Childish Gambino's latest track might have captured the zeitgeist in 2018, but back in 2012 the man otherwise known as Donald Glover took inspiration from a very different source. Much to the delight of veteran VGM composer David Wise, who recently discovered the track 'Eat your Vegetables' uses a looped sample from 'Aquatic Ambiance' the chill underwater section from Donkey Kong Country.
You can check our the track above. What do you make of it? It's pretty subtle, but you can definitely tell it's that classic DKC sound in the background. Share your thoughts below...

Who is that guy?
@TommyTLG Donald Glover. Nice chap.
He skipped three difficulty settings with This is America and went from easy straight to pro.
@TommyTLG Donald Glover, also known as Childish Gambino, is an talented American actor, comedian, writer, director, record producer, singer, songwriter, rapper and DJ.
@TommyTLG Some guy no one's allowed to meme.
@SmaggTheSmug on Reddit he's most certainly meme'd a lot! Though almost always on a positive light
This is awesome!
@TommyTLG That's Troy
@TommyTLG A guy who led a charmed middle class life, went on to become rich and famous and now wants to complain about how awful it is to live in a country filled with the opportunities he was able to benefit from.
He was great on Community though.
Wow. Really old news. Well I guess for Mr. Wise and everyone else who just found Childish Gambino.
Been listening to him since my senior year in high school. When this song came out I was mid college and I blasted it all the time in my car. I'm glad everyone is loving Donald now, but it's weird that he has so much fame now and that people are just finding out. He should've been this famous back then, but alas, no one was ready.
@Saego He's also the young Lando Calrissian in the new Star Wars spin off 'Solo'!
Aquatic Ambiance rules.
Apropos of nothing, I've heard Solo is better than it has any right to be and Glover's Lando is a big reason why.
Sounds amazing!
I like Donald Glover, and enjoy his music very talented guy.
If anyone wants to see him at his best, watch the TV series Community.
@JHDK that's pretty much how I see it haha I'm black and I live in the US and I get that there are problems with violence but damn the irony is strong when a man proves anyone can find success in this country with the right mentality then spends his time making everyone else have a victimhood mentality which is NOT how you find success.
Donald Glover is a true Renaissance Man. From Childish Gambino to the excellent TV show Atlanta. I hope he can keep it up.
@JHDK What are you talking about? Because he supposedly is from middle class, he can't rap about the many problems facing the US today? This is not the place to get political about it imo.
It’s so weird hearing him rap... I remember him from derrickcomedy on YouTube. The bike skit was by far my favorite. 😂
I found a video where he talks about this song:

Love this guy! Love Community!! Check out Troy & Abed's Christmas rap
One of the greatest songs I've EVER heard in ALL my years of gaming. I'm not surprised.
@strongbadrunner Well aren't you just too cool for everyone here.
Ah yes, sampling. When you want to write a song but aren't sure how to do the actual music part. Lol
Reminds me of Norwegian Recycling's Donkey Business album from years ago:
Who?
This guy's music is a lot better with the sound off.
Jimminy Christ, people like to have STRONG and DRAMATIC opinions regarding other folks. Mr. Glover is hard working and talented. Your personal tastes are personal. Before this internet conundrum, you would've only been able to moan about new tunes with your own chaps. Shhhhhhhhhh. I'm practicing my saxophone; you all are worse than my old mum.
That's a lot of video game references for a song that also talks about not using the safe word and having to hide scars.
@GustavoMaciel That is the most important answer.
The DKC song was definitely not subtle at the end. The whole thing pretty much played.
he ruined a classic.
How come we can't "bad language" on this site while NL feels free to embed this clip in this article? Double standards much?
Cool beat but the lyrics are terrible.
@arekdougy I think he's cute and I like him as an actor but his music could use a lot of work.
Hmm, I prefer the original!
