Re: Guide: The Best Pokémon Games - Every Mainline Pokémon Game Ranked

hirokun

@BulbasaurusRex *4th water based TM. Surf, waterfall, whirlpool, dive. Although whirlpool was replaced with dive for gen 3. I thought dive was okay though since it turned from every water tile forcing me to potentially battle another tentacool, to having patches of seaweed much like tall grass on land which was much nicer. But since you had to have surf AND dive it took up 2 move slots which is always a pain. An issue resolved with sun/moon which those games get almost no credit for sadly just because of the doofy nerf armor.

Re: Guide: The Best Pokémon Games - Every Mainline Pokémon Game Ranked

hirokun

putting 5th gen games above 3rd gen games. That is a spicy move sure to piss people off! haha! I think there is fault made by not bundling the enhanced versions in with their base games(e.g. ruby/sapphire&Emerald, black/white&black2/white2). I think that is why the list is messed up, yes the revised versions are always going to be better, duh.

But the one thing no one can dock you for is putting heart gold/soul silver at the top. For the issues in 4th gen of slow pacing, these remakes of 2nd generation didn't have any of the new experimentation that held the game back while keeping all the best stuff and adding more amazing features including the pokewalker which was the ONLY way until ultrasun/ultramoon to acquire a surfing pikachu and AFAIK still the only way to get a flying pikachu outside of a special distribution. Also it was a good trick to get children to go outside and run around and such. I remember it got me to take my dog on walks a lot.

Re: Soapbox: Why Do We Want More Games When We've Already Got Too Many?

hirokun

@Xaessya This.

No idea why I should be thought of as someone who enjoys every type of game. Do I admit Mario Odyssey is an amazing game, perhaps the best game on the Switch? Yes. Does that mean I want to play it? Would people be mad if I said I have no intentions of playing it because I don't care for Mario much at all? Meanwhile I've voraciously sunk in 110 hours into Xenoblade Chronicles 2, and have pushed other games in my library aside to play the expansion, Torna: The Golden Country. I plan to complete that game and explore it fully. I played Zelda, but did the bare minimum to complete it after I explored the whole map and didn't feel like doing many quests or upgrading equipment and just focused on the story since I was interested in that alone at that point. I spent a mere 70 hours in that despite being "bigger than Skyrim". I just couldn't be bothered, I enjoyed it, but not as much as I had hoped. Then there is looking forward to plenty of games I really do enjoy. Animal Crossing has been a hunger for me since the first game. I love the series and nothing will get in the way of being happy to see it coming next year.

I don't see why this doesn't make sense. I can enjoy one game, not another, and be excited for a new one all at once.

In terms of back log, sometimes games just aren't as important. Some people feel like they need to play a game because other people like it and it is popular. That is how backlogs start, its an excuse for games you don't actually want to play, but feel obligated to try due to social pressure.

In terms of author's friend who thinks there aren't enough games or exclusives perhaps, that isn't why he won't get a switch. It just isn't games he wants, and/or the switch isn't a platform he is excited about, which is fine. I get it, not everyone cares about mario, zelda, animal crossing, pokemon, smash bros, donkey kong, metroid or other platform exclusives be they 1st or 3rd party titles. This is why I don't have an xbox or playstation. They are just wanna be PCs in today's day and age in many ways, and I'd rather play on PC or have a portable system, the nintendo handhelds and now switch have been the perfect systems for me for that reason. But the exclusives for PS have never enticed me, while the only one on Xbox(Halo) that I'd have bought an Xbox1, heck even the XB1X for is being ruined more and more each title under 343i so I have desire to buy that. Does that mean there aren't games on those consoles? No. Are the exclusives bad? No, just that they don't entice me specifically and that is okay.

Re: Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Has Exceeded Expectations Following Strong Sales Outside Of Japan

hirokun

I mean, the story of XBC2 pretty much wraps up the story of the game's world quite well. I can't speak to X on the WiiU since I didn't own the console or how it does or doesn't fit into the series.

So I wouldn't expect more of the same because it is all over and wrapped up quite nicely, and forcing anything else in would probably not go over well. All is well in the end I'd say. So while I don't mind reusing Xenoblade's name just for publicity, I don't want it to be ruining the story already told since there is nowhere left to go.

That being said, I'd even from just a gameplay perspective love to see what they do next. Both games had interesting combat that while having similar elements were distinct and didn't feel recycled in any way.

I've become a huge fan of Monolith from these two games. I do think a port job for X would be the smartest business move. Mule the job out to another studio that can do it well, and that money can help fuel a new game and extend Monolith's time for development of the title.

Though I have to say that my guilty pleasure would be to see more of Shulk and friends again somehow.

Re: Feature: Five Lessons From The Tokyo Game Show 2018

hirokun

Thanks for some REAL journalism. Going to a place, seeing the things and reporting back. Your colorful language helps sure, but it can get a bit messy to get the point. Still, it makes me want to go to the TGS next year myself. It sounds like a fun place to be.

