Re: Nintendo Appears To Have Finally Added An Anti-Cheat System To Splatoon 2

gokev13

I have been paranoid about cheaters playing when I play this game. I'm sure most people who do it, give themselves a subtle advantage so it might be hard to tell if someone is cheating or not. I've suspected people because sometimes they seem to take a few extra shots to finish of or they just seem to get special a little to often but most of the time I just brush it off to me being paranoid.

The one time I was positive that I was up against cheaters was when I was playing clam blitz. The match started, I rushed to the center and before I even got there the opposing team was rushing to our goal with three footballs. That happened all within about 10 seconds and I couldn't imagine how they legitimatly acquired three footballs. I think we still ended up beating them though so maybe there is a reason they resorted to cheating.

Re: Review: WarioWare Gold (3DS)

gokev13

I wanted the first Wario Ware game back when it came out and when I went to the store to buy it the clerk helping me tried to talk me out of buying it because in his mind it was just a stupid mini game collection. I knew what it was and to me it looked awesome.

One thing I loved about the game was you could easily hand it to a friend (even none gamers) and usually they would get the concept quickly and play smiling, laughing, groaning in frustration and all around having a good time trying to beat a score or just doing better than they did last time. Some friends would even seek it out when they came over and play it until they could loudly proclaim that they got the highest score on one of the gamez, usually causing some one else to try and beat it.

Wario Ware was a great game for gamers and non gamers alike and I will probably pick this up for my son since he seems to love the very limited demo (that way I can play it too).

Re: Random: Splatoon 2 Player Hacks In-Game Leaderboard To Send Nintendo A Message

gokev13

@C-Threep I'm sure a lot of people think I'm hacking when they play me because of how good I am.

Though not really.

I do wonder if lag can sometimes give someone an unfair advantage. I just assume if someone seems to teleport it's lag. I have played matches where I seem unstoppable and people seem to have a hard time hitting me and then I wonder if the are seeing me in a slightly different spot than I actually am. Just a theory.

Re: Pokémon Let's Go Pikachu and Eevee Director Explains Why Motion Controls Are Mandatory

gokev13

I personally wasn't interested in this game very much but I watched some of the Treehouse presentation with it and I see what they are trying to do. It isn't the Pokemon game I want but I think it is exactly the Pokemon game my kids would want.

I was skeptical about not having to weaken the Pokemon in battle before catching it, but I can appreciate what they did. I think it would be better if some Pokemon were more agressive though and did actually force you to battle and weaken them to catch them. I think that would have actually strengthend their vision for the game a lot, reinforcing that every Pokemon is different and behaves differently.

Still, an option to turn of motion controls seems like it should have been a given.

Re: Guide: Nintendo Switch Online FAQ - Everything We Know So Far

gokev13

@Shellcore Well I guess at some point we will all know for sure. I really didn't think we were going to be able to play the games without an internet connection until I read on the Nintendo website that we could play classic NES games anytime, anywhere. It made me optimistic that someway, somehow we will be able to play them without a connection. I'm just trying to figure out how that is possible without some kind of download.

I suppose it wouldn't really be hard for Nintendo to let you download it to play anywhere but lock you out of it when your subscription expires. I just try to remain optimistic until we know further details. Though I am not really expecting to keep the games after the subscription runs out or the online service is over but it is still technically a possibility.

Re: Guide: Nintendo Switch Online FAQ - Everything We Know So Far

gokev13

Based on the information that has been provided I am okay with buying a year subscription and am excited to have access to the ten games announced. I am excited for them to reveal the other 10 games and other games in the future. I suppose it depends on how they continue with this service wether I will be excited or just indifferent to buying future subscriptions.

Based on how the wording on their website, I imagine you will be able to download the games onto your switch. They say you can play them anytime, anywhere. Unless I missed the fine print that states, "anywhere you have a secure internet connection", I think you will be able to download the games on your switch and play them anywhere.

