Re: Meet The Mario Maker Player Nintendo Wants To Ban For Keeping The Game Alive

gokev13

I really find the glitches interesting as well and so did my son. However when I first started playing the game I gave myself a rule that I was going to finish every level that I came across which I eventually gave up on partially due to glitch levels popping up all the time. I like @aaronsullivan 's suggestion that they somehow include a separate space for glitch levels but I don't see how that would work. I had a level taken down shortly after I put it up and I think it was because at the begging you had to throw a trampoline on a conveyor belt, grab another trampoline, jump on the first trampoline after it falls of the conveyor belt before it fully sinks into the lava and then do the air trampoline jump with the one you are holding. I am not sure if the air trampoline jump you can do in Super Mario World is viewed as a glitch or not but it sure was difficult to pull off.

Re: Nintendo Reveals "The Master Trials", the First DLC Pack for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

gokev13

I'm still on the fence about this update, of course I was always more interested in the new story DLC than this one anyways. I am a little disappointed about the Korok Mask though, I am not very far in the game and I thought that eventually I would be able to use the Sheikah Slate to track Koroks at some point but now I know that I will have to get the DLC if I want to find them easier. SIGH

Re: Nintendo Reveals "The Master Trials", the First DLC Pack for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

gokev13

@Rebusmind There was an update for Zelda that came yesterday before this was announced. I don't know for sure but it is very possible that the path tracker was added during that update so that when the actual DLC is released you will be able to view were you traveled. Just speculation but it is very possible that the game did not keep track of it from the very beginning.

Re: Fresh Data Shows That Four Out Of Five Pokémon GO Players Have Given Up Hunting

gokev13

I never bothered to try it. As a rule I am not a fan of mobile games like this because they never seem to end. I enjoy Games like Fire Emblem Heroes and Pokemon Shuffle but I basically had to just stop Pokemon Shuffle cold turkey because I was playing it at least once a day and I got sick of wasting my time with it. The same thing will happen with Fire Emblem Heroes as well. I enjoy playing them but because I never get that satisfaction of "finishing" the game it starts to feel pointless to me.

Re: Breath of the Wild's Art Director on Why Link's Classic Hat is Missing

gokev13

I like the traditional green outfit and hat but being able to choose seems like a really good way to go. Maybe next game Link will have his own house that he can decorate and buy furniture for, then he can raise money catching fish and bugs and selling them. Maybe it would be great if his house was even in a town that he can beautify with neighbors who can move in... oh wait, that's Animal Crossing.

Re: Nintendo Switch's Joy-Con Disconnection Woes Could Be Hardware-Related

gokev13

It seems strange that lots of people commenting on here don't seem to be having any problems with this. Maybe this is a stupid theory but maybe certain people cause the interference with their bodies. I've heard that some people can't wear battery powered watches because their bodies somehow drain the battery or something like that. Maybe that is an urban legend but I suppose it is possible that for some their bodies are not ready.

Re: Nintendo Confirms Switch Save Data Is Tied To The Console And Cannot Be Transferred

gokev13

I am really not sure why save data has to be so inflexible. I would really like to know their logic behind this because I really wouldn't mind being able to move my save data to an SD card as a backup when I finish a game. Are they worried people are going to start selling their save data or something? I was disappointed when I found out I couldn't transfer save data between accounts on the WiiU, I wanted to put a password on my account after I set up my kids with there own account but they would have protested when they couldn't play games with everything unlocked like it is on my account, so I just left it.Though maybe it isn't as easy as I imagine it should be with all of the online rankings, or other things that are tied into your account. Unfortunately I will just have to take the bad with the good in this case.

