Square Enix is one of the most important publishers working in the video game arena today, and it has already pledged its support to Switch with titles like I Am Setsuna and Lost Sphear.
While many Nintendo fans would have hoped for more significant support, Square Enix president and CEO Yosuke Matsuda has revealed that a great many of the company's employees are keen to produce content for the system.
Speaking to EDGE magazine, Matsuda said:
They (our eShop titles) haven’t done badly! Obviously it only came out last March, so it hasn’t been long, but of all the publishers who are working on Switch we’ve done quite a few things. It’s a very attractive platform – there are a lot of people within the company that are looking to make games for Switch.
We've already had hints that Final Fantasy may be coming to Switch, but which other titles would you especially like to see on Nintendo's console?

I highly doubt we're getting Kingdom Hearts 3 Switch, but the support has been great so far.
I want to see FF Dissidia NT on the Switch honestly, it’ll be like the portability they used to have back on the PSP
I always thought it was strange that so many Kingdom Hearts spin-offs have released on Nintendo consoles, but never the main games. If we get ports of Kingdom Hearts 1.5 and 2.5 (or whatever they're called) I'd buy them day one.
Chrono Break? I am a dreamer today.
Don't know if it is possible but how about Kingdom Hearts 3 for the Switch?
Or at the very least the hd collections of the previous games! Kingdom Hearts on the go would be amazing.
Vagrant Story 2. C'mon, Squeenix - it's time!
More RPGs are always welcomed. I'd gladly buy em
anything from the final fantasy cannon and I would be in heaven! I think final fantasy tactics would be perfect for switch
Do any of them want to do Dragon Quest XI for the Switch? I really am curious about the state of this game.
Just want Kingom Hearts. SE can keep everything else if they give me that.
Dont care I prob buy it but please with less dialogue than in Lost Sphear!!
Esp. less irrelevant dialogue...
They can get by with HD remasters of their back catalogue that missed Nintendo consoles for me!
Squeenix makes some good games, hopefully we see a new Bravely game (and more) from them. I also hope to see DQXI released in the West this year.
That’s great. The switch has definitely proven itself. Now we just need a release date for Octopath Traveler.
Switch will never get KH3 or the non phone version of FFXV, but just gimme a translated SD Collection
Kingdom Hearts 3. Also, a KH collection. It's really a no brainer at this point. They should also do an HD remake of the Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers from Wii. I would love to see the series continued as well.
Action speaks louder than words. Saying "It’s a very attractive platform" isn't going to make games. Are you making games or not. yes or no? Not PR spin...
Final Fantasy XII The Zodiac Age
Final Fantasy Type-0
Final Fantasy Tactics
Vagrant Story
Front Mission
Get any of those on the Switch, SquareEnix, and I'll be happy
Well, they are welcome to do Dragon Quest I to III. I don't care if they're remakes or the original ones emulated in a Virtual Console kind of thing. But please, japanese names. Their work could be this: a good translation, or restoration of names (no Dragon Warrior, of course), and launch them as they are.
give us the English version of Dragon Question 11!
I've never played the Kingdom Hearts games so I think it'd be cool if they came to the Switch. I'd also like to see some new stuff though.
More talk.
Give us a Final Fantasy Collection from one to ten, and i would be sooo happy
Square can shovel in some Final Fantasy if that makes them happy, I just want Dragon Quest XI.
Fingers crossed for it being a sort-of deluxe version with voice acting and other perks added. Builders and Heroes are good, but we need mainline games on the system (and the MMORPG doesn't count as far as I'm concerned).
Hoping to see Life is Strange and the sequel make it out on Switch.
Stop talking and start acting.
Please, SquareEnix. Gimme :
FF XII The Zodiac Age
FF X/X-2 HD
FF IX HD
FF VIII HD
FF Tactics
World of Final Fantasy
Chocobo Dungeon 2 (PS1)
Chocobo Racing HD
FF III & IV (from IOs)
Give me Kingdom Hearts and I'l be happy.