Of course we will learn more as time goes on, but to those concerned about not getting to keep the games, it is possible that as long as they are downloaded on your switch they stay there. To stop people from paying for a month and downloading all of them and keeping them perhaps with a subscription you will have access to everything online, and can download 3 per month to keep or something like that. Just a thought.

Re: The Virtual Console Isn't Coming To Switch, Nintendo Confirms

gokev13

@GamingDude800 One good thing for me: I will play these games and enjoy them with my family.

Strangely enough if this announcement was, "virtual console is starting up in September with 20 NES games available at launch: prices will vary between $4-12" I would still be excited but I probably wouldn't buy or play any of the games listed possible missing out on a lot of fun.

For all I know I might be playing ice climber for hours with my kids but if it was offered on virtual console I would say "no thanks".

That's just how I am.

Re: The Virtual Console Isn't Coming To Switch, Nintendo Confirms

gokev13

@Crono1973 You could be right about that but as I recall when they first announced this online subscription they were going to allow access to around three nes games a month for a free trial which you could purchase at some point. I'm not entirely sure why they changed it but I was lead to believe there was such backlash that they decided to postpone the online subscription so they could rework it into something that the consumers wanted.

I would have probably have paid for $20 for an online service just to play online games like Splatoon. I would be feeling a little ripped off but the benefits to me would still out way the cost or else I wouldn't pay. With their first model they announced I would have felt a bit better about it but maybe not very excited. As of now I am excited for this service. Whether Nintendo is only offering it for their own benefit, I guess I am fortunate enough to feel like I am benefiting from it as well.

Re: The Virtual Console Isn't Coming To Switch, Nintendo Confirms

gokev13

@Crono1973 You are right, I would still be paying for them, I am aware of that. I can't say this will be better for the majority of consumers but for this consumer it is enough to make me excited. My excitement is also based on unrevealed information so that could change as more gets revealed.

If I am correct, 20 NES games with online components will be available at launch and half of those have been revealed. Now if these are the only 20 games that are going to be on there ever, it is less exciting. If they are going to add a few games, say once a month, to an ever growing library it gets more exciting to me. If other consoles or third party NES games get incorporated into this, even better.

The online components are also up in the air. Most likely there will be leader boards and hopefully you will be able to compete with other people in Dr. Mario or Balloon Fight online. Maybe Zelda will time your play throughs and there will be a leader board with scores based on time and fewest deaths or some such thing. Who knows. I am excited to find out. What they gave Zelda a multiplayer battleode or something to play on line? Unlikely, but at this point a possibility.

If I was only interested in SMB 3 and was only ever going to be interested in SMB 3 than I would not be excited for this. Spending $100 to have access to a game for 5 years sounds terrible. Spending $20 to have access to 20 games (most likely more) for one year sounds great to me. I know I will play all of them (some more than others) and that is before considering the online aspect. Depending on online stuff, I might play some of those games a lot.

As far as not actually owning the games, it doesn't bother me a whole lot. Ten years ago it probably would have but right now it doesn't. I have a large collection of games in my house but I enjoy playing games more than owning them. In my experience, "Better to have played and not owned, than never to have played at all".

This is an opportunity for me to play a ton of games I normally wouldn't for relatively cheap. If we look at it as paying for an experience it is great value for your money. It costs me more to take my family to a movie to experience something between 1 and 2 hours long (if we buy snacks it costs even more). If I play each of the NES games half an hour, that's 10 hours of entertainment. I know for a fact I will be getting far more hours of entertainment for me and my family out of this program. Looks like I might even be able to work a deal with my brother, get the family subscription for both our families and pay even less. That excites me.

It might not be for everyone but it works for me and I think it is a great deal. I'm excited and you won't be able to convince me not to be excited because we clearly look at gaming, spending, and value a bit differently. That's okay but I am sorry that you are disappointed in what Nintendo is doing with this.