Re: Guide: Nintendo Switch Dock Scratching Your Screen? Try This DIY Fix

gokev13

I feel like if I was using a switch on my own it probably would not get scratched but I have kids who would be using it constantly and so I bet my Switch would have a scratched screen fairly quickly. It would also probably be covered in some kind of greasy/sticky smears in short time like my Wii U game pad. I want a Switch but I am scared my kids would destroy it. SIGH

Re: Talking Point: The DLC Expansion Pass for Zelda: Breath of the Wild is Both Surprising and Inevitable

gokev13

I am not sure why there is a lot of negativity surrounding this. I don't always like DLC but I prefer this method to, "Hey we decided we wanted to add more stuff so now Zelda Breath of the Wild is going to be delayed again." I mean isn't it win - win for the developers and the players? On the developer side they can finish a game, release it and continue developing more content for the same game, using ideas they thought of late in the development cycle. For the consumer we can buy and finish a game and if we loved it we can purchase more of it in the future without having to wait 5 years for the next installment or don't buy it, it's your choice. I didn't buy any DLC in Fire Emblem Awakening or Smash Bros even though I loved those games and I don't feel like I purchased an incomplete game. I did however buy the Mario Kart 8 DLC which seems pretty similar to what they are offering here. I guess it really depends on how much content they are really adding though whether I want to take the plunge in this case though, but if I don't get the DLC I am confidant I will be happy with Breath of the Wild for the complete game it already is.

Re: Poll: Does Nintendo Switch Need Streaming Apps and a Web Browser, Or Is It All About Games?

gokev13

I can see why some people would want those things on the Switch but I personally don't care. When I got a WiiU I thought it was great that I could watch youtube, Netflix, and so forth but it wasn't long before I got a long enough cable to connect my Smart TV to my router. I enjoy the off TV play aspect and I wasn't able to use it because when others in my family wanted to watch T.V. they typically did so through the WiiU. In my case I need less reasons for the rest of my family to use my consoles, not
more.

Re: It's Nintendo Switch Petition Time, With Miiverse on the Agenda

gokev13

My wife and I play Yoshi's Wolly World together occasionally and usually we ignore the mii's on the world map. However one time I just randomly picked one and said, "I wonder what he has to say." It was a crude drawing of male genitalia, and we ended up laughing so hard about it. Who plays a cute game like that and posts that. "You know what I want to do, I want to make a miiverse post that perfectly expresses how I feel right now. Hmmmm...I know I'll draw a penis."

Re: Reggie on Wii U Support Going Forward

gokev13

@Phin68 It's only a lie if they knew at the time they knew that they were going to be done with the WiiU when the switch came out at the time of the quote. I don't know but their first intent may have been to keep WiiU development going for awhile after the switch was released but then the decision changed because they had to reconsider all of the factors. It's like if I tell my kids that we are for sure going to go swimming today but when we all pile in the van it doesn't start and after much tinkering and exploring other options I am forced to conclude that we will not be going swimming today. My kids might whine and call me a liar but I didn't lie, I thought we were going swimming. I was just wrong because things happened beyond my control. You could be right though, he could of lied, but he also could have simply been wrong.

Re: Talking Point: Considering the Paid Online Service for the Nintendo Switch

gokev13

@Yorumi well Rontanamo_Bay answered the "how does Steam do it?" question somewhere on here. Not everything is a scam just because one business model is different than another. Why do some businesses offer me free popcorn just for walking into the store but when I go to a movie I have to pay for it if I want it? Why should I pay for a magazine subscription when I can think of numerous places that let you just take a free magazine? I mean my public library is offering all sorts of books for free, I just take them and return them when I am done. Why don't all book stores do this? Surely the books don't actually cost much if the library let's me take them for free. Some how they still manage to cover their costs. I don't know man, I guess I just see things differently. I tried PC gaming and I just couldn't get into it and I don't fully know why but that's how it is. I think they are justified in charging an online fee but I don't have to like it or pay for it. If Nintendo starts making games that I don't like I won't buy them. I also don't think I will rage on them for it either. Times are changing, the video game industry is changing and Nintendo is often accused of being behind the times but I think that is something that resonates with me more about them. I don't want them to be like Sony, Microsoft, or PC. I think if their games became more like the competition I would play less video games. Sorry, I kind of went down a rabbit hole there.