Besides Persona and Nier Automata, FF XV/XII/VII are quite frankly the only games I’ll be missing on Switch, so if somehow they find a way on the system I’ll be over the moon. Japan even more so...just saying. I want Switch to become the ultimate JRPG machine of this gen and that’s only possible with SE.
If, however, they have plans for that Pocket edition garbage, well...
Can we please have new Taito games for Switch Square Enix!
@nitrolink When Kingdom Hearts 3 releases in 2097, I'm sure Nintendo's consoles will have the horsepower to run it. It will be a great day for all of us in the nursing home.
I'd like to see:
Kingdom Hearts Collection
Tomb Raider
Then left field a Legacy of Kain reboot
Perhaps a Mana or Chrono game as well
@lemonjellydude I was going to say, new FF Tactics.
KH3, FFXV....sadly no FF7R since that's Sony exclusive (for now?) but that looks like it's going to be an episodic cluster anyway, so I suspect we're not missing much beyond hype.
@Snow-Dust Absolutely! First thing I thought when I tried the Dissidia FF NT demo was "I wish this was on Switch! It would be so perfect for it!" It's like Splatoon meets MOBA with a splash of Platinum for good measure. One key reason I haven't bought it on PS4 yet is I'm waiting to see if it comes to Switch. I'd play it so much more, the game would fit the platform so well (it's a local multiplayer arcade game from Japan...if that doesn't scream "Switch" what does??)
The netcode is B A D though. Clearly they used the lan code from the cabinets and it doesn't play so well on western internet. But the game is cool and visually could easily work on Switch.
....Then make games Squeenix. Don't just talk about it.
...That said, can't wait for octopath.
Having the most recent Hitman game on the go would be amazing. I also really really really want a new Theatrhythm, my favourite rhythm game.
Not much of an RPG fan, but the more Switch games the better. They did the new Tomb Raider Games, right? I played both on 360 already, but would be interested in revisiting those. Could be a good time to port those with the new movie on the horizon.
I hope to see more Dragon Quest, Bravely Default and Secret of Mana. Maybe a Chrono Trigger HD remake?
Don't care for Kingdom Hearts. Never found the series appealing. The gameplay was always a mayor issue with me. Didn't help that I also don't care for Disney characters that much. But Square Enix made it a point to keep the mainline games on PlayStation systems. And as far as I am concerned, it can stay there this gen as well.
I think Square Enix will also keep mainline Final Fantasy on PS4 as to not fracture the fanbase. Again, I got no problems with that.
Just give us proper Dragon Quest games and some new experimental JRPGs like Project Octopath
Final Fantasy is too much to hope for right now. Other titles, maybe.
What would I like to see?
Mainline Dragon Quest games (like XI)
Final Fantasy, if that makes them happy.
A final name and release date for Project Octopath Traveler
Wishful thinking: Kingdom Hearts
TWEWY2 please.
Wonder where that mythical Switch release of DQXI is...
Isn’t Dissidia NT a clusterf**k? I rather have the original Dissidia Duodecim remade for the Switch, that was a freaking awesome game.
Plus how about a remake of FFV and FFVI in the vein of the PSP remakes of I, II and IV? That would be amazing.
...Screw KH3, give meh Fortune Street!!! >.<
With a board creator.
Great, so make the games then. Give us Kingdom Hearts 3 on the Switch (and while you're at it, give us the HD Remakes as well), give us a localization for the Seiken Densetsu collection on Switch in the West (a fan translation of the 3rd game already exists...if you have to, just pay them for the translation already), and port over the Secret of Mana PS4 remake to Switch. There, you've got a few really popular and in-demand games you could easily bring over to the Switch (and incidentally, they'd all sell better on Nintendo's hybrid machine). Enjoy your profits!
@8-Bit_Superman 50/50 we'll all be dead, but I'm a glass half full person. Of course, if some divine intervention happens and humanity gets a reprieve 80 years from now or so, I suspect Square will still say KH3 is "developing nicely but we can't yet commit to a firm release date."