Re: The Virtual Console Isn't Coming To Switch, Nintendo Confirms

gokev13

The good thing about being able to play NES games on a subscription model rather than the VC console model is that I will actually be able to play them.

With the virtual console I would see NES games I was interested in but not actually willing to shell out money for that specific game. This way I can try the games and really see if I enjoy them or not.

On Netflix I have watched shows that I have really enjoyed but would not have bought if I just saw a DVD in a store. On the flip side I have tried shows that I didn't like but didn't care because my money wasn't spent on that one specific show.

Hopefully Nintendo keeps building up the library of games. I love playing NES games so I am excited for this.

Re: Review: Nintendo Labo: Toy-Con 02 - Robot Kit (Switch)

gokev13

My son has been making crap out of cardboard for years so I am contemplating at lest buying the variety kit. I am concerned about finding tons of cardboard creations all over the house though.

He once tried to make a chair with cardboard, staples and tape. Guess who had his foot pierced with staples in the middle of the night while walking to the bathroom. This guy!

Re: Random: Spot The Difference Between These Two Covers For Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze

gokev13

NOA censorship strikes again. They knew that someone in America had a "giant ape foot" fetish so they figured they better make it a little more subdued or else the rating would go up. I for one am outraged at this needless censorship. The game was clearly made for that select group so why cover it up?

I am also offended at how video games objectify primates. Why not also make a game that shows reptile feet on the cover?

It's a good day for me since I could get offended and vent on this comment section now matter what Nintendo did with this cover. 😉

Re: Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze Disappears From The North American Wii U eShop

gokev13

Now everyone can relax again. Clearly Nintendo read your comments, realized the error of their ways and now wants to pretend that they never tried this shady underhanded tactic to boost sales.

Seriously though, think through this whole scenario. How would this have helped boost sales? When they released Mario Kart 8 for Wii U, cutting off the online play for Mario Kart Wii made sense because they were trying to convince those people still playing it on Wii that they should move over to the new system and game.

Taking DKTF off the WiiU eShop would not push anyone (at least not a significant amount) to buy it on the Switch.

Re: Video: Feast Your Eyes On This New Trailer For Octopath Traveler

gokev13

@SmaggTheSmug I mentioned that in the demo survey. I am vary interested in this game but if you have to repeat large sections with the eight separate characters I think it would dampen the experience for me.

I would love to have it set up so that with one save file you can jump around between the eight different characters freely. For example, you wouldn't be able to recruit the dancer until you get her story to a certain point. Of course there are down sides to that approach so I guess I will wait until it is revealed how exactly the story is all going to work.

Re: Nintendo Download: 29th March (North America)

gokev13

Is the Xenoblade Chronicles 2 DLC any good so far (I know the Story part isn't out yet)? I love the game and still haven't finished everything in it I want to but at the point I am I cannot imagine the quests being more than "Warp here, talk to this guy, warp there, fight a weak monster, warp back and talk to so and so again..." etc.

Like I said I love the game but I am scared the DLC will actually start to make it feel stale at this point.

Re: Nintendo's Norwegian Site Triggers Speculation That Bayonetta 3 And Metroid Prime 4 Could Launch This Year

gokev13

Unless Nintendo has specifically said when they started development of Metroid Prime 4 I don't think we can assume it won't be released in 2018. The first time we even knew that Mario Odyssey was a thing was during the Switch reveal trailer. The game was released a little over a year later.

Perhaps they could have shown us MP4 footage at E3 but didn't because they actually had enough to games coming out in 2017 that they felt they could stick with just focusing on those games. It would make sense to reveal games later in development so that they can be more confident on when it will be released instead of showing off games, and then delaying them multiple times in order to make them better causing fans to get frustrated when they have to wait years instead of months to get that game they know is coming eventually.

Of course all of that is just speculation and maybe just a little wishful thinking because it would be awesome if MP4 came out in 2018 (providing they didn't cut corners).

