Re: It's Not Just The Switch Which Received A Firmware Update Today

gokev13

Every once in awhile when when waking up my Switch by pulling it out of the cradle to play it in potable mode one of the joycons wouldn't wake up and connect. All I had to do was detach the joycon and press the little button on the side and it would wake up and connect so it wasn't a huge deal but it has happened several times since I got it. Maybe there was an issue there that got fixed.

Re: The Latest Zelda: Breath of the Wild 'Tip' is All About Selfies

gokev13

I will say this though, I was a little disappointed with the selfie option because I thought Link should be actually holding the Sheikah Slate in his hand so that the selfie pictures show Link's face and torso with his arm extending to the camera. You should then have the option to change his facial expression, like make him do "duck lips" for instance. If another character/enemy/animal is beside Link taking a selfie they should automatically move their heads together for the selfie and allow you to pick from different facial expressions or poses, like "cheek to cheek" or arms around each other. Just imagine taking a selfie with a Lynel in mid battle with their cheeks together both making the "duck lips" face. It could have been magical.

Re: Reggie on How Nintendo Handles Announcements and Responds to Fan Input

gokev13

What if they surprised us by having Metroid Prime 4 come out earlier than anyone expects. I know I an wearing rose tinted glasses but consider this; didn't we first hear about Mario Odyssey through some video clips during the Switch reveal which was about a year ago? The game is being released end of October roughly a year after they revealed it. I know it isn't likely but think about it.

Re: Metroid: Samus Returns Makes Modest Chart Debut in Japan, as Switch Still Dominates

@SLIGEACH_EIRE "People love to have a pop at me."

I think it is because you have come to be kind of a celebrity on here. I personally enjoying reading the article and then scanning the comments to see what you posted about it and then skipping down to all the comments replying to yours and your counter replies. It can be very entertaining reading sometimes. Keep it up!

Re: Reminder: Don't Miss The Flight Vs Invisibility Splatfest In Splatoon 2

gokev13

I picked flight. To make a fair choice I imagined that both powers would have to have similar limitations to be fair. For instance it would have to required the same amount of effort for both, so either no effort to do them or it tires me out just as fast to be invisible as it does to fly. If I can fly with all my clothes on while holding a phone then I can be invisible with my clothes on as well. Keeping everything as equal as possible I would rather fly. I'm not really interested in secretly watching people "ink their Splat Zones".

Re: Mayo Wins in Splatoon 2's Battle of the Condiments

gokev13

I was on team Mayo and I was connected with another Mayo team for my first battle at the very start of the Splatfest and again at the very end of Splatfest. Both of those times my team formed quickly and then their was a longer wait before the other mayo team was suddenly there. I'm not really a pro player or anything but there were a few times when the team I was on completely dominated the ketchup team, I think once my Mayo team was completely dominated, but most battles seemed very close. I had a lot fun though and it was nice to be on the winning side.

For those who are calling foul at Nintendo's matchmaking consider this; when the large majority of players are on the same team you can either play your own team and still have a chance to build up your points to get more seashells or you can spend the majority of the time waiting to get lucky enough to get matched with a team with not enough players to go around. I know what I would rather be doing.

Re: Wisdom Tree Wants To Inflict Noah's Ark On The World, Again

gokev13

Anyone who wants a better understanding of the Bible should check out "The Bible Project" on youtube. They basically have short videos summarizing every book of the Bible, and even Biblical themes. Or if you might even enjoy Phil Vischer's series for kids, "What's in the Bible with Buck Denver". I noticed Zach777 already mentioned it but I thought I would reiterate the point. Even if you don't believe the Bible to be true perhaps it would at least give you an idea how well educated people can logically believe it to be true without relying solely on faith.

Re: Bit Dungeon+ to Bring Some Old-School Goodness to 3DS This Week in North America

gokev13

@BinaryFragger Although my comment below you was a joke I couldn't resist, when I was watching the trailer and saw a second player I got excited, and after confirming that it does have a two player option and also doesn't need the second screen I do wish it was coming to the Switch. It looks perfect for plopping down on a table, handing someone a controller and saying, "Let's play this." It is a game I could see my brother and I playing together. Oh well, I won't complain.