I liked the photoception too, but where is the photo of you taking a photo of the person taking a photo of a cosplayer? How else will we know that you were hard at work?

Re: Nintendo Switch Now Supports Digital Game Sharing, But There's A Catch

hirokun

@dane62 thanks for the clarification. Yeah Splatoon sounds pretty dumb, I don't play it though. So they do everything client side it sounds like, so no wonder that game has rampant unabated hacking. I didn't know anyone even cared about minecraft anymore to be honest, but it does go to say that the storage issue there is a bother. The other big one is the upcoming pokemon games.

The physical games I buy are really only the ones that have the whole game on cart unlike ones such as wolfenstein 2, I just won't buy those games. In terms of online games I don't play those either I guess, and even if I did aren't they mostly F2P? I'm thinking Paladins, Fortnight and Warframe with Splatoon being the only outlier, and again, its such a hot mess in its own right I wouldn't want to buy it.

Re: Random: Katamari Director Wasn't Impressed With Mario Or Zelda On Switch

hirokun

I didn't like BoTW and I'm a diehard zelda fan. I didn't play mario because I suck at mario games and I don't really care for any iteration of the 3D mario games especially, though I recognize it was a great game. While I can feel him on that...I can't see how he thought The Last Guardian was good. Talk about crap AI and clunky outdated PS2 levels of controls. Due to the brief nature of his comments it is hard to saw what he liked and disliked entirely about each game. Honestly he probably ignored the crap gameplay of Last Guardian in favor of the atmosphere and world of the game, which is indeed impressive. However that seems odd considering Both Mario and BoTW had great environments as well, soooo it leaves me with no clue.

Re: Hold Me, Virtual Console Data Has Been Discovered In The Nintendo Switch eShop

hirokun

Eh, I doubt it still. Might just be a bit of dead end code that never goes anywhere but is there just incase a few select games are added. My guess is that over time to online service will add older titles starting from the NES and moving up from there.

My guess was that year 3 they would do a massive reveal and dump of VC titles on the Eshop. Unlike prior systems they just drip fed us random titles until the death of each console. Remember pokemon snap on the WiiU when it was already on its death bed? Such a terrible move! But I thought they would be smart and just dump like 200 games on us all at once after years of working on getting it all set up and really getting a lot of buzz and good press for it. However the comments made about no VC killed that theory pretty fast. I still think it would have been the right move, and allowing WiiU owners(throw those poor guys a bone for once) to just get all their VC purchases free on the switch for any overlapping titles.

I do think Nintendo is getting on board this monthly fee game service thing like Microsoft and Sony have done, and this is the method we will see the VC be done. Though again, I think they have to do it strong, with each batch having lots and lots of games from each console era IF that is even what they plan to do. Though my senses tell me that NES games will be the base price at $20 a month and each other console will add another $5-10 a month and that they will have bundles to choose from to cheapen it for heavy users of course. I don't see $20 giving us THAT much, but being a bit more of a dynamic service in terms of what you pay vs. what you get.

Speaking of what you get, can we get...oh you know, native voice chat and cloud saves on everything?

Back on topic, I believe this code is just a false positive...However, I wouldn't mind being wrong either.

Re: Nintendo Switch Now Supports Digital Game Sharing, But There's A Catch

hirokun

@Mynameishello Hmm? Sounds like you have your knickers in a bunch over something so tiny as my comment, you silly billy! I'll clarify for you.

I guess I didn't really think about it in terms of save data exactly. I was more thinking in terms of losing your entire library vs. losing just a single game cart. I guess I got mixed up in my phrasing talking about save data vs. games you own. I realize that probably you would just have a record of digital games you own and just redownload them to a new system. I don't know if that was possible before the paid online update however since it never came up. My real reason for liking physical is just knowing that no matter what I own the game and I don't have to rely on Nintendo always having an online server to redownload it from or if something wonky happens and they remove it from being redownloaded. These things happen from time to time. So sorry if I was confusing you on that front anyhow.

In terms of my comment about only some games having cloud save....is that NOT true? I thought the whole uproar(imo rightly so) is that some games(even big titles) won't support cloud saves. I'm also confused there about you being upset at me apparently being a fanboy. I thought fanboys made excuses for bad ideas. I think it is a shortcoming indeed, and make no excuse for this blank spot. However, again, if it isn't true and ALL games will support cloud save please edify me. I'm a bit jumbled up too. I won't attribute bad faith or motives despite your abrasive attitude towards me, but let us clarify this situation amicably.

Re: Play It Loud With This Dedicated Portable Speaker For Nintendo Switch

hirokun

The speakers are said to provide "rich audio quality with a deep resounding bass"

Code for: the speakers are crap so we cranked up the bass to make you think it sounds good(what beats does)

It can also act as a power bank, giving 8 hours' worth of play time or two full charges to the console

In before it bricks systems.