Though when I think about it, I don't really know of any first party titles coming out in 2018. There was a Yoshi game I think but other than that I can't think of any. They probably don't have a major first party game per month like 2017 but surely they didn't just pile all there games into 2017 without planning out 2018. They did say they learned some valuable lessons from the WiiU era right?

Re: Random: These N64 Box Art Covers Have Not Aged Well

gokev13

I remember being a bit starved for RPGs during the N64 era. I wanted to get Quest but I was poor and it never panned out. Probably not worth the time now but when I saw the thumbnail for this article I thought it was being released on the eshop or something and I got excited for some reason. I guess the me from the N64 era still wants to play it.

Re: Poll: Surprise! A New Zelda Is In Development, But What Do You Want From It?

gokev13

Perhaps someone already said it but I would love another Breath of the Wild open world with more traditional dungeons, even if it meant it was a bit more linear. Honestly I think the system of "Link Between Worlds" would be a perfect fit with a huge open world like "BOTW". Some kind of central item shop where you can rent/purchase key items that you need to use in order to reach and complete a dungeon. I thought that system worked really well for the game it was in and I imagine it would work well in a game like BOTW.

Re: Nintendo Shares Gamers' Breath of the Wild #ZeldaMoments

gokev13

Shortly after I got the game, my wife was watching me play. I was fighting a camp of enemies and did a perfect dodge which triggered a flurry rush. She commented how it was pretty cool that you could do that. I decided to show her how time also slows down when you pull out your bow in the air so I said, "Watch this." and jumped off a nearby cliff. At that exact moment Link got shot in the back with an arrow and tumbled down the mountain dying at the bottom. She slow clapped as the Game Over screen appeared and we both had a good laugh.

Re: Review: Xenoblade Chronicles 2 (Switch)

gokev13

@The_Mysteron

Time sink is the correct phrase, but I must say I found a lot of enjoyment from it. Even grinding out some of the tougher achievements was a kind of therapy. Zoning out, sorting through thoughts, even praying while my body was on automatic, defeating the toughest bosses in the game over and over again (and again and again) was beneficial in a way. Perhaps there were better uses of my time in the evening, or perhaps I was able to be a better person in general because of it. Whose to know.

Re: Review: Xenoblade Chronicles 2 (Switch)

gokev13

I really enjoyed XC and XCX. I pretty much played XCX exclusively for almost a year since I got i for Christmas. I remember telling myself in August that I would finish the story and missions and then be done. Then I thought I should maybe fill the beastiary but there was no way I was going to go for all of the achievement s because some of them were absolutly ridiculous, but suddenly I found myself working at getting all the achievements. I completed that task sometime in November and I almost convinced myself to then work on a bunch of different character/skell builds but I managed to take it out of my WiiU, stick it on the shelf and I haven't touched it since. I will be getting XC2, but I am not sure if it will be a good idea for me.

Re: Nintendo is Heading for Its Best Ever eShop Revenues, Driven by Switch Success

gokev13

I have 3 games for the Switch, Zelda BOTW, Splatoon 2 and Mario Odyssey. There are a ton of eShop games I would love to get but I'm still not finished with any of the three games I have. With Xenoblade Chronicles coming out in December I probably won't buy anything on the eShop for a long time. Though I guess the Zelda DLC probably counts as an eShop sale so I did contribute to these numbers a bit.

Re: Anniversary: It's One Year Since Nintendo Showed Us The Switch

gokev13

@bimmy-lee I had a similar experience with my wife. Except when she saw the trailer and said sarcastically, "So you can play it on the T.V. or as a screen with controllers attached. How is that any different than the WiiU?". She was okay with me getting one but somehow didn't realize I could leave the house with it for awhile. She literally thought it was just an upgraded WiiU. She occasionally plays WiiU and 3ds but has never touched our Switch yet.