Re: Talking Point: Considering the Paid Online Service for the Nintendo Switch

gokev13

@Yorumi I do think you need to be careful here. I talked with you a bit on another article. After looking awhile and thinking about it more I feel like you are the one who may not have all of the facts. I think it is reasonable to conclude that companies like Sony, and Microsoft do need to spend a considerable amount of money to support some kind of online, I suppose the only way to know for sure is if we could get a hold of official financial statements that show exactly how much they are spending to provide their online services. They way I understand it the higher the traffic the more it is going to cost. If you have millions of people playing online you need to make sure your system can keep up with that. That means more resources, infrastructure, personnel, security, hardware, etc. One site I was looking at said the cost can be in the millions and although I didn't save the link I don't have any reason to doubt it. That cost has to be covered somehow so they will have to raise the prices of the products they sell and perhaps by using a subscription service they will be able to offer better discounts or cheaper overall prices on the eshop. Time will tell. I respect your opinion and experience in the industry but I think you are missing some pieces of the bigger picture. Nintendo for instance has intimate knowledge on what they are spending to provide online services and I am sure this was not a decision that was made by saying, "How can we gouge our fans for more money? I know let's charge them for something that doesn't cost us anything." I trust Nintendo but mostly because in the past they have given me good value for my money. My heart sunk when they mentioned paying for online but that is because I enjoy online play but I don't think I use it enough to justify paying monthly for it. However we also hardly know anything else about it at this time. I guess as details come out I will continue to see your "There are no servers it is P2P connections" comments. I for one think there is more going on than that.

Re: Soapbox: Nintendo's Switch Plan is Starting to Take Shape

gokev13

@Yorumi You keep saying that there are no servers and the consoles just do a P2P connection and it costs Nintendo nothing to provide online play except for including the ability to do so. I am not an expert on how all of these things work so please teach me. If I am to believe what you say then Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft are lying every time they talk about upgrading their servers, having to maintain them, etc. To take it a step further, when Nintendo schedules a time for server maintenance what they are actually doing is just remotely disabling or blocking your console's ability to connect to the internet so that an error message pops up on everyone's console whenever they try to play online games in order to make everyone think they have actually servers to maintain in order for you to enjoy online gaming. If this is the actually the case I want to know. The Elders of the Internet should be informed of this injustice right away!

Re: Soapbox: The Nintendo Switch's Final Specs Don't Matter

gokev13

Sure specs matter. They also matter to some more than others. They don't matter as much to me though. If they did I wouldn't be still playing games from the 80's and 90's. I also still watch VHS movies on occasion despite also watching things in HD. I see i this way, I like vanilla ice cream. If that vanilla ice cream has things added to it like Oreo cookies, smarties, chocolate peanut butter cups it can be even better. If there is so much stuff added to my ice cream that the cost is way more than I want to spend on ice cream then I don't want it, because in the end a bowl of vanilla ice cream is still very enjoyable.

Re: Feature: Xenoblade Chronicles X - One Year Later

gokev13

I got it for Christmas last year and lovingly played it whenever I could squeeze it into my schedule. I was going to finish the story and then quit, and then I thought, well maybe I should get an 100% survey rate. When I finally beat Telethia the Endbringer getting 100% I immediately started going for all of the achievements which I completed around mid November after playing for almost exactly 350 hours (I think I was 3 minutes short). Every time I told my wife I was almost done playing it she rightfully didn't believe me since I think I started saying it in July.

Re: The Legend of Zelda 30th Anniversary amiibo Provide Food and Goodies in Breath of the Wild

gokev13

The collector in me loves amiibo and wishes that I could have all of them (at least the Smash Bro series ones). The gamer in me likes the idea of being able to use them for different purposes in multiple games. The responsible adult in me does not like spending money on them because there are so many more useful things my money can go toward, even thought they are cool decorations I don't really care to decorate and they uses they have in current games rarely justifies having them around. As a result I have a fair number in my house (mostly given to me or my kids as gifts) and I usually look at them in stores haunted by a desire to both buy them and not buy them. Thanks Nintendo!