Re: Nintendo Switch Now Supports Digital Game Sharing, But There's A Catch

hirokun

pretty standard feature you would expect. I do this on steam when I get a new computer(or have to do a hard drive wipe).

I'm all physical on switch for games that I can get physical, so that doesn't matter to me. However if I lose my switch console, I only lose the one game in the slot so I don't need to worry about their silly "only some games have cloud save" BS.

Re: New Videos Explore The Lore Of Nintendo's Upcoming Mobile RPG Dragalia Lost

hirokun

True. From what I've seen the hollow knight devs say, Nintendo was incredibly helpful. It has been echoed by others too. I think bad ports are really just down to them not having the budget, talent, or desire to make the port good. I mean hell, if we can get Doom on the Switch, there is really no excuse for games that are far less demanding.

Re: Your Nintendo Switch Cloud Save Files Will Be Lost If Your Online Subscription Expires

hirokun

I mean, the probability that you will not renew your membership(assuming you can have autopay at the end of each year) and then a monster truck runs over your switch seems pretty unlikely. $20 a year is such a good deal in the first place that I wouldn't think twice about paying for it no matter what anyhow.

Would a 1 month grace period be nice? Yes, but that is not exactly unfair since your saves will still be locally stored anyhow, cloud saves are just a back up.

The only reason pokemon bank saves your pokemon for some time is that you are literally storing your pokemon there, it isn't some game save back up.

Re: Surfing Pikachu Is A New Mode Of Transport In Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! And Let's Go, Eevee!

hirokun

I'm really glad they finally figured out HMs in a way that keeps them relevent, but not requiring an HM slave. Also a nice touch to add surfing pikachu. However will we having flying pikachu with balloons? In any case I won't likely play the pikachu version as I like eevee more.

Thank you gamefreak. You were on the right track with sun/moon, but this is what we expected. Ditch the nerf armor, and just look cool on the lapras(or surf board in this case).

Re: Eiji Aonuma Says There’s A Possibility The Next Zelda Title Will Be On Switch

hirokun

I'd hope so. Lord. We know that zelda is huge, and with the 3DS being phased out and nothing to replace it, having no zelda game for the next 5 years would be stupid beyond belief. Considering how weak they've been with zelda over the past 8 or so years they need to ramp it up. We have had 4 remasters, OOT, MM, WW, TP. We have had triforce heroes which was pretty much recycling assets from A Link Between world, which used the exact same map from A link to the past. That is extremely little effort with so much asset reusing and updating that I wonder why they wouldn't have started the next zelda game at least a year before breath of the wild released. If there isn't a new zelda game 2 year from now I'd be concerned as to why they don't feel that they can leverage zelda. I think they really only have faith in Mario and pokemon to be quite honest.

Still, I expect at least 2 more zelda games on the switch, but would hope for 4 maybe 5 if you include at least one spin off or side game.

Re: Random: Smash Fans Thank Sakurai For Adding King K. Rool To Ultimate

hirokun

I always feel bad for Sakurai. I hope after this he takes a vacation. I want to see him strike out on a brand new game idea and explore his imagination, he does great work with his team.

This thank you idea was wonderful and I agree with it. Such an exciting addition. After the waluigi thing I felt bad for him. It fill me with joy to know others who play the game are this kind.

Re: Super Mario Party On Switch Won't Include Pro Controller Support

hirokun

This tells me that mario party will be using the joycons to the max of its potential. I am looking forward to seeing what unique things they have in store. I haven't cared about the series since the first one. Sounds like it will be the game 1-2 Switch wishes it could have been.

People are so silly wishing for a regular controller on this one. I mean, I'd prefer M&KB on all console games that aren't platformers, but I don't complain about it. COuld most console games do this? yes. Do they? no. Can a game that uses all joycons features be made to use regular controllers however? No. You cannot, therefore they aren't. I can think of several ways the joycons would work to preclude the pro controller for this game.

Re: Ubisoft Will Not Release Rainbow Six Siege On The Nintendo Switch

hirokun

That is the kind of game that IMO seems like it would be garbage on anything but KB&M honestly. I'm sure they just wouldn't want to bother otherwise. The game is fairly old by now, their sales for it are saturated, and crossplay would be a fools errand. Therefore a potentially dead game for switch that needs lots of care to port. I wish companies would stop lying. I mean I get it, it would be a big risk, and UBI doesn't want to take said risk. Big deal, we get it, just say that...lying makes you look like idiots.

Re: Praise The Sun! Dark Souls: Remastered On Switch Has A Confirmed Release Date

hirokun

@Switch_will_fail maybe. But they missed out big time. October is a cramped space, and they won't do well in it. Switch has moved on to other titles, and people like me who saw how much of a letdown this redo of the game was and who are generally savvy consumers will pass on it. If the next dark souls comes to switch I might get it since it would be a new experience however.