I'm no fool, so unless Square brings some of their bigger titles to the Switch, like Nier: Automata, Tomb Raider, or even Kingdom Hearts, then I will not be buying any of their leftover trash. Nobody should ever accept 2nd rate garbage, but that's just me.
@Ryu_Niiyama It's not like they're Capcom....they make a fair number of games these days
@NEStalgia plays more SFV: AE Huh, did you say something?
I guess I could have used monster hunter, but not my cup of tea.
@Ryu_Niiyama Scumbag Capcom ships SFV: Arcade Edition. Doesn't release to arcades.
At least you found one of their 3 games enjoyable! I'll just wait for my copy of Deep Down..............
...........
......
Its interesting they never do digital versions of FF1-6 on consoles that often, unless its a simple VC or Mini console port and mobile. They've been remade enough times, you put those on the eShop and PS4/XBONE digital stores with achievements and whatnot and those would sell pretty well.
Of course, not the crappy mobile ports but at least base it off a GOOD remake
@NEStalgia It went to arcades... oh you meant American arcades. Well I'm still mad at sega locking VF5 to their Japan only network. So I'll forgive capcom. At least if I wanted to (and had a place to put it) I could buy the machine.
Oh Deep Down. I'll be beside you hoping for Dragon's Dogma 2. Online doesn't count.
Knowing that switch owners number over fifteen million. Square Enix can make a ton of money,if they release some kingdom hearts and final fantasy games to the switch. Guaranteed they would have more than a million sold worldwide. There are a lot of dedicated switch owners that would support square Enix.
I don't think I've seen Square this interested in a Nintendo system since the GBA. It goes to show that Nintendo did a damn good job of attracting 3rd parties to the Switch.
It has probably been mentioned several times in the comments already but I am sure there are a large number of people dying for a "Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest" remake. Go on kid!
In a perfect world they would release an all new Secret of Mana game, using the same engine and visual style of Project Octopath Traveler.
The game would have 3-player local (and online) multiplayer, where each player would control one of the well-balanced, albeit very different characters (who of course have distinct and flavourful backgrounds). The game's system would allow limited character customization, similar to the class-progression system in Seiken Densetsu 3 (SoM2). The game would use an enhanced and refined version of the ring menus seen in Secret of Mana. A central new option would be that you could choose that opening the ring menu will not interrupt the game's flow by pausing the game and thereby making spellcasters a lot more fun to play. The story in this game would be gripping, it would feature a few really unexpected twists and it would make you feel happy, sad, adventurous and at the same time powerful and helpless, while also leaving you with enough freedom to take your time and engage in the beautifully crafted game's world. The game would feature multiple endings, additional character unlocks (each of which would of course offer a new unique playstyle and a new perspective on the game's story), alternative outfit unlocks, an unlockable hard mode (after beating the main story for the first time), an achievement-system, a theater mode featuring both audio and video sequences that you have already unlocked in the game via collectibles and a gallery with art and fotos (also including a hard to unlock video featuring the game's development team congratulating you on 100%-ing the game). Needless to say, the game's soundtrack would be among the best OST's ever created (and also the game would have an unlockable option to play all music in 16-bit mode).
That's the vision I have for an all-new entry in the Mana series. And I'm heartbroken that this game won't ever be created.
Surprised that almost no one has requested Final Fantasy VII Remake. Cloud being in Super Smash Bros. seemed like a step closer to that vision. Switch wasn't announced at the time when SE had released that announcement. We don't know a lot and it's really subject to change.
Oh and the game would definitely not have a tutorial. It would instead introduce new enemy mechanics slowly at first but faster around one quarter into the game's story. The character's abilities would progress in much the same way. For stat-lovers like me and people that want to dig deep into the game's mechanics, there would be an expansive glossar explaining all rules (including all stats, elements, status conditions, buffs and debuffs), including %-numbers of increases and decreases. Of course there would also be a sort of bestiary that would show all enemies encountered so far (including their detailed stats if you use an analysis spell or an ability or item that can copy this effect), showing their zoomable sprite and animations and the treasure they can drop.
