plus all mythics too. I need a lot of things to complete the pokedex.

Re: Soapbox: Why A Nintendo 64 Classic Edition Might Not Be Such A Good Idea

hirokun

If it has mariokart, zelda OOT and mario 64, none of these well thought out and interesting points won't matter. Normies will swarm for it just like the NES and SNES classics. Also Mario 64 got a DS remake, which even on the DS had improved graphics over the original. The only other game I can think that would really seal the deal for the normies is golden eye. I Banjo Kazooie would just be icing on the cake for most at that point. Any other memorable titles would only really be there for the more hardcore videogame fan, and that isn't really the selling audience of these things.

As much as I think an N64 classic rom machine would be kind of pointless, give it a core of 3 or 4 good games and it will be a feeding frenzy.

Re: Feature: Some Mario Games Just Can't Be Played Properly Anymore

hirokun

It is always interesting to muse over things that are no longer quite as they were. Years down the line, we will see people wax nostalgic over League of Legends and DOTA. People will still play games, but online functions will be long gone or dead, think pokemon, dark souls, heck even, Halo and COD games (when both franchises weren't terrible). Heck those last ones are true now to some extent or other.

I feel like we will come full circle on the idea of some sort of game that has a weekly challenge that breaks up traditional games in such a way as that old japanese zelda game did. We are already pretty accustomed to DLC, episodic games, and regular game patches that add new stuff.

But I'll be interested to see how long term historians of games may manage to keep older games alive and convey what they once were.

Re: Review: Fox n Forests (Switch eShop)

"If you want to jump to shoot an enemy above you, you can’t. If you want to duck an enemy’s attack and shoot them from a distance, you can’t. If you’re standing right next to an enemy who’s on a small step above you and want to melee them, you can’t"

Good to know the game is trash. Thanks for the heads up.