Re: Square Enix Has Been 'Tenacious' in Ongoing Conversations About Final Fantasy XIV on Switch

gokev13

@CTMike Yah I might have to seek it out but the reason I haven't yet is that I have had such a backlog of games for so long. I want to play Final Fantasy IX in particular but every time I think about it I look at the games I already have that I haven't played and then look at the games coming out that I want and it just gets hard for me to justify purchasing another console just to play it unless I find one at a garage sale for a ggod price or something. I might look into the mobile version though, but I tend to avoid mobile games. It's not a bad price though so perhaps I will do some research. Thanks for the heads up.

Re: Poll: What Did You Think of the Pokémon Direct and Its Big Reveals?

gokev13

@ericflapjack

"I think the best thing to come out of it, though, is that it is 8 minutes saved from the 30 minute Spotlight next week that can be spent talking about other things."

I imagine that is why they had a separate Direct for this as well. Though I will be downright ticked if they do repeat all of this information during the 30 minute spotlight.

Re: Poll: What Did You Think of the Pokémon Direct and Its Big Reveals?

gokev13

Pokemon Gold was my favorite Pokemon I have ever played. Of course I haven't really played anything after that, except for Diamond but that was only a couple of years ago and I guess Pokemon has lost a bit of it's charm for me. My son played the Sun/Moon demo and kept asking me to get it. I told them to save up their allowance and do extra chores around the house and he could buy it. He never talked about it again. I am not willing to pay for a game several times just so everyone who wants to play it in the family can have their own save file.

Re: Mega Man Legacy Collection 2 is Announced, But is Skipping Nintendo Switch and 3DS

gokev13

I am sure some one has already mentioned this but perhaps it has something to do with what Nintendo is planning on doing with VC or something like that. Either Capcom knows something we don't or they don't know enough and are waiting to find out before they release any collections like this or the Disney collection on the Switch. There must be some reason otherwise I just don't understand why they wouldn't release these games on a system that is still in high demand and that is owned by a lot of long time Mega Man fans. They must know something we don't right?

Re: Nintendo's Online Service For Switch Will Offer "Ongoing Access" To Classic Games

gokev13

@Crono1973 I don't care if you use an emulator or not. Like I said I used to emulate games, mostly SNES RPGs. Since it is such a tricky issue legally and morally I just ended up steering away from it and I personally just don't think of it as an option for me anymore.

I'm just explaining why this subscription thing might be something I would be interested in. It would be great if companies offered demos for every game produced but in the meantime if I am unsure I usually look at what reviewers say about a game to find out if the pros will outweigh the cons for me. With a library of games even if I hate a game on there I can still finish it which is something I tend to do.

A while back someone gave me a bunch of old NES games and I played and finished a bunch of them, even the ones that I thought were awful to begin with. Usually when I was good enough to finish a game I didn't like I had a new found appreciation for it and managed to actually enjoy the fact that I beat it and experienced it. These are games I never would have purchased myself but am glad I experienced. If the library has a bunch games that I adore and ones that I never would have bought but found enjoyment out of them nonetheless, then $20 a year is worth it for me. Again I guess we shall see the fuller details later.

Re: Nintendo's Online Service For Switch Will Offer "Ongoing Access" To Classic Games

gokev13

@Crono1973 I am assuming that you mean using emulators (especially since you are defending it in your last comment). I used to use a emulators to play games that I new I was never going to play legally (like Lufia 2) or to try games that I wanted as a kid but never ended up getting. I don't know though, for me I just gradually stopped and never went back. However you justify it, it is still illegal but I understand why people do it. Just because I do not have the means to obtain something legally does not give me the right to obtain it illegally, even if it is something as trivial and harmless as video games. Still being able to not only try games I haven't played but to finish them, master them, play them with others online is attractive to me. If the library gets large enough, even if I get enjoyment out of say 4 games a year or so it is worth it to me. I mean it's cheaper than Netflix and hopefully they have enough games on it that I would use it more than Netflix but I guess we will see.

Re: Nintendo's Online Service For Switch Will Offer "Ongoing Access" To Classic Games

gokev13

@SLIGEACH_EIRE The benefit to having access to a library of games through a subscription would be that you could play games that you perhaps were interested in but didn't want to purchase and then find out you hated it. Of course whether this is worth the subscription price also depends on the size of the library and how often they add new games. I also wonder if games will eventually be taken out of the library after a certain time and if the games will be available to purchase outright for non-subscribers. There are still questions to be answer but I can see this being a good thing for me at least.