Im lookimg forward to World Ends With You and Octopath Traveller but other than that their support has been fairly weak.
Yak yak yak
Well, it’s about time to bring to the Switch the heavy hitters like Final Fantasy, SquEnix.
An improved/remastered port of Final Fantasy Explorers would be good.
But actions speak louder than words Square Enix.
@nitrolink I remember seeing an article on the director of KH3 stating that they wouldn't mind porting it to the switch but they want to release them on the original platforms they developed them for first (xb1, ps4).
@Menchi187 Why, do you think that? From what SE has said from their own mouths, it could most definitely happen.
Kingdom Hearts 3 ain't happening on Switch. Mainly because it's never happening at this rate, but I digress...
I mainly only see Dragon Quest mainline getting supported on Switch. For FF, just spinoffs, no mainline. Tegra X1 is too slow/weak for mainline. Wouldn't be surprised if it turns out that way for KH3, despite their interest in porting it. Not an insignificant task... Maybe it would happen by 2021? Nah, that's being generous, 2022 at the earliest.
A TWEWY sequel would be nice, and Nomura/Kando have stated they are interested in making a sequel. The World Begins With You. Certainly possible!
I would love for FF6 to get the fully fledged remake treatment, I think it's just a better package overall than FF7. At this rate, though, I doubt it'll happen.
@Boponpa Nah, Tegra X1 is too weak/slow to handle the FF7 Remake. There's about as much chance for FF7R to make an appearance on Switch as there was for Snake to appear in MGS4 onwards on any Nintendo console... Which is to say, nada.
@Joeynator3000 You may be the most sane person here.
kingdom hearts...final fantasy... tactics... please..
https://gametransfers.com/kingdom-hearts-iii-nintendo-switch/
Old news, but Nomura DID indicate that he might consider porting KH3 in question after finishing the game. Yes it might need some downgrading, but remember, the game is made with UE4, and Switch runs that.
As for FF7, I'd rather have the PC remaster on Switch at this point rather than the remake; they're taking too damn long with it. Also to say we won't get any mainlines? How do you know, do you work with SE directly? If not then who is to say it won't happen? Heck, Tabata said he was trying to get FFXV on Switch.
Seriously, I see no reason to be skeptical of those two titles yet.
Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy Tactics would be lovely. I feel like the PS3 versions of KH1 and 2 and the various spinoffs that came with them, could easily be ported to the Switch.
However I am Setsuna is one of only 2 games I have bought for the Switch to date that has left me genuinely disappointed. The other being Mercenaries Chronicles but that was a lot cheaper and less of a let down.
We know Square Enix can make great games, I wish they'd put more effort into Switch games, either ports or original titles, I am fine with both, but lets tap that awesome Square Enix library!
@Lthoise You are absolutely right. However, they have to finish the game first before committing to porting. That's fair enough, as they're not finished yet. Heck, we don't even know the release date for KH3, for cying out loud! True, it's not going to launch alongside XB1 or PS4, but a later port is not impossible. It's happened before, and we've seen late ports on Switch perform well. L.A. Noire, Resident Evil Revelations Collection, NBA 2K18, MHXX (in Japan), Skyrim, Doom... all those titles enjoyed success on Switch, regardless of if they were late ports or not. Again, the fact that KH3 uses UE4 and Switch does means it's possible. It can be downscaled. It's a matter of whether it's financially feasible to do so.
This is what I like to read. I would love FFX and X-2 on the Switch. To me those games are the best Final Fantasies.
@nitrolink really, has it though? We've had I am Setsuna, recently Lost Sphear and now DQ builders which are decent games. But where are the big releases, like DQ X, SQ XI, any FF that is not a spinoff, Secret of Mana collection, .... Even Octopath has still nog release date and that games has been hyped for months now.