Re: Video: New NES Mini Trailer Shows Off Games, Display Options And User Interface

gokev13

I hope that sometimes it doesn't turn on and the only way you can get it to work again is by blowing in a special slot. Then Nintendo needs to tell everyone repeatedly that blowing in that slot doesn't actually help and may indeed damage the NES mini. That way I can relive the conflict of knowing how to get my game to work but afraid it is eventually going to make things worse.

Re: Video: We Need To Talk About Ghostbusters 2 On The NES

gokev13

@World I cannot believe I got through it either. It wasn't a game a played as a kid, I aquired it later in my life and when I started it I thought I might not actually finish it, but I guess determinaton won out in the end. Watching some walkthorughs on the interenet helped too.

Re: Video: We Need To Talk About Ghostbusters 2 On The NES

gokev13

I finished this game earlier this year as part of my "finish all of the video games I own" project. At first I hated it but then as I got better at it I actually started to have a lot of fun playing it. It really got my heart racing at the end because getting a game over and starting over again sure was crappy. It felt so good to complete though.

Re: Talking Point: Where Does The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Fit Into the Zelda Timeline?

gokev13

@MeloMan I would prefer a unified timeline as well but we have what we have. A lot of Zelda's have that alternate world/dimension. What if before Skyward sword a malevolent force actually caused the world to divide into these separate dimensions and in "Breath of the Wild" the goal is to reunite the world the way it was intended to be. At key points in the story Link actually travels to a different point in the timeline to correct something that went wrong that caused another split (like Link being defeted by Gannon in Ocarina). After restoring a split an area of the wild is restored to what Hyrule was meant to be. In essence the Breath of the Wild would be like an ending to the series as we know it but also a beginning to a Zelda series with a unified timeline. I doubt that is what the game is going to be about but I think it would be rather cool if it was.

Re: E3 2016: How The Sin of Getting Lost Has Been Pardoned in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

gokev13

@PowerStar They did that in windwaker. You could control seagulls and fly around as the seagull. You couldn't get to far from Link though. I agree that flying would be awsome. I am kind of hoping Loftwings will make a return but I kind of doubt it. I am sure at the very least there will be an item that lets you warp to any shrine you have been to or something like that.

Re: Eiji Aonuma Rules Out The Option to Play as a Female Link in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

gokev13

@World I have come to learn something in life. No matter what you do someone somewhere is going to be unhappy that you did it. I made that comment tongue in cheek but at the same time I was thinking about Skyward Sword and how Zelda was kind of on her own quest in the background and it actually might be cool to make a game around that mechanic, kind of like the Oracle Zelda games. One where you play as Link and one where you play as Zelda and their quests actually run alongside each other and complement each other in certain ways. It might actually be pretty cool.

Re: Reminder: Catch the Sony E3 2016 Press Conference With Push Square

gokev13

@peeks Ha ha just a little joke man. I was just referring back to when the Wii sold really well and suddenly Sony and Microsoft had to make motion control stuff for their systems. I am loyal to Nintendo systems but that is because they generally give me what I am looking in a video game. That probably is due to me growing up playing Nintendo games. I sometimes look at what the other guys are doing and even though some of those games look great I never really have a longing to play them. Maybe it is because I have an ever growing backlog of games on my Nintendo systems that I am always trying to master. Right now I have my NES hooked up and I am trying to finish all the games I have for that when I am not playing 3DS or WiiU. This year I finished Battletoads, Cobra Triangle, TMNT, Ghostbusters II, Rygar, and some others. That's the beauty of video games though, sometimes what one person sees as rubbish another sees as a work of art. I think that is why people still get excited about harvest moon games and crappy indie games. Heck, my wife has been playing a harvest moon game on our 3ds for almost a whole year now (almost once a day).