Re: Zelda: Breath of the Wild Director Says the Game’s Design Could Become the New Standard

gokev13

@UmbreonsPapa Yes it have been great if they had more variety bosses new and from previous games scattered around the map. I'm talking about no repeats. Like if there was an out of the way grove in the lost woods where a Queen Gohma attacks you. Or a Koloktus in some ancient ruin. I guess we will see where the series goes because I am sure a lot of these kinds of ideas were tossed around but at a certain point they just had to complete the game and stop moving the release date.

Re: Zelda: Breath of the Wild Director Says the Game’s Design Could Become the New Standard

gokev13

I am continuing to love this game. I do long for proper dungeons though. I keep thinking that a hybrid between this and LoZ:Link Between Worlds would have been even closer to perfection. Imagine a huge open world like Breath of the Wild, with dungeons that you could complete in any order by renting special items that you could eventually pay to own like Link Between Worlds. Of course you would probably then have to scrap the breakable weapons system though.

Re: Preview: Trading Blows With ARMS on Nintendo Switch

gokev13

@JasmineDragon I was on the fence as well, but if I am the only one in my family that would play it I am not going to bother. I like it enough to want it, but not enough to actually buy it. If my kids were really into it I probably would buy it but I guess I won't. I think it's fun though.

Re: Preview: Trading Blows With ARMS on Nintendo Switch

gokev13

@redd214 Kids these days. Though my kids our notorious for not trying anything new. There are so many games I thought they would be excited for and they just are not. I asked my 7 year old if he would be more into Splatoon and he said that looked boring too. At least they like Zelda.

Re: Preview: Trading Blows With ARMS on Nintendo Switch

gokev13

I enjoyed playing it a couple of times during the test punch but I probably won't pick it up. At least not right away. I thought that if my kids were interested then maybe I would get it but I showed them Sunday and they were just not interested. My seven year old son didn't even want to try it and when I talked to him about it he said that it looked boring. I asked him what he thought of the characters and he said the only one he liked was Helix. I kind of thought that any seven year old boy who liked video games and super heroes would have just naturally gravitated to something like this but I guess I was wrong.

Re: Guide: How to Remove That Pesky Joy-Con Wrist Strap

gokev13

I have never used the Joy-con strap attachment after having my Switch for over a month. I put them out of eye sight when I unpacked my Switch and never felt the need to touch them again. Perhaps I should try them and see what all the fuss is about, who knows, I may actually prefer it.

Re: Video: The Complete History Of Mario Kart

gokev13

@Rei I did read that they were emulated after I posted my comment. I haven't emulated for a long time and generally don't like to. It is unfortunate though when it is probably the only way I will get to play games that I otherwise would be willing to pay for. Though I did watch some videos on youtube and the games seem quite a bit different than the console versions and I am not sure if it is a good different or not.

Re: Video: Check Out the First Teaser Trailer for the Netflix Castlevania Show

gokev13

@SLIGEACH_EIRE
There is a possibility that by the time it comes out I will be able to watch it on my Switch. If not I guess I could watch it on my T.V, smartphone, 3DS, WiiU, or PC. Usually if I am using my Switch it is to play Zelda where ever I darn well please anyways. Though after watching this trailer I demand Nintendo update my NES to use Netflix. Make it happen Nintendo!

Re: Video: The Complete History Of Mario Kart

gokev13

I have never seen the arcade versions anywhere. I would love to play those ones. I wonder if those would ever get ported over to the Switch. I am guessing not very likely but if Nintendo could ever do that I am sure I am not the only one who would be interested in getting them.

Re: Talking Point: ARMS Has Plenty to Prove In Its Nintendo Direct

gokev13

Alex has given me the courage in his video to step out and say I really liked Star Fox Zero. I don't mean despite the controls, I mean because of the controls. I really enjoyed it and thought it was a step in the right direction. I love my Switch but I am sad to see dual screen gaming on it's way out. I always enjoyed the games that made creative use of two screens and wished more games did. I didn't just like Star Fox Zero, I loved it and I played it whenever I could until I got all the medals etc. If I didn't have such a backlog of games I would probably still be trying to finish every route on Arcade mode, and I probably will go back to it from time to time. It's a great game and deserves more than it got. There I said it.
